This paper concerns exponential contravariant functors on free groups. We obtain an equivalence of categories between analytic, exponential contravariant functors on free groups and conilpotent cocommutative Hopf algebras. This result explains how equivalences of categories obtained previously by Pirashvili and by Powell interact. Moreover, we obtain an equivalence between the categories of outer, exponential contravariant functors on free groups and bicommutative Hopf algebras. We also go further by introducing a subclass of analytic, contravariant functors on free groups, called primitive functors; and prove an equivalence between primitive, exponential contravariant functors and primitive cocommutative Hopf algebras.
We compute Ext-groups between classical exponential functors (i.e. symmetric, exterior or divided powers) and their Frobenius twists. Our method relies on bar constructions, and bridges these Ext-groups with the homology of Eilenberg-Mac Lane Spaces. Together with the article "Troesch complexes and the twisting spectral sequence" (arXiv 1005.3133), this article provides an alternative approach to classical Ext-computations in the category of strict polynomial functors over fields. We also obtain significant Ext-computations for strict polynomial functors over the integers.
In this paper we show that each polynomial exponential functor on complex finite-dimensional inner product spaces is defined up to equivalence of monoidal functors by an involutive solution to the Yang-Baxter equation (an involutive $R$-matrix), which determines an extremal character on $S_{\infty}$. These characters are classified by Thoma parameters, and Thoma parameters resulting from polynomial exponential functors are of a special kind. Moreover, we show that each $R$-matrix with Thoma parameters of this kind yield a corresponding polynomial exponential functor. In the second part of the …
We prove that each exponential functor on the category of finite-dimensional complex inner product spaces and isomorphisms gives rise to an equivariant higher (ie. non-classical) twist of $K$-theory over $G=SU(n)$. This twist is represented by a Fell bundle $\mathcal{E} \to \mathcal{G}$, which reduces to the basic gerbe for the top exterior power functor. The groupoid $\mathcal{G}$ comes equipped with a $G$-action and an augmentation map $\mathcal{G} \to G$, that is an equivariant equivalence. The $C^*$-algebra $C^*(\mathcal{E})$ associated to $\mathcal{E}$ is stably isomorphic to the section …
We define a theory of Goodwillie calculus for enriched functors from finite pointed simplicial G-sets to symmetric G-spectra, where G is a finite group. We extend a notion of G-linearity suggested by Blumberg to define stably excisive and rho-analytic homotopy functors, as well as a G-differential, in this equivariant context. A main result of the paper is that analytic functors with trivial derivatives send highly connected G-maps to G-equivalences. It is analogous to the classical result of Goodwillie that "functors with zero derivative are locally constant". As main example we show that Hes…
Manifold calculus is a form of functor calculus that analyzes contravariant functors from some categories of manifolds to topological spaces by providing analytic approximations to them. In this paper, using the technique of the $h$-principle, we show that for a symplectic manifold $N$, the analytic approximation to the Lagrangian embeddings functor $\mathrm{Emb}_{\mathrm{Lag}}(-,N)$ is the totally real embeddings functor $\mathrm{Emb}_{\mathrm{TR}}(-,N)$. More generally, for subsets $\mathcal{A}$ of the $m$-plane Grassmannian bundle $\mathrm{Gr}(m,TN)$ for which the $h$-principle holds for $\…
Developing an algorithm for computing the Betti numbers of semi-algebraic sets with singly exponential complexity has been a holy grail in algorithmic semi-algebraic geometry and only partial results are known. In this paper we consider the more general problem of computing the image under the homology functor of a semi-algebraic map $f:X \rightarrow Y$ between closed and bounded semi-algebraic sets. For every fixed $\ell \geq 0$ we give an algorithm with singly exponential complexity that computes bases of the homology groups $\mathrm{H}_i(X), \mathrm{H}_i(Y)$ (with rational coefficients) and…
We develop further the theory of operads and analytic functors. In particular, we introduce a bicategory that has operads as 0-cells, operad bimodules as 1-cells and operad bimodule maps as 2-cells, and prove that this bicategory is cartesian closed. In order to obtain this result, we extend the theory of distributors and the formal theory of monads.
We review the shape theory of $\infty$-topoi, and relate it with the usual cohomology of locally constant sheaves. Additionally, a new localization of profinite spaces is defined which allows us to extend the étale realization functor of Isaksen. We apply these ideas to define an étale homotopy type functor $\mathrm{\acute{e}t}(\mathcal{X})$ for Berkovich's non-archimedean analytic spaces $\mathcal{X}$ over a complete non-archimedean field $K$ and prove some properties of the construction. We compare the étale homotopy types coming from Tate's rigid spaces, Huber's adic spaces, and rigid model…
We study the asymptotic behavior of the homotopy groups of simply connected finite $p$-local complexes, and define a space to be locally hyperbolic if its homotopy groups have exponential growth. Under some certain conditions related to the functorial decomposition of loop suspension, we prove that the suspended finite complexes are locally hyperbolic if suitable but accessible information of the homotopy groups is known. In particular, we prove that Moore spaces are locally hyperbolic, and other candidates are also given.
In this paper, we give precise mathematical form to the idea of a structure whose data and axioms are faithfully represented by a graphical calculus; some prominent examples are operads, polycategories, properads, and PROPs. Building on the established presentation of such structures as algebras for monads on presheaf categories, we describe a characteristic property of the associated monads---the shapeliness of the title---which says that "any two operations of the same shape agree". An important part of this work is the study of analytic functors between presheaf categories, which are a comm…
Let $k$ be an algebraically closed field of exponential characteristic $p$. Given any prime $\ell\neq p$, we construct a stable étale realization functor $$\underline{\text{Ét}}_{\ell}:\text{Spt}(k)\rightarrow \text{Pro}(\text{Spt})^{H\mathbb{Z}/\ell}$$ from the stable $\infty$-category of motivic $\mathbb{P}^1$-spectra over $k$ to the stable $\infty$-category of $(H\mathbb{Z}/\ell)^*$-local pro-spectra (see section 3 for definition). This is induced by the étale topological realization functor á la Friedlander. The constant presheaf functor naturally induces the functor \[\text{SH}[1/p]\right…
We prove that the functor associating to a rigid analytic variety the singular complex of the underlying Berkovich topological space is motivic, and defines the maximal Artin quotient of a motive. We use this to generalize Berkovich's results on the weight-zero part of the étale cohomology of a variety defined over a non-archimedean valued field.
