This paper introduces LIVE: Lidar Informed Visual Search focused on the problem of multi-robot (MR) planning and execution for robust visual detection of multiple objects. We perform extensive real-world experiments with a two-robot team in an indoor apartment setting. LIVE acts as a perception module that detects unmapped obstacles, or Short Term Features (STFs), in Lidar observations. STFs are filtered, resulting in regions to be visually inspected by modifying plans online. Lidar Coverage Path Planning (CPP) is employed for generating highly efficient global plans for heterogeneous robot teams. Finally, we present a data model and a demonstration dataset, which can be found by visiting our project website https://sites.google.com/view/live-iros2023/home.
Simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) are crucial for autonomous robots (e.g., self-driving cars, autonomous drones), 3D mapping systems, and AR/VR applications. This work proposed a novel LiDAR-inertial-visual fusion framework termed R$^3$LIVE++ to achieve robust and accurate state estimation while simultaneously reconstructing the radiance map on the fly. R$^3$LIVE++ consists of a LiDAR-inertial odometry (LIO) and a visual-inertial odometry (VIO), both running in real-time. The LIO subsystem utilizes the measurements from a LiDAR for reconstructing the geometric structure (i.e., the p…
Multi-object tracking (MOT) enables mobile robots to perform well-informed motion planning and navigation by localizing surrounding objects in 3D space and time. Existing methods rely on depth sensors (e.g., LiDAR) to detect and track targets in 3D space, but only up to a limited sensing range due to the sparsity of the signal. On the other hand, cameras provide a dense and rich visual signal that helps to localize even distant objects, but only in the image domain. In this paper, we propose EagerMOT, a simple tracking formulation that eagerly integrates all available object observations from …

Every day, burning buildings threaten the lives of occupants and first responders trying to save them. Quick action is of essence, but some areas might not be accessible or too dangerous to enter. Robotic systems have become a promising addition to firefighting, but at this stage, they are mostly manually controlled, which is error-prone and requires specially trained personal. We present two systems for autonomous firefighting from air and ground we developed for the Mohamed Bin Zayed International Robotics Challenge (MBZIRC) 2020. The systems use LiDAR for reliable localization within narrow…

In this paper, we propose a solution for legged robot localization using architectural plans. Our specific contributions towards this goal are several. Firstly, we develop a method for converting the plan of a building into what we denote as an architectural graph (A-Graph). When the robot starts moving in an environment, we assume it has no knowledge about it, and it estimates an online situational graph representation (S-Graph) of its surroundings. We develop a novel graph-to-graph matching method, in order to relate the S-Graph estimated online from the robot sensors and the A-Graph extract…
