英文摘要:
The entanglement generation of two two-level giant atoms coupled to a photonic waveguide, which is formed by a Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) type coupled-cavity array is studied. Here, each atom is coupled to the waveguide through two coupling points. The two-atom separate-coupling case is studied, and 16 coupling configurations are considered for the coupling-point distributions between the two atoms and the waveguide. Quantum master equations are derived to govern the evolution of the two atoms and characterize atomic entanglement by calculating the concurrence of the two-atom states. It is found that the two giant-atom entanglement depends on the coupling configurations and the coupling-point distance of the giant atoms. In particular, the entanglement dynamics of the two giant atoms in 14 coupling configurations depend on the dimerization parameter of the SSH waveguide. According to the self-energies of the two giant atoms, it is found that ten of these 16 coupling configurations can be divided into five pairs. It is also showed that the delayed sudden birth of entanglement between the two giant atoms is largely enhanced in these five pairs of coupling configurations. This work will promote the study of quantum effects and coherent manipulation in giant-atom topological-waveguide-QED systems.
Deterministic sources of multi-photon entanglement are highly attractive for quantum information processing but are challenging to realize experimentally. In this paper, we demonstrate a route towards a scaleable source of time-bin encoded Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger and linear cluster states from a solid-state quantum dot embedded in a nanophotonic crystal waveguide. By utilizing a self-stabilizing double-pass interferometer, we measure a spin-photon Bell state with $(67.8\pm0.4)\%$ fidelity and devise steps for significant further improvements. By employing strict resonant excitation, we dem…
In this paper, we investigate the generation of continuous variable entanglement between two spatially-separate nanocavities mediated by a coupled resonator optical waveguide in photonic crystals. By solving the exact dynamics of the cavity system coupled to the waveguide, the entanglement and purity of the two-mode cavity state are discussed in detail for the initially separated squeezing inputs. It is found that the stable and pure entangled state of the two distant nanocavities can be achieved with the requirement of only a weak cavity-waveguide coupling when the cavities are resonant with …
Entanglement between atoms and microwave photons in a superconducting coplanar waveguide~(SCW) can enable hybrid quantum devices and interface static and flying qubits. We study a one-step controlled-Z~(C$_{\text{Z}}$) gate between a neutral atom trapped near a SCW and a microwave mode in the SCW, which is an extension of the gate proposed in [J. D. Pritchard, et.al., Phys. Rev. A 89, 010301(R) (2014)]. The gate protocol is simple and requires one laser pulse for exciting a transition between the ground and Rydberg states of the neutral atom.
We propose a scheme able to entangle at the steady state a nanomechanical resonator with a microwave cavity mode of a driven superconducting coplanar waveguide. The nanomechanical resonator is capacitively coupled with the central conductor of the waveguide and stationary entanglement is achievable up to temperatures of tens of milliKelvin.
The nonlocal emitter-waveguide coupling, which gives birth to the so called giant atom, represents a new paradigm in the field of quantum optics and waveguide QED. In this paper, we investigate the single-photon scattering in a one-dimensional waveguide on a two-level or three-level giant atom. Thanks to the natural interference induced by the back and forth photon transmitted/reflected between the atom-waveguide coupling points, the photon transmission can be dynamically controlled by the periodic phase modulation via adjusting the size of the giant atom. For the two-level giant-atom setup, w…
We present two novel schemes to generate photon polarization entanglement via single electron spins confined in charged quantum dots inside microcavities. One scheme is via entangled remote electron spins followed by negatively-charged exciton emissions, and another scheme is via a single electron spin followed by the spin state measurement. Both schemes are based on giant circular birefringence and giant Faraday rotation induced by a single electron spin in a microcavity. Our schemes are deterministic and can generate an arbitrary amount of multi-photon entanglement. Following similar procedu…
We study the coherent single-photon scattering in a one-dimensional waveguide coupled to a giant artificial molecule consisting of two coupled giant atoms. Since each giant atom couples to the waveguide via two coupling points, the couplings of the molecule with the waveguide have three different coupling configurations: the separated-, braided-, and nested-coupling cases. We obtain the exact expressions of the single-photon transmission and reflection amplitudes with the real-space approach. It is found that the behavior of the scattering spectra depends on the phase shift between two neighbo…
In this paper we show how to generate efficiently entanglement between two artificial giant atoms with photon-mediated interactions in a waveguide. Taking advantage of the adjustable decay processes of giant atoms into the waveguide, and of the interference processes, spontaneous sudden birth of entanglement can be strongly enhanced with giant atoms. Highly entangled states can also be generated in the steady-state regime when the system is driven by a resonant classical field. We show that the statistics of the light emitted by the system can be used as a witness of the presence of entangleme…
We propose a quantum non-demolition method - giant Faraday rotation - to detect a single electron spin in a quantum dot inside a microcavity where negatively-charged exciton strongly couples to the cavity mode. Left- and right-circularly polarized light reflected from the cavity feels different phase shifts due to cavity quantum electrodynamics and the optical spin selection rule. This yields giant and tunable Faraday rotation which can be easily detected experimentally. Based on this spin-detection technique, a scalable scheme to create an arbitrary amount of entanglement between two or more …
The interaction between the quantum emitter and topological photonic system makes both the emitter and the photon behave in exotic ways. We here study a system that a giant atom is coupled to two points of a one-dimensional topological waveguide formed by the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) chain. The topological nature of the hybrid system is studied. We find that the giant atom can act as an effective boundary and induce the chiral zero energy modes for the waveguide under the periodical boundary. The properties of these modes are similar to those in the SSH model with open boundary. Meanwhile, t…
Quantum optics with giant emitters has shown a new route for the observation and manipulation of non-Markovian properties in waveguide-QED. In this paper we extend the theory of giant atoms, hitherto restricted to the perturbative light-matter regime, to deal with the ultrastrong coupling regime. Using static and dynamical polaron methods we address the low energy subspace of a giant atom coupled to an Ohmic waveguide beyond the standard rotating wave approximation. We analyze the equilibrium properties of the system by computing the atomic frequency renormalization as a function of the coupli…
The giant atom system is a new paradigm in quantum optics, in which the traditional dipole approximation is not available. In this paper, we construct an artificial giant atom model by coupling a superconducting circuits to a transmission line by two coupling points. In the ultrastrong coupling regime, we show that the Lamb shift of the giant atom, which is induced by the non-negligible counter-rotating atom-waveguide coupling term, will modify its dissipation process. Furthermore, we investigate quantum Zeno and anti-Zeno effect where the size of the giant atom serves as a sensitive controlle…
We describe a simple entangling principle based on the scattering of photons off single emitters in one-dimensional waveguides (or extremely-lossy cavities). The scheme can be applied to photonic qubits encoded in polarization or time-bin, and features a filtering mechanism that works effectively as a built-in error-correction directive. This automatically maps imperfections from weak couplings, atomic decay into undesired modes, frequency mismatches, or finite bandwidths of the incident photonic pulses, into heralded losses instead of infidelities. The scheme is thus adequate for high-fidelit…
We investigate the dynamics of giant atom(s) in a waveguide QED scenario, where the atom couples to the coupled resonator waveguide via two sites. For a single giant atom setup, we find that the atomic dissipation rate can be adjusted by tuning its size. For the two giant atoms system, the waveguide will induce the controllable individual and collective dissipation as well as effective inter-atom coupling. As a result, we can theoretically realize the robust entangled state preparation and non-reciprocal excitation evolution. We hope our study can be applied in quantum information processing b…
We study the disentanglement dynamics of two giant atoms coupled to a common one-dimensional waveguide. We focus on the non-Markovian retarded effect in the disentanglement of the two giant atoms by taking the photon transmission time into account. By solving the time-delayed equations of motion for the probability amplitudes, we obtain the evolution of the entanglement of the two giant atoms, which are initially in the maximally entangled states in the single-excitation space. It is found that the retardation-induced non-Markovianity leads to non-exponential decay and revivals of entanglement…
The dipole approximation is usually employed to describe light-matter interactions under ordinary conditions. With the development of artificial atomic systems, `giant atom' physics is possible, where the scale of atoms is comparable to or even greater than the wavelength of the light they interact with, and the dipole approximation is no longer valid. It reveals interesting physics impossible in small atoms and may offer useful applications. Here, we experimentally demonstrate the giant spin ensemble (GSE), where a ferromagnetic spin ensemble interacts twice with the meandering waveguide, and…
We propose tunable chiral bound states in a system composed of superconducting giant atoms and a Josephson photonic-crystal waveguide (PCW), with no analog in other quantum setups. The chiral bound states arise due to interference in the nonlocal coupling of a giant atom to multiple points of the waveguide. The chirality can be tuned by changing either the atom-waveguide coupling or the external bias of the PCW. Furthermore, the chiral bound states can induce directional dipole-dipole interactions between multiple giant atoms coupling to the same waveguide. Our proposal is ready to be implemen…
Models of light-matter interactions typically invoke the dipole approximation, within which atoms are treated as point-like objects when compared to the wavelength of the electromagnetic modes that they interact with. However, when the ratio between the size of the atom and the mode wavelength is increased, the dipole approximation no longer holds and the atom is referred to as a "giant atom". Thus far, experimental studies with solid-state devices in the giant-atom regime have been limited to superconducting qubits that couple to short-wavelength surface acoustic waves, only probing the prope…
We investigate coherent single-photon transport in a waveguide-QED structure containing two giant atoms. The unified analytical expressions of the single-photon scattering amplitudes applicable for different topological configurations are derived. The spectroscopic characteristics in different parameter regimes, especially the asymmetric Fano line shapes and the electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT)-like spectra, are analyzed in detail. Specifically, we find that the appearance of Fano line shapes is influenced by not only the phase delays between coupling points but also the topologi…
By coupling a $Λ$-type quantum emitter to a chiral waveguide, in which the polarization of a photon is locked to its propagation direction, we propose a controllable photon-emitter interface for quantum networks. We show that this chiral system enables the SWAP gate and a hybrid-entangling gate between the emitter and a flying single photon. It also allows deterministic storage and retrieval of single-photon states with high fidelities and efficiencies. In short, this chirally coupled emitter-photon interface can be a critical building block toward a large-scale quantum network.
Giantly enhanced cross-phase modulation with suppressed spectral broadening is predicted between optically-induced dark-state polaritons whose propagation is strongly affected by photonic bandgaps of spatially periodic media with multilevel dopants. This mechanism is shown to be capable of fully entangling two single-photon pulses with high fidelity.
We investigate the single-photon scattering spectra of a giant atom coupled to a one dimensional waveguide via multiple connection points or a continuous coupling region. Using a full quantum mechanical method, we obtain the general analytic expressions for the single-photon scattering coefficients, which are valid in both the Markovian and the non-arkovian regimes. We summarize the influences of the non-dipole effects, mainly caused by the phases accumulated by photons traveling between coupling points, on the scattering spectra. We find that under the Markovian limit, the phase decay is detu…
Giant atoms -- quantum emitters that couple to light at multiple discrete points -- are emerging as a new paradigm in quantum optics thanks to their many promising properties, such as decoherence-free interaction. While most previous work has considered giant atoms coupled to open continuous waveguides or a single giant atom coupled to a structured bath, here we study the interaction between two giant atoms mediated by a structured waveguide, e.g., a photonic crystal waveguide. This environment is characterized by a finite energy band and a band gap, which affect atomic dynamics beyond the Mar…
