We present a novel approach to leverage prior knowledge encapsulated in pre-trained text-to-image diffusion models for blind super-resolution (SR). Specifically, by employing our time-aware encoder, we can achieve promising restoration results without altering the pre-trained synthesis model, thereby preserving the generative prior and minimizing training cost. To remedy the loss of fidelity caused by the inherent stochasticity of diffusion models, we employ a controllable feature wrapping module that allows users to balance quality and fidelity by simply adjusting a scalar value during the inference process. Moreover, we develop a progressive aggregation sampling strategy to overcome the fixed-size constraints of pre-trained diffusion models, enabling adaptation to resolutions of any size. A comprehensive evaluation of our method using both synthetic and real-world benchmarks demonstrates its superiority over current state-of-the-art approaches. Constructing effective image priors is critical to solving ill-posed inverse problems in image processing and imaging. Recent works proposed to exploit image non-local similarity for inverse problems by grouping similar patches and demonstrated state-of-the-art results in many applications. However, compared to classic methods based on filtering or sparsity, most of the non-local algorithms are time-consuming, mainly due to the highly inefficient and redundant block matching step, where the distance between each pair of overlapping patches needs to be computed. In this work, we propose a novel…

Learning a good image prior is a long-term goal for image restoration and manipulation. While existing methods like deep image prior (DIP) capture low-level image statistics, there are still gaps toward an image prior that captures rich image semantics including color, spatial coherence, textures, and high-level concepts. This work presents an effective way to exploit the image prior captured by a generative adversarial network (GAN) trained on large-scale natural images. As shown in Fig.1, the deep generative prior (DGP) provides compelling results to restore missing semantics, e.g., color, p…

In this paper, we propose an effective and efficient face deblurring algorithm by exploiting semantic cues via deep convolutional neural networks. As the human faces are highly structured and share unified facial components (e.g., eyes and mouths), such semantic information provides a strong prior for restoration. We incorporate face semantic labels as input priors and propose an adaptive structural loss to regularize facial local structures within an end-to-end deep convolutional neural network. Specifically, we first use a coarse deblurring network to reduce the motion blur on the input face…
Sparsity constrained single image super-resolution (SR) has been of much recent interest. A typical approach involves sparsely representing patches in a low-resolution (LR) input image via a dictionary of example LR patches, and then using the coefficients of this representation to generate the high-resolution (HR) output via an analogous HR dictionary. However, most existing sparse representation methods for super resolution focus on the luminance channel information and do not capture interactions between color channels. In this work, we extend sparsity based super-resolution to multiple col…
Visuals captured by high-flying aerial drones are increasingly used to assess biodiversity and animal population dynamics around the globe. Yet, challenging acquisition scenarios and tiny animal depictions in airborne imagery, despite ultra-high resolution cameras, have so far been limiting factors for applying computer vision detectors successfully with high confidence. In this paper, we address the problem for the first time by combining deep object detectors with super-resolution techniques and altitude data. In particular, we show that the integration of a holistic attention network based …

Saliency detection aims to detect the most attractive objects in images and is widely used as a foundation for various applications. In this paper, we propose a novel salient object detection algorithm for RGB-D images using center-dark channel priors. First, we generate an initial saliency map based on a color saliency map and a depth saliency map of a given RGB-D image. Then, we generate a center-dark channel map based on center saliency and dark channel priors. Finally, we fuse the initial saliency map with the center dark channel map to generate the final saliency map. Extensive evaluation…
On a minute-to-minute basis people undergo numerous fluid interactions with objects that barely register on a conscious level. Recent neuroscientific research demonstrates that humans have a fixed size prior for salient objects. This suggests that a salient object in 3D undergoes a consistent transformation such that people's visual system perceives it with an approximately fixed size. This finding indicates that there exists a consistent egocentric object prior that can be characterized by shape, size, depth, and location in the first person view. In this paper, we develop an EgoObject Repres…

We address the problem of semantic correspondence, that is, establishing a dense flow field between images depicting different instances of the same object or scene category. We propose to use images annotated with binary foreground masks and subjected to synthetic geometric deformations to train a convolutional neural network (CNN) for this task. Using these masks as part of the supervisory signal provides an object-level prior for the semantic correspondence task and offers a good compromise between semantic flow methods, where the amount of training data is limited by the cost of manually s…
Despite the extensive studies on Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), how to reliably sample high-quality images from their latent spaces remains an under-explored topic. In this paper, we propose a novel GAN latent sampling method by exploring and exploiting the hubness priors of GAN latent distributions. Our key insight is that the high dimensionality of the GAN latent space will inevitably lead to the emergence of hub latents that usually have much larger sampling densities than other latents in the latent space. As a result, these hub latents are better trained and thus contribute more …

In recent years, the performance of object detection has advanced significantly with the evolving deep convolutional neural networks. However, the state-of-the-art object detection methods still rely on accurate bounding box annotations that require extensive human labelling. Object detection without bounding box annotations, i.e, weakly supervised detection methods, are still lagging far behind. As weakly supervised detection only uses image level labels and does not require the ground truth of bounding box location and label of each object in an image, it is generally very difficult to disti…

Some images that are difficult to recognize on their own may become more clear in the context of a neighborhood of related images with similar social-network metadata. We build on this intuition to improve multilabel image annotation. Our model uses image metadata nonparametrically to generate neighborhoods of related images using Jaccard similarities, then uses a deep neural network to blend visual information from the image and its neighbors. Prior work typically models image metadata parametrically, in contrast, our nonparametric treatment allows our model to perform well even when the voca…

The significant progress on Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) has facilitated realistic single-object image generation based on language input. However, complex-scene generation (with various interactions among multiple objects) still suffers from messy layouts and object distortions, due to diverse configurations in layouts and appearances. Prior methods are mostly object-driven and ignore their inter-relations that play a significant role in complex-scene images. This work explores relationship-aware complex-scene image generation, where multiple objects are inter-related as a scene gra…
We introduce an unsupervised domain adaption (UDA) strategy that combines multiple image translations, ensemble learning and self-supervised learning in one coherent approach. We focus on one of the standard tasks of UDA in which a semantic segmentation model is trained on labeled synthetic data together with unlabeled real-world data, aiming to perform well on the latter. To exploit the advantage of using multiple image translations, we propose an ensemble learning approach, where three classifiers calculate their prediction by taking as input features of different image translations, making …

Promising results have been achieved in image classification problems by exploiting the discriminative power of sparse representations for classification (SRC). Recently, it has been shown that the use of \emph{class-specific} spike-and-slab priors in conjunction with the class-specific dictionaries from SRC is particularly effective in low training scenarios. As a logical extension, we build on this framework for multitask scenarios, wherein multiple representations of the same physical phenomena are available. We experimentally demonstrate the benefits of mining joint information from differ…
Vision Transformers (ViTs) enabled the use of the transformer architecture on vision tasks showing impressive performances when trained on big datasets. However, on relatively small datasets, ViTs are less accurate given their lack of inductive bias. To this end, we propose a simple but still effective Self-Supervised Learning (SSL) strategy to train ViTs, that without any external annotation or external data, can significantly improve the results. Specifically, we define a set of SSL tasks based on relations of image patches that the model has to solve before or jointly the supervised task. D…
Quantitative Susceptibility Mapping is a parametric imaging technique to estimate the magnetic susceptibilities of biological tissues from MRI phase measurements. This problem of estimating the susceptibility map is ill posed. Regularized recovery approaches exploiting signal properties such as smoothness and sparsity improve reconstructions, but suffer from over-smoothing artifacts. Deep learning approaches have shown great potential and generate maps with reduced artifacts. However, for reasonable reconstructions and network generalization, they require numerous training datasets resulting i…

Snapshot hyperspectral imaging can capture the 3D hyperspectral image (HSI) with a single 2D measurement and has attracted increasing attention recently. Recovering the underlying HSI from the compressive measurement is an ill-posed problem and exploiting the image prior is essential for solving this ill-posed problem. However, existing reconstruction methods always start from modeling image prior with the 1D vector or 2D matrix and cannot fully exploit the structurally spectral-spatial nature in 3D HSI, thus leading to a poor fidelity. In this paper, we propose an effective high-order tensor …

The task of image captioning aims to generate captions directly from images via the automatically learned cross-modal generator. To build a well-performing generator, existing approaches usually need a large number of described images, which requires a huge effects on manual labeling. However, in real-world applications, a more general scenario is that we only have limited amount of described images and a large number of undescribed images. Therefore, a resulting challenge is how to effectively combine the undescribed images into the learning of cross-modal generator. To solve this problem, we…
