Majorons are (pseudo-)Nambu-Goldstone bosons associated with lepton number symmetry breaking due to the Majorana mass term of neutrinos introduced in the seesaw mechanism. They are good dark matter candidates since their lifetime is suppressed by the lepton number breaking scale. We update constraints and discuss future prospects on majoron dark matter in the singlet majoron models based on neutrino, gamma-ray, and cosmic-ray telescopes in the mass region of MeV--10 TeV.
The majoron provides an attractive dark matter candidate, directly associated to the mechanism responsible for spontaneous neutrino mass generation within the standard model framework. Here we update the cosmological and astrophysical constraints on majoron dark matter which come from the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) and a variety of X- and gamma-ray observations.
Any theory that have a global spontaneously broken symmetry will imply the existence of very light neutral bosons or massless bosons (sometimes called Majorons). For most of these models we have neutrino-Majoron couplings, that appear as additional branching ratios in decays of mesons and leptons. Here we present an updated limits on the couplings between the electron, muon and tau neutrinos and Majorons. For such we analyze the possible effects of Majoron emission in both meson and lepton decays. In the latter we also include an analysis of the muon decay spectrum. Our results are $|g_{eα}|^{…
In models where the breaking of lepton number is spontaneous a massless Goldstone boson, the Majoron ($J$), appears. We calculate the theoretically allowed range for the branching ratios of Majoron emitting charged lepton decays, such as Br($μ\to e J$) and Br($μ\to e J γ$), in a supersymmetric model with spontaneous breaking of R-parity. Br($μ\to eJ$) is maximal in the same region of parameter space for which the lightest neutralino decays mainly invisibly. A measurement of Br($μ\to eJ$) thus potentially provides information on R-parity violation complementary to accelerator searches. We also …
An updated luminosity staging baseline for CLIC is presented. Assuming accelerator ramp-up and up-time scenarios that are harmonized with those of other potential future colliders, CLIC will deliver 1 ab^-1 at sqrt(s)=380 GeV, 2.5 ab^-1 at sqrt(s)=1.5 TeV, and 5 ab^-1 at sqrt(s)=3 TeV. The complete programme will take 25-30 years. The baseline scenario for luminosity sharing between the two electron beam polarisation states is also discussed. Updated Higgs coupling sensitivities are given for this new luminosity staging baseline.
We perform a study of the impact of the recently released limits on BR(Bs -> mu+ mu-) by LHCb and CMS on several SUSY models. We show that the obtained constraints can be superior to those which are derived from direct searches for SUSY particles in some scenarios, and the use of a double ratio of purely leptonic decays involving Bs -> mu+ mu- can further strengthen such constraints. We also discuss the experimental sensitivity and prospects for observation of Bs -> mu+ mu- during the sqrt(s)=7 TeV run of the LHC, and its potential implications.
We review the existing proposals to detect relic neutrinos using the coherent scattering of a neutrino wind on a test mass. By considering the transformation of the neutrino momentum between reference frames, we demonstrate that the induced acceleration scales with the square of the neutrino mass for unclustered neutrinos, contrary to the existing literature. In addition, we show that there is a large contribution to this effect from coherent neutrino-electron scattering, which can exceed the neutrino-nucleus component by nearly an order of magnitude. Unfortunately, we find that even with this…
We consider the non-radiative two body decay of a neutrino to a daughter neutrino with degraded energy and a very light particle (Majoron). Ultrahigh energy neutrinos from an astrophysical source like a Gamma Ray Burst undergoing this decay process are found to produce different number of events in the detector depending on whether they are Majorana or Dirac particles. The next generation large scale experiments like Multi-OWL is expected to provide us an accurate determination of the flux of neutrinos from astrophysical sources and this may enable us to distinguish between the Dirac and Major…
We discuss the phenomenology of charged Higgs bosons in the MSSM with minimal flavor violation. In addition to the constrained MSSM (CMSSM) with universal soft supersymmetry breaking mass parameters at the GUT scale, we explore non-universal Higgs mass models (NUHM) where this universality condition is relaxed. To identify the allowed parameter space regions, we apply constraints from direct searches, low energy observables, and cosmology. We find that values of the charged Higgs mass as low as $m_{H^+}\simeq~135$ GeV can be accommodated in the NUHM models, but that several flavor physics obse…
We present projections for future collider searches for dark matter produced in association with bottom or top quarks. Such production channels give rise to final states with missing transverse energy and one or more b-jets. Limits are given assuming an effective scalar operator coupling dark matter to quarks, where the dedicated analysis discussed here improves significantly over a generic monojet analysis. We give updated results for an anticipated high-luminosity LHC run at 14 TeV and for a 33 TeV hadron collider.
We investigate the prospects for non-standard interactions (NSI) in solar neutrino propagation and detection and find that these may solve the tension between the observed flatness of the SuperKamiokande electron spectrum and its LMA prediction which has a clear negative slope. Also the Cl rate prediction from NSI comes within 1$σ$ of its experimental value instead of the LMA one which lies more than 2$σ$ above. A remarkable consequence of NSI for solar neutrinos is the possibility of neutrino decay into majorons and antineutrinos whose appearance probability is calculated but found to be rath…
Constraints on the non-standard top-gluon couplings composed of the chromomagnetic- and chromoelectric-dipole moments of the top quark are updated by combining the latest data of top-pair productions from the Tevatron, 7-TeV LHC, and 8-TeV LHC. We find that adding the recent 8-TeV data to the analysis is effective to get a stronger constraint on the chromoelectric-dipole moment than the one from the Tevatron and 7-TeV LHC alone. We also discuss how those constraints on the non-standard couplings could be further improved when 14-TeV LHC results become available in the near future.
In this short reappraisal of spontaneous lepton number violation in a supersymmetric scenario implemented through singlet sneutrino vacuum expectation value (VEV), we contribute with two new things in the context where the lepton number symmetry is global: (i) provide explicit expressions of $R$-parity violating couplings in terms of the neutrino Yukawa couplings and the singlet sneutrino VEV, and (ii) estimate the limit on this VEV using the current knowledge of the light neutrino mass and the astrophysical constraint on the Majoron-electron coupling. Besides, we put updated constraints on th…
Plots summarizing the constraints on Dark Matter models can help visualize synergies between different searches for the same kind of experiment, as well as between different experiments. In this whitepaper, we present an update to the European Strategy Briefing Book plots, from the perspective of collider searches within the Dark Matter at the Energy Frontier (EF10) Snowmass Topical Group, starting from inputs from future collider facilities. We take as a starting point the plots currently made for LHC searches using benchmark models recommended by the Dark Matter Working Group, also used for …
The flagship measurement of the JUNO experiment is the determination of the neutrino mass ordering. Here we revisit its prospects to make this determination by 2030, using the current global knowledge of the relevant neutrino parameters as well as current information on the reactor configuration and the critical parameters of the JUNO detector. We pay particular attention to the non-linear detector energy response. Using the measurement of $θ_{13}$ from Daya Bay, but without information from other experiments, we estimate the probability of JUNO determining the neutrino mass ordering at $\ge$ …
A singlet fermion which interacts only with a new singlet scalar provides a viable and minimal scenario that can explain the dark matter. The singlet fermion is the dark matter particle whereas the new scalar mixes with the Higgs boson providing a link between the dark matter sector and the Standard Model. In this paper, we present an updated analysis of this model focused on its detection prospects. Both, the parity-conserving case and the most general case are considered. First, the full parameter space of the model is analyzed, and the regions compatible with the dark matter constraint are …
We present an updated analysis of the CMSSM and the NUHM using the latest experimental data and numerical tools. We map out favored regions of Bayesian posterior probability in light of data from the LHC, flavor observables, the relic density and dark matter searches. We present some updated features with respect to our previous analyses: we include the effects of corrections to the light Higgs mass beyond the 2-loop order using FeynHiggs v2.10.0; we include in the likelihood the latest limits from direct searches for squarks and gluinos at ATLAS with ~20/fb; the latest constraints on the spin…
We provide an updated and improved study of the prospects of the H.E.S.S. and Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA) experiments in testing neutralino dark matter in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with nine free parameters (p9MSSM). We include all relevant experimental constraints and theoretical developments, in particular the calculation of the Sommerfeld enhancement for both present-day annihilation and the relic abundance. We perform a state-of-the-art analysis of the CTA sensitivity with a log-likelihood test ratio statistics and apply it to a numerical scan of the p9MSSM parameter sp…
We study the physics of spontaneously broken family symmetries acting on the third generation. Massless familons (or Majorons) $f$ associated with such broken symmetries are motivated especially by cosmological scenarios with decaying tau neutrinos. We first note that, in marked contrast with the case for the first two generations, constraints on third generation familon couplings are poor, and are, in fact, non-existent at present in the hadronic sector. We derive new bounds from $B^0$--$\bar{B}^0$ mixing, $B^0 \to l^+ l'^-$, $b\to sν\barν$, and astrophysics. The resulting constraints on fami…
In this paper, we search for the regions of the phenomenological minimal supersymmetric standard model (pMSSM) parameter space where one can expect to have moderate Higgs mixing angle ($α$) with relatively light (up to 600 GeV) additional Higgses after satisfying the current LHC data. We perform a global fit analysis using most updated data (till December 2014) from the LHC and Tevatron experiments. The constraints coming from the precision measurements of the rare b-decays $B_s \to μ^+ μ^-$ and $b\to s γ$ are also considered. We find that low $M_{A}$ $(\lesssim 350)$ and high $\tanβ$ $(\gtrsi…
We use the LHC Higgs data to derive updated constraints on electroweak-scale sterile neutrinos that naturally occur in many low-scale seesaw extensions of the Standard Model to explain the neutrino masses. We also analyze the signal sensitivity for a new final state involving a single charged lepton and two jets with missing energy, which arises from the decay of sterile neutrinos produced through the Higgs and $W,Z$ boson mediated processes at the LHC. Future prospects of these sterile neutrino signals in precision Higgs measurements, as well as at a future 100 TeV collider, are also discusse…
In order to address the observation of the neutrino oscillations and the metastability of the Standard Model, we extend the fermion sector with two right-handed (i.e. sterile) neutrinos, and the scalar sector of the SM with a real scalar, the Hill field. The latter takes the role of a Majoron and generates the Majorana masses for the neutrino sector, such that the particle spectrum features two CP-even scalars $h_1$ and $h_2$, and also two heavy, mass degenerate neutrinos. When the $h_1$ is identified with the scalar resonance at ~125 GeV and the condition is imposed that the $h_1$ self coupli…
We update our previous work on an analysis of the electroweak data by including new and partly preliminary data available up to the 1996 summer conferences. The new results on the Z partial decay widths into b and c hadrons now offer a consistent interpretation of all data in the minimal standard model. The value extracted for the strong interaction coupling constant α_s(mZ) agrees well with determinations in other areas. New constraints on the universal parameters S, T and U are obtained from the updated measurements. No signal of new physics is found in the S,T,U analysis once the SM contrib…
The proposed DarkQuest beam dump experiment, a modest upgrade to the existing SeaQuest/SpinQuest experiment, has great potential for uncovering new physics within a dark sector. We explore both the near-term and long-term prospects for observing two distinct, highly-motivated hidden sector benchmark models: heavy neutral leptons and Higgs-mixed scalars. We comprehensively examine the particle production and detector acceptance at DarkQuest, including an updated treatment of meson production, and light scalar production through both bremsstrahlung and gluon-gluon fusion. In both benchmark model…
The search for antideuterons in cosmic rays has been proposed as a promising channel for dark matter indirect detection, especially for dark matter particles with a low or intermediate mass. With the current operational phase of the AMS-02 experiment and the ongoing development of a future dedicated experiment, the General Antiparticle Spectrometer (GAPS), there are exciting prospects for a dark matter detection in the near future. In this paper we develop a detailed and complete re-analysis of the cosmic-ray antideuteron signal, by discussing the main relevant issues related to antideuteron p…
The relationship between the degree of fine-tuning in Electroweak Symmetry Breaking (EWSB) and the discoverability of dark matter in current and next generation direct detection experiments is investigated in the context of two unified Supersymmetry scenarios: the constrained Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (CMSSM) and models with non-universal Higgs masses (NUHM). Attention is drawn to the mechanism(s) by which the relic abundance of neutralino dark matter is suppressed to cosmologically viable values. After a summary of Amsel, Freese, and Sandick (2011), results are updated to reflect …
We present updated results on the complementarity between high-energy colliders and dark matter direct detection experiments in the context of Universal Extra Dimensions (UED). In models with relatively small mass splittings between the dark matter candidate and the rest of the (colored) spectrum, the collider sensitivity is diminished, but direct detection rates are enhanced. UED provide a natural framework to study such mass degeneracies. We discuss the detection prospects for the KK photon $γ_1$ and the KK $Z$-boson $Z_1$, combining the expected LHC reach with cosmological constraints from …
We examine updated prospects for detecting WIMPs in supersymmetric models via direct and indirect dark matter search experiments. We examine several historical and also still viable scenarios: projections for well-tempered neutralinos (WTN), projections from the MasterCode (MC), BayesFits (BF) and Fittino (FO) collaborations, non-thermal wino dark matter (NThW) and finally mixed axion-higgsino dark matter from SUSY with radiatively-driven naturalness (RNS). The WTN is ruled out by recent limits from XENON and LUX collaborations. The NThW scenario, previously on tenuous ground due to gamma-line…
The leptophilic weakly interacting massive particle (WIMP) is realized in a minimal renormalizable model scenario where scalar mediators with lepton number establish the WIMP interaction with the standard model (SM) leptons. We perform a comprehensive analysis for such a WIMP scenario for two distinct cases with an SU(2) doublet or singlet mediator considering all the relevant theoretical, cosmological and experimental constraints at present. We show that the mono-photon search at near-future lepton collider experiments (ILC, FCC-ee, CEPC, etc.) can play a significant role to probe the yet une…
In this contribution, CTAs potential role in detection of particle dark matter in the context of other detection approaches is briefly discussed for an audience of gamma-ray astronomers. In particular searches for new particles at the large hadron collider and detection of dark matter particles in deep underground detectors are considered. We will focus on Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMP). Approaches will be compared in terms of (a) robustness of sensitivity predictions, (b) timeline and (c) reach. The estimate of the reach will be model-dependent. Given our ignorance about the natu…
