Named entity recognition (NER) is a natural language processing task (NLP), which aims to identify named entities and classify them like person, location, organization, etc. In the Arabic language, we can find a considerable size of unstructured data, and it needs to different preprocessing tool than languages like (English, Russian, German...). From this point, we can note the importance of building a new structured dataset to solve the lack of structured data. In this work, we use the BIOES format to tag the word, which allows us to handle the nested name entity that consists of more than one sentence and define the start and the end of the name. The dataset consists of more than thirty-six thousand records. In addition, this work proposes long short term memory (LSTM) units and Gated Recurrent Units (GRU) for building the named entity recognition model in the Arabic language. The models give an approximately good result (80%) because LSTM and GRU models can find the relationships between the words of the sentence. Also, use a new library from Google, which is Trax and platform Colab
Aspect-based Sentiment analysis (ABSA) accomplishes a fine-grained analysis that defines the aspects of a given document or sentence and the sentiments conveyed regarding each aspect. This level of analysis is the most detailed version that is capable of exploring the nuanced viewpoints of the reviews. The bulk of study in ABSA focuses on English with very little work available in Arabic. Most previous work in Arabic has been based on regular methods of machine learning that mainly depends on a group of rare resources and tools for analyzing and processing Arabic content such as lexicons, but …

Arabic word segmentation is essential for a variety of NLP applications such as machine translation and information retrieval. Segmentation entails breaking words into their constituent stems, affixes and clitics. In this paper, we compare two approaches for segmenting four major Arabic dialects using only several thousand training examples for each dialect. The two approaches involve posing the problem as a ranking problem, where an SVM ranker picks the best segmentation, and as a sequence labeling problem, where a bi-LSTM RNN coupled with CRF determines where best to segment words. We are ab…

In this paper, an approach for hate speech detection against women in Arabic community on social media (e.g. Youtube) is proposed. In the literature, similar works have been presented for other languages such as English. However, to the best of our knowledge, not much work has been conducted in the Arabic language. A new hate speech corpus (Arabic\_fr\_en) is developed using three different annotators. For corpus validation, three different machine learning algorithms are used, including deep Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), long short-term memory (LSTM) network and Bi-directional LSTM (Bi-…
Many automatic translation works have been addressed between major European language pairs, by taking advantage of large scale parallel corpora, but very few research works are conducted on the Amharic-Arabic language pair due to its parallel data scarcity. Two Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) and Gated Recurrent Units (GRU) based Neural Machine Translation (NMT) models are developed using Attention-based Encoder-Decoder architecture which is adapted from the open-source OpenNMT system. In order to perform the experiment, a small parallel Quranic text corpus is constructed by modifying the existi…

In recent years, Hate Speech Detection has become one of the interesting fields in natural language processing or computational linguistics. In this paper, we present the description of our system to solve this problem at the VLSP shared task 2019: Hate Speech Detection on Social Networks with the corpus which contains 20,345 human-labeled comments/posts for training and 5,086 for public-testing. We implement a deep learning method based on the Bi-GRU-LSTM-CNN classifier into this task. Our result in this task is 70.576% of F1-score, ranking the 5th of performance on public-test set.

During the last two decades, we have progressively turned to the Internet and social media to find news, entertain conversations and share opinion. Recently, OpenAI has developed a ma-chine learning system called GPT-2 for Generative Pre-trained Transformer-2, which can pro-duce deepfake texts. It can generate blocks of text based on brief writing prompts that look like they were written by humans, facilitating the spread false or auto-generated text. In line with this progress, and in order to counteract potential dangers, several methods have been pro-posed for detecting text written by thes…

Deep learning mechanisms are prevailing approaches in recent days for the various tasks in natural language processing, speech recognition, image processing and many others. To leverage this we use deep learning based mechanism specifically Bidirectional- Long Short-Term Memory (B-LSTM) for the task of dialectic identification in Arabic and German broadcast speech and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) for discriminating between similar Languages. Two unique B-LSTM models are created using the Large-vocabulary Continuous Speech Recognition (LVCSR) based lexical features and a fixed length of 400 pe…
In this paper we propose four deep recurrent architectures to tackle the task of offensive tweet detection as well as further classification into targeting and subject of said targeting. Our architectures are based on LSTMs and GRUs, we present a simple bidirectional LSTM as a baseline system and then further increase the complexity of the models by adding convolutional layers and implementing a split-process-merge architecture with LSTM and GRU as processors. Multiple pre-processing techniques were also investigated. The validation F1-score results from each model are presented for the three …

Emotion recognition from speech signal based on deep learning is an active research area. Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) may be the dominant method in this area. In this paper, we implement two neural architectures to address this problem. The first architecture is an attention-based CNN-LSTM-DNN model. In this novel architecture, the convolutional layers extract salient features and the bi-directional long short-term memory (BLSTM) layers handle the sequential phenomena of the speech signal. This is followed by an attention layer, which extracts a summary vector that is fed to the fully…
This paper proposes a novel approach to an automatic estimation of three speaker traits from Arabic speech: gender, emotion, and dialect. After showing promising results on different text classification tasks, the multi-task learning (MTL) approach is used in this paper for Arabic speech classification tasks. The dataset was assembled from six publicly available datasets. First, The datasets were edited and thoroughly divided into train, development, and test sets (open to the public), and a benchmark was set for each task and dataset throughout the paper. Then, three different networks were e…
Scripts are an important part of any TV series. They narrate movements, actions and expressions of characters. In this paper, a case study is presented on how different sequence to sequence deep learning models perform in the task of generating new conversations between characters as well as new scenarios on the basis of a script (previous conversations). A comprehensive comparison between these models, namely, LSTM, GRU and Bidirectional RNN is presented. All the models are designed to learn the sequence of recurring characters from the input sequence. Each input sequence will contain, say "n…

This paper proposes to generalize the variational recurrent neural network (RNN) with variational inference (VI)-based dropout regularization employed for the long short-term memory (LSTM) cells to more advanced RNN architectures like gated recurrent unit (GRU) and bi-directional LSTM/GRU. The new variational RNNs are employed for slot filling, which is an intriguing but challenging task in spoken language understanding. The experiments on the ATIS dataset suggest that the variational RNNs with the VI-based dropout regularization can significantly improve the naive dropout regularization RNNs-…

Speech recognition is largely taking advantage of deep learning, showing that substantial benefits can be obtained by modern Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs). The most popular RNNs are Long Short-Term Memory (LSTMs), which typically reach state-of-the-art performance in many tasks thanks to their ability to learn long-term dependencies and robustness to vanishing gradients. Nevertheless, LSTMs have a rather complex design with three multiplicative gates, that might impair their efficient implementation. An attempt to simplify LSTMs has recently led to Gated Recurrent Units (GRUs), which are ba…
Language Identification, being an important aspect of Automatic Speaker Recognition has had many changes and new approaches to ameliorate performance over the last decade. We compare the performance of using audio spectrum in the log scale and using Polyphonic sound sequences from raw audio samples to train the neural network and to classify speech as either English or Spanish. To achieve this, we use the novel approach of using a Convolutional Recurrent Neural Network using Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) or a Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU) for forward propagation of the neural network. Our hypothe…

Recurrent neural networks (RNNs) have shown clear superiority in sequence modeling, particularly the ones with gated units, such as long short-term memory (LSTM) and gated recurrent unit (GRU). However, the dynamic properties behind the remarkable performance remain unclear in many applications, e.g., automatic speech recognition (ASR). This paper employs visualization techniques to study the behavior of LSTM and GRU when performing speech recognition tasks. Our experiments show some interesting patterns in the gated memory, and some of them have inspired simple yet effective modifications on …

In the past decade, we have observed a growing interest in using technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and chatbots to provide assistance to language learners, especially in second language learning. By using AI and natural language processing (NLP) and chatbots, we can create an intelligent self-learning environment that goes beyond multiple-choice questions and/or fill in the blank exercises. In addition, NLP allows for learning to be adaptive in that it offers more than an indication that an error has occurred. It also provides a description of the error, uses…

While Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs) are famously known to be Turing complete, this relies on infinite precision in the states and unbounded computation time. We consider the case of RNNs with finite precision whose computation time is linear in the input length. Under these limitations, we show that different RNN variants have different computational power. In particular, we show that the LSTM and the Elman-RNN with ReLU activation are strictly stronger than the RNN with a squashing activation and the GRU. This is achieved because LSTMs and ReLU-RNNs can easily implement counting behavior. …
