We analyze the consequences of different evolutions of the Hubble parameter on the spectrum of scalar inflationary perturbations. The analysis is restricted to inflationary phases described by a transient evolution, when uncommon features arise in the inflationary spectra that may lead to an amplitude enhancement. We then discuss how the spectrum is, respectively, amplified or blue-tilted in the presence or absence of a growing solution of the Mukhanov-Sasaki equation. The cases of general relativity with a minimally coupled inflaton and that of induced gravity are considered explicitly. Finally, some remarks on constant roll inflation are discussed.
We give the procedure to reconstruct the extended inflationary potentials for attractors and use the $α$ attractor and the constant-roll model as examples to show how to reconstruct the class of extended inflationary potentials in the strong coupling limit. We also derive the strong coupling condition which the coupling constant $ξ$ satisfies. The class of extended inflationary potentials has the same attractor, and the reconstructed extended inflationary potentials are consistent with the observational constraints. The existence of the attractors from extended inflationary models further chal…
We demonstrate the parametric amplification of the stochastic gravitational wave background during inflationary reheating and during axion/moduli oscillations. This amplification enhances the detectability of the string/inflationary gravity wave signal, leaving a finger-print on the spectrum which might be found with future gravitational wave detectors.
We study inflationary models with a Gauss-Bonnet term to reconstruct the scalar field potentials and the Gauss-Bonnet coupling functions from the observable quantities. Using the observationally favored relations for both $n_s$ and $r$, we derive the expressions for both the scalar field potentials and the coupling functions. The implication of the blue-tilted spectrum, $n_t>0$, of the primordial tensor fluctuations is discussed for the reconstructed configurations of the scalar field potential and the Gauss-Bonnet coupling.
Inflationary string cosmology backgrounds can amplify perturbations in a more efficient way than conventional inflationary backgrounds, because the perturbation amplitude may grow - instead of being constant - outside the horizon. If not gauged away, the growing mode can limit the range of validity of a linearized description of perturbations. Even in the restricted linear range, however, this enhanced amplification may lead to phenomenological consequences unexpected in the context of the standard inflationary scenario. In particular, the production of a relic graviton background strong enoug…
The observational data on the anisotropy of the cosmic microwave background constraints the scalar spectral tilt $n_s$ and the tensor to scalar ratio $r$ which depend on the first and second derivatives of the inflaton potential. The information can be used to reconstruct the inflaton potential in the polynomial form up to some orders. However, for some classes of potentials, $n_s$ and $r$ behave as $n_s(N)$ and $r(N)$ universally in terms of the number of e-folds $N$. The universal behaviour of $n_s(N)$ can be used to reconstruct a class of inflaton potentials. By parametrizing one of the par…
Attractor inflation is a particularly robust framework for developing inflationary models that are insensitive to the details of the potential. Such models are most often considered in the metric formulation of gravity. However, non-minimal models may not necessarily maintain their attractor nature in the Palatini formalism where the connection is independent of the metric. In this work, we employ the $β$-function formalism to classify the strong coupling limit of inflationary models in both the metric and the Palatini approaches. Furthermore, we determine the range of values for the non-minim…
We show that Gravitational Waves are exponetially amplified in the inflationary phase in Brans-Dicke theory, so that it would be possible to detect them and in this way verify several features of physical reality.
We present three non-parametric Bayesian primordial reconstructions using Planck 2018 polarization data: linear spline primordial power spectrum reconstructions, cubic spline inflationary potential reconstructions and sharp-featured primordial power spectrum reconstructions. All three methods conditionally show hints of an oscillatory feature in the primordial power spectrum in the multipole range $\ell\sim20$ to $\ell\sim50$, which is to some extent preserved upon marginalization. We find no evidence for deviations from a pure power law across a broad observable window ($50\lesssim\ell\lesssi…
We derive a lower bound on the field excursion for the tachyon inflation, which is determined by the amplitude of the scalar perturbation and the number of $e$-folds before the end of inflation. Using the relation between the observables like $n_s$ and $r$ with the slow-roll parameters, we reconstruct three classes of tachyon potentials. The model parameters are determined from the observations before the potentials are reconstructed, and the observations prefer the concave potential. We also discuss the constraints from the reheating phase preceding the radiation domination for the three clas…
In this work we construct a bottom-up reconstruction technique for Loop Quantum Cosmology scalar-tensor theories, from the observational indices. Particularly, the reconstruction technique is based on fixing the functional form of the scalar-to-tensor ratio as a function of the $e$-foldings number. The aim of the technique is to realize viable inflationary scenarios, and the only assumption that must hold true in order for the reconstruction technique to work is that the dynamical evolution of the scalar field obeys the slow-roll conditions. We shall use two functional forms for the scalar-to-…
We use a mathematical approach based on the constraints systems in order to reconstruct the equation of state and the inflationary potential for the inflaton field from the observed spectral indices for the density perturbations $n_{s}$ and the tensor to scalar ratio $r$. From the astronomical data, we can observe that the measured values of these two indices lie on a two-dimensional surface. We express these indices in terms of the Hubble slow-roll parameters and we assume that $n_{s}-1=h\left( r\right) $. For the function $h\left( r\right) $, we consider three cases, where $h\left( r\right) …
In this work we consider a combined theoretical framework comprised by $F(R)$ gravity and a kinetic scalar field. The kinetic energy of the scalar field dominates over its potential for all cosmic times, and the kinetic scalar potential is chosen to be small and non-trivial. In this case, we show that the primordial gravitational wave energy spectrum of vacuum $F(R)$ gravity is significantly enhanced and can be detectable in future interferometers. The kinetic scalar thus affects significantly the inflationary era, since it extends its duration, but also has an overall amplifying effect on the…
We exhibit a resonance mechanism of amplification of density perturbations in inflationary mo-dels, using a minimal set of ingredients (an effective cosmological constant, a scalar field minimally coupled to the gravitational field and matter), common to most models in the literature of inflation. This mechanism is based on the structure of homoclinic cylinders, emanating from an unstable periodic orbit in the neighborhood of a saddle-center critical point, present in the phase space of the model. The cylindrical structure induces oscillatory motions of the scales of the universe whenever the …
We study a mechanism for the amplification of the inflationary scalar perturbation when the inflaton field action is non-canonical, i.e. the inflaton kinetic term has a non-standard form. For such a case the speed of sound of the perturbations generated during inflation is less than one and in general changes with time. Furthermore in such models, even when the scalar field potential is negligible, diverse inflationary attractors may exist. The possible effects of a speed of sound approaching zero during some stage of inflation may lead to a large amplification for the amplitude of the scalar …
In this paper the focus is on inflationary dynamics in the context of Einstein Gauss-Bonnet gravitational theories. We investigate the implications of the slow-roll condition on the slow-roll indices and we investigate how the inflationary dynamical evolution is affected by the presence of the Gauss-Bonnet coupling to the scalar field. For exemplification of our analysis we investigate how the dynamics of inflationary cubic, quartic order and also exponential scalar potentials are affected by the non-trivial Gauss-Bonnet coupling to the scalar field. As we demonstrate it is possible to obtain …
We further clarify how scalar metric perturbations are amplified in an inflationary cosmology. We first construct a simple, analytic model of an inflationary cosmology in which the expansion scale factor evolves continuously from an inflationary era to a radiation-dominated era. From this model, it is clear to see how scalar perturbations are amplified. Second, we examine the recent claims of Grishchuk, and the reply by Deruelle and Mukhanov, regarding the evolution of scalar perturbations through an abrupt transition in the equation of state of the cosmological fluid. We demonstrate that the …
The discovery of many novel realizations of the inflationary universe paradigm has led to a degeneracy problem: many different inflationary Lagrangians generate the same perturbation spectra. Resolving this problem requires the future discovery of additional observables, beyond the scalar adiabatic and tensor two-point functions on CMB scales. One important source of degeneracy arises in models where the density perturbation is generated by a non-inflationary degree of freedom, for example, through curvatons or modulated reheating. We consider the curvaton scenario as representative of this cl…
We derive the reconstruction formulae for the inflation model with the non-minimal derivative coupling term. If reconstructing the potential from the tensor-to-scalar ratio, we could obtain the potential without using the high friction limit. As an example, we reconstruct the potential from the parametrization $r=8α/(N+β)^γ$, which is a general form of the $α$-attractor. The reconstructed potential has the same asymptotic behavior as the T- and E-model if we choose $γ=2$ and $α\ll1$. We also discuss the constraints from the reheating phase preceding the radiation domination by assuming the par…
The origin of large scale magnetic fields is one of the most puzzling topics in cosmology and astrophysics. It is assumed that the observed magnetic fields result from the amplification of an initial field produced in the early universe. In this paper we compute the exact power spectrum of magnetic fields created after inflation best known as post inflationary magnetic fields, using the first order cosmological perturbation theory. Our treatment differs from others works because we include an infrared cutoff which encodes only causal modes in the spectrum. The cross-correlation between magneti…
The inflationary cosmology is analyzed from the point of view of squeezed quantum states. As noted by Grishchuk and Sidorov, the amplification of quantum fluctuations into macroscopic perturbations which occurs during cosmic inflation is a process of quantum squeezing. We carefully develop the squeezed state formalism and derive the equations that govern the evolution of a gaussian initial state. We derive the power spectrum of density perturbations for a simple inflationary model and discuss its features. We conclude that the squeezed state formalism provides an interesting framework within w…
In this paper, we apply reconstruction techniques to recover the potential parameters for a particular class of single-field models, the $α$-attractor (supergravity) models of inflation. This also allows to derive the inflaton vacuum expectation value at horizon crossing. We show how to use this value as one of the input variables to constrain the postaccelerated inflationary phase. We assume that the tensor-to-scalar ratio $r$ is of the order of $10^{-3}$ , a level reachable by the expected sensitivity of the next-generation CMB experiments.
We investigate the inflationary realization in the context of unimodular $F(T)$ gravity, which is based on the $F(T)$ modification of teleparallel gravity, in which one imposes the unimodular condition through the use of Lagrange multipliers. We develop the general reconstruction procedure of the $F(T)$ form that can give rise to a given scale-factor evolution, and then we apply it in the inflationary regime. We extract the Hubble slow-roll parameters that allow us to calculate various inflation-related observables, such as the scalar spectral index and its running, the tensor-to-scalar ratio,…
In this work we shall use a bottom-up approach for obtaining viable inflationary Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet models which are also compatible with the GW170817 event. Specifically, we shall use a recently developed theoretical framework in which we shall specify only the tensor-to-scalar ratio, in terms of the $e$-foldings number. Starting from the tensor-to-scalar ratio, we shall reconstruct from it the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet theory which can yield such a tensor-to-scalar ratio, finding the scalar potential and the Gauss-Bonnet coupling scalar function as functions of the $e$-foldings number. Accord…
The reconstruction of a k-essence inflationary universe, considering the unification between the swampland criteria and the attractor given by the scalar spectral index $n_S(N)$ together with the slow roll parameter $ε(N)$in terms of the number of $e$-folds $N$ is studied. In the context of a coupling of the form $L(ϕ)\,X$ in the k-essence model, we find the effective potential $V$ and the coupling parameter $L$ in terms of the scalar spectral index and the slow roll parameter under a general formalism. To apply the unification in our model, we consider some examples in order to rebuild the ef…
By using the relations between the slow-roll parameters and the power spectrum for the single field slow-roll inflation, we derive the scalar spectral tilt $n_s$ and the tensor to scalar ratio $r$ for the constant slow-roll inflation and obtain the constraint on the slow-roll parameter $η$ from the Planck 2015 results. The inflationary potential for the constant slow-roll inflation is then reconstructed in the framework of both general relativity and scalar-tensor theory of gravity, and compared with the recently reconstructed E model potential. In the strong coupling limit, we show that the $…
We apply the bottom-up reconstruction technique in the context of bouncing cosmology in F(R) gravity, where the starting point is a suitable ansatz of observable quantity (like spectral index or tensor to scalar ratio) rather than a priori form of Hubble parameter. In inflationary scenario, the slow roll conditions are assumed to hold true, and thus the observational indices have general expressions in terms of the slow-roll parameters, as for example the tensor to scalar ratio in F(R) inflation can be expressed as $r = 48ε_F^2$ with $ε_F = -\frac{1}{H_F^2}\frac{dH_F}{dt_F}$ and $H_F$, $t_F$ a…
We reconstruct scalar field theories to realize inflation compatible with the BICEP2 result as well as the Planck. In particular, we examine the chaotic inflation model, natural (or axion) inflation model, and an inflationary model with a hyperbolic inflaton potential. We perform an explicit approach to find out a scalar field model of inflation in which any observations can be explained in principle.
In most of the literature on evolution of cosmological magnetic fields, it is found that large-scale magnetic fields evolve as $B^{2}\propto a^{-4}$ (adiabatic magnetic decay) where $a$ is the cosmological scale factor and $B$ is the cosmological magnetic field. This rapid decay has been considered as the main obstacle against magnetic fields produced during the inflationary epoch from surviving until today and seeding the observed fields. However, recent reports of first ever detection of intergalactic fields, with strengths around $10^{-6}G$ are a mystery [1-4]. One possible explanation is t…
We derive an exact $f(T)$ gravity in the absence of ordinary matter in Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) universe, where $T$ is the teleparallel torsion scalar. We show that vanishing of the energy-momentum tensor $\mathcal{T}^{μν}$ of matter does not imply vanishing of the teleparallel torsion scalar, in contrast to general relativity, where the Ricci scalar vanishes. The theory provides an exponential (inflationary) scale factor independent of the choice of the sectional curvature. In addition, the obtained $f(T)$ acts just like cosmological constant in the flat space model. Nevertheless, it …
A recent paper by Martin and Schwarz [1] argues that the ``standard inflationary result" has been finally proven. The result itself is formulated as: ``the closer the inflationary epoch is to the de Sitter space-time, the less important are large-scale gravitational waves in the CMBR today". Beginning from the basic equations of Grishchuk [2, 3] the authors say [1] that Grishchuk's conclusion about approximate equality of metric amplitudes for gravitational waves and density perturbations ``is wrong because the time evolution of the scalar metric perturbation through the (smooth) reheating tra…
As a candidate bound for the Binary Black Hole (BBH) merger events detected by LIGO/Virgo, Primordial Black Holes (PBHs) provide a useful tool to investigate the primordial curvature perturbations on small scales. Using the GWTC-1 to GWTC-3 catalogs, under the scenario that PBHs originate from large primordial curvature perturbations on small scales during inflationary epoch, we for the first time reconstruct the power spectrum of primordial curvature perturbations on small scales. It is found that the value of the amplitude of the primordial power spectrum is enhanced to $\mathcal{O}(10^{-2})…
We show that expanding or contracting Kasner universes are unstable due to the amplification of gravitational waves (GW). As an application of this general relativity effect, we consider a pre-inflationary anisotropic geometry characterized by a Kasner-like expansion, which is driven dynamically towards inflation by a scalar field. We investigate the evolution of linear metric fluctuations around this background, and calculate the amplification of the long-wavelength GW of a certain polarization during the anisotropic expansion (this effect is absent for another GW polarization, and for scalar…
In this paper, we analyzed inflation from k-essence in the framework of Horndeski gravity. In the specific, we considered models of canonical scalar field and k-essence with quadratic kinetic term. Viable inflationary models can be reconstructed by starting from the cosmological data. Several possibilities are explored in order to correctly reproduce the spectral index and the tensor-to-scalar ratio of primordial cosmological perturbations.

The inflationary origin of primordial black holes (PBHs) relies on a large enhancement of the power spectrum $Δ_ζ$ of the curvature fluctuation $ζ$ at wavelengths much shorter than those of the cosmic microwave background anisotropies. This is typically achieved in models where $ζ$ evolves without interacting significantly with additional (isocurvature) scalar degrees of freedom. However, quantum gravity inspired models are characterized by moduli spaces with highly curved geometries and a large number of scalar fields that could vigorously interact with $ζ$ (as in the cosmological collider pi…
The most conventional mechanism for gravitational waves (gw) production during inflation is the amplification of vacuum metric fluctuations. In this case the gw production can be uniquely related to the inflationary expansion rate $H$. For example, a gw detection close to the present experimental limit (tensor-to-scalar ratio $r \sim 0.1$) would indicate an inflationary expansion rate close to $10^{14} \, {\rm GeV}$. This conclusion, however, would be invalid if the observed gw originated from a different source. We construct and study one of the possible covariant formulations of the mechanis…
We describe in this paper the observables of inflationary models, in particular the spectrum index of torsion scalar perturbations, the tensor-to-scalar ratio, and the running of the spectral index, in the framework of perfect fluid models and F(T) gravity theories through the reconstruction methods. Then, our results on the perfect fluid and F(T) gravity theories of inflation are compared with recent cosmological observations such as the Planck satellite and BICEP2 experiment. Ours studies prove that the perfect fluid and F(T) gravity models can reproduce the inflationary universe consistent …
A scalar-tensor model with Gauss-Bonnet and non-minimal kinetic couplings is considered, in which ghost modes are eliminated via a Lagrange multiplier constraint. A reconstruction procedure is deviced for the scalar potential and Lagrange multiplier, valid for any given cosmological scenario. In particular, inflationary and dark energy cosmologies of different types (power-law, Little-Rip, de Sitter, quasi de Sitter) are reconstructed in such models. It is shown that, for various choices of the kinetic coupling terms, it is possible to obtain a viable inflationary phenomenology compatible with…
In this paper, we reconstruct viable inflationary models by starting from spectral index and tensor-to-scalar ratio from Planck observations. We analyze three different kinds of models: scalar field theories, fluid cosmology and f(R)-modified gravity. We recover the well known R^2-inflation in Jodan frame and Einstein frame representation, the massive scalar inflaton models and two models of inhomogeneous fluid. A model of R^2-correction to Einstein's gravity plus a "cosmological constant" with an exact solution for early time acceleration is reconstructed.
Scalar and tensor cosmological perturbations during an inflationary universe scenario in the context of the a generalized gravity theory are studied. This analyze is carried out considering an ansatz on the variables associated to scalar and tensor perturbation ($z_s$ and $z_t$) in the Jordan frame. In this context, we analyze two different Ansatze for the ratio $z_s/z_t$, and we study in great detail the analytical and exact solutions for the cosmological perturbations together with the corresponding reconstruction of the background variables. Recent observational data from the Planck 2018 re…

We review the results of a model of how nucleation of a new universe occurs, assuming a di quark identification for soliton-anti soliton constituent parts of a scalar field. Initially, we employ a false vacuum potential system; however ,when cosmological expansion is dominated by the Einstein cosmological constant at the end of chaotic inflation, the initial di quark scalar field is not consistent with respect to a semi classical consistency conditions we analyze as the potential changes to the chaotic inflationary potential utilized by Guth. We use Scherrer's derivation of a sound speed being…
In this paper, we analyze the early-time inflation in a scalar-tensor theory of gravity where the scalar field is minimally coupled with the Gauss-Bonnet four dimensional topological invariant. The theory belongs to a class of Horndeski models where the field equations are at the second order like in General Relativity. A viable inflationary scenario must correctly reproduce the last Plank satellite data. By starting from some simple assumptions on the field and on the coupling function between the field and the Gauss-Bonnet term, we derive the spectral index and the tensor-to-scalar ratio of …
The physics of the inflationary universe requires the study of the out of equilibrium evolution of quantum fields in curved spacetime. We present the evolution for both the geometry and the matter (described by the quantum inflaton field) by means of the non-perturbative large N limit combined with semi-classical gravitational dynamics including the back-reaction of quantum fluctuations self-consistently for a new inflation scenario. We provide a criterion for the validity of the classical approximation and a full analysis of the case in which spinodal quantum fluctuations drive the evolution …
We present a reconstruction method for flat Friedman-Robertson-Walker (FRW) spacetime in a subclass of Horndeski theory -- specifically shiftsymmetric, the kinetic gravity braiding (KGB) theory with a non-vanishing conserved current. Choosing the form of the Hubble parameter and kinetic density $X$, we restore the functions $G_2$, $G_3$ of the KGB model. In order to determine whether the model is free of ghosts and Laplacian instabilities and thus cosmologically viable, two conditions related to scalar perturbations are checked. Initially, the Lagrangian does not include the term that describe…
In the first part of this paper, we outline the construction of an inflationary cosmology in the framework where inflation is described by a universally evolving scalar field, with the Lagrangian ${\cal L}_ϕ=-{1/2}(\partialϕ)^2 -V(ϕ)$. By considering a generic situation that inflaton attains a nearly constant velocity, during inflation, $m_P^{-1} (dϕ/dN)\equiv α$ (where $N\equiv \ln a$ is the e-folding time), we find the conditions that have to satisfied by the (reconstructed) scalar potential to be consistent with the WMAP inflationary data. In the second part of this paper, we introduce a no…
The reconstruction of a braneworld inflationary universe considering the parametrization (or attractor) of the scalar spectral index $n_s(N)$ in terms of the number of $e$-foldings N is developed. We also study the possibility that the reconstruction for the scenario of braneworld inflation, can be realized in terms of the tensor to scalar ratio $r(N)$. For both reconstruction methodologies, we consider a general formalism in order to obtain the effective potential as a function of the cosmological parameters $n_s(N)$ or $r(N)$. For both reconstruction methods, we consider the specific example…
