Starting from the hypothesis that the $T_{cc}^+$ discovered at LHCb is a $D^{\ast+} D^0/D^{\ast 0}D^+$ hadronic molecule, we consider the partial width of its heavy quark spin partner, the $T_{cc}^{\ast +}$ as a $D^{\ast +} D^{\ast 0}$ shallow bound state, decaying into the $D^{\ast}Dπ$ final states including the contributions of the $D^{\ast} D$ and $D^{\ast} π$ final state interaction by using a nonrelativistic effective field theory. Because of the existence of the $T_{cc}^+$ pole, the $I=0$ $D^{\ast} D$ rescattering can give a sizeable correction up to about $40\%$ to the decay widths considering only the tree diagrams, and the $D^{\ast} π$ rescattering correction is about $10\%$. The four-body partial widths of the $T_{cc}^{*+}$ into $D Dππ$ are also explicitly calculated, and we find that the interference effect between different intermediate $D^*Dπ$ states is small. The total width of the $T_{cc}^{*+}$ is predicted to be about 41 keV.
Single production of vector-like top partners is becoming a major focus of new searches, as the increasing mass limits on vector-like quarks obtained by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations are such that single production is becoming competitive with respect to pair production. Typically searches focus on decays containing leptons in the final state in order to have less background from the Standard Model processes. However the current centre of mass energies available in the latest LHC runs limit the searches to low masses. Fully hadronic final states may be an alternative option for discovery, a…
We investigate the potential to search for the vector-like top partner in fully hadronic final states at the LHC. An algorithm is developed that kinematically reconstructs the vector-like top. We show that for moderate masses and a large branching fraction into the top quark and Higgs boson, the reconstruction works with good quality.
Motivated by the latest discovery of a new tetraquark $T_{cc}^+$ with two charm quarks and two light antiquarks by LHCb Collaboration, we investigated the $DD^*$ hadronic molecule interpretation of $T_{cc}^+$. By calculation, the mass and the decay width of this new structure $T_{cc}^+$ can be understood in one-meson exchange potential model. The binding energies for these $DD^*$ hadronic molecules with $J^P=1^+$ are around $1MeV$. Besides, we also studied the possible beauty-partners $T_{bb}(10598)$ of hadronic molecule $T^+_{cc}$, which may be feasible in future LHCb experiments.
In this letter, we propose interpolating currents for the X(3872) resonance, and show that, in the Heavy Quark limit of QCD, the X(3872) state should have degenerate partners, independent of its internal structure. Magnitudes of possible I=0 and I=1 components of the X(3872) are also discussed.
We explore the mass splitting of the heavy-light mesons with chiral partner structure in nuclear matter. In our calculation, we employed the heavy hadron chiral perturbation theory with chiral partner structure and the nuclear matter is constructed by putting skyrmions from the standard Skyrme model onto the face-centered cubic crystal and regarding the skyrmion matter as nuclear matter. We find that, although the masses of the heavy-light mesons with chiral partner structure are splitted in the matter-free space and skyrmion phase, they are degenerated in the half-skyrmion phase in which the …
The chiral partner structure of heavy baryons is studied using the bound state approach by binding the heavy-light mesons to nucleon as soliton in an effective Lagrangian for the pseudoscalar and vector mesons based on the hidden local symmetry. In the heavy-light meson sector, we regard the $H$-doublet and $G$-doublet as chiral partners and couple them to light meson with minimal derivative. We find that the chiral partner of $Λ_c(1/2^+,2286)$ is the $Λ_c(1/2^-,3/2^-)$ heavy quark doublet with the mass of about 3.1\,GeV but not ($Λ_c(1/2^-,2595)$, $Λ_c(3/2^-,2625)$) which might be interpreted…
In this work, we investigated the decays of the fully open-flavor tetraquark state $X_0(2900)$ which was observed by the LHCb Collaboration very recently. Here, the $X_0(2900)$ was assigned as a $S-$wave $\bar D^\ast K^\ast$ hadronic molecule with $I=0$, and the effective lagrangian approach was applied to estimate the partial decay widths. Moreover, we also predicted the decay behaviors of the other unobserved $X_{J(J=1,2)}$, which were the spin partners of the $X_0(2900)$ in the $S-$wave $\bar D^\ast K^\ast$ picture. It was pointed out that the $X_1$ state with $I=0$ was a broad state with t…
We extend our previous study on the decay behavior of $P_c$ hadronic molecules to their strange and beauty partners. While $P_c(4380)$ and $P_c(4450)$ locate just below the $\bar DΣ_c^*$ and $\bar D^*Σ_c$ thresholds, respectively, their proposed strange partners $N(1875)$ and $N(2080)$ sit just below the $KΣ^*$ and $K^*Σ$ thresholds, respectively. Using the effective Lagrangian approach as the same as for the study of $P_c$ hadronic molecular states and with the couplings determined by the $\mathrm{SU}(3)$ flavor symmetry, the decay patterns of $N(1875)$ and $N(2080)$ are obtained assuming the…
The coannihilation mechanism is a well-motivated alternative to the simple thermal freeze-out mechanism, where the dark matter relic density can be obtained through the coannihilation with a partner particle of similar mass with dark matter. When the partner particle is neutral, the inelastic nature of dark matter can help it to escape the direct detection limits. In this work, we focus on the coannihilation scenario in which the annihilation cross section is dominated by the partner-partner pair annihilation. We pay special interest on the parameter space where the coannihilation partner is l…
If heavy partners of the Standard Model matter fields are discovered at the LHC it will be imperative to determine their spin in order to uncover the underlying theory. In decay chains, both the spin and the mass hierarchy of all particles involved can influence the resulting angular correlations. We present the necessary conditions for decays involving the matter partners to exhibit angular correlations. In particular we find that when the masses are not degenerate, a heavy fermionic sector always displays angular correlations in cascade decays. When the masses are closely degenerate the size…
X(3872) presents many surprises after its discovery more than ten years ago. Understanding its properties is crucial to understand the spectrum of possible exotic mesons. In this work, X(3872) meson and its heavy quark spin symmetry (HQSS) partners (including the mesons in the bottom sector) are studied within the QCD Sum Rules approach using a current motivated by the molecular picture of X(3872). We predict four heavy partners to X(3872) and bottomonium with the masses and J^PC quantum numbers. Obtained results are in good agreement with the previous studies and available experimental data w…
Models beyond the Standard Model have been proposed to simultaneously solve the problems of naturalness and neutrino mass, in which heavy Majorana neutrinos and vector-like top partners are usually predicted. A new decay channel of the top partner mediated by the heavy Majorana neutrino can thus appear: $T\to b\,W^{+}\to b\,\ell^{+}\ell^{+}q\bar{q'}$. We study in this paper the observability of this decay process through single production of the top partner at the 14 TeV LHC: $pp\to T/\bar{T}$+jets$\to b/\bar{b}+μ^{\pm}μ^{\pm}$+jets. $2σ$ exclusion bounds on the top partner mass and mixing par…
In this work, we have used an Effective Field Theory (EFT) framework based on Heavy Quark Spin (HQSS), Heavy Flavour (HFS) and Heavy Antiquark-Diquark symmetries (HADS). Using a standard lagrangian for the heavy meson-heavy antimeson system, we fit the counter-terms of the model to predict some promising experimental data that can be interpreted as heavy meson-heavy antimeson molecules, that is, the X(3872) and the $Z_{b}(10610)/Z'_{b}(10650)$. Next, and, taking advantage of HADS, we use the same lagrangian to explore the consequences for heavy meson-doubly heavy baryon molecules, which can al…
We consider the phenomenology at the Large Hadron Collider of new heavy vector-like quarks which couple mainly to the third generation quarks via Yukawa interactions, with special emphasis on non-standard doublet representations which are less constrained from present data. We also discuss in detail the flavour limits at tree level and loop level and implications of a generalised CKM mixing matrix to these cases.
We revisit the consequences of the heavy-quark spin symmetry for the possible spin partners of the $X(3872)$. We confirm that, if the $X(3872)$ were a $D\bar{D}^*$ molecular state with the quantum numbers $J^{PC}=1^{++}$, then in the strict heavy-quark limit there should exist three more hadronic molecules degenerate with the $X(3872)$, with the quantum numbers $0^{++}$, $1^{+-}$, and $2^{++}$ in line with previous results reported in the literature. We demonstrate that this result is robust with respect to the inclusion of the one-pion exchange interaction between the $D$ mesons. However, thi…
New vectorlike quarks are predicted in many new physics scenarios beyond the Standard Model~(SM) and could potentially be discovered at the LHC. Based on a simplified model including a singlet vectorlike top partner with charge $2/3$, we investigate the process $pp \to TT$ via a $t$-channel induced by the couplings between the top partner with the first-generation SM quarks. We calculate the production cross section and further study the observability of the heavy top partner in the channel $T\to Wq$ at the high-luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) using final states with same-sign dileptons (electrons or …
The spectrum of the doubly heavy baryons is estimated with respect to the new observation from the LHCb collaboration [Aaij:2017ueg] by using the chiral partner structure and heavy quark spin-flavor symmetry. The effects of heavy quark flavor symmetry breaking and light quark flavor symmetry are considered. The mass splitting of doubly heavy baryons with the same spin but opposite parity arises from the generalized Goldberger-Treiman relation. The intermultiplet one-pion transition and intramultiplet radiative transitions are also be estimated.
We construct an effective hadronic model including single heavy baryons (SHBs) belonging to the $(\mathbf{3},\mathbf{3})$ representation under $\mbox{SU}(3)_L \times \mbox{SU}(3)_R$ symmetry, respecting the chiral symmetry and heavy-qaurk spin-flavor symmetry. When the chiral symmetry is spontaneously broken, the SHBs are divided into the baryons with negative parity of $\bar{\mathbf 3}$ representation under $\mbox{SU}(3)$ flavor symmetry which is the chiral partners to the ones with positive parity of ${\mathbf 6}$ representation. We determine the model parameters from the available experimen…
The $X_0(2900)$ observed by the LHCb Collaboration recently in the $D^-K^+$ invariant mass of the $B^+\to D^+D^-K^+$ process is the first exotic candidate with four different flavors, which opens a new era for the hadron community. Under the assumption that the $X_0(2900)$ is a $I(J^P)=0(0^+)$ $\bar{D}^*K^*$ hadronic molecule, we extract the whole heavy-quark symmetry multiplet formed by the $\left(\bar{D},\bar{D}^*\right)$ doublet and the $K^*$ meson. For the bound state case, there would be two additional $I(J^P)=0(1^+)$ hadronic molecules associated with the $\bar{D}K^*$ and $\bar{D}^*K^*$ …
We review the developments of QCD multipole expansion and its applications to hadronic transitions and some radiative decays of heavy quarkonia. Theoretical predictions are compsred with updated experimental results.
We show that heavy quark axion is not necessarily a hadronic axion, which manifests in the quark and lepton seesaw mechanism. We introduce a heavy $SU(2)$ singlet fermion for each known fermion in order to unify the axion scale and the seesaw scale. The light quarks and leptons gain their masses by the seesaw mechanism. Even though our axion model gives a kind of heavy quark axion, the axion has tree level lepton--axion coupling suppressed by $F_a$, contrary to a widely known belief that heavy quark axions are hadronic.
We review the status of theoretical evaluations of heavy quark and heavy quarkonium hadroproduction cross sections and their comparisons with experimental data.
The spectrum and dominant strong decay properties of the doubly heavy baryons are revisited by using a chiral effective model with chiral partner structure. By regarding the doubly heavy baryons in the ground states and light angular momentum $j_l = 1/2$ sector of the first orbitally excited states as chiral partners to each other, we estimate the mass splitting of the chiral partners which arises from the spontaneous breaking of chiral symmetry to be about $430$ MeV for baryons including an unflavored light quark and about $350$ MeV for that including a strange quark. We point out that, simil…
We studied the hadronic decays of excited states of heavy mesons (D, D_s, B and B_s) to lighter states by emission of pi, eta or K. Wavefunctions and energy levels of these excited states are determined using a Dirac equation for the light quark in the potential generated by the heavy quark (including first order corrections in the heavy quark expansion). Transition amplitudes are computed in the context of the Heavy Chiral Quark Model.
We review the physics of heavy quark and quarkonium production in high energy hadronic collisions. We discuss the status of the theoretical calculations and compare the current results with the most recent measurements from the Tevatron collider experiments.
We explore the consequences of heavy quark spin symmetry for the charmed meson-antimeson system in a contact-range (or pionless) effective field theory. As a trivial consequence, we theorize the existence of a heavy quark spin symmetry partner of the X(3872), with $J^{PC}=2^{++}$, which we call X(4012) in reference to its predicted mass. If we additionally assume that the X(3915) is a $0^{++}$ heavy spin symmetry partner of the X(3872), we end up predicting a total of six $D^{(*)}\bar{D}^{(*)}$ molecular states. We also discuss the error induced by higher order effects such as finite heavy qua…
We summarize the studies on the hadronic production of S- and P-wave $(\bar bc)$ mesons via direct fragmentation of the bottom antiquark as well as the Altarelli-Parisi induced gluon fragmentation.
In the Littlest Higgs model with T-parity (LHT), top-partners (T_-) are produced in pairs at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Each top-partner decays into a top quark (t) and the lightest T-odd gauge partner A_H. We demonstrate reconstruction of the ttbar system decaying hadronically, and measurement of the top-partner mass from the m_{T2} distribution. A top quark from a T_{-} decay is polarized, and we discuss the effect of this polarization on the decay distributions. Because the events consist of highly collinear jets which occasionally overlap each other, we compare distributions using di…
Different theoretical models which attempt to describe hadronic production of heavy quarkonia are reviewed. Firstly, we consider the Color Singlet Model and point out the large discrepancies between the theoretical predictions and the results from the Tevatron detectors. Then some other models are introduced, quickly discussed and confronted with experimental results. Finally, we suggest possible ways to understand the source of the remaining discrepancies.
It is shown that the contribution from double parton scattering to the inclusive double heavy meson yield is quite comparable with the usually considered mechanism of their production at the LHC energy. For some pairs of heavy flavored quarks in the final state the double parton scattering will be a dominant mode of their production.
We discuss results of the $k_t$ - factorization approach for heavy quark-heavy antiquark correlations in proton-proton and proton-antiproton collisions for RHIC, Tevatron and LHC. We consider correlations in the azimuthal angle as well as in the two-dimensional space of transverse momentum of heavy quark and heavy antiquark. We compare results obtained with the help of different unintegrated parton distributions (UPDF) from the literature.
The Standard Model is a successful theory but lack of a mechanism for neutrino mass generation as well as a solution to the naturalness problem. In the models that are proposed to simultaneously solve the two problems, heavy Majorana neutrinos and top partners are usually predicted that can lead to a new decay mode of the top partner mediated by the heavy Majorana neutrinos: $T\to b\,W^{+}\to b\,\ell^{+}\ell^{+}q\bar{q'}$. In this paper, we will study the observability of such a new signature via the pair production process of top partner $pp \to T\bar{T} \to 2b+ \ell^\pm \ell^\pm+4j$ in a mod…
We review heavy quark and quarkonium production in high energy hadronic collisions. We discuss the status of the theoretical calculations and their uncertainties. We then compare the current theoretical results with the most recent measurements from the tevatron collider experiments.
We report about recent results obtained for the muon anomalous magnetic moment. Three-loop kernel functions have been computed to obtain the next-to-next-to-leading-order hadronic vacuum polarization contributions. The numerical result, $a_μ^{\rm{had,NNLO}}=1.24\pm 0.01 \times 10^{-10}$, is of the same order of magnitude as the current uncertainty from the hadronic contributions. For heavy-lepton corrections, analytical results are obtained at four-loop order and compared with the known results.
We study the phenomenology of new heavy vector-like fermions that couple to the third generation quarks via Yukawa interactions, covering all the allowed representations under the standard model gauge groups. We first review tree and loop level bounds on these states. We then discuss tree level decays and loop-induced decays to photon or gluon plus top. The main decays at tree level are to W b and/or Z and Higgs plus top via the new Yukawa couplings. The radiative loop decays turn out to be quite close to the naive estimate: in all cases, in the allowed perturbative parameter space, the branch…
We present preliminary results from the CLEO-II collaboration on a variety of hadronic final states of mesons containing heavy quarks. In particular, the pattern of 2-body \B\ decays is now decisively different that that of \D\ and \K\ decays; perhaps a consequence will be that $τ_{\BM}<τ_{\BZB}$. We have observed `wrong-sign' $\DZ\sto\KP\PIM$ decays, which are probably due to a doubly Cabibbo-suppressed transition.
The discovery of a charged strange hidden-charm state $Z_{cs}$(3985) implies another higher $Z^*_{cs}$ state coupling to $\bar{D}_s^{*-}D^{*0} + c.c$ under the heavy quark spin symmetry. In this paper we discuss a possible hunt for it with data taken at existing facilities. We point out a hint for $Z^*_{cs}$ in the data of $\bar{B}_s^0 \to J/ψK^- K^+$ at LHCb, though weak, in line with the production mechanism of pentaquark $P_c$. We also study the triangular singularity which would possibly enhance the production of $Z^*_{cs}$ in electron-positron collision. Surprisingly, the production rate …
Heavy quarkonium ($Υ$) production at low transverse momentum ($P_\perp$) in high-energy hadronic collisions is revisited from the point of view of transverse momentum dependent (TMD) framework. We perform resummation of double logarithmic correction associated with initial-state soft gluon shower for $b\bar b$ production by employing Collins-Soper-Sterman (CSS) formalism. We show that the CSS formalism provides a nice description of $Υ$ production data in p+$\rm\bar{p}$ collisions at Tevatron and p+p collisions at the LHC.
We calculate the mass shifts of heavy-light scalar mesons due to hadronic loops under the assumption that these vanish for the groundstate heavy-light mesons. The results show that the masses calculated in quark models can be reduced significantly. We stress that the mass alone is not a signal for a molecular interpretation. Both the resulting mass and the width suggest the observed $D_0^*$ state could be a dressed $c\bar q$ state. We give further predictions for the bottom scalar mesons which can be used to test the dressing mechanism.
The production and decay of new possible heavy Majorana neutrinos are analyzed in hadronic collisions. New bounds on the mixing of these particles with standard neutrinos are estimated according to a fundamental representation suggested by grand unified models. A clear signature for these Majorana neutrinos is given by same-sign dileptons plus a charged weak vector boson in the final state. We discuss the experimental possibilities for the future Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN.
The hadronic tau decay channel offers by far the best signature for heavy charged Higgs boson search at the LHC in the large $\tanβ$ region. By exploiting the distinct polarization of the tau and its large transverse mass, along with the accompanying missing--$p_T$, one can probe for a charged Higgs boson up to a mass of about 600 GeV in an essentially background-free environment. The transverse mass distribution of the tau jet also provides a fairly unambiguous estimate of the charged Higgs boson mass.
We calculate the Laurent series expansion up to ${\cal O}(ε^2)$ for all scalar one-loop one-, two-, three- and four-point integrals that are needed in the calculation of hadronic heavy flavour production. The Laurent series up to ${\cal O}(ε^2)$ is needed as input to that part of the NNLO corrections to heavy hadron production at hadron colliders where the one-loop integrals appear in the loop-by-loop contributions. The four-point integrals are the most complicated. The ${\cal O}(ε^2)$ expansion of the four-point integrals contains polylogarithms up to $ Li_4$ and the multiple polylogarithms.
We examine Higgs boson production and decay in heavy-ion collisions at the LHC and future colliders. Owing to the long lifetime of the Higgs boson, its hadronic decays may experience little or no screening from the hot and dense quark-gluon plasma whereas jets from hard scattering processes and from decays of the electro-weak gauge bosons and the top-quark suffer significant energy loss. This distinction can lead to enhanced signal to background ratios in hadronic decay channels and thus, for example, provide alternative ways to probe the Yukawa coupling of the Higgs boson to the bottom quark …
In this letter we study the diffractive photoproduction of heavy quarks in hadronic (pp/pA/AA) interactions for Tevatron and LHC energies. The integrated cross section and rapidity distribution for the process h_1 h_2 --> h_1 h_2 QQBAR (h_i = p,A and Q = c,b) are estimated using the Color Glass Condensate (CGC) formalism. Our results indicate that this production channel has larger cross sections than the competing reactions of double diffractive production and coherent AA reactions initiated by two-photon collisions.
We discuss the consequences of the chiral doubling scenario for baryons built of heavy and light quarks. In particular, we use the soliton description for baryons, demonstrating why each heavy-light baryon should be accompanied by the opposite parity partner. Our argumentation holds both for ordinary baryons and for exotic heavy pentaquarks which are required by the symmetries of QCD to appear in parity doublets, seperated by the mass shift of the chiral origin. Interpreting the recently observed by BaBaR, CLEO and Belle charmed mesons with assignment $(0^+,1^+)$ as the chiral partners of know…
Recently, significant enhancements of $e^{+} e^{-}$ pair production at very low transverse momentum ($p_{T} < 0.15$ GeV/c) were observed by the STAR collaboration in peripheral hadronic A+A collisions. This excesses can not be described by the QGP thermal radiation and $ρ$ in-medium broadening calculations. This is a sign of coherent photon-photon interactions, which were conventionally studied only in ultra-peripheral collisions. In this article, we present calculations of lepton pair ($e^{+}e^{-}$ and $μ^{+}μ^{-}$) production from coherent photon-photon interactions in hadronic A+A collision…
Typically the materialization of high energetic transverse partons to hadronic jets is assumed to occur outside the reaction zone in a relativistic heavy ion collision. In contrast, a quantum mechanical estimate yields a time on the order of only a few fm/c for building up the hadronic wavefunction for jets with typical transverse momenta of pT < 10 GeV as accessible at RHIC facilities. The role of possible elastic or inelastic collisions of these high pT particles with the bulk of hadrons inside the fireball is addressed by means of an opacity expansion in the number of collisions. This analy…
The discovery of the $X(3872)$ meant the revival of the heavy meson spectroscopy beyond naive $q\bar q$ structures. Once that the $SU(3)$ scheme, which was very useful in the dawn of the quark models, does not work for these states, one has to use new symmetries, like Heavy Quark Spin Symmetry (HQSS) and Heavy Flavor Symmetry (HFS), to look for new states. However, at the energy regions where these new states appear, new factors are involved and it is not straightforward to relate the predictions of the symmetries with the data. In this work, we present a critical analysis of this problem and …
The origin and main properties of new heavy hadrons as dark matter candidates, are represented. Low-energy interactions of new hadrons with leptons and nucleons are described in the terms of effective vertexes. We consider the lowest excited levels of new mesons in the frame-work of the Heavy Quark Effective Theory. The effect of fine and hyper-fine splitting of excited states follows directly from this theory. We analyze phenomenological consequences of this effect as manifestation of dark matter particles.
Effects of vacuum polarization by hadronic and heavy-fermion insertions were the last unknown two-loop QED corrections to high-energy Bhabha scattering and have been first announced in \cite{Actis:2007fs}. Here we describe the corrections in detail and explore their numerical influence. The hadronic contributions to the virtual O(alpha^2) QED corrections to the Bhabha-scattering cross-section are evaluated using dispersion relations and computing the convolution of hadronic data with perturbatively calculated kernel functions. The technique of dispersion integrals is also employed to derive th…
We study the effects of heavy Majorana neutrinos on the Higgs sector of the MSSM via radiative corrections. We work within the SUSY context where the MSSM particle content is enlarged with right handed neutrinos and their corresponding SUSY partners, the sneutrinos, and where compatibility with neutrino data is required. We compute the one-loop corrections to the mass of the lightest MSSM CP-even neutral Higgs boson from Majorana neutrinos and their SUSY partners and assume a seesaw mechanism of type I for neutrino mass generation. A negative and sizeable Higgs mass correction of up to -5 GeV …
Charm and bottom transport coefficients in a medium constituted of light mesons, such as is formed in the hadronic phase of Heavy Ion Collisions, are obtained within an effective field theory approach implementing heavy quark symmetry and chiral symmetry breaking. Heavy flavor propagates in the medium as $D/B$ and $D^*/B^*$ degrees of freedom, and unitarization of the lowest order heavy-light meson amplitudes is used in order to reach high temperatures. The latter accounts for dynamically generated resonances in isospin 1/2 channels, a feature that leads to a more efficient heavy flavor diffus…
Searches for new fermionic states heavier than the top quark are being pursued by the CMS & ATLAS collaborations, pushing the mass bounds towards the TeV scale. Although a chiral fourth generation of quarks is now excluded by the LHC results, models going beyond the Standard Model predict the existence of heavy vector-like top partners as potential smoking gun signatures. Relying on a model-independent parametrisation, we present the first results of a dedicated software called XQCAT (eXtra Quark Combined Analysis Tool), which recasts publicly available experimental data from direct and Supers…
