If non-Abelian gauge fields in $SU(3)$ QCD have a line-singularity leading to non-commutativity with respect to successive partial-derivative operations, the non-Abelian Bianchi identity is violated. The violation as an operator is shown to be equivalent to violation of Abelian-like Bianchi identities. Then there appear eight Abelian-like conserved magnetic monopole currents of the Dirac type in $SU(3)$ QCD. Exact Abelian (but kinematical) symmetries appear in non-Abelian $SU(3)$ QCD. Here we try to show the Abelian dual Meissner effect due to the above Abelian-like monopoles are responsible for color confinement in $SU(3)$ QCD. If this picture is correct, the string tension of non-Abelian Wilson loops is reproduced fully by that of the Abelian Wilson loops. This is called as perfect Abelian dominance. In this report, the perfect Abelian dominance is shown to exist with the help of the multilevel method but without introducing additional smoothing techniques like partial gauge fixings, although lattice sizes studied are not large enough to study the infinite volume limit. Perfect monopole dominance is also shown without any additional gauge fixing. Abelian electric fields are squeezed due to solenoidal monopole currents and the penetration length for an Abelian electric field of a single color is the same as that of non-Abelian electric field. The coherence length is also measured directly through the correlation of the monopole density and the Polyakov loop pair. The Ginzburg-Landau parameter indicates that the vacuum type is the weak type I (dual) superconductor. The results obtained above without any additional assumptions as well as more clear previous $SU(2)$ results seem to suggest strongly the above Abelian dual Meissner picture of color confinement mechanism.
The properties of the thermal abelian monopoles are studied in the deconfinement phase of the SU(2) gluodynamics. To remove effects of Gribov copies the simulated annealing algorithm is applied to fix the maximally abelian gauge. Computing the density of the thermal abelian monopoles in the temperature range between 1.5T_c and 6.9T_c we show, by comparison with earlier results, that the Gribov copies effects might be as high as 20% making proper gauge fixing mandatory. We find that in the infinite temperature limit the monopole density converges to its value in 3-dimensional theory. To study t…
The evidence is reviewed for the mechanism of colour confinement in QCD by dual superconductivity of the ground state, i.e. by condensation of monopoles.
Color confinement can be understood by the dual Higgs theory, where monopole condensation leads to the exclusion of the electric flux from the QCD vacuum. We study the role of the monopole for color confinement by investigating the monopole current system. When the self-energy of the monopole current is small enough, long and complicated monopole world-lines appear, which is a signal of monopole condensation. In the dense monopole system, the Wilson loop obeys the area-law, and the string tension and the monopole density have similar behavior as the function of the self-energy, which seems tha…
We study the role of the monopole for color confinement by using the monopole current system. For the self-energy of the monopole current less than ln$(2d-1)$, long and complicated monopole world-lines appear and the Wilson loop obeys the area law, and therefore the monopole current system almost reproduces essential features of confinement properties in the long-distance physics. In the short-distance physics, however, the monopole-current theory would become nonlocal due to the monopole size effect. This monopole size would provide a critical scale of QCD in terms of the dual Higgs mechanism…
We report on further progress in our programme of understanding confinement in 3d and 4d SU(2) gauge theory in terms of Z(2) monopoles. A sufficient condition for confinement was previously translated into Z(2) monopole correlation inequalities in a related SO(3) gauge theory. We shall discuss the physical picture underlying this scenario and present some Monte Carlo evidence concerning the monopole correlation inequalities.
Extended Abelian monopoles are investigated in SU(2) lattice gauge theory in three dimensions. Monopoles are computed by Abelian projection in several gauges, including the maximal Abelian gauge. The number $N_m$ of extended monopoles in a cube of size $m^3$ (in lattice units) is defined as the number of elementary ($1^3$) monopoles minus antimonopoles in the cube ($m=1,2,\ldots$). The distribution of $1^3$ monopoles in the nonlocal maximal Abelian gauge is shown to be essentially random, while nonscaling of the density of $1^3$ monopoles in some local gauges, which has been previously observe…
The confinement mechanism in the nonperturbative QCD is studied in terms of topological excitation as QCD-monopoles and instantons. In the 't Hooft abelian gauge, QCD is reduced into an abelian gauge theory with monopoles, and the QCD vacuum can be regarded as the dual superconductor with monopole condensation, which leads to the dual Higgs mechanism. The monopole-current theory extracted from QCD is found to have essential features of confinement. We find also close relation between monopoles and instantons using the lattice QCD. In this framework, the lowest $0^{++}$ glueball (1.5 $\sim$ 1.7…
Confinement via 't Hooft-Mandelstam monopoles is studied for the positive plaquette model in SU(2) lattice gauge theory. Positive plaquette model configurations are projected into the maximum abelian gauge and the magnetic current extracted. The resulting magnetic current is used to compute monopole contributions to Wilson loops and extract a monopole contribution to the string tension. As was previously found for the Wilson action, the monopole contribution to the string tension agrees with the string tension calculated directly from the SU(2) links. The fact that the positive plaquette model…
New evidence is discussed of monopole condensation in the vacuum of SU(2) and SU(3) gauge theories. Monopoles defined by different abelian projections do condense in the transition to the confined phase and show the same behavior. For SU(2) critical indices are determined by finite size scaling analysis and the results agree with the 3d Ising Model, as expected.
We construct the creation operator of a vortex for SU(2) pure gauge theory using the methods developed for monopoles. We interpret its vacuum expectation value as a disorder parameter for the deconfinement phase transition and find that it behaves in the vacuum in a similar way to monopoles. Results are extrapolated to the thermodynamical limit using finite-size scaling.
We have proposed the non-Abelian dual superconductivity in SU(3) Yang-Mills theory for the mechanism of quark confinement, and we presented the numerical evidences in preceding lattice conferences by using the proposed gauge link decomposition to extract magnetic monopole in the gauge invariant way. In this talk, we focus on the dual Meissner effects in view of the magnetic monopole in SU(3) Yang-Mills theory. We measure the chromoelectric and chromomagnetic flux due to a pair of quark and antiquark source at finite temperature. Then, we measure the correlation function of Polyakov loops and Po…
We discuss the recent construction of new exact finite temperature instanton solutions with a non-trivial value of the Polyakov loop at infinity. They can be shown, in a precise and gauge invariant way, to be formed by the superposition of n BPS monopoles for an SU(n) gauge group.
The abelian-projected monopole loop distribution is extracted from maximal abelian gauge simulations. The number of loops of a given length falls as a power of the length nearly independent of lattice size. This power increases with $β=4/g^2$, reaching five around $β=2.85$, beyond which loops any finite fraction of the lattice size vanish in the infinite lattice limit, suggesting the continuum theory lacks confinement.
A gauge invariant procedure for extracting combined SO(3)-Z2 monopoles in positive-plaquette SU(2) lattice gauge theory is shown. When these monopoles are eliminated through a constraint, the theory deconfines for all $β$ on $12^4$ and $20^4$ lattices even in the strong coupling limit, despite a rather strong average plaquette of around 0.64. This corresponds to an effective Wilson $β$ of 2.45, at which Wilson-action lattices would be far into the confining region. This suggests that Wilson-action confinement may be a strong-coupling lattice artifact; the continuum limit may not confine.
We present results for the heavy quark potential computed in SU(3) from magnetic monopoles and from center vortices. The monopoles are identified after fixing SU(3) lattice configurations to the maximal abelian gauge. The center vortices are identified after using an indirect center gauge fixing scheme which we describe for SU(3). Z(3) center vortices are extracted and used to compute the potential. The values of the string tensions from monopoles and vortices are compared to the full SU(3) string tension.
We compute, in SU(3) pure gauge theory, the vacuum expectation value (vev) of the operator which creates a $Z_3$ vortex wrapping the lattice through periodic boundary conditions (dual Polyakov line). The technique used is the same already tested in the SU(2) case. The dual Polyakov line proves to be a good disorder parameter for confinement, and has a similar behaviour to the monopole condensate. The new features which characterise the construction of the disorder operator in SU(3) are emphasised.
We demonstrate that the disorder parameter $<μ>$ to detect dual superconductivity in the confining phase of QCD is the v.e.v. of a magnetically charged, Dirac like, gauge invariant operator $μ$. We also show that the abelian projection on the lattice is determined up to terms O(a^2) (a = lattice spacing).
With the help of the cooling method applied to SU(2) lattice gauge theory at non-zero $T \le T_c$ we present numerical evidence for the existence of superpositions of Kraan-van Baal caloron (or BPS monopole pair) solutions with non-trivial holonomy, which might constitute an important contribution to the semi-classical approximation of the partition function.
We study the relation between instantons and monopoles in the abelian gauge. First, we investigate the monopole in the multi-instanton solution in the continuum Yang-Mills theory using the Polyakov gauge. At a large instanton density, the monopole trajectory becomes highly complicated, which can be regarded as a signal of monopole condensation. Second, we study instantons and monopoles in the SU(2) lattice gauge theory both in the maximally abelian (MA) gauge and in the Polyakov gauge. Using the $16^3 \times 4$ lattice, we find monopole dominance for instantons in the confinement phase even at…
The effect of restricting the plaquette ($1\times 1$ Wilson loop) to be greater than a certain cutoff is studied. The action considered is the standard Wilson action with the addition of the plaquette restriction, which does not affect the continuum limit. A deconfining phase transition occurs as the cutoff is raised, even in the strong coupling limit. Abelian-projected monopoles in the maximal abelian gauge are strongly suppressed by the action restriction. Analysis of the steeply declining monopole loop distribution function indicates that for cutoffs $c > 0.5$, large monopole loops which ar…
We formulate a stochastic gauge fixing method to study the gauge dependence of Abelian projection. In this method, one can change the gauge from the maximally Abelian one to no gauge fixing continuously. We have found that the linear part of the heavy quark potential from Abelian contribution depends little on the gauge parameter. Similar results have been obtained for the monopole contribution part.We also investigate the gauge dependence of the length of monopole loop, which is known to be important for the confinement, and monopole density. These results suggest that the picture that monopo…
We study the correlation between instantons and QCD-monopoles both in the lattice gauge theory and in the multi-instanton system using the maximally abelian gauge. First, we find the existence of an almost linear correlation between the total length of monopole trajectories and the total number of pseudoparticles (instantons and anti-instantons) in the $16^{3}\times4$ SU(2) lattice. Second, we study the features of QCD-monopole in the SU(2) multi-instanton vacuum on the $16^{4}$ lattice as a random ensemble of pseudoparticles. A signal of monopole condensation is found as the clustering of mon…
We have pointed out that the $SU(3)$ Yang-Mills theory has a new way of reformulation using new field variables (minimal option), in addition to the conventional option adopted by Cho, Faddeev and Niemi (maximal option). The reformulation enables us to change the original non-Abelian gauge field into the new field variables such that one of them called the restricted field gives the dominant contribution to quark confinement in the gauge-independent way. In the minimal option, especially, the restricted field is non-Abelian $U(2)$ and involves the non-Abelian magnetic monopole. In the precedin…
We construct the creation operator of a vortex using the methods developed for monopoles. The vacuum expectation value of this operator is interpreted as a disorder parameter describing vortex condensation and is studied numerically on a lattice in SU(2) gauge theory. The result is that vortices behave in the vacuum in a similar way to monopoles. The disorder parameter is different from zero in the confined phase, and vanishes at the deconfining phase transition. We discuss this behaviour in terms of symmetry. Correlation functions of the vortex creation operator at zero temperature are also i…
This is the short review of Monte-Carlo studies of quark confinement in lattice QCD. After abelian projections both in the maximally abelian and Polyakov gauges, it is seen that the monopole part alone is responsible for confinement. A block spin transformation on the dual lattice suggests that lattice $SU(2)$ QCD is always ( for all $β$) in the monopole condensed phase and so in the confinement phase in the infinite volume limit.
We give a short review of recently obtained results on a new lattice formulation of the non-linear change of variables which was once called the Cho--Faddeev--Niemi decomposition in SU(2) Yang-Mills theory. Based on this formulation, we proposed a new gauge-invariant definition of the magnetic monopole current which guarantees the magnetic charge quantization. We also demonstrated the magnetic monopole dominance in the string tension in SU(2) Yang-Mills theory on a lattice. Our formulation enables one to reproduce in the gauge-invariant way remarkable results obtained so far only in the Maxima…
The role of monopoles in the confining behavior of compact lattice $QED_3$ is studied using an adiabatic cooling method. Monopole-antimonopole pairs with large separation suvive cooling and the presence or absence of such plasma monopoles provides a useful classification of the lattice gauge field configurations at large $β$. By calculating observables in subsets of gauge field configurations which contain or do not contain plasma monopoles it is seen that, in compact $QED_3$, monopoles dominate the long distance physics, e.g., the string tension, linear confining potential and dynamical mass …
We present results of $SU(3)$ Monte-Carlo studies of a new color confinement scheme due to Abelian-like monopoles of the Dirac type without any gauge-fixing. We get (1) perfect Abelian dominance with respect to the static potentials on $12^4\sim 16^4$ lattice at $β=5.6-5.8$ using the multilevel method, (2) monopole as well as Abelian dominances with respect to the static potentials by evaluating Polyakov loop correlators on $24^3\times4$ lattice at $β=5.6$. (3) Abelian dual Meissner effects are studied directly by measuring Abelian color fields and monopole currents around the static source. T…
The compact Abelian model in three space--time dimensions is studied in the presence of external electromagnetic fields at finite temperatures. We show that the deconfinement phase transition is independent on the strength of the external fields. This result is in agreement with our observation that the external fields create small--size magnetic dipoles from the vacuum which do not influence the confining properties of the model. Contrary to the deconfinement phase, the internal field in the direction of the applied external field is attenuated in the confinement phase, this screening becomes…
We study color confinement properties of the multi-instanton system, which seems to carry an essence of the nonperturbative QCD vacuum. Here we assume that the multi-instanton system is characterized by the infrared suppression of instantons as $f(ρ)\sim ρ^{-5}$ for large size $ρ$. We first investigate a monopole-clustering appearing in the maximally abelian (MA) gauge by considering the correspondence between instantons and monopoles. In order to clarify the infrared monopole properties, we make the ``block-spin'' transformation for monopole currents. The feature of monopole trajectories chan…
Monopole and photon contributions to Wilson loops are calculated using Monte-Carlo simulations of SU(2) QCD in the maximally abelian gauge. The string tensions of SU(2) QCD are well reproduced by extended monopole contributions alone.
Finite temperature SU(2) lattice gauge theory is investigated in a 3D cubic box with fixed boundary conditions provided by a discretized, static BPS monopole solution with varying core scale $μ$. Using heating and cooling techniques we establish that for discrete $μ$-values stable classical solutions either of self-dual or of pure magnetic type exist inside the box. Having switched on quantum fluctuations we compute the Polyakov line and other local operators. For different $μ$ and at varying temperatures near the deconfinement transition we study the influence of the boundary condition on the…
We present results of $SU(3)$ Monte-Carlo studies of a new color confinement scheme proposed recently due to Abelian-like monopoles of the Dirac type corresponding in the continuum limit to violation of the non-Abelian Bianchi identities (VNABI). The simulations are done without any additional gauge-fixing smoothing the vacuum. We get for the first time, in pure $SU(3)$ simulations with the standard Wilson action, (1) the perfect Abelian dominance with respect to the static potentials on $12^4\sim 16^4$ lattices at $β=5.6-5.8$ using the multilevel method. (2) The perfect monopole as well as Ab…
We study theoretical bases of the dual Higgs theory for confinement physics in QCD in terms of monopoles and the gluon configuration in the maximally abelian (MA) gauge. Abelian dominance for the confinement force can be analytically proved by regarding the off-diagonal angle variable as a random variable in the lattice formalism. In the long-distance scale, the contribution of off-diagonal gluons to the Wilson loop cancels each other and exhibits a perimeter law behavior, which leads to exact abelian dominance on the string tension if the finite size effect of the Wilson loop is removed. We i…
An effective monopole action is derived from vacuum configurations after abelian projection in the maximally abelian gauge in $SU(2)$ QCD. Entropy dominance over energy of monopole loops is seen on the renormalized lattice with the spacing $b>b_c\simeq 5.2\times10^{-3} Λ_L^{-1}$ when the physical volume of the system is large enough. QCD confinement may be interpreted as the (dual) Meissner effect due to the monopole condensation.
Aspects of the monopole condensation picture of confinement are discussed. First, the nature of the monopole singularities in the abelian projection approach is analysed. Their apparent gauge dependence is shown to have a natural interpretation in terms of 't~Hooft-Polyakov-like monopoles in euclidean SU(2) gauge theory. Next, the results and predictions of a realization of confinement through condensation of such monopoles are summarized and compared with numerical data.
New topological objects, which we call center monopoles, naturally arise in the Maximal Center Projection of SU(3) gluodynamics. The condensate of the center monopoles is the order parameter of the theory.
Based on the dual superconductor picture, we study the confinement phenomena systematically, using the lattice QCD, the monopole-current dynamics and the dual Ginzburg-Landau (DGL) theory. (1) We study the origin of abelian dominance for the confinement force in the maximally abelian (MA) gauge in terms of the gluon-field properties using the lattice QCD. In the MA gauge, the off-diagonal gluon amplitude is strongly suppressed, and the off-diagonal gluon phase tends to be random, according to the weakness of the constraint from the QCD action. Within the random-variable approximation for the o…
The dual Meissner effect is described and numerically observed in a gauge-invariant way in lattice Monte-Carlo simulations of pure SU(2) QCD. A gauge-invariant monopole-like quantity on the lattice is defined by a gauge-invariant Abelian-like field strength. The Abelian-like field strength is expressed in terms of a unit-vector in color space which is constructed by a non-Abelian field strength itself. It is just equal to the absolute value of the corresponding non-Abelian field strength except for the sign. In this note we show the theoretical background and most numerical results will be pub…
The status of our understanding of confinement is reviewed. The evidence from lattice is that monopole condensation, or dual superconductivity, is at work. Confinement is an order-disorder transition. Different monopole species look equivalent, indicating that the symmetry of the disordered phase is more interesting that we understand.
Recent studies of confinement based on the idea of abelian monopole condensation are reviewed briefly. Emphasis is placed on the approach to get the effective monoole action using the blockspin transformation on the dual lattice. The trajectory obtained looks to be the renormalized one in $SU(2)$ QCD. A disorder parameter of confinement is constructed. Monopole condensation occurs also in $SU(3)$ QCD.
We fix $SU(2)$ lattice gauge fields to the Maximally Abelian gauge in both three and four dimensions. We extract the corresponding $U(1)$ fields and monopole current densities and calculate separately the confining string tensions arising from these $U(1)$ fields and monopole `condensates'. We generate multiple Gribov copies and study how the $U(1)$ fields and monopole distributions vary between these different copies. As expected, we find substantial variations in the number of monopoles, their locations and in the values of the $U(1)$ field strengths. The string tensions extracted from `extr…
We extend our previous study of magnetic monopole currents in the maximally Abelian gauge [hep-lat/9712003] to larger lattices at small lattice spacings (20^4 at beta = 2.5 and 32^4 at beta = 2.5115). We confirm that at these weak couplings there continues to be one monopole cluster that is very much longer than the rest and that the string tension, K, is entirely due to it. The remaining clusters are compact objects whose population as a function of radius follows a power law that deviates from the scale invariant form, but much too weakly to suggest a link with the analytically calculable si…
New results from lattice are presented, which demonstrate that monopoles condense in the vacuum of confined phase of QCD, which is thus a dual superconductor. Monopoles defined by different abelian projections appear to be physically equivalent.
We report on calculations of the heavy quark potential in SU(3) lattice gauge theory. Full SU(3) results are compared to three cases which involve gauge-fixing and projection. All of these start from the maximal abelian gauge (MAG), in its simplest form. The first case is abelian projection to U(1)xU(1). The second keeps only the abelian fields of monopoles in the MAG. The third involves an additional gauge-fixing to the indirect maximal center gauge (IMCG), followed by center projection to Z(3). At one gauge fixing/configuration, the string tensions calculated from MAG U(1)xU(1), MAG monopole…
We consider "double-winding" Wilson loops in SU(2) gauge theory. These are contours which wind once around a loop $C_1$ and once around a loop $C_2$, where the two co-planar loops share one point in common, and where $C_1$ lies entirely in (or is displaced slightly from) the minimal area of $C_2$. We discuss the expectation value of such double-winding loops in abelian confinement pictures, where the spatial distribution of confining abelian fields is controlled by either a monopole Coulomb gas, a caloron ensemble, or a dual abelian Higgs model, and argue that in such models an exponential fal…
We propose to use the different kinds of vacua of the gauge theories coupled to matter as a laboratory to test confinement ideas of pure Yang-Mills theories. In particular, the very poor overlap of the Wilson loop with the broken string states supports the 't Hooft and Mandelstam confinement criteria. However in the Z(2) gauge-Higgs model we use as a guide we find that the condensation of monopoles and center vortices is a necessary, but not sufficient condition for confinement.
Based on the dual Higgs picture for confinement, we study monopole properties in the maximally abelian (MA) gauge using the lattice QCD. The monopole carries a large fluctuation of the gluon field and provides a large abelian action in abelian projected QCD (AP-QCD). We find large cancellation between abelian part and off-diagonal part of the action density around the monopole, which ensures the appearance of monopoles. The monopole in the MA gauge can be regarded as the collective mode of the large gluon fluctuation concentrated into the abelian sector, and would be relevant degrees of freedo…
It is demonstrated that monopole condensation in the confined phase of SU(2) and SU(3) gauge theories is independent of the specific Abelian projection used to define the monopoles. Hence the dual excitations which condense in the vacuum to produce confinement must have magnetic U(1) charge in all the Abelian projections. Some physical implications of this result are discussed.
We investigate the relationship between colour confinement and the monopoles derived from the Cho-Duan-Ge decomposition. These monopoles, unlike Dirac and 't Hooft monopoles, do not require a singular gauge field and are defined for any choice of gauge (and are not just restricted to, for example, the maximum Abelian gauge). The Abelian decomposition is defined in terms of a colour field $n$; the principle novelty of our study is that we have used a unique definition of this field in terms of the eigenvectors of the Wilson Loop. This allows us to investigate the relationship between the gauge …
The properties of the thermal Abelian color-magnetic monopoles in the maximally Abelian gauge are studied in the vicinity of the confinement-deconfinement phase transition in the lattice $SU(3)$ gluodynamics and lattice QCD. We compute the density and interaction parameters of the thermal monopoles. We find that the density of the thermal monopoles $ρ(T)$ jumps up near the transition temperature $T_c$. Additionally we present new results on the percolation transition in $SU(3)$ gluodynamics which is known to coincide in gluodynamics with the confinement-deconfinement phase transition.
Based on the dual-superconductor picture, we study the confinement physics in QCD in terms of the monopole in the maximally abelian (MA) gauge using the SU(2) lattice QCD. In the MA gauge, the off-diagonal gluon component is forced to be small, and hence microscopic abelian dominance on the link variable is observed in the lattice QCD for the whole region of $β$. From the gluon-propagator analysis in the lattice QCD, the origin of abelian dominance for the long-range physics is interpreted as the effective mass $m_{ch} \simeq 0.9 {\rm GeV}$ of the charged gluon induced by the MA gauge fixing. …
We study the continuum limit of the abelian string tension and the density of abelian monopoles calculated after carefully fixing the maximal abelian gauge by employing the simulated annealing algorithm. We present the evidence that the abelian string tension converges to the nonabelian one in the continuum limit. For the monopole density we confirm earlier findings that the density of the properly defined infrared monopoles has correct scaling while the total density seems divergent in the continuum limit due to ultraviolate contributions. We also compare with results obtained with the usual …
We show that the monopole confinement mechanism in lattice gluodynamics may be a particular feature of the maximal abelian projection. We give an explicit example of the $SU(2) \rightarrow U(1)$ projection (the minimal abelian projection), in which the confinement is due to topological objects other than monopoles. We also discuss the string representation of the abelian projected $SU(2)$ gluodynamics.
A comparative study of Abelian and Monopole dominance in the Laplacian and Maximally Abelian projected gauges is carried out. Clear evidence for both types of dominance is obtained for the Laplacian projection. Surprisingly, the evidence is much more ambiguous in the Maximally Abelian gauge. This is attributed to possible ``long-distance imperfections'' in the maximally abelian gauge fixing.
We study the properties of configurations from which P-vortices on one hand or Abelian monopoles on the other hand have been removed. We confirm the loss of confinement in both cases and investigate in what respect the modified ensembles differ from the confining ones from the point of view of the complementary confinement scenario.
We extend the approach of Banks, Myerson, and Kogut for the calculation of the Wilson loop in lattice U(1) to the non-abelian SU(2) group. The original degrees of freedom of the theory are integrated out, new degrees of freedom are introduced in several steps. The centre group $Z_2$ enters automatically through the appearance of a field strength tensor $f_{μν}$, which takes on the values 0 or 1 only. It obeys a linear field equation with the loop current as source. This equation implies that $f_{μν}$ is non vanishing on a two-dimensional surface bounded by the loop, and possibly on closed surf…
We show that the non-Abelian magnetic monopole defined in a gauge-invariant way in SU(3) Yang-Mills theory gives a dominant contribution to confinement of the fundamental quark, in sharp contrast to the SU(2) case.
