The present status of ATLAS searches for Higgs bosons in extensions of the Standard Model (SM) is presented. This includes searches for the Higgs bosons of the Two-Higgs-Doublet Model (2HDM), the Minimal Supersymmetric Model (MSSM), the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Model (NMSSM) and models with an invisibly decaying Higgs boson. A review of the phenomenology of the Higgs sectors of these models is given together with the search strategy and the resulting experimental constraints.
The search for evidence of beyond Standard Model Higgs bosons is an integral part of the Higgs boson studies at the LHC. This article reviews recent beyond Standard Model Higgs boson searches using Run I LHC proton-proton collision data recorded by the ATLAS detector. In particular, searches for Higgs boson cascades, double Higgs boson production, scalar particles decaying to $γγ$ pairs, flavor changing neutral currents involving Higgs bosons, and Higgs bosons decaying to invisible particles are discussed. No significant deviations from the background expectations are found and corresponding c…
A concise review of precision measurements in the Higgs sector of the Standard Model (SM) of particle physics is given using ATLAS and CMS data. The results are based on LHC Run-2 data, taken between 2015 and 2018. Impressive progress has been made since the discovery of the Higgs boson in 2012 for measuring all major production and decay modes. Good agreement with the SM predictions was observed in all measurements.
Recently, we proposed to picture the Higgs condensate of the Standard Model as a quantum liquid analogous to the superfluid Helium II. In this scenario the Higgs condensate excitations resemble closely two Standard Model Higgs bosons. The lightest Higgs boson was already identified with the LHC narrow resonance at 125 GeV. Concerning the heavy Higgs boson, we found preliminary evidence in our previous phenomenological analysis in the so-called golden channel. In the present note we compared our proposal to the full Run 2 data set released recently by the ATLAS Collaboration. Even though we do …
Searches for Higgs bosons in different extensions of the Standard Model (SM) are presented. These include the Minimal Supersymmetric extension of the SM (MSSM), the next-to-MSSM (NMSSM), models with additional scalar singlets, doublets, or triplets, and generic searches for models with couplings modified with respect to the SM or for non-SM Higgs boson decay channels. Results are based on data collected by the ATLAS and CMS experiments in 2011 and 2012 at the LHC. No excess is found in any of the searches and thus the resulting exclusion limits are given.
Since the discovery of the Higgs boson in summer 2012, the understanding of its properties has been a high priority of the ATLAS physics program. Measurements of Higgs boson properties sensitive to its production processes, decay modes, kinematics, mass, and spin/CP properties based on $pp$ collision data recorded at 13 TeV are presented. The analyses of several production processes and decay channels will be described, including recent highlights as the direct observation of the couplings to top and beauty quarks, and an updated combination of all measurements.
We present two modules as part of the Czech Particle Physics Project (CPPP). These modules are intended as learning tools in masterclasses aimed at high-school students (aged 15 to 18). The first module is dedicated to the detection of an Axion-Like-Particle (ALP) using the ATLAS Forward Proton (AFP) detector. The second module focuses on the reconstruction of the Higgs boson mass using the Higgs boson golden channel with four leptons in the final state. The modules are accessible at http://cern.ch/cppp.

For a LHC center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV and integrated luminosity of 1 fb$^{-1}$, contributions from the important decay channels $\Hboson \rightarrow \Wboson\Wboson^{(*)} \rightarrow \ellν\ellν$, $\Hboson \rightarrow \Zboson\Zboson^{(*)} \rightarrow \ell\ell\ell\ell$ and $\Hboson \rightarrow γγ$ are considered, based on recent full Monte Carlo simulations at 14 and 10 TeV and the cross-section rescaling for the 7 TeV center-of-mass energy.…
We discuss the implications of the recent constraints on the Higgs sector of the Minimal Supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model obtained by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations at the lHC with $\sqrt s=7$ TeV and 36 pb$^{-1}$ of data. The main production and detection channel that is relevant in these analyses is the gluon--gluon and bottom quark fusion mechanisms leading to neutral Higgs bosons which subsequently decay into tau lepton pairs, $gg, b\bar b \to Higgs \to τ^+τ^-$. In this note, we show that: i) the exclusion limits are in fact more general than indicated by the ATLAS and CMS …

The ATLAS Higgs results are reviewed using Run-2 data taken at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV with up to an integrated luminosity of 80 fb$^{-1}$. So far, the data are consistent with the standard model expectations. ATLAS now has observed the Higgs Yukawa coupling to the third generation fermions with $H\rightarrow ττ$, ttH, and $H\rightarrow b b$ in the VH process. The Higgs boson will continue to provide an important probe for new physics and beyond.

The search for Higgs boson pair ($HH$) production is at the core of the ATLAS experimental program, as it probes the Brout-Englert-Higgs mechanism, as well as new physics beyond the Standard Model. Based on the proton-proton collision data recorded by the ATLAS experiment at CERN's Large Hadron Collider in 2015 and 2016, three public results on the search for $HH \to bbbb$, $HH \to bbγγ$ and $HH \to WWγγ$ were recently released and are summarised in these proceedings.
The ATLAS collaboration has reported excesses in diboson invariant mass searches of new resonances around 2 TeV, which might be a prediction of new physics around that mass range. We interpret these results in the context of a modified stealth doublet model where the extra Higgs doublet has a Yukawa interaction with the first generation quarks, and show that the heavy CP-even Higgs boson can naturally explain the excesses in the WW and ZZ channels with a small Yukawa coupling, ξ\sim 0.15, and a tiny mixing angle with the SM Higgs boson, α\sim 0.06. Furthermore, the model satisfy constraints fr…
As soon as a significant signal in one of the Higgs boson discovery channels is observed, it will be important to establish its nature. To do this, a precise measurements of its properties is important. In this article the prospects to measure the Higgs boson mass, width, spin and CP-quantum numbers, couplings to the known Standard Model particles and self-couplings by the ATLAS experiment are summarized.
Summary of first ATLAS results is given for the Standard Model Higgs boson in the mass range 110 < mH < 130 GeV, when produced in association with a W/Z boson and decaying to a pair of b-quarks. No evidence for the Higgs boson production is observed in a dataset of proton-proton collisions at a center of mass energy of 7 TeV and corresponding to 1.04 fb-1 of integrated luminosity, recorded by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC in 2011. Upper limits on Higgs boson production cross sections for the channels considered are presented.

Charged Higgs bosons are predicted in several extensions of the Standard Model, where the Higgs sector contains more than one doublet of complex scalars, for instance in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). For $m_{H^+} < m_{\mathrm{top}}$, the dominant production mode for charged Higgs bosons at the LHC is via the decay $t\rightarrow bH^+$ of one of the top quarks in $t\bar{t}$ events. We present results on the search for such light charged Higgs bosons in the ATLAS experiment, with emphasis on the decay $H^+ \rightarrow τν$.
Within the framework of Standard Model, the production mode of Higgs boson through the fusion of the vector bosons $W$ or $Z$ (Vector Boson Fusion) is one of the most important production mechanisms, providing a specific detection signature. A detailed study regarding this issue is being undergone for ATLAS detector in LHC and some general features of this analysis are being presented in this note emphasizing in the study of Central Jet Veto.
The results of Higgs boson searches in the context of the Minimal Supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (MSSM) in proton-proton collisions with the ATLAS detector based on collected data corresponding to up to 36 pb-1 are presented. Searches in the channels H+->cs, H+->taunu, and H->tautau are discussed. All observations agree with the expectation of the Standard Model (SM)-only hypothesis and thus exclusion limits are derived.
The searches for supersymmetric and beyond Standard Model Higgs boson with the ATLAS detector are presented. The results are based on integrated luminosity of 35 pb$^{-1}$ to 1.6 fb$^{-1}$ of proton-proton collision data recorded at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV at LHC. No signal is observed in any of the investigated channel and exclusion limits on production cross-sections are given as function of Higgs boson mass and of minimal supersymmetric model parameters.
Recent searches for Higgs bosons in the context of extensions to the Standard Model of Particle Physics with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider are discussed. No significant deviations from the background expectations are found and corresponding constraints on physics beyond the Standard Model are obtained.
Results for the Standard Model Higgs boson search by the ATLAS experiment in the WH -> lnubb and H -> WW(*) -> lnulnu channels are presented. The results are based on 1.04 fb^-1 of data from pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV produced by the LHC in 2011. No evidence is found for the Standard Model Higgs boson in either decay mode. The WH -> lnubb channel is not yet sensitive to the Standard Model Higgs, while the H -> WW(*) -> lnulnu channel excludes the Standard Model Higgs in the range of 158 < m_H < 186 GeV at the 95% confidence level.
Due to the high energy and luminosity of the LHC, the ATLAS experiment has a huge discovery potential for new physics. A Standard Model Higgs boson can be discovered over the full range of allowed masses, and its mass should be measured with a precision of about 0.1%. The Higgs sector of the MSSM should be fully explored by searches for supersymmetric Higgs bosons. Squarks and gluinos can be discovered up to masses of 2.5 TeV and several precision measurements can be performed in the SUSY sector. The existence of particles predicted by other theories beyond the Standard Model has been also inv…

The results include an improved measurement of the mass of the Higgs boson from a combined fit to the invariant mass spectra of the decay channels $H \rightarrow γγ$ and $H \rightarrow ZZ^* \rightarrow 4\ell$, which yields $m_H = 125.36 \pm 0.37$ (stat) $\pm 0.18$ (syst) GeV = …

The results are based on data samples corresponding to an integrated luminosity of up to 20.7 fb-1 at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV and 4.6 fb-1 at 7 TeV. The observation of a Higgs boson is established. The mass of the new boson is measured to be 125.5 +/- 0.2 (stat) +0.5-0.6 (syst) GeV, and the ratio of the observed number of events and expected from a Standard Model Higgs Boson is compatible with unity, mu = 1.30 +/- 0.13 (stat) +/- 0.14 (sys). The spin and parity properties as well…
The search for the Standard Model Higgs boson in the four lepton (electron and muon) final state with the ATLAS detector at the LHC is presented. The analysis strategy and the efficiency for selecting the signal and rejecting the background are discussed, focusing on the performance of the lepton identification that can be achieved with the first data of LHC expected in 2008.
A search for the Higgs boson has been performed in the H->WW->lvlv channel (l=e/mu) with an integrated luminosity of 2.05/fb of pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV collected with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. No significant excess of events over the expected background is observed and limits on the Higgs boson production cross section are derived for a Higgs boson mass in the range 110<mH<300 GeV. The observations exclude the presence of a Standard Model Higgs boson with a mass 145<mH<206 GeV at 95% confidence level.
The search for the production of the Higgs boson associated with a pair of top quarks in the ATLAS experiment is presented. It focuses on Higgs bosons decaying to $b\bar{b}$ and events containing two leptons (electrons and/or muons). It uses 20.3 fb$^{-1}$ of $pp$ collision data at $\sqrt{s}$ = 8 TeV collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC in 2012. No significant excess of events is found and the 95% CL observed (expected) limit is 7.0xSM (4.3xSM). After combining with the single lepton final state an observed (expected) limit of 4.1xSM (2.6xSM) with a best fit of $μ=1.7\pm1.4$ is obtaine…
After many years of searches, the Higgs boson was observed by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations in July 2012. Since then, its properties have been measured using primarily the bosonic decay channels: $H \to γγ$, $H \to Z Z$, $H \to W^+ W^-$. In order to probe the predictions of the Standard Model and the nature of the Higgs boson, it is also fundamental to measure its couplings to fermions and, in particular, to quarks. In this paper we present the ATLAS results in the search for the Higgs boson decaying to b-quark pairs using two different production channels: associated production with a vect…
In this article the potential of the ATLAS experiment to discover MSSM Higgs bosons is discussed. Various Monte-Carlo studies for SM Higgs boson production and dedicated MSSM Higgs boson analyses are taken into account to investigate the discovery potential in four different CP-conserving MSSM benchmark scenarios, the Mh-max scenario, the no mixing scenario, the gluophobic scenario and the small alpha scenario. The most recent theoretical calculations are used for the prediction of Higgs masses and couplings. The results are shown for integrated luminosities of 30 and 300 inverse fb. With 300 …
Recent measurements of Higgs boson cross-section and properties are presented using up to $139~\text{fb}^{-1}$ of proton-proton collision data delivered by the Large Hadron Collider at $\sqrt{s}~=~13~\text{TeV}$ and recorded by the ATLAS and CMS detectors. Three measurements are discussed. The first is the measurement of Higgs boson production with sizeable transverse momentum decaying to a $b\bar{b}$ pair. The remaining two measurements exploit the $H \rightarrow WW^*$ decay channel in various production modes: gluon fusion, vector boson fusion, and production in association with a $W$ or $Z$…
ATLAS has developed a new approach for vertex selection in VBF invisible events at HL-LHC conditions, exploiting its new forward tracking capabilities, integrating calorimeter and tracking information to mitigate the impact of pileup vertex merging, and introducing a new way to apply pile-up jet suppression methods for the selection of VBF jets. The new algorithm is insensitive to pileup density and improves the average vertex selection efficiency from 86% to 95% under tight VBF event selection cuts.
The Minimal Supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (MSSM) predicts the existence of three neutral and two charged Higgs bosons. Searches for these MSSM Higgs bosons are presented, based on proton-proton collisions recorded in 2011 and 2012 by the ATLAS and CMS experiments at the LHC. The neutral Higgs bosons are searched through their decays into pairs of oppositely charged tau leptons. The exclusion limits at 95% confidence level are shown as a function of the $m_A$ and $\tanβ$ parameters. The search for the charged Higgs bosons is based on their production through the decays of top q…
A search for the Standard Model Higgs boson has been performed in the H \rightarrow WW \rightarrow lνjj channel in 1.04 fb-1 of pp collisions at \surds = 7 TeV collected with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. No significant excess of events is observed over the expected background and limits on the Higgs boson production cross section are derived for a Higgs boson mass in the range 240 GeV < mH < 600 GeV. The best sensitivity is reached for mH = 400 GeV, where the 95% confidence level upper bound on the cross-section for Higgs boson production times the branching ratio for H \ri…

Searches in the diphoton, multilepton and $b\bar{b}$ decay channels are summarised. The combination of these searches yields a measured (expected) significance for the observation of the ${t\bar{t}H}$ production process of $2.8 σ$ ($1.8 σ$).
The status of Higgs boson measurements in the $WW^{\ast}$, $ττ$, and $μμ$ decay modes with the ATLAS experiment is presented. These measurements are done using $pp$ collision data from the Large Hadron Collider with either the full Run 1 dataset at $\sqrt{s}= 7\,\mathrm{TeV}$ and $\sqrt{s}= 8\,\mathrm{TeV}$ or with a partial Run 2 dataset at $\sqrt{s}= 13\,\mathrm{TeV}$ of either $5.81\,\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ or $36.1\,\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$. The different couplings to the Higgs boson are probed by measuring the production cross sections and extracting the signal strengths. Depending on the analysis, th…
This proceeding presents the latest studies on the Yukawa couplings of the Standard Model Higgs boson with 139 fb$^{-1}$ data collected using the ATLAS detector at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV.
