We introduce gvnn, a neural network library in Torch aimed towards bridging the gap between classic geometric computer vision and deep learning. Inspired by the recent success of Spatial Transformer Networks, we propose several new layers which are often used as parametric transformations on the data in geometric computer vision. These layers can be inserted within a neural network much in the spirit of the original spatial transformers and allow backpropagation to enable end-to-end learning of a network involving any domain knowledge in geometric computer vision. This opens up applications in…
Despite significant progress of deep learning in the field of computer vision, there has not been a software library that covers these methods in a unifying manner. We introduce ChainerCV, a software library that is intended to fill this gap. ChainerCV supports numerous neural network models as well as software components needed to conduct research in computer vision. These implementations emphasize simplicity, flexibility and good software engineering practices. The library is designed to perform on par with the results reported in published papers and its tools can be used as a baseline for …

We present volkit, an open source library with high performance implementations of image manipulation and computer vision algorithms that focus on 3D volumetric representations. Volkit implements a cross-platform, performance-portable API targeting both CPUs and GPUs that defers data and resource movement and hides them from the application developer using a managed API. We use volkit to process medical and simulation data that is rendered in VR and consequently integrated the library into the C++ virtual reality software CalVR. The paper presents case studies and performance results and by th…
Solving complex computer vision tasks by deep learning techniques relies on large amounts of (supervised) image data, typically unavailable in industrial environments. The lack of training data starts to impede the successful transfer of state-of-the-art methods in computer vision to industrial applications. We introduce BlendTorch, an adaptive Domain Randomization (DR) library, to help creating infinite streams of synthetic training data. BlendTorch generates data by massively randomizing low-fidelity simulations and takes care of distributing artificial training data for model learning in re…

This work presents Kornia -- an open source computer vision library which consists of a set of differentiable routines and modules to solve generic computer vision problems. The package uses PyTorch as its main backend both for efficiency and to take advantage of the reverse-mode auto-differentiation to define and compute the gradient of complex functions. Inspired by OpenCV, Kornia is composed of a set of modules containing operators that can be inserted inside neural networks to train models to perform image transformations, camera calibration, epipolar geometry, and low level image processi…

We present MapReader, a free, open-source software library written in Python for analyzing large map collections (scanned or born-digital). This library transforms the way historians can use maps by turning extensive, homogeneous map sets into searchable primary sources. MapReader allows users with little or no computer vision expertise to i) retrieve maps via web-servers; ii) preprocess and divide them into patches; iii) annotate patches; iv) train, fine-tune, and evaluate deep neural network models; and v) create structured data about map content. We demonstrate how MapReader enables histori…
Mahotas is a computer vision library for Python. It contains traditional image processing functionality such as filtering and morphological operations as well as more modern computer vision functions for feature computation, including interest point detection and local descriptors. The interface is in Python, a dynamic programming language, which is very appropriate for fast development, but the algorithms are implemented in C++ and are tuned for speed. The library is designed to fit in with the scientific software ecosystem in this language and can leverage the existing infrastructure develop…

Touchless computer interaction has become an important consideration during the COVID-19 pandemic period. Despite progress in machine learning and computer vision that allows for advanced gesture recognition, an integrated collection of such open-source methods and a user-customisable approach to utilising them in a low-cost solution for touchless interaction in existing software is still missing. In this paper, we introduce the MotionInput v2.0 application. This application utilises published open-source libraries and additional gesture definitions developed to take the video stream from a st…

Object tracking is one of the most important and fundamental disciplines of Computer Vision. Many Computer Vision applications require specific object tracking capabilities, including autonomous and smart vehicles, video surveillance, medical treatments, and many others. The OpenCV as one of the most popular libraries for Computer Vision includes several hundred Computer Vision algorithms. Object tracking tasks in the library can be roughly clustered in single and multiple object trackers. The library is widely used for real-time applications, but there are a lot of unanswered questions such a…

Federated Learning (FL) is a distributed learning paradigm that can learn a global or personalized model from decentralized datasets on edge devices. However, in the computer vision domain, model performance in FL is far behind centralized training due to the lack of exploration in diverse tasks with a unified FL framework. FL has rarely been demonstrated effectively in advanced computer vision tasks such as object detection and image segmentation. To bridge the gap and facilitate the development of FL for computer vision tasks, in this work, we propose a federated learning library and benchma…
We introduce 3DB: an extendable, unified framework for testing and debugging vision models using photorealistic simulation. We demonstrate, through a wide range of use cases, that 3DB allows users to discover vulnerabilities in computer vision systems and gain insights into how models make decisions. 3DB captures and generalizes many robustness analyses from prior work, and enables one to study their interplay. Finally, we find that the insights generated by the system transfer to the physical world. We are releasing 3DB as a library (https://github.com/3db/3db) alongside a set of example anal…
In medical imaging, there is a growing interest to provide real-time images with good quality for large anatomical structures. To cope with this issue, we developed a library that allows to replace, for some specific clinical applications, more robust systems such as Computer Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). Our python library Py3DFreeHandUS is a package for processing data acquired simultaneously by ultra-sonographic systems (US) and marker-based optoelectronic systems. In particular, US data enables to visualize subcutaneous body structures, whereas the optoelectronic sy…
fastai is a deep learning library which provides practitioners with high-level components that can quickly and easily provide state-of-the-art results in standard deep learning domains, and provides researchers with low-level components that can be mixed and matched to build new approaches. It aims to do both things without substantial compromises in ease of use, flexibility, or performance. This is possible thanks to a carefully layered architecture, which expresses common underlying patterns of many deep learning and data processing techniques in terms of decoupled abstractions. These abstra…
