Different from most state-of-the-art~(SOTA) algorithms that use static and uniform sampling methods with a lot of hypothesis planes to get fine depth sampling. In this paper, we propose a free-moving hypothesis plane method for dynamic and non-uniform sampling in a wide depth range to build the cost volume, which not only greatly reduces the number of planes but also finers sampling, for both of reducing computational cost and improving accuracy, named Non-Uniform Cost Volume. We present the SuperMVS network to implement Multi-View Stereo with Non-Uniform Cost Volume. SuperMVS is a coarse-to-fine framework with four cascade stages. It can output higher resolution and accurate depth map. Our SuperMVS achieves the SOTA results with low memory, low runtime, and fewer planes on the DTU datasets and Tanks \& Temples dataset.
Pseudo-LiDAR based 3D object detectors have gained popularity due to their high accuracy. However, these methods need dense depth supervision and suffer from inferior speed. To solve these two issues, a recently introduced RTS3D builds an efficient 4D Feature-Consistency Embedding (FCE) space for the intermediate representation of object without depth supervision. FCE space splits the entire object region into 3D uniform grid latent space for feature sampling point generation, which ignores the importance of different object regions. However, we argue that, compared with the inner region, the …
In this paper, we propose an approach for view-time interpolation of stereo videos. Specifically, we build upon X-Fields that approximates an interpolatable mapping between the input coordinates and 2D RGB images using a convolutional decoder. Our main contribution is to analyze and identify the sources of the problems with using X-Fields in our application and propose novel techniques to overcome these challenges. Specifically, we observe that X-Fields struggles to implicitly interpolate the disparities for large baseline cameras. Therefore, we propose multi-plane disparities to reduce the sp…

Nighttime stereo depth estimation is still challenging, as assumptions associated with daytime lighting conditions do not hold any longer. Nighttime is not only about low-light and dense noise, but also about glow/glare, flares, non-uniform distribution of light, etc. One of the possible solutions is to train a network on night stereo images in a fully supervised manner. However, to obtain proper disparity ground-truths that are dense, independent from glare/glow, and have sufficiently far depth ranges is extremely intractable. To address the problem, we introduce a network joining day/night t…

Multispectral photometric stereo(MPS) aims at recovering the surface normal of a scene from a single-shot multispectral image captured under multispectral illuminations. Existing MPS methods adopt the Lambertian reflectance model to make the problem tractable, but it greatly limits their application to real-world surfaces. In this paper, we propose a deep neural network named NeuralMPS to solve the MPS problem under general non-Lambertian spectral reflectances. Specifically, we present a spectral reflectance decomposition(SRD) model to disentangle the spectral reflectance into geometric compon…

Stereo depth estimation is of great interest for computer vision research. However, existing methods struggles to generalize and predict reliably in hazardous regions, such as large uniform regions. To overcome these limitations, we propose Context Enhanced Path (CEP). CEP improves the generalization and robustness against common failure cases in existing solutions by capturing the long-range global information. We construct our stereo depth estimation model, Context Enhanced Stereo Transformer (CSTR), by plugging CEP into the state-of-the-art stereo depth estimation method Stereo Transformer.…

Deep learning methods are actively used for brain lesion segmentation. One of the most popular models is DeepMedic, which was developed for segmentation of relatively large lesions like glioma and ischemic stroke. In our work, we consider segmentation of brain tumors appropriate to stereotactic radiosurgery which limits typical lesion sizes. These differences in target volumes lead to a large number of false negatives (especially for small lesions) as well as to an increased number of false positives for DeepMedic. We propose a new patch-sampling procedure to increase network performance for s…

Being a crucial task of autonomous driving, Stereo matching has made great progress in recent years. Existing stereo matching methods estimate disparity instead of depth. They treat the disparity errors as the evaluation metric of the depth estimation errors, since the depth can be calculated from the disparity according to the triangulation principle. However, we find that the error of the depth depends not only on the error of the disparity but also on the depth range of the points. Therefore, even if the disparity error is low, the depth error is still large, especially for the distant poin…

Estimating depth from RGB images is a long-standing ill-posed problem, which has been explored for decades by the computer vision, graphics, and machine learning communities. Among the existing techniques, stereo matching remains one of the most widely used in the literature due to its strong connection to the human binocular system. Traditionally, stereo-based depth estimation has been addressed through matching hand-crafted features across multiple images. Despite the extensive amount of research, these traditional techniques still suffer in the presence of highly textured areas, large unifo…

We propose a cost volume-based neural network for depth inference from multi-view images. We demonstrate that building a cost volume pyramid in a coarse-to-fine manner instead of constructing a cost volume at a fixed resolution leads to a compact, lightweight network and allows us inferring high resolution depth maps to achieve better reconstruction results. To this end, we first build a cost volume based on uniform sampling of fronto-parallel planes across the entire depth range at the coarsest resolution of an image. Then, given current depth estimate, we construct new cost volumes iterative…
Depth estimation is solved as a regression or classification problem in existing learning-based multi-view stereo methods. Although these two representations have recently demonstrated their excellent performance, they still have apparent shortcomings, e.g., regression methods tend to overfit due to the indirect learning cost volume, and classification methods cannot directly infer the exact depth due to its discrete prediction. In this paper, we propose a novel representation, termed Unification, to unify the advantages of regression and classification. It can directly constrain the cost volu…
