This paper studies generalized Ellis-Bronikov (E-B) traversable wormholes in $f(R)$ extended gravity. We assume that these wormholes are supported by anisotropic dark matter (DM) according to the most often used phenomenological models, namely those of Navarro-Frenk-White (NFW), Thomas-Fermi (T-F), and Pseudo-isothermal (PI). Initially, we obtain the field equations in a general scenario of $f(R)$ theories in the metric formalism for the static and spherically symmetric Morris-Thorne spacetime. Then we particularize to a $f(R)$ model with power-law, including the Starobinky modified gravity. Following, we analyze the energy conditions which are not dependent on the DM models (Null and Weak Energy Conditions -- NEC and WEC) and those which are model-dependent (Strong and Dominant Energy Conditions SEC and DEC). Finally, we compare some E-B wormhole solutions and the mentioned DM models, discussing the feasibility of the wormhole-dark matter system in different scenarios.
Using thin shell formalism we construct two solutions of intra-universe wormholes. The first model is a cosmological analog of the Aichelburg-Schein timehole, while another one is an intra-universe form of the Bronnikov-Ellis solution.
We present a novel, exact, traversable wormhole (T-WH) solution for $(3+1)$-dimensional Einstein-scalar-Gauss-Bonnet theory (EsGB) coupled to a power-Maxwell nonlinear electrodynamics (NLED). The solution is characterized by two parameters, $\mathcal{Q}\!_{\rm e}$ and $\mathcal{Q}\!_{_{ \mathcal{S} }}$, associated respectively with the electromagnetic field and the scalar field. We show that for $\mathcal{Q}^2_{\rm e} - \mathcal{Q}\!_{_{ \mathcal{S} }}>0$ the solution can be interpreted as a traversable wormhole. In the general case, with non-vanishing electromagnetic field, the scalar-Gauss-B…
We construct traversable wormholes with anti-de Sitter asymptotics supported by a phantom field. These wormholes are massless and symmetric with respect to reflection of the radial coordinate $η\to - η$. Their circumferential radius decreases monotonically from radial infinity to their single throat. Analogous to their asymptotically flat counterparts, these anti-de Sitter wormholes possess an unstable radial mode.
Wormhole solutions to the equations of general relativity have some spectacular local and global properties. As these unusual features are not explicitly forbidden by known physics, wormholes are considered in various astrophysical and cosmological scenarios. The paradigmatic traversable wormhole models are described by static spherically-symmetric Ellis--Morris--Thorne and Simpson--Visser metrics. We show that no dynamical solution of the semiclassical Einstein equations can have these metrics as their static limit. On the other hand, possible static limits of the dynamical solutions are not …

Gravitational lensing is a good probe into the topological structure of dark gravitating celestial objects. In this paper, we investigate the light curve of a light ray that passes through the throat of an Ellis wormhole, the simplest example of traversable wormholes. The method developed here is also applicable to other traversable wormholes. To study whether the light curve of a light ray that passes through a wormhole throat is distinguishable from that which does not, we also calculate light curves without the passage of a throat for an Ellis wormhole, a Schwarzschild black hole, and an ul…
The present paper reports interesting new features that wormhole solutions in the scalar field gravity theory have. To demonstrate these, we obtain, by using a slightly modified form of the Matos-Nunez algorithm, an extended class of asymptotically flat wormhole solutions belonging to Einstein minimally coupled scalar field theory. Generally, solutions in these theories do not represent traversable wormholes due to the occurrence of curvature singularities. However, the Ellis I solution of the Einstein minimally coupled theory, when Wick rotated, yields Ellis class III solution, the latter rep…
We study the scattering of low-energy massless and massive minimally coupled scalar fields by an asymptotically flat traversable wormhole. We provide a comprehensive treatment of this problem offering analytic expressions for the transmission and reflection amplitudes of the corresponding effective potential and the absorption cross section of the wormhole. Our results, which are based on a recently developed dynamical formulation of time-independent scattering theory, apply to a large class of wormhole spacetimes including a wormhole with a sharp transition, the Ellis wormhole, and a family o…
Wormholes with Ellis geometry have been successfully constructed using tachyon matter \cite{Das}. However, for such a wormhole, it is obtained that the redshift function is necessarily a constant, and also the wormhole is plagued with an imaginary tachyon potential and a constant field if the solutions are obtained in the absence of a cosmological constant term. So, a physically plausible wormhole solution is possible only in the presence of a $Λ$ term. In this paper, we try to construct a wormhole from tachyon matter with three $other$ geometries \textit{different} from the Ellis geometry and…

It is well known that the sum of signed magnifications is invariant for mass lens systems. In this paper, we discuss the signed magnification sums of general spherical lens models including the singular isothermal sphere, the Schwarzschild lens and the Ellis wormhole, the last of which is an example of the traversable wormholes of the Morris-Thorne class. We show that the signed magnication sums are a very useful tool to distinguish exotic lens objects. For example, we show that one can distinguish the Ellis wormholes from the Schwarzschild lens with the signed magnification sums.
The static and spherically symmetric solutions in $n(\ge 4)$-dimensional Einstein-phantom-scalar system fall into three family: (i) the Fisher solution, (ii) the Ellis-Gibbons solution, and (iii) the Ellis-Bronnikov solution. We exploit these solutions as seed to generate a bunch of corresponding asymptotically (A)dS spacetimes, at the price of introducing the potential of the scalar field. Despite that the potentials are different for each solution, each potential is expressed in terms of the superpotential as in supergravity. We discuss the global structure of these solutions in detail and s…
In this paper we have examined the validity of some proposed definitions of gravitational entropy (GE) in the context of traversable wormhole solutions of the Einstein field equations. Here we have adopted two different proposals of GE and checked for their applicability in the case of these wormholes. The first one is the phenomenological approach proposed by Rudjord et al \cite{entropy1} and expanded by Romero et al in \cite{entropy2}, which is a purely geometric method of measuring gravitational entropy. The latter one is the Clifton-Ellis-Tavakol (CET) proposal \cite{CET} for the gravitati…
We derive the simplest traversable wormhole solutions in $n$-dimensional general relativity, assuming static and spherically symmetric spacetime with a ghost scalar field. This is the generalization of the Ellis solution (or the so-called Morris-Thorne's traversable wormhole) into a higher-dimension. We also study their stability using linear perturbation analysis. We obtain the master equation for the perturbed gauge-invariant variable and search their eigenvalues. Our analysis shows that all higher-dimensional wormholes have an unstable mode against the perturbations with which the throat ra…

We examine a gravitational lens model inspired by modified gravity theories and exotic matter and energy. We study an asymptotically flat, static, and spherically symmetric spacetime that is modified in such a way that the spacetime metric depends on the inverse distance to the power of positive $n$ in the weak-field approximation. It is shown analytically and numerically that there is a lower limit on the source angular displacement from the lens object to get demagnification. Demagnifying gravitational lenses could appear, provided the source position $β$ and the power $n$ satisfy $β> 2/(n+1…
For the last decade, the gravitational lensing in the strong gravitational field has been studied eagerly. It is well known that, for the lensing by a black hole, infinite number of Einstein rings are formed by the light rays which wind around the black hole nearly on the photon sphere, which are called relativistic Einstein rings. This is also the case for the lensing by a wormhole. In this paper, we study the Einstein ring and relativistic Einstein rings for the Schwarzschild black hole and the Ellis wormhole, the latter of which is an example of traversable wormholes of the Morris-Thorne cl…
