The triplet or type-II seesaw mechanism is the simplest way to endow neutrinos with mass in the Standard Model (SM). Here we review its associated theory and phenomenology, including restrictions from $S$, $T$, $U$ parameters, neutrino experiments, charged lepton flavour violations as well as collider searches. We also examine restrictions coming from requiring consistency of electroweak symmetry breaking, i.e. perturbative unitarity and stability of the vacuum. Finally, we discuss novel effects associated to the scalar mediator of neutrino mass generation namely, (i) rare processes, e.g. $l_α\to l_βγ$ decays, at the intensity frontier, and also (ii) four-lepton signatures in colliders at the high-energy frontier. These can be used to probe neutrino properties in an important way, providing a test of the absolute neutrino mass and mass-ordering, as well as of the atmospheric octant. They may also provide the first evidence for charged lepton flavour violation in nature. In contrast, neutrino non-standard interaction strengths are found to lie below current detectability.
By combining the simplest (3,1) version of the seesaw mechanism containing a single heavy "right-handed" neutrino with the minimal scotogenic approach to dark matter, we propose a theory for neutrino oscillations. The "atmospheric" mass scale arises at tree level from the seesaw, while the "solar" oscillation scale emerges radiatively, through a loop involving the "dark sector" exchange. Such simple setup gives a clear interpretation of the neutrino oscillation lengths, has a viable WIMP dark matter candidate, and implies a lower bound on the neutrinoless double beta decay rate.
We demonstrate a dynamical origin for the dimension-five seesaw operator in dimensional deconstruction models. Light neutrino masses arise from the seesaw scale which corresponds to the inverse lattice spacing. It is shown that the deconstructing limit naturally prefers maximal leptonic mixing. Higher-order corrections which are allowed by gauge invariance can transform the bi-maximal into a bi-large mixing. These terms may appear to be non-renormalizable at scales smaller than the deconstruction scale.
We examine the simplest realization of the linear seesaw mechanism within the Standard Model gauge structure. Besides the standard scalar doublet, there are two lepton-number-carrying scalars, a nearly inert SU2 doublet and a singlet. Neutrino masses result from the spontaneous violation of lepton number, implying the existence of a Nambu-Goldstone boson. Such "majoron" would be copiously produced in stars, leading to stringent astrophysical constraints. We study the profile of the Higgs bosons in this model, including their effective couplings to the vector bosons and their invisible decay br…
We analyze the consistency of electroweak breaking, neutrino and dark matter phenomenology within the simplest scoto-seesaw model. By adding the minimal dark sector to the simplest "missing partner" type-I seesaw one has a physical picture for the neutrino oscillation lengths: the "atmospheric" mass scale arises from the tree-level seesaw, while the "solar" scale is induced radiatively, mediated by the dark sector. We identify parameter regions consistent with theoretical constraints, as well as dark matter relic abundance and direct detection searches. Using two-loop renormalization group equ…
The simplest linear seesaw mechanism can accommodate the new CDF-II $W$ mass measurement. In addition to Standard Model particles, the model includes quasi-Dirac leptons, and a second, leptophilic, scalar doublet seeding small neutrino masses. Our proposal is consistent with electroweak precision tests, neutrino physics, rare decays and collider restrictions, requiring a new charged scalar below a few TeV, split in mass from the new degenerate scalar and pseudoscalar neutral Higgs bosons.
We analyze the consistency of electroweak breaking within the simplest high-scale Standard Model type-I seesaw mechanism. We derive the full two-loop RGEs of the relevant parameters, including the quartic Higgs self-coupling of the Standard Model. For the simplest case of bare "right-handed" neutrino mass terms we find that, with large Yukawa couplings, the Higgs quartic self-coupling becomes negative much below the seesaw scale, so that the model may be inconsistent even as an effective theory. We show, however, that the "dynamical" type-I high-scale seesaw with spontaneous lepton number viol…
The simplest possibility to generate small Majorana neutrino masses is the seesaw mechanism. However, the smallness of the observed neutrino masses can also be understood, if neutrino masses are generated by higher-dimensional operators and/or at higher loop level. In this talk recent work on systematic classifications of higher-dimensional and radiative neutrino mass models is summarized. Two particular classes of special genuine loop diagrams, i.e. diagrams which can lead to genuine neutrino mass models only under some specific, well-defined conditions, are also discussed.
In the simplest left-right extension of the Standard Model of particle interactions with one scalar bidoublet and one $SU(2)_R$ triplet for seesaw Majorana neutrino masses, the addition of a variety of fermion and scalar multiplets automatically makes them stable (predestined) dark matter candidates. We discuss the interplay of this dark ensemble in relic abundance and direct searches.
Adding a scalar triplet to the Standard Model is one of the simplest ways of giving mass to neutrinos, providing at the same time a mechanism to stabilize the theory's vacuum. In this paper, we revisit these aspects of the type-II seesaw model pointing out that the bounded-from-below conditions for the scalar potential in use in the literature are not correct. We discuss some scenarios where the correction can be significant and sketch the typical scalar boson profile expected by consistency.
We recapitulate the latest results on the class of the simplest SO(10) grand unified models in which the GUT-scale symmetry breaking is triggered by an adjoint Higgs representation. We argue that the minimal survival approximation traditionally used in the GUT- and seesaw-scale estimates tends to be blind to very interesting parts of the parameter space in which some of the intermediate-scale states necessary for non-supersymmetric unification of the SM gauge couplings can be as light as to leave their imprints in the TeV domain. The stringent minimal-survival-based estimates of the B-L scale …
The recent recomputation of the neutrino fluxes from nuclear reactors relaxes the tension between the LSND and MiniBooNE anomalies and disappearance data when interpreted in terms of sterile neutrino oscillations. The simplest extension of the Standard Model with such fermion singlets is the addition of right-handed sterile neutrinos with small Majorana masses. Even when introducing three right-handed neutrinos, this scenario has less free parameters than the 3+2 scenarios studied in the literature. This begs the question whether the best fit regions obtained can be reproduced by this simplest…

We suggest a new left-right symmetric model implementing a low-scale seesaw mechanism in which quantum consistency requires three families of fermions. The symmetry breaking route to the Standard Model determines the profile of the "next" expected new physics, characterized either by the simplest left-right gauge symmetry or by the 3-3-1 scenario. The resulting $Z^\prime$ gauge bosons can be probed at the LHC and provide a production portal for the right-handed neutrinos. On the other hand, its flavor changing interactions would affect the K, D and B neutral meson systems.
In minimal supergravity (mSugra), the neutrino sector is related to the slepton sector by means of the renormalization group equations. This opens a door to indirectly test the neutrino sector via measurements at the LHC. Concretely, for the simplest seesaw type-I, we present the correlations between seesaw parameters and ratio of stau lepton flavour violating (LFV) branching ratios. We find some simple, extreme scenarios for the unknown right-handed parameters, where ratios of LFV rates correlate with neutrino oscillation parameters. On the other hand, we scan the mSugra parameter space, for …
Discrete symmetries being preferred to explain the neutrino phenomenology, we chose the simplest $S_3$ group and explore the implication of its modular form on neutrino masses and mixing. Non-trivial transformations of Yukawa couplings under this symmetry, make the model phenomenologically interesting by reducing the requirement of multiple scalar fields. This symmetry imposes a specific flavor structure to the neutrino mass matrix within the framework of less frequented type III seesaw mechanism and helps to explore the neutrino mixing consistent with the current observation. Apart, we also e…
The simplest type III seesaw model as originally proposed introduces one lepton triplet. It thus contains four active neutrinos, two massive and two massless at tree level. We determine the radiative masses that the latter receive first at two loops. The masses are generally so tiny that they are definitely excluded by the oscillation data, if the heavy leptons are not very heavy, say, within the reach of LHC. To accommodate the data on masses, the seesaw scale must be as large as the scale of grand unification. This indicates that the most economical type III model would entail no new physics…
In this paper, a followup of arXiv: 1802.05722, we describe the many pathways to generate Dirac neutrino mass through dimension-6 operators. By using only the Standard Model Higgs doublet in the external legs one gets a unique operator $\frac{1}{Λ^2} \, \bar{L}\, \barΦ \, \barΦ \, Φ\, ν_R $. In contrast, the presence of new scalars implies new possible field contractions, which greatly increase the number of possibilities. Here we study in detail the simplest ones, involving $SU(2)_L$ singlets, doublets and triplets. The extra symmetries needed to ensure the Dirac nature of neutrinos can also …
The Standard Model(SM) vacuum is unstable for the measured values of the top Yukawa coupling and Higgs mass. Here we study the issue of vacuum stability when neutrino masses are generated through spontaneous low-scale lepton number violation. In the simplest dynamical inverse seesaw, the SM Higgs has two siblings: a massive CP-even scalar plus a massless Nambu-Goldstone boson, called majoron. For TeV scale breaking of lepton number, Higgs bosons can have a sizeable decay into the invisible majorons. We examine the interplay and complementarity of vacuum stability and perturbativity restriction…
The most general supersymmetric seesaw mechanism has too many parameters to be predictive and thus can not be excluded by any measurements of lepton flavour violating (LFV) processes. We focus on the simplest version of the type-I seesaw mechanism assuming minimal supergravity (mSugra) boundary conditions. We compute branching ratios for the LFV scalar tau decays, ${\tilde τ}_2 \to (e,μ) + χ^0_1$, as well as loop-induced LFV decays at low energy, such as $l_i \to l_j + γ$ and $l_i \to 3 l_j$, exploring their sensitivity to the unknown seesaw parameters. We find some simple, extreme scenarios f…
Introducing n right-handed neutrinos to the Standard Model yields, in general, massive active neutrinos. We give explicit parametrizations for the involved mixing and coupling matrices in terms of physical parameters for both the top-down and the bottom-up approach for arbitrary n. Bounds on the complex mixing angles in the bottom-up approach from perturbativity of the Yukawa couplings to charged lepton flavor violation are discussed. As a novel illustration of possible effects from n != 3, we extend the neutrino anarchy framework to arbitrary n; we show that while the anarchic mixing angles a…
Successful leptogenesis within the simplest type I supersymmetric seesaw mechanism requires the lightest of the three right-handed neutrino supermultiplets to be heavier than $\sim10^9$ GeV. Thermal production of such (s)neutrinos requires very high reheating temperatures which result in an overproduction of gravitinos with catastrophic consequences for the evolution of the universe. In this letter, we let R-parity be violated through a $λ_i \hat{N}_i \hat{H}_u \hat{H}_d$ term in the superpotential, where $\hat{N}_i$ are right-handed neutrino supermultiplets. We show that in the presence of th…

We reconsider the role that the possible detection of lepton flavour violating (LFV) decays of supersymmetric particles at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) can play in helping reconstruct the underlying neutrino mass generation mechanism within the simplest high-scale minimal supergravity (mSUGRA) seesaw schemes. We study in detail the LFV scalar tau decays at the LHC, assuming that the observed neutrino masses arise either through the pure type-I or the simpler type-II seesaw mechanism. We perform a scan over the mSUGRA parameter space in order to identify regions where lepton flavour violatin…
Neutrino mass generation through the Higgs mechanism not only suggests the need to reconsider the physics of electroweak symmetry breaking from a new perspective, but also provides a new theoretically consistent and experimentally viable paradigm. We illustrate this by describing the main features of the electroweak symmetry breaking sector of the simplest type-II seesaw model with spontaneous breaking of lepton number. After reviewing the relevant "theoretical" and astrophysical restrictions on the Higgs sector, we perform an analysis of the sensitivities of Higgs boson searches at the ongoin…
We show that the simplest supersymmetric scenario where a large Higgs mass can be attained at tree-level for any ratio of the Higgs vacuum expectation values corresponds to the case where the neutrino masses are generated through the type II seesaw mechanism. This allows a standard model-like Higgs with mass around 125 GeV without assuming a heavy spectrum for the stops. We show that our results are consistent with the bounds coming from perturbativity up to the grand unified scale, discuss gauge coupling unification and possible signals at the Large Hadron Collider.
The inverse seesaw mechanism allows the neutrino masses to be generated by new physics at an experimentally accessible scale, even with O(1) Yukawa couplings. In the inverse seesaw scenario, the smallness of neutrino masses is linked to the smallness of a lepton number violating parameter. This parameter may arise radiatively. In this paper, we study the cosmological implications of two contrasting radiative inverse seesaw models, one due to Ma and the other to Law and McDonald. The former features spontaneous, the latter explicit lepton number violation. First, we examine the effect of the le…
We discuss the simplest models for the generation of neutrinos masses at tree level and one-loop level. The realization of the different seesaw mechanisms in the context of renormalizable SU(5) and SO(10) theories is reviewed. A new mechanism for the generation of neutrino masses at one-loop level is presented. We discuss the first realization of the Type III seesaw mechanism in the context of a renormalizable SU(5) theory, called "Adjoint SU(5)".
The gauged $B - L$ symmetry is one of the simplest and well studied extension of standard model. In the conventional case, addition of three singlet right handed neutrinos each transforming as $-1$ under the $B - L$ symmetry renders it anomaly free. It is usually assumed that the $B - L$ symmetry is spontaneously broken by a singlet scalar having two units of $B - L$ charge, resulting in a natural implementation of Majorana seesaw mechanism for neutrinos. However, as we discuss in this proceeding, there is another simple anomaly free solution which leads to Dirac or inverse seesaw masses for n…
We present a simple scenario for gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking where the messengers are also the fields that generate neutrino masses. We show that the simplest such scenario corresponds to the case where neutrino masses are generated through the Type I and Type III seesaw mechanisms. The entire supersymmetric spectrum and Higgs masses are calculable from only four input parameters. Since the electroweak symmetry is broken through a doubly radiative mechanism, meaning a nearly zero B-term at the messenger scale which runs down to acceptable values, one obtains quite a constrained spect…
In the simplest type-I seesaw leptogenesis scenario right-handed neutrino annihilation processes are absent. However, in the presence of new interactions these processes are possible and can affect the resulting $B-L$ asymmetry in an important way. A prominent example is provided by models with spontaneous lepton number violation, where the existence of new dynamical degrees of freedom can play a crucial role. In this context, we provide a model-independent discussion of the effects of right-handed neutrino annihilations. We show that in the weak washout regime, as long as the scattering proce…
Extensions of the Standard Model are required to give mass to the light neutrinos and explain neutrino oscillations. One of the simplest ideas is to introduce new heavy, gauge singlet fermions that play the role of right-handed neutrinos in a seesaw mechanism. They could have large Yukawa couplings to the Higgs boson, affecting the production of the Higgs bosons in association with a pair of W bosons at future lepton colliders. Working in the inverse seesaw model and taking into account all possible experimental constraints, we find that sizable deviations, as large as 66\% are possible. This …
We present a comprehensive analysis of neutrino mass and lepton mixing in theories with $A_4$ modular symmetry, where the only flavon field is the single modulus field $τ$, and all masses and Yukawa couplings are modular forms. Similar to previous analyses, we discuss all the simplest neutrino sectors arising from both the Weinberg operator and the type I seesaw mechanism, with lepton doublets and right-handed neutrinos assumed to be triplets of $A_4$. Unlike previous analyses, we allow right-handed charged leptons to transform as all combinations of $\mathbf{1}$, $\mathbf{1}'$ and $\mathbf{1}…
The observed pattern of neutrino mixing angles is in good agreement with the hypothesis of neutrino anarchy, which posits that Nature has chosen the entries of the leptonic mixing matrix at random. In this paper we investigate how stable this conclusion is under renormalization group effects. Working in the simplest type-I seesaw model and two variants of the inverse seesaw model we study how the statistical distributions of the neutrino mixing parameters evolve between the Grand Unification scale and the electroweak scale. Especially in the inverse seesaw case we find significant distortions:…
In the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (NMSSM) with extra heavy neutrino superfields, neutrino may acquire its mass via a seesaw mechanism and sneutrino may act as a viable dark matter (DM) candidate. Given the strong tension between the naturalness for $Z$ boson mass and the DM direct detection experiments for customary neutralino DM candidate, we augment the NMSSM with Type-I seesaw mechanism, which is the simplest extension of the theory to predict neutrino mass, and study the scenarios of sneutrino DM. We construct likelihood function with LHC Higgs data, B-physics measuremen…
We review the main features and results of thermal leptogenesis within the type I seesaw mechanism, the minimal extension of the Standard Model explaining neutrino masses and mixing. After presenting the simplest approach, the vanilla scenario, we discuss various important developments in recent years, such as the inclusion of lepton and heavy neutrino flavour effects, a description beyond a hierarchical heavy neutrino mass spectrum and an improved kinetic description within the density matrix and the closed-time-path formalisms. We also discuss how leptogenesis can ultimately represent an imp…
The scotogenic scenario provides an attractive approach to both Dark Matter and neutrino mass generation, in which the same symmetry that stabilises Dark Matter also ensures the radiative seesaw origin of neutrino mass. However the simplest scenario may suffer from inconsistencies arising from the spontaneous breaking of the underlying $\mathbb{Z}_2$ symmetry. Here we show that the singlet-triplet extension of the simplest model naturally avoids this problem due to the presence of scalar triplets neutral under the $\mathbb{Z}_2$ which affect the evolution of the couplings in the scalar sector.…
Flavour and CP violations that the neutrino-seesaw couplings of types I, II, and III induce radiatively in the soft massive parameters of the minimal supersymmetric SU(5) model, made realistic by nonrenormalizable operators, are analyzed. Effective couplings are used to parametrize the couplings of renormalizable operators and of the corrections that nonrenormalizable ones provide at the tree level. It is found that for a limited, but sufficient accuracy in the calculations of such violations, it is possible to extend the picture of effective couplings to the quantum level, all the way to the …
Radiatively generated neutrino masses ($m_ν$) are proportional to supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking, as a result of the SUSY non-renormalisation theorem. In this work, we investigate the space of SUSY radiative seesaw models with regard to their dependence on SUSY breaking ($\require{cancel}\cancel{\text{SUSY}}$). In addition to contributions from sources of $\cancel{\text{SUSY}}$ that are involved in electroweak symmetry breaking ($\cancel{\text{SUSY}}_\text{EWSB}$ contributions), and which are manifest from $\langle F^\dagger_H \rangle = μ\langle \bar H \rangle \neq 0$ and $\langle D \rangle = g…
The DAMPE $e^+ e^-$ excess at around 1.4 TeV could be explained in the type-II seesaw model with a scalar dark mater $D$ which is stabilized by a discrete $Z_2$ symmetry. The simplest scenario is the annihilation $DD \to H^{++} H^{--}$ followed by the subsequent decay $H^{\pm\pm} \to e^\pm e^\pm$, with both the DM and triplet scalars roughly 3 TeV with a small mass splitting. In addition to the Drell-Yan process at future 100 TeV hadron colliders, the doubly-charged components could also be produced at lepton colliders like ILC and CLIC in the off-shell mode, and mediate lepton flavor violatin…
We review the collider phenomenology of neutrino physics and the synergetic aspects at energy, intensity and cosmic frontiers to test the new physics behind the neutrino mass mechanism. In particular, we focus on seesaw models within the minimal setup as well as with extended gauge and/or Higgs sectors, and on supersymmetric neutrino mass models with seesaw mechanism and with $R$-parity violation. In the simplest Type-I seesaw scenario with sterile neutrinos, we summarize and update the current experimental constraints on the sterile neutrino mass and its mixing with the active neutrinos. We a…
We studied models of leptogenesis where three right-handed Majorana neutrinos are involved and the minimal-extended seesaw mechanism including an additional singlet field produces four light neutrinos. This study shows that the type of mass ordering and heavy Majorana scales can be determined by inputting the simplest orthogonal matrix into the Casas-Ibarra(CI) representation of seesaw. The CP asymmetry produced from the decays of heavy neutrinos and the dilution mass are predicted in terms of the mass and mixing elements of the fourth neutrino. Upon the choice of CI matrix, the existence of a…
We study neutrino masses and mixings based on the simplest SO(10) mass relations and the seesaw mechanism. We find that the requirement of large neutrino mixings determines the relative magnitude of the heavy Majorana neutrino masses in terms of the known quark mass hierarchy. This leads to specific predictions for the structure of the neutrino mixing matrix, the light neutrino masses, CP violation in neutrino oscillations, neutrinoless double b-decay and the baryon asymmetry.
Motivated by the new observed scalar boson of 126 GeV at ATLAS and CMS, various phenomena in two-Higgs-doublet model (THDM) are investigated broadly in the literature. For considering the model that possesses a solution to the massive neutrinos, we study the simplest extension of conventional type-II seesaw model to two Higgs doublets. We find that the new interactions in the scalar potential cause the sizable mixture of charged Higgses in triplet and doublet. As a result, we have a completely different decay pattern for doubly charged Higgs ($δ^{\pm\pm}$), even the vacuum expectation value (V…
The existence of the tiny neutrino mass and the flavor mixing can be naturally explained by type-I Seesaw model which is probably the simplest extension of the Standard Model (SM) using Majorana type SM gauge singlet heavy Right Handed Neutrinos (RHNs). If the RHNs are around the Electroweak(EW)-scale having sizable mixings with the SM light neutrinos, they can be produced at the high energy colliders such as Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and future $100$ TeV proton-proton (pp) collider through the characteristic signatures with same sign di-lepton introducing lepton number violations(LNV). On t…
I construct predictive models of neutrino mass and mixing that have fewer parameters, both in the lepton sector and overall, than the default seesaw model. The predictions are theta13=0 and one massless neutrino, with the models having a Z4 or Z2 symmetry and just one extra degree of freedom: one real singlet Higgs field. It has been shown that models with an unbroken family symmetry, and with no Higgs fields other than the Standard Model Higgs doublet produce masses and mixing matrices that have been ruled out by experiment. Therefore, this article investigates the predictions of models with …
We explore generic features of the leptonic CP violation in the framework of the seesaw type I mechanism with similarity of the Dirac lepton and quarks mass matrices $m_D$. For this, we elaborate on the standard parametrization conditions which allow to simultaneously obtain the Dirac and Majorana phases. If the only origin of CP violation is the left-handed (LH) transformation which diagonalizes $m_D$ (similar to quarks), the leptonic CP violation is suppressed and the Dirac phase is close to $π$ or to $0$ with $\sin δ_{CP} \approx (\sin θ_{13}^q /\sin θ_{13}) \cos θ_{23} \sin δ_q \sim λ^2 \s…

We analyze the sensitivity of low-energy fundamental symmetry tests to interactions mediated by doubly-charged scalars that arise in type-II seesaw models of neutrino mass and their left-right symmetric extensions. We focus on the next generation measurement of the parity-violating asymmetry in Møller scattering planned by the MOLLER collaboration at Jefferson Laboratory. We compare the MOLLER sensitivity to that of searches for charged lepton flavor violation (CLFV) and neutrinoless double beta-decay ($0νββ$-decay) as well as present and possible future high-energy collider probes. We show th…
Using the seesaw mechanism and a discrete symmetry, we construct a class of models for the neutrino mass matrix where the inverse of that matrix is the sum of a mu-tau antisymmetric background and a perturbation. We consider various possibilities for that perturbation. The simplest possible perturbations lead to four-parameter neutrino mass matrices which are unable to fit the experimental data. More complicated perturbations give rise to viable six-parameter mass matrices; we present detailed predictions of each of them.
We explore realizations of minimal flavor violation (MFV) for leptons in the simplest seesaw models where the neutrino mass generation mechanism is driven by new fermion singlets (type I) or triplets (type III) and by a scalar triplet (type II). We also discuss similarities and differences of the MFV implementation among the three scenarios. To study the phenomenological implications, we consider a number of effective dimension-six operators that are purely leptonic or couple leptons to the standard-model gauge and Higgs bosons and evaluate constraints on the scale of MFV associated with these…
Local gravitational theories with more than four derivatives are superrenormalizable, and also may be unitary in the Lee-Wick sense. Thus, it is relevant to study the low-energy properties of these theories, especially to identify observables which might be useful for experimental detection of higher derivatives. Using an analogy with the neutrino Physics, we explore the possibility of a gravitational seesaw mechanism, in which several dimensional parameters of the same order of magnitude produce a hierarchy in the masses of propagating particles. Such a mechanism could make a relatively light…
The Standard Model, extended with three right-handed (RH) neutrinos, is the simplest model that can explain light neutrino masses, the baryon asymmetry of the Universe, and dark matter (DM). Models in which RH neutrinos are light are generally easier to test in experiments. In this work, we show that, even if the RH neutrinos are super-heavy ($M_{i=1,2,3}>10^9$ GeV) -- close to the Grand Unification scale -- the model can be tested thanks to its distinct features on the stochastic Gravitational Wave (GW) background. We consider an early Universe filled with ultralight primordial black holes (P…
The recent T2K and MINOS indications for a "large" theta_13 neutrino mixing angle can be accommodated in principle by an infinite number of Yukawa flavour structures in the seesaw model. Without considering any explicit flavour symmetry, there is an instructive exercise one can do: to determine the simplest flavour structures which can account for the data with a minimum number of parameters, simply assuming these parameters to be uncorrelated. This approach points towards a limited number of simple structures which show the minimum complexity a neutrino mass model must generally involve to ac…
In the simplest scheme for neutrino masses invoking a triplet of Higgs scalars there are two CP-even neutral Higgs bosons $H_i$ (i=1,2) and one massive pseudoscalar $A$. For some choices of parameters, the lightest $H_1$ may be lighter than the Standard Model Higgs boson. If the smallness of neutrino mass is due to the small value of the triplet expectation value, as expected in a seesaw scheme, the Higgs bosons may decay dominantly to the invisible neutrino channel. We derive limits on Higgs masses and couplings that follow from LEP I precision measurements of the invisible Z width.
We present a comprehensive analysis of neutrino mass and lepton mixing in theories with $A_5$ modular symmetry. We construct the weight 2, weight 4 and weight 6 modular forms of level 5 in terms of Dedekind eta-functions and Klein forms, and their decomposition into irreducible representation of $A_5$. We construct all the simplest models based on $A_5$ modular symmetry, including scenarios of models with and without flavons in the charged lepton sectors. For each case, the neutrino masses can be generated through either the Weinberg operator or the type I seesaw mechanism. We perform an exhau…
