We revisit the theory of background fields constructed on the BRST-algebra of a spinning particle with $\mathcal{N}=4$ worldline supersymmetry, whose spectrum contains the graviton but no other fields. On a generic background, the closure of the BRST algebra implies the vacuum Einstein equations with a cosmological constant that is undetermined. On the other hand, in the "vacuum" background with no metric, the cohomology is given by a collection of free scalar- and vector fields. Only certain combinations of linear excitations, necessarily involving a vector field, can be extended beyond the linear level with the vector field inducing an Einstein metric.
The spinorial local world-line $κ$-symmetry of the covariant Brink-Schwarz formulation of the 4-$D$ superparticle is abelian in an off-shell phase-space formulation. The result is shown to generalize to the extended spinorial transformations of the spinning superparticle.
This paper is concerned with theories describing spinning particles that are formulated in terms of actions possessing either local world-line supersymmetry or local fermionic {\it kappa} invariance. These classical actions are obtained by adding a finite number of spinor or vector coordinates to the usual space-time coordinates. Generalizing to superspace leads to corresponding types of \lq spinning superparticle' theories in which the wave-functions are superfields in some (generally reducible) representation of the Lorentz group. A class of these spinning superparticle actions possesses the…
The first quantized theory of N=2, D=3 massive superparticles with arbitrary fixed central charge and (half)integer or fractional superspin is constructed. The quantum states are realized on the fields carrying a finite dimensional, or a unitary infinite dimensional representation of the supergroups OSp(2|2) or SU(1,1|2). The construction originates from quantization of a classical model of the superparticle we suggest. The physical phase space of the classical superparticle is embedded in a symplectic superspace $T^\ast({R}^{1,2})\times{L}^{1|2}$, where the inner Kähler supermanifold ${L}^{1|…
A combined model of the Kerr spinning particle and superparticle is considered. The structure of the Kerr geometry is presented in a complex form as being created by a complex source. A natural supergeneralization of this construction is obtained corresponding to a complex "supersource". Peforming a supershift to the Kerr and Kerr-Sen solutions we obtain metrics of supergravity black holes with a nonlinear realization of broken supersymmetry.
The two-twistor formulation of particle mechanics in D-dimensional anti-de Sitter space for D=4,5,7, which linearises invariance under the AdS isometry group Sp(4;K) for K=R,C,H, is generalized to the massless N-extended "spinning particle". The twistor variables are gauge invariant with respect to the initial N local worldline supersymmetries; this simplifies aspects of the quantum theory such as implications of global gauge anomalies. We also give details of the two-supertwistor form of the superparticle, in particular the massive superparticle on AdS_5.
We propose a formulation of the massive spinning particle in terms of physical bosonic and fermionic fields only. We make use neither of auxiliary objects of the type of $γ_5$ nor of gauge fields. The model is to be used as a suitable starting point for a forthcoming study of the rigid superparticle.
Gravitino dark matter, together with thermal leptogenesis, implies an upper bound on the masses of superparticles. In the case of broken R-parity the constraints from primordial nucleosynthesis are naturally satisfied and decaying gravitinos lead to characteristic signatures in high energy cosmic rays. We analyse the implications for supergravity models with universal boundary conditions at the grand unification scale. Together with low-energy observables one obtains a window of superparticle masses, which will soon be probed at the LHC, and a range of allowed reheating temperatures.
Primordial black holes can have substantial spin -- a fundamental property that has a strong effect on its evaporation rate. We conduct a comprehensive study of the detectability of primordial black holes with non-negligible spin, via the searches for the neutrinos and positrons in the MeV energy range. Diffuse supernova neutrino background searches and observation of the 511 keV gamma-ray line from positrons in the Galactic center set competitive constraints. Spinning primordial black holes are probed up to a slightly higher mass range compared to non-spinning ones. Our constraint using neutr…
Electron and positron fluxes from gravitino decays cannot explain both, the PAMELA positron fraction and the electron + positron flux recently measured by Fermi LAT. The observed fluxes require astrophysical sources. The measured antiproton flux allows for a sizable contribution of decaying grav…
We examine non-thermal dark matter production from a late-decaying scalar field, with a particular attention on non-renormalizable operators of D=5 through which the scalar field decays into the standard model particles and their superpartners. We show that almost the same number of superparticles as that of particles are generally produced from the decay. To avoid the gravitino overproduction problem, the decay is favored to proceed via interactions with an intermediate cut-off scale M << M_P. This should be contrasted to the conventional scenario using the modulus decay. The bosonic supersym…
We investigate a class of models for dark matter and/or negative-pressure, dynamical dark energy consisting of ``spintessence,'' a complex scalar field $ϕ$ spinning in a U(1)-symmetric potential $V(ϕ)=V(|ϕ|)$. As the Universe expands, the field spirals slowly toward the origin. The internal angular momentum plays an important role in the cosmic evolution and fluctuation dynamics. We outline the constraints on a cosmic spintessence field, describing the properties of the potential necessary to sustain a viable dark energy model, making connections with quintessence and self-interacting and fuzz…
We numerically and analytically explore the background cosmological dynamics of multifield dark energy with highly nongeodesic or "spinning" field-space trajectories. These extensions of standard single-field quintessence possess appealing theoretical features and observable differences from the cosmological standard model. At the level of the cosmological background, we perform a phase-space analysis and identify approximate attractors with late-time acceleration for a wide range of initial conditions. Focusing on two classes of field-space geometry, we derive bounds on parameter space by dem…
We consider the imprint of superradiant instabilities of nonevaporating primordial black holes (PBHs) on the spectrum of the cosmic microwave background (CMB). In the radiation dominated era, PBHs are surrounded by a roughly homogeneous cosmic plasma which endows photons with an effective mass through the plasma frequency. In this setting, spinning PBHs are unstable to a spontaneous spindown through the well-known "black-hole bomb" mechanism. At linear level, the photon density is trapped by the effective photon mass and grows exponentially in time due to superradiance. As the plasma density d…
We present supersymmetric, curved space, quantum mechanical models based on deformations of a parabolic subalgebra of osp(2p+2|Q). The dynamics are governed by a spinning particle action whose internal coordinates are Lorentz vectors labeled by the fundamental representation of osp(2p|Q). The states of the theory are tensors or spinor-tensors on the curved background while conserved charges correspond to the various differential geometry operators acting on these. The Hamiltonian generalizes Lichnerowicz's wave/Laplace operator. It is central, and the models are supersymmetric whenever the bac…
