With an extreme neutron-to-proton ratio of N/Z=3, 8He provides an ideal laboratory for the study of a variety of exotic phenomena, such as the emergence of a soft dipole mode that is dominated by transitions into the continuum. In this contribution, a covariant density functional theory (DFT) framework is used to compute ground-state properties and the dipole response of 8He. Although 8He is admittedly too light for DFT to be applicable, the great merit of the approach is that the spurious contamination associated with the center-of-mass motion is guaranteed to decouple from the physical response. Given that a strong mixing between the isoscalar and isovector dipole modes is expected for a system with such a large neutron-proton asymmetry as 8He, the narrow structures that emerged at low energies in the isovector dipole response are attributed to the shift of the spurious strength to zero (or near zero) excitation energy. Thus, the theoretical framework implemented here disfavors the emergence of a soft dipole mode in 8He.
In neutron-rich $^8$He, we study the soft dipole resonance, which is regarded as a dipole oscillation of four valence neutrons against the $^4$He core, and its effect on the low-energy electric dipole strength with a $^4$He+$n$+$n$+$n$+$n$ five-body cluster model. This work is an extended study of an earlier letter [T. Myo and K. Katō, Phys. Rev. C106, L021302 (2022)]. The five-body unbound $1^-$ states of $^8$He are obtained with the complex energy eigenvalues by using the complex scaling method and the dipole strength is calculated in terms of the complex-scaled Green's function. Two kinds o…
We investigate the soft dipole resonance in the proton-rich nucleus $^8_6$C$_2$, which is a collective dipole oscillation of four valence protons against the $α$ core, and discuss the isospin symmetry with the mirror nucleus $^8_2$He$_6$. We use the $α+N+N+N+N$ five-body cluster model and many-body resonances are obtained using the complex-scaling method. The $1^-$ resonance of $^8_6$C$_2$ is confirmed at the excitation energy of 13 MeV with a large decay width of 24 MeV, and its structure is similar to the soft dipole resonance in $^8_2$He$_6$, such as the configuration mixing and the spatial …
The "soft dipole" E1 strength function is calculated for the transition from the $^{6}$He $0^+$ ground state to the $1^-$ continuum $^{4}$He+$n$+$n$. The calculations were performed within the hyperspherical harmonics formalism. The sensitivity of the results to the $^{6}$He ground state structure and to final state interactions, are analyzed. The large-basis calculations show the reliably converged results for soft dipole strength function and for momentum correlations of the $^{6}\mbox{He} \rightarrow \, ^{4}$He+$n$+$n$ dissociation products. Transition mechanisms are analyzed based on the m…
The properties of the two-quasiparticle-like soft E1-modes and PDR have been and are systematically studied with the help of inelastic and electromagnetic experiments which essentially probe the particle-hole components of these vibrations. It is shown that further insight in their characterisation can be achieved with the help of two-nucleon transferreactions, in particular concerning the particle-particle components of the modes, in terms of absolute differential cross sections which take properly into account successive and simultaneous transfer mechanisms corrected for non-orthogonality, a…
We use a factorization scheme analogous to one proposed for single inclusive forward hadron production to factorize the soft gluon divergence present in the deep inelastic scattering cross sections in the dipole picture at next-to-leading order (NLO). We show numerically that in this carefully constructed scheme it is possible to obtain meaningful results for the DIS cross sections at NLO, and so we are able to quantitatively study the recently derived NLO corrections to the DIS cross sections. We find that the NLO corrections can be significant and sensitive to the details of the factorizatio…

The problems related to the existence of the spurious dipole mode (SDM) in the self-consistent nuclear-structure models are considered. A method is formulated that allows to eliminate coupling of the SDM with the physical modes in the extended random-phase approximation (ERPA) theories, in particular, in the time blocking approximation (TBA) which is the model of the ERPA type. It is shown that the application of this method in the realistic TBA calculations of the $E1$ excitations gives the results which are very close to the results of the TBA calculations without using this method if the ba…
For ultrarelativistic proton-proton and proton-nucleus collisions, we perform an exploratory study of the contribution to the elliptic flow $v_2$ coming from the orientation of the momentum of the produced particles with respect to the reaction plane. Via the CGC factorization valid at high energies, this contribution is related to the orientation of a color dipole with respect to its impact parameter, which in turn probes the transverse inhomogeneity in the target. Using the McLerran-Venugopalan model (with impact-parameter dependence) as an effective description for the soft gluon distributi…
