This paper is the fourth in a series of low-frequency searches for technosignatures. Using the Murchison Widefield Array over two nights we integrate 7 hours of data toward the Galactic Centre (centred on the position of Sagittarius A*) with a total field-of-view of 200 deg^2. We present a targeted search toward 144 exoplanetary systems, at our best yet angular resolution (75 arc seconds). This is the first technosignature search at a frequency of 155 MHz toward the Galactic Centre (our previous central frequencies have been lower). A blind search toward in excess of 3 million stars toward the Galactic Centre and Galactic bulge is also completed, placing an equivalent isotropic power limit <1.1X10^19W at the distance to the Galactic Centre. No plausible technosignatures are detected.
The Engineering Development Array (EDA) is a single test station for Square Kilometre Array (SKA) precursor technology. We have used the EDA to detect low-frequency radio recombination lines (RRLs) from the Galactic Centre region. Low-frequency RRLs are an area of interest for future low-frequency SKA work as these lines provide important information on the physical properties of the cold neutral medium. In this project we investigate the EDA, its bandpass and the radio frequency interference environment for low-frequency spectroscopy. We present line spectra from 30 to 325 MHz for the Galacti…
We present 610-MHz Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope observations of 0.84 deg$^2$ of the AMI001 field (centred on $00^{\rm h} 23^{\rm m} 10^{\rm s}$, $+31^{\circ} 53'$) with an r.m.s. noise of 18 $μ$Jy beam$^{-1}$ in the centre of the field. 955 sources are detected, and 814 are included in the source count analysis. The source counts from these observations are consistent with previous work. We have used these data to study the spectral index distribution of a sample of sources selected at 15.7 GHz from the recent deep extension to the Tenth Cambridge (10C) survey. The median spectral index, $α…
From targeted observations of ground-state OH masers towards 702 Multibeam (MMB) survey 6.7-GHz methanol masers, between Galactic longitudes 186$^{\circ}$ through the Galactic centre to 20$^{\circ}$, made as part of the `MAGMO' project, we present the physical and polarisation properties of the 1720-MHz OH maser transition, including the identification of Zeeman pairs. We present 10 new and 23 previously catalogued 1720-MHz OH maser sources detected towards star formation regions. In addition, we also detected 16 1720-MHz OH masers associated with supernova remnants and two sites of diffuse OH…
We present the results of the first complete unbaised survey of the Galactic Plane for 6035-MHz excited-state hydroxyl masers undertaken as part of the Methanol Multibeam Survey. These observations cover the Galactic longitude ranges $186^{\circ}< l < 60^{\circ}$ including the Galactic Centre. We report the detection of 127 excited-state hydroxyl masers within the survey region, 47 being new sources. The positions of new detections were determined from interferometric observations with the Australia Telescope Compact Array. We discuss the association of 6035-MHz masers in our survey with the 6…
We have conducted a Galactic plane survey of methanol masers at 6668 MHz using a 7-beam receiver on the Parkes telescope. Here we present results from the first part, which provides sensitive unbiased coverage of a large region around the Galactic Centre. Details are given for 183 methanol maser sites in the longitude range 345$^{\circ}$ through the Galactic Centre to 6$^{\circ}$. Within 6$^{\circ}$ of the Centre, we found 88 maser sites, of which more than half (48) are new discoveries. The masers are confined to a narrow Galactic latitude range, indicative of many sources at the Galactic Cen…
This work makes available a further 2,860deg$^2$ of the GLEAM survey, covering half of the accessible Galactic Plane, across twenty frequency bands sampling $72-231$MHz, with resolution $4'-2'$. Unlike previous GLEAM data releases, we used multi-scale clean to better deconvolve large-scale Galactic structure. For the Galactic longitude ranges $345^\circ < l < 67^\circ$, $180^\circ < l < 240^\circ$, we provide a compact source catalogue of 22,037 components selected from a 60-MHz bandwidth image centred at 200-MHz, with RMS noise $\approx10-20$mJy beam$^{-1}$ and position accuracy better than $…
Full polarization measurements of 1665 and 1667-MHz OH masers at sites of massive star formation have been made with the Parkes 64-m radio telescope. Here we present the resulting spectra for 104 northerly sources. For more than 20 masers we made new measurements with the ATCA (which also revealed several hitherto unreported masers), in most cases yielding arcsecond precision to match the majority of sites. Position improvements assist in distinguishing OH masers with accompanying methanol masers from those without (thought to be at a later stage of evolution). There was no existing linear pol…
We study the structure and kinematics of the OH-streamer and the +80 km/s cloud and their interactions with the circumnuclear disk (CND) and with other molecular clouds in the vicinity of the Galactic centre (GC), and we map OH absorption at about 6" resolution at R $\le$ 10 pc from the GC, with about 9 km/s velocity resolution. The VLA was used to map OH line absorption at the 1665 and 1667 MHz lambda doublet main lines towards the Sagittarius A complex. Strong OH absorption was found in the OH-streamer, the southern streamer (SS), the +20, +50, and +80 km/s molecular clouds, the molecular be…
We present LOFAR High-Band Array (HBA) observations of the Herschel-ATLAS North Galactic Pole survey area. The survey we have carried out, consisting of four pointings covering around 142 square degrees of sky in the frequency range 126--173 MHz, does not provide uniform noise coverage but otherwise is representative of the quality of data to be expected in the planned LOFAR wide-area surveys, and has been reduced using recently developed `facet calibration' methods at a resolution approaching the full resolution of the datasets ($\sim 10 \times 6$ arcsec) and an rms off-source noise that rang…
We follow up on a report by Vacca et al. (2018) of 28 candidate large-scale diffuse synchrotron sources in an 8°$\times$8° area of the sky (centred at RA 5h0m0s Dec 5°48'0''). These sources were originally observed at 1.4 GHz using a combination of the single-dish Sardinia Radio Telescope (SRT) and archival NRAO VLA Sky Survey (NVSS) data. They are in an area with nine massive galaxy clusters at z $\approx$ 0.1, and are candidates for the first detection of filaments of the synchrotron cosmic web. We attempt to verify these candidate sources with lower frequency observations at 154 MHz with th…
We present the results of 325 MHz GMRT observations of a super-cluster field, known to contain five Abell clusters at redshift $z \sim 0.2$. We achieve a nominal sensitivity of $34\,μ$Jy beam$^{-1}$ toward the phase centre. We compile a catalogue of 3257 sources with flux densities in the range $183\,μ\rm{Jy}\,-\,1.5\,\rm{Jy}$ within the entire $\sim 6.5$ square degree field of view. Subsequently, we use available survey data at other frequencies to derive the spectral index distribution for a sub-sample of these sources, recovering two distinct populations -- a dominant population which exhib…
We present the full data release for the Southern Parkes Large-Area Survey in Hydroxyl (SPLASH), a sensitive, unbiased single-dish survey of the Southern Galactic Plane in all four ground-state transitions of the OH radical at 1612, 1665, 1667 and 1720 MHz. The survey covers the inner Galactic Plane, Central Molecular Zone and Galactic Centre over the range $|b|<$ 2$^{\circ}$, 332$^{\circ}$ $< l <$ 10$^{\circ}$, with a small extension between 2$^{\circ}$ $< b <$ 6$^{\circ}$, 358$^{\circ}$ $< l <$ 4$^{\circ}$. SPLASH is the most sensitive large-scale survey of OH to-date, reaching a characteris…
We present the first Murchison Widefield Array observations of the well-known cluster of galaxies Abell 3667 (A3667) between 105 and 241 MHz. A3667 is one of the best known examples of a galaxy cluster hosting a double radio relic and has been reported to contain a faint radio halo and bridge. The origins of radio halos, relics and bridges is still unclear, however galaxy cluster mergers seems to be an important factor. We clearly detect the North-West (NW) and South-East (SE) radio relics in A3667 and find an integrated flux density at 149 MHz of 28.1 +/- 1.7 and 2.4 +/- 0.1 Jy, respectively,…
The Lockman Hole is a well-studied extragalactic field with extensive multi-band ancillary data covering a wide range in frequency, essential for characterising the physical and evolutionary properties of the various source populations detected in deep radio fields (mainly star-forming galaxies and AGNs). In this paper we present new 150-MHz observations carried out with the LOw Frequency ARray (LOFAR), allowing us to explore a new spectral window for the faint radio source population. This 150-MHz image covers an area of 34.7 square degrees with a resolution of 18.6$\times$14.7 arcsec and rea…
We present the South Galactic Pole (SGP) data release from the GaLactic and Extragalactic All-sky Murchison Widefield Array (GLEAM) survey. These data combine both years of GLEAM observations at 72-231 MHz conducted with the Murchison Widefield Array (MWA) and cover an area of 5,113 $\mathrm{deg}^2$ centred on the SGP at 20$^\mathrm{h}$40$^\mathrm{m}$ < RA < 05$^\mathrm{h}$04$^\mathrm{m}$ and $-48°$ < Dec < $-2°$. At 216 MHz, the typical rms noise is $\approx 5$ mJy/beam and the angular resolution $\approx 2$ arcmin. The source catalogue contains a total of 108,851 components above $5σ$, of wh…
High quality low-frequency radio surveys have the promise of advancing our understanding of many important topics in astrophysics, including the life cycle of active galactic nuclei (AGN), particle acceleration processes in jets, the history of star formation, and exoplanet magnetospheres. Currently leading low-frequency surveys reach an angular resolution of a few arcseconds. However, this resolution is not yet sufficient to study the more compact and distant sources in detail. Sub-arcsecond resolution is therefore the next milestone in advancing these fields. The biggest challenge at low rad…
We present new low-frequency ($ν= 88$-216 MHz) observations of the complex merging galaxy cluster Abell 3266. These new observations are taken with the Murchison Widefield Array (MWA) in its Phase II 'extended', long-baseline configuration, offering the highest-resolution low-frequency view of the cluster to date. We report on the detection of four steep spectrum ($α\lesssim -1$ for $S_ν\propto ν^α$) extended radio sources within the cluster. We confirm the detection of a $\sim 570$ kpc radio relic to the south of the cluster, and a possible bridge of emission connecting the relic to the clust…
We determine upper limits on the dark matter (DM) self-annihilation cross section for scenarios in which annihilation leads to the production of electron--positron pairs. In the Galactic centre (GC), relativistic electrons and positrons produce a radio flux via synchroton emission, and a gamma ray flux via bremsstrahlung and inverse Compton scattering. On the basis of archival, interferometric and single-dish radio data, we have determined the radio spectrum of an elliptical region around the Galactic centre of extent 3 degrees semi-major axis (along the Galactic plane) and 1 degree semi-minor…
Synchrotron emission pervades the Galactic plane at low radio frequencies, originating from cosmic ray electrons interacting with the Galactic magnetic field. Using a low-frequency radio telescope, the Murchison Widefield Array (MWA), we measure the free-free absorption of this Galactic synchrotron emission by intervening HII regions along the line of sight. These absorption measurements allow us to calculate the Galactic cosmic-ray electron emissivity behind and in front of 47 detected HII regions in the region $250^\circ < l < 355^\circ$, $|b| < 2^\circ$. We find that all average emissivitie…
