Drawing on work of Berndtsson and of Lempert and Szőke, we define a kind of complex analytic structure for families of (possibly finite-dimensional) Hilbert spaces that might not fit together to form a holomorphic vector bundle but nevertheless have a reasonable definition of curvature that agrees with the curvature of the Chern connection when the family of Hilbert spaces is locally trivial. We thus obtain a new proof of a celebrated theorem of Berndtsson on the curvature of direct images of semi-positively twisted relative canonical bundles (i.e., adjoint bundles), and of its higher-rank generalization due to Liu and Yang.
We utilize the Legendre-Fenchel transform and weak geodesics for plurisubharmonic functions to construct a weight function that can be used in the Berndtsson-Lempert method, to give an Ohsawa-Takegoshi extension type of result. Theorem 4.1 and Theorem 0.1 in \cite{OT2017} (Theorem \ref{Theorem A} and \ref{Theorem B} below) follow as two special cases of this result, thus answering affirmatively a question posed by Ohsawa in remark 4.1 in \cite{OT2017}, on the Berndtsson-Lempert method.
In this survey of the Andersen-Lempert theory we present the state of the art in the study of the density property (which means that the Lie algebra generated by completely integrable holomorphic vector fields on a given Stein manifold is dense in the space of all holomorphic vector fields). There are also two new results in the paper one of which is the theorem stating that the product of Stein manifolds with the volume density property possesses such a property as well. The second one is a meaningful example of an algebraic surface without the algebraic density property. The proof of the las…
Let X be a compact complex manifold whose anti-canonical line bundle is big. We show that X admits no non-trivial holomorphic vector fields if it is Gibbs stable (at any level). The proof is based on a vanishing result for measure preserving holomorphic vector fields on X of independent interest. As an application it shown that, in general, if the anti-canonical line bundle is big, there are no holomorphic vector fields on X that are tangent to a non-singular irreducible anti-canonical divisor S on X. More generally, the result holds for varieties with log terminal singularities and log pairs.…
In his Annals of Mathematics paper (2009), Berndtsson proves an important result on the Nakano positivity of holomorphic infinite-rank vector bundles whose fibers are Hilbert spaces consisting of holomorphic $L^2$-functions with respect to a family of weight functions $\left\{e^{-φ(\cdot,t)}\right\}_{t \in U}$, varying in $t \in U \in \mathbb{C}^m$, over a pseudoconvex domain. Using a variant of Hörmander's theorem due to Donnelly and Fefferman, we show that Berndtsson's Nakano positivity result holds under different (in fact, more general) curvature assumptions. This is of particular interest…
We introduce and study a notion of singular hermitian metrics on holomorphic vector bundles, following Berndtsson and P{ă}un. We define what it means for such a metric to be curved in the sense of Griffiths and investigate the assumptions needed in order to locally define the cuvature $Θ^h$ as a matrix of currents. We then proceed to show that such metrics can be regularised in such a way that the corresponding curvature tensors converge weakly to $Θ^h$. Finally we define what it means for $h$ to be strictly negatively curved in the sense of Nakano and show that it is possible to regularise su…
This paper is motivated by Grothendieck's splitting theorem. In the 1960s, Gohberg generalized this to a class of Banach bundles. We consider a compact complex manifold $X$ and a holomorphic Banach bundle $E \to X$ that is a compact perturbation of a trivial bundle in a sense recently introduced by Lempert. We prove that $E$ splits into the sum of a finite rank bundle and a trivial bundle, provided $H^{1}(X, Ø)=0$.
Let $p:\sXS$ be a proper Kähler fibration and $\sE\sX$ a Hermitian holomorphic vector bundle. As motivated by the work of Berndtsson(\cite{Berndtsson09a}), by using basic Hodge theory, we derive several general curvature formulas for the direct image $p_*(K_{\sX/S}\ts \sE)$ for general Hermitian holomorphic vector bundle $\sE$ in a simple way. A straightforward application is that, if the family $\sXS$ is infinitesimally trivial and Hermitian vector bundle $\sE$ is Nakano-negative along the base $S$, then the direct image $p_*(K_{\sX/S}\ts \sE)$ is Nakano-negative. We also use these curvature …
In a previous paper, \cite{Berndtsson}, we have studied a property of subharmonic dependence on a parameter of Bergman kernels for a family of weighted $L^2$-spaces of holomorphic functions. Here we prove a result on the curvature of a vector bundle defined by this family of $L^2$-spaces itself, which has the earlier results on Bergman kernels as a corollary. Applying the same arguments to spaces of holomorphic sections to line bundles over a locally trivial fibration we also prove that if a holomorphic vector bundle, $V$, over a complex manifold is ample in the sense of Hartshorne, then $V\gr…
We solve the problem of simultaneously embedding properly holomorphically into $\Bbb C^2$ a whole family of $n$-connected domains $Ω_r\subset\Bbb P^1$ such that none of the components of $\Bbb P^1\setminusΩ_r$ reduces to a point, by constructing a continuous mapping $Ξ\colon\bigcup_r\{r\}\timesΩ_r\to\Bbb C^2$ such that $Ξ(r,\cdot)\colonΩ_r\hookrightarrow\Bbb C^2$ is a proper holomorphic embedding for every $r$. To this aim, a parametric version of both the Andersén-Lempert procedure and Carleman's Theorem is formulated and proved.
In this note, we obtain various formulas for the curvature of the $L^2$ metric on the direct image of the relative canonical bundle twisted by a holomorphic line bundle endowed with a positively curved metric with analytic singularities, generalizing some of Berndtsson's seminal results in the smooth case. When the twist is assumed to be relatively big, we further provide a very explicit lower bound for the curvature of the $L^2$ metric.
Inspired by Berndtsson's work on the subharmonicity property of the Bergman kernel, we give a local variation formula of the full Bergman kernels associated to deformations of complex manifolds. In compact case, it follows from the reproducing property of the Bergman kernel and the curvature formula of the 0-th direct image sheaf. In general, following Schumacher's idea, we use the Lie derivative to compute the variation. An equivalent criterion for the triviality of holomorphic motions of planar domains in terms of the Bergman kernel is given as an application.
In his famous 1981 paper, Lempert proved that given a point in a strongly convex domain the complex geodesics (i.e., the extremal disks) for the Kobayashi metric passing through that point provide a very useful fibration of the domain. In this paper we address the question whether, given a smooth complex Finsler metric on a complex manifold, it is possible to give purely differential geometric properties of the metric ensuring the existence of such a fibration in complex geodesics of the manifold. We first discuss at some length the notion of holomorphic sectional curvature for a complex Finsl…
We study singular hermitian metrics on holomorphic vector bundles, following Berndtsson-P{ă}un. Previous work by Raufi has shown that for such metrics, it is in general not possible to define the curvature as a current with measure coefficients. In this paper we show that despite this, under appropriate codimension restrictions on the singular set of the metric, it is still possible to define Chern forms as closed currents of order 0 with locally finite mass, which represent the Chern classes of the vector bundle.
In this paper we describe an approach to complex Finsler metrics suitable to deal with global questions, and stressing the similarities between hermitian and complex Finsler metrics. Let $F$ be a smooth complex Finsler metric on a complex manifold $M$, and assume that the indicatrices of $F$ are strongly pseudoconvex -- we shall say that $F$ itself is strongly pseudoconvex. The vertical bundle $\cal V$ is the kernel of the differential of the canonical projection of the holomorphic tangent bundle of $M$. Using $F$, it is possible to endow $\cal V$ with a hermitian metric; let $D$ be the Chern …
