Equivariant cyclic cocycles on the Boutet de Monvel symbol algebra

We construct a periodic cyclic cocycle on the symbol algebra of Boutet de Monvel operators and use it to interpret the index formula for elliptic pseudodifferential boundary value problems due to Fedosov as the Chern--Connes pairing of the classes in $K$-theory of elliptic symbols with this cyclic cocycle. We also consider the equivariant case. Namely, we construct a periodic cyclic cocycle on the crossed product of the algebra of symbols with a group acting on this algebra by automorphisms. Such crossed products arize in index theory of nonlocal boundary value problems with shift operators.

Can Boutet de Monvel's algebra on a compact manifold with boundary be obtained as the algebra $Ψ^0(G)$ of pseudodifferential operators on some Lie groupoid $G$? Blowup constructions for Lie groupoids and a Boutet de Monvel type calculus

We present natural and general ways of building Lie groupoids, by using the classical procedures of blowups and of deformations to the normal cone. Our constructions are seen to recover many known ones involved in index theory. The deformation and blowup groupoids obtained give rise to several extensions of $C^*$-algebras and to full index problems. We compute the corresponding K-theory maps. Finally, the blowup of a manifold sitting in a transverse way in the space of objects of a Lie groupoid leads to a calculus, quite similar to the Boutet de Monvel calculus for manifolds with boundary.

C*-Structure and K-Theory of Boutet de Monvel's Algebra

We consider the norm closure $A$ of the algebra of all operators of order and class zero in Boutet de Monvel's calculus on a manifold $X$ with boundary $Y$. We first describe the image and the kernel of the continuous extension of the boundary principal symbol to $A$. Non-commutative residue of projections in Boutet de Monvel's calculus

Using results by Melo, Nest, Schick, and Schrohe on the K-theory of Boutet de Monvel's calculus of boundary value problems, we show that the non-commutative residue introduced by Fedosov, Golse, Leichtnam, and Schrohe vanishes on projections in the calculus. This partially answers a question raised in a recent collaboration with Grubb, namely whether the residue is zero on sectorial projections for boundary value problems: This is confirmed to be true when the sectorial projections is in the calculus.

Families index for Boutet de Monvel operators

We define the analytical and the topological indices for continuous families of operators in the C*-closure of the Boutet de Monvel algebra. Using techniques of C*-algebra K-theory and the Atiyah-Singer theorem for families of elliptic operators on a closed manifold, we prove that these two indices coincide.

A K-Theoretic Proof of Boutet de Monvel's Index Theorem for Boundary Value Problems

We study the C*-closure A of the algebra of all operators of order and class zero in Boutet de Monvel's calculus on a compact connected manifold X with non-empty boundary. We find short exact sequences in K-theory 0->K_i(C(X))->K_i(A/K)->K_{1-i}(C_0(T*X'))->0, i= 0,1, which split, where K denotes the compact ideal and T*X' the cotangent bundle of the interior of X. C*-Algebra approach to the index theory of boundary value problems

Boutet de Monvel's calculus provides a pseudodifferential framework which encompasses the classical differential boundary value problems. In an extension of the concept of Lopatinski and Shapiro, it associates to each operator two symbols: a pseudodifferential principal symbol, which is a bundle homomorphism, and an operator-valued boundary symbol. Nonlocal elliptic problems associated with actions of discrete groups on manifolds with boundary

Given a manifold with boundary endowed with an action of a discrete group on it, we consider the algebra of operators generated by elements in the Boutet de Monvel algebra of pseudodifferential boundary value problems and shift operators acting on functions on the manifold and its boundary. Under certain conditions on the group action, we construct a Chern character for symbols of elliptic elements in this algebra with values in a de Rham type cohomology of the fixed point manifolds and obtain an index formula in terms of this Chern character.
