We study the spacetime evolution of electric $(\textbf{E})$ and magnetic $(\textbf{B})$ fields along with the electromagnetic anomaly $(\textbf{E}\cdot\textbf{B})$ in the presence of electric ($σ$) and chiral magnetic ($σ_χ$) conductivities in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}=200$~GeV. By comparing to the Lienard-Wiechert solutions with zero conductivities, we observe a symmetry breaking of the electromagnetic field in a conducting medium with respect to the reaction plane. The decay of the field is also significantly decelerated after the conductivities are introduced. Similar effects are also found for the dipole structure of $\textbf{E}\cdot\textbf{B}$ as well as the quadrupole structure of $(\textbf{E}\cdot\textbf{B})\textbf{B}$, which may finally affect the charge separation of the elliptic flow coefficient of hadrons observed in high-energy nuclear collisions.
We study anomalous magnetohydrodynamics in a longitudinal boost invariant Bjorken flow with constant anisotropic electric conductivities as outlined in Ref. [1]. For simplicity, we consider a neutral fluid and a force-free magnetic field in the transverse direction. We derived analytic solutions of the electromagnetic fields in the laboratory frame, the chiral density, and the energy density as functions of proper time.
In the presence of a strong magnetic field, the quark gluon plasma is magnetized, leading to anisotropic transport coefficients. In this work, we focus on the effect of magnetization on electric conductivity, ignoring the possible contribution from the axial anomaly. We generalize longitudinal and transverse conductivities to finite frequencies. For transverse conductivity, a separation of contribution from fluid velocity is needed. We study the dependence of the conductivities on the magnetic field and frequency using a holographic magnetic brane model. The longitudinal conductivity scales ro…
We study the space-average electromagnetic (EM) fields weighted by the energy density in the central regions of heavy ion collisions. These average quantities can serve as a barometer for the magnetic-field induced effects such as the magnetic effect, the chiral separation effect and the chiral magnetic wave. Comparing with the magnetic fields at the geometric center of the collision, the space-average fields weighted by the energy density are smaller in the early stage but damp slower in the later stage. The space average of squared fields as well as the EM anomaly $\mathbf{E}\cdot\mathbf{B}$…
We explore the features of the $U_A(1)$ and chiral symmetry breaking of the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model without the Kobayashi-Maskawa-'t Hooft determinant term in the presence of a parallel electromagnetic field. We show that the electromagnetic chiral anomaly can induce both finite neutral pion condensate and isospin-singlet pseudo-scalar $η$ condensate and thus modifies the chiral symmetry breaking pattern. In order to characterize the strength of the $U_A(1)$ symmetry breaking, we evaluate the susceptibility associated with the $U_A(1)$ charge. The result shows that the susceptibility contrib…
In this work, we explore the ground state of QCD system and the relevant collective modes in a parallel electromagnetic (EM) field within the effective three-flavor Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. From the features of neutral chiral condensates, three critical EM fields are identified in our study: $e\bar{I}_2^{c_i}~(i=1,2,3)$. Moreover, competition between QCD and QED anomalies is found: the negativeness of $π_{\rm d}^*$ and $π_{\rm s}^*$ is a signal of QCD anomaly dominance for all the flavors, and the positiveness of $π_{\rm s}^*$ beyond $e\bar{I}_2^{c_1}$ indicates QED anomaly dominance for str…
We consider a general system with weakly broken time and translation symmetries. We assume the system also possesses a $U(1)$ symmetry which is not only weakly broken, but is anomalous. We use the second order chiral quasi-hydrodynamics to compute the magneto-conductivities in the system in the presence of a weak magnetic field. Analogous to electrical and thermoelectric conductivities, it turns out that the thermal conductivity is identified with a coefficient which depends on the mixed gauge-gravitational anomaly. By applying our general formulas to a free system of Weyl fermions at low temp…
Violation of scale symmetry, scale anomaly, being a radical concept in quantum field theory, is of importance to comprehend the vacuum structure of QCD, and should potentially contribute to the chiral phase transition in thermal QCD, as well as the chiral and U(1) axial symmetry. Though it should be essential, direct evidence of scale anomalies has never been observed in the chiral phase transition. We propose a methodology to detect a scale anomaly in the chiral phase transition, which is an electromagnetically induced scale anomaly: apply a weak magnetic field background onto two-flavor mass…
We explore the link between the chiral symmetry of QCD and the numerical results of the light-front quark model, analyzing both the two-point and three-point functions of the pion. Including the axial-vector coupling as well as the pseudoscalar coupling in the light-front quark model, we discuss the implication of the chiral anomaly in describing the pion decay constant, the pion-photon transition form factor and the electromagnetic form factor of the pion. In constraining the model parameters, we find that the chiral anomaly plays a critical role and the analysis of $F_{πγ}(Q^2)$ in timelike …
