Observation of spin-1 tunneling on a quantum computer

Spin-1 tunneling and splitting of energy levels as a result of tunneling are observed explicitly on IBM's quantum computer, ibmq-bogota. The spin-1 is realized with two spins-1/2. We detect oscillations of spin-1 between the states $|1\rangle$, $|-1\rangle$ in the result of tunneling on the basis of studies of the time dependence of the mean value of z-component of spin-1 on the quantum device. The energy level splitting is observed quantifying on the IBM's quantum computer the eigenvalues of Hamiltonian which describes the spin tunneling.

Solid-State Quantum Computer Based on Scanning Tunneling Microscopy

We propose a solid-state nuclear spin quantum computer based on application of scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and well-developed silicon technology. It requires the measurement of tunneling current modulation caused by the Larmor precession of a single electron spin. Our envisioned STM quantum computer would operate at the high magnetic field ($\sim 10$T) and at low temperature $\sim 1$K.

Experimental simulation of quantum tunneling in small systems

It is well known that quantum computers are superior to classical computers in efficiently simulating quantum systems. Here we report the first experimental simulation of quantum tunneling through potential barriers, a widespread phenomenon of a unique quantum nature, via NMR techniques. Quantum spin tunneling in a soluble quasi-spin model: An angle-based potential description

We propose an approach which allows to construct and use a potential function written in terms of an angle variable to describe interacting spin systems. We show how this can be implemented in the Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick, here considered a paradigmatic spin model. It is shown how some features of the energy gap can be interpreted in terms of a spin tunneling. Quantum description of spin tunneling in magnetic molecules: a new view

Starting from a phenomenological Hamiltonian originally written in terms of angular momentum operators we derive a new quantum angle-based Hamiltonian that allows for a discussion on the quantum spin tunneling. Spin tunneling in magnetic molecules: Quantitative estimates for Fe8 clusters

Spin tunneling in the particular case of the magnetic molecular cluster octanuclear iron(III), Fe8, is treated by an effective Hamiltonian that allows for an angle-based description of the process. Spin dynamics in tunneling decay of a metastable state

We analyze spin dynamics in the tunneling decay of a metastable localized state in the presence of spin-orbit coupling. We find that the spin polarization at short time scales is affected by the initial state while at long time scales both the probability- and the spin density exhibit diffraction-in-time phenomenon. We find that in addition to the tunneling time the tunneling in general can be characterized by a new parameter, the tunneling length. Although the tunneling length is independent on the spin-orbit coupling, it can be accessed by the spin rotation measurement.

Spin rotation by resonant electric field in few-level quantum dots: Floquet dynamics and tunneling

We study electric dipole spin resonance caused by sub-terahertz (THz) radiation in a multilevel finite-size quantum dot formed in a nanowire focusing on the range of driving electric fields amplitudes where a strong interplay between the Rabi spin oscillations and tunneling from the dot to continuum states can occur. Introducing Spin in 2D Quantum Tunneling

We study the quantum tunneling of non-relativistic electrons for two dimensional condensed matter systems. We employ the Levy-Leblond equation (which is the analogue of the Dirac equation for non-relativistic fermions) and show that the spin of the particle can be incorporated in the 2D tunneling problem. We derive the transmission and reflection coefficients of spin up and down electrons and show that the sum of these coefficients are consistent with the known results for gapless semiconductors.

Macroscopic Klein Tunneling in spin-orbit coupled Bose-Einstein Condensates

We propose an experimental scheme to detect macroscopic Klein tunneling with spin-orbit coupled Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs). We show that a nonlinear Dirac equation with tunable parameters can be realized with such BECs. %in a simple configuration to generate the artificial spin-orbit coupling. Inducing spin-dependent tunneling to probe magnetic correlations in optical lattices

We suggest a simple experimental method for probing antiferromagnetic spin correlations of two-component Fermi gases in optical lattices. The method relies on a spin selective Raman transition to excite atoms of one spin species to their first excited vibrational mode where the tunneling is large. Schrodinger cat animated on a quantum computer

We present a quantum algorithm which allows to simulate chaos-assisted tunneling in deep semiclassical regime on existing quantum computers. This opens new possibilities for investigation of macroscopic quantum tunneling and realization of semiclassical Schrödinger cat oscillations. Our numerical studies determine the decoherence rate induced by noisy gates for these oscillations and propose a suitable parameter regime for their experimental implementation.

Effect of Aharonov-Bohm Phase on Spin Tunneling

The role of Aharonov-Bohm effect in quantum tunneling is examined when a potential is defined on the $S^1$ and has $N$-fold symmetry. We show that the low-lying energy levels split from the $N$-fold degenerate ground state oscillate as a function of the Aharonov-Bohm phase, from which general degeneracy conditions depending on the magnetic flux is obtained. We apply these results to the spin tunneling in a spin system with $N$-fold rotational symmetry around a hard axis.

Dynamical suppression of tunneling and spin switching of a spin-orbit-coupled atom in a double-well trap

We predict wide-band suppression of tunneling of spin-orbit-coupled atoms (or noninteracting Bose-Einstein condensate) in a double-well potential with periodically varying depths of the potential wells. The suppression of tunneling is possible for a single state and for superposition of two states, i.e. for a qbit. Quantized relativistic time-of-arrival operators for spin-0 particles and the quantum tunneling time problem

We provide a full account of our recent report (EPL, 141 (2023) 10001}) which constructed a quantized relativistic time-of-arrival operator for spin-0 particles using a modified Weyl-ordering rule to calculate the traversal time across a square barrier. It was shown that the tunneling time of a relativistic spin-0 particle is instantaneous under the condition that the barrier height $V_o$ is less than the rest mass energy. This implies that instantaneous tunneling is an inherent quantum effect in the context of arrival times.
