Using the self-analyzing decay of the $Λ$, the longitudinal spin transfer $D_{LL'}$ to the hyperon from a polarized electron beam scattering off an unpolarized proton target can be determined. For $Λ$s produced in the current fragmentation region, this quantity is proportional to the helicity dependent fragmentation function $G_1^Λ$ and can provide insight into the spin structure of the $Λ$. Currently, limited experimental data on $D_{LL'}$ cannot discriminate between different models of $Λ$ spin structure. This contribution reports on the status of the ongoing analysis of the longitudinal spin transfer using data taken by the CLAS12 spectrometer at Jefferson Lab with a 10.6 GeV polarized electron beam. We also report on the novel use of Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) to identify signal events.
The longitudinal or transverse spin transfer to Lambda and anti-Lambda hyperons in polarized proton-proton collisions is expected to be sensitive to the helicity or transversity distributions of strange and anti-strange quarks of the proton, and to the corresponding polarized fragmentation function. We report the first measurement of the transverse spin transfer to $Λ$ and $\bar Λ$ along the polarization direction of the fragmenting quark, $D_{TT}$, in transversely polarized proton-proton collisions at 200 GeV with the STAR experiment at RHIC. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of…
We make a systematic study of $Λ$ hyperon polarizations in unpolarized lepton induced semi-inclusive reactions such as $e^-N\to e^-ΛX$ and $e^+e^-\toΛh X$. We present the general form of cross sections in terms of structure functions obtained from a general kinematic analysis. This already shows that the produced hyperons can be polarized in three orthogonal directions, i.e., the longitudinal direction along the hyperon momentum, the normal direction of the production plane, and the transverse direction in the production plane. We present the parton model results at the leading twist and leadi…

We perform a systematic study of the spin polarization of hyperons in heavy-ion collisions using the MUSIC hydrodynamic model with A Multi-Phase Transport (AMPT) pre-equilibrium dynamics. Our model calculations nicely describe the measured collision-energy, centrality, rapidity, and $p_T$ dependence of $Λ$ polarization. We also study and predict the global spin polarization of $Ξ^-$ and $Ω^-$ as a function of collision energy, which provides a baseline for the studies of the magnetic moment, spin, and mass dependence of the spin polarization. For the local spin polarization, we calculate the r…

We present a systematic study of $Λ$ hyperon's polarization observables using event-by-event (3+1)D relativistic hydrodynamics. The effects of initial hot spot size and QGP's specific shear viscosity on the polarization observables are quantified. We examine the effects of the two formulations of the thermal shear tensor on the polarization observables using the same hydrodynamic background. With event-by-event simulations, we make predictions for the Fourier coefficients of $Λ$'s longitudinal polarization $P^z$ with respect to the event planes of different orders of anisotropic flow. We propo…
We study the directed flow of identified particles in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_\text{NN}}=7.7$ to 62.4 GeV. The Glauber model is extended to include both a tilted deformation of the QGP fireball with respect to the longitudinal direction and a non-zero longitudinal flow velocity gradient in the initial state. By combining this improved initial condition with a (3+1)-dimensional viscous hydrodynamic model calculation, we obtain a satisfactory description of the transverse momentum spectra and the rapidity dependent directed flow coefficient of different hadron species. Our calculation indic…
