At the present time, there are hints of new physics (NP) in several observables involving $b \to c \ell^- {\barν}_\ell$ decays. In this talk, I describe measurable angular distributions for ${\bar B} \to D^* μ^- {\barν}_μ$ and ${\bar B} \to D^* τ^- (\to π^- ν_τ) {\barν}_τ$ decays, including the most general NP contributions. These angular distributions contain enough information to pin down the Lorentz structure of the NP, which will help to identify it. They also have the ability to reveal the presence of non-SMEFT (non-decoupling) NP.
A sensitivity study of the unbinned angular analysis of the $B\to D^*(Dπ)\ell ν_\ell$ decay is presented. In the analysis, it is shown that the Wilson coefficient of the right-handed vector current, $C_{V_R}$, can be measured to precision of 2-4$\%$ using either the full set of normalised angular observables or the forward-backward asymmetry $A_{FB}$ of the charged lepton in 10 $w$ bins. Such angular measurements are independent of the $V_{cb}$ puzzle.
We investigate the rare electroweak penguin transition $b \to s \ell^+ \ell^-$ though angular analyses in baryonic $b$-decays. Instead of performing likelihood fits, that might suffer from ambiguity issues, we employ the moments technique, which is a simple counting experiment. The method is known to be robust under low statistics conditions and avoids the ambiguity problem by construction. We provide the full set of 32 orthonormal moments for $Λ^0_b\to p h^-\ell^+\ell^-$, where $h\in\{π,K\}$, for a polarized $Λ^0_b$ and the dihadron system $[ph]$ being in a spin-1/2 state.

The flavor changing rare decay $B\to K^{*}(\to Kπ)\ell^+\ell^-$ is one of the most studied modes due to its sensitivity to physics beyond the standard model and several discrepancies have come to light among the plethora of observables that are measured. In this paper we revisit the analogous baryonic decay mode $Λ_{b}\rightarrow Λ(\to pπ) \ell^{+}\ell^{-}$ and we present a complete set of ten angular observables that can be measured using this decay mode. Our calculations are done retaining the finite lepton mass so that the signal of lepton non-universality observed in $B\to K^{*} \ell^+\ell…
Rare $b \to s\ell^+\ell^-$ flavour-changing-neutral-current processes provide important tests of the Standard Model of particle physics. Angular observables in exclusive $b \to s\ell^+\ell^-$ processes can be particularly powerful as they allow hadronic uncertainties to be controlled. Amongst the exclusive processes that have been studied by experiments, the decay $Λ_b\to Λ\ell^+\ell^-$ is unique in that the $Λ_b$ baryon can be produced polarised. In this paper, we derive an expression for the angular distribution of the $Λ_b\to Λ\ell^+\ell^-$ decay for the case where the $Λ_b$ baryon is produ…
We present the fully general, model independent study of a few rare semileptonic $B$ decays that get dominant contributions from $W$-annihilation and $W$-exchange diagrams, in particular $B^0 \to \bar{D}^0 \ell^+\ell^-$, where $\ell = e,μ$. We consider the most general Lagrangian for the decay, and define three angular asymmetries in the Gottfried-Jackson frame, which are sensitive to new physics. We show how these angular asymmetries can be easily extracted from the distribution of events in the Dalitz plot for $B \to D \ell^+ \ell^-$ decays. Especially a non-zero forward-backward asymmetry w…
We generalise the Jacob-Wick helicity formalism, which applies to sequential decays, to effective field theories of rare decays of the type $B \to K_{J_K}(\to K π) \bar{\ell}_1 \ell_2$. This is achieved by reinterpreting local interaction vertices $\bar b Γ'_{μ_1 ..μ_n} s \bar \ell Γ^{μ_1 ..μ_n} \ell$ as a coherent sum of $1 \to 2$ processes mediated by particles whose spin ranges between zero and $n$. We illustrate the framework by deriving the full angular distributions for $B \to K\bar{\ell}_1 \ell_2$ and $B \to K^*(\to K π) \bar{\ell}_1 \ell_2$ for the complete dimension-six effective Hami…
This paper describes the angular distribution of $Λ_b^0\to Λ(\to pK^-)\ell^+\ell^-$ decays. A full expression is given for the case of multiple interfering spin-states with spin $\leq \tfrac{5}{2}$. This distribution is relevant for future measurements of $Λ_b^0\to pK^-\ell^+\ell^-$ decays, where different states cannot easily be separated based on their mass alone. New observables arise when considering spin-$\tfrac{5}{2}$ states as well as interference between states. An exploration of their behaviour for a variety of beyond the Standard Model scenarios shows that some of these observables e…
We provide a determination of the complete angular distribution for the four body rare decay $Λ_b \to Λ(\to N π) \ell^+\ell^-$, with unpolarized $Λ_b$ baryons and massive leptons, in the operator basis approach which includes the scalar, pseudo-scalar, vector, axial-vector and tensor operators. Especially, the contributions of tensor operators have been calculated for the first time in this work. Since the lepton mass is retained in our calculations, the lepton flavour universality and the decay mode $Λ_b \to Λ(\to N π) τ^+τ^-$ can be investigated in detail. For comparison with the experiment,…
At the LHC, dileptonic events may turn up new physics interacting with quarks and leptons. The poster child for this scenario is a resonant $Z'$, much anticipated in $\ell^+ \ell^-$ invariant mass spectra. However, angular spectra of dileptons may play an equal or stronger role in discovering a non-resonant species. This paper avails of their LHC measurements to corner the couplings and masses of leptoquarks (LQs), that can mediate $q \bar{q} \rightarrow \ell^+ \ell^-$ in the $t$-channel and dramatically alter Standard Model angular spectra. Also derived are constraints from alterations to $m_…
In this article, we perform a sensitivity study of an unbinned angular analysis of the $B\to D^*\ell ν_\ell$ decay, including the contributions from the right-handed current. We show that the angular observable can constrain very strongly the right-handed current without the intervention of the yet unsolved $V_{cb}$ puzzle.
In a bottom-up approach we investigate lepton-flavour violating processes $τ\to 3 \ell$ that are mediated by New Physics encoded in effective-theory operators of dimension six. While the opportunity to scrutinize the underlying operator structure has been investigated before, we explore the benefits of utilising the polarization direction of the initial $τ$ lepton and the angular distribution of the decay. Given the rarity of these events (if observed at all), we focus on integrated observables rather than spectra, such as partial rates and asymmetries. In an effort to estimate the number of e…
We consider the time-dependent analysis of $B_d\to K_S\ell\ell$ taking into account the time-evolution of the $B_d$ meson and its mixing into $\bar{B}_d$. We discuss the angular conventions required to define the angular observables in a transparent way with respect to CP conjugation. The inclusion of time evolution allows us to identify six new observables, out of which three could be accessed from a time-dependent tagged analysis. We also show that these observables could be obtained by time-integrated measurements in a hadronic environment if flavour tagging is available. We provide simple …
We re-examine higgsino pair production in association with a hard QCD jet at the LHC. We focus on \ell^+\ell^- +MET +jet events from the production and subsequent decay, \tchi_2^0\to\tchi_1^0\ell^+\ell^-, of the heavier neutral higgsino. The novel feature of our analysis is that we propose angular cuts to reduce the irreducible background from Z(-> τ\barτ)+jet events more efficiently than the m_{ττ}^2<0 cut that has been used by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations. Additional cuts, needed to reduce backgrounds from t\bar{t}, WWj and W/Z+\ell\bar{\ell} production, are also delineated. We evaluate …

In view of the importance of the nonperturbative resolved contributions for the overall uncertainties of the two inclusive penguin decays $\bar B \to X_s γ$ and $\bar B \to X_{s,d} \ell^+\ell^-$ we reanalyse these contributions using new estimates of moments of the subleading shape functions and of other input parameters. Within a systematic approach we find a significant reduction of the nonperturbative uncertainties in the inclusive decay $\bar B \to X_{s,d} \ell^+\ell^-$, but a much less pronounced reduction in the inclusive decay $\bar B \to X_s γ$ compared to a recent analysis on the reso…
In anticipation of abundant $B^*$ data samples at high-luminosity heavy-flavor experiments in the future, the tree-dominated semileptonic $\bar{B}^*_{u,d,s} \to P \ell^- \barν_\ell$ $(P=D\,,D_s\,,π\,,K)$ decays are studied within the Standard Model. After a detailed calculation of the helicity amplitudes, the theoretical predictions for branching fraction~(decay rate), lepton spin asymmetry, forward-backward asymmetry and ratio $R_D^{\ast(L)}$ are firstly presented. It is found that the CKM-favored $\bar{B}^* \to D \ell^- \barν_\ell$ decays have relatively large branching fractions of ${\cal O…
Testing axial and electromagnetic nucleon form factors in time-like regions in the processes $\bar p + n\to π^- +\ell^-+\ell^+$ and $\bar p+ p\to π^0 +\ell^- + \ell^+$, $\ell=e$, $μ$
Using the helicity amplitude technique, we derive differential decay widths and angular distributions for the decay cascade $D\to K_{1}(1270,1400)\ell^+ν_{\ell}\to (Kππ)\ell^+ν_{\ell} (\ell=e,μ)$, in which the electron and muon mass is explicitly included. Using a set of phenomenological results for $D\to K_1$ form factors, we calculate partial decay widths and branching fractions for $D^0\to K_1^-\ell^+ν_{\ell}$ and $D^+\to K_1^0\ell^+ν_{\ell}$, but find that results for ${\cal B}(D\to K_1(1270)e^+ν_{e})$ are larger than recent BESIII measurements by about a factor 1.5. We further demonstrate…
Exclusive semileptonic decays based on $b\to s$ transitions have been attracting a lot of attention as some angular observables deviate significantly from the Standard Model (SM) predictions in specific $q^2$ bins. B meson decays induced by other Flavor Changing Neutral Current (FCNC), $b\to d$, can also offer a probe to new physics with an additional sensitivity to the weak phase in Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Masakawa (CKM) matrix. We provide predictions for angular observables for $b\to d$ semileptonic transitions, namely $\bar{B}_s\to K^{\ast}\ell^+\ell^-$, $\bar{B}^0\toρ^0 \ell^+\ell^-$, and their …
Motivated by the first search for the rare charged-current $B$ decay to four leptons, $\ell \barν_\ell \ell^{(\prime)} \bar{\ell}^{(\prime)}$, we calculate the decay amplitude with factorization methods. We obtain the $B\to γ^*$ form factors, which depend on the invariant masses of the two lepton pairs, at leading power in an expansion in $Λ_{\rm QCD}/m_b$ to next-to-leading order in $α_s$, and at $\mathcal{O}(α_s^0)$ at next-to-leading power. Our calculations predict branching fractions of a few times $10^{-8}$ in the $\ell^{(\prime)} \bar{\ell}^{(\prime)}$ mass-squared bin up to $q^2=1~\text…
The significant divergence between the SM predictions and experimental measurements for the ratios, $R_{D^{(*)}}\equiv \mathcal{B}(\bar{B}\to D^{(*)}τ^- \barν_τ)/ \mathcal{B}(\bar{B}\to D^{(*)} \ell^{\prime-} \barν_{\ell^{\prime}})$ with $(\ell^{\prime}=e\,,μ)$, implies possible hint of new physics in the flavour sector. In this paper, motivated by the "$R_{D^{(*)}}$ puzzle" and abundant $B^*$ data samples at high-luminosity heavy-flavor experiments in the future, we try to probe possible effects of new physics in the semileptonic $\bar{B}^*_{u,d,s} \to P \ell^- \barν_\ell$ $(P=D\,,D_s\,,π\,,K…
Using the massive helicity formalism we calculate the five-body average square amplitude of the decays $τ^{-}\to \ell_i^{-} \ell_i^{+} \ell_j^{-} \barν_{j} ν_τ$ $(\ell=e,\,μ)$ within the Standard Model (SM), we then introduce a dimension-five effective vertex $Γ^{ττγ}$ in order to determine the feasibility of imposing limits on the tau anomalous magnetic dipole moment ($a_τ$) via the current or future experimental measurements of the branching ratio for the decay $τ^{-}\to e^{-} e^{+} e^{-} \barν_{e} ν_τ$.
We apply the formalism of amplitude symmetries to the angular distribution of the decays $B \to D^* \ell ν$ for $\ell=e,μ,τ$. We show that the angular observables used to describe the distribution of this class of decays are not independent in absence of New Physics contributing to tensor operators. We derive sets of relations among the angular coefficients of the decay distribution for the massless and massive lepton cases which can be used to probe in a very general way the consistency among the angular observables and the underlying New Physics at work. We use these relations to access the …
We compare the decay of a Higgs boson $H^0(0^+)\to\ell\bar\ell \ell\bar\ell\toγγ$, $H^0(0^+)\to W\bar W\to \ell\barν\bar\ellν$, and $H^0(0^+)\to Z\bar Z\to\ell\bar\ell\ell\bar\ell$ using Cartan's supersymmetry, that defines coupling of a vector particle $x_i$ and Dirac spinors $ψ$ and $ϕ$. Apparent discrepancy of $H^0(0^+)\toγγ/\ell\bar\ell \ell\bar\ell$ experimental data of ATLAS and CMS collaborations disappears, since the sum of transition to $\ell\bar\ell \ell\bar\ell$ and $γγ$ have the meaning. The trilinearity of leptons vector fields coupling and the initial wave functions to be large c…
New possibility for further measurements of nucleon form factors at large momentum transfer in time-like region: $\bar{p}+{p}\to \ell^+ +\ell^-$, $\ell=e$ or $μ$
These proceedings review the differential decay rates and the branching ratios of the tau and muon decays $τ\to \ell \ell' \ell' ν\barν$ (with $\ell,\ell'=μ,e$) and $μ\to e e e ν\bar ν$ in the Standard Model at NLO. These five-body leptonic decays are a tool to study the Lorentz structure of weak interactions and to test lepton flavour universality. They are also a source of SM background to searches for the lepton-flavour-violating decays $μ\to e e e$ and $τ\to \ell \ell' \ell'$. Even if the shift in the branching ratios induced by radiative corrections turns out to be small and of order 1% -…
We study the semileptonic decay $\bar{B}_s \to K^{*+} \ell^-\barν_\ell$, which is induced by $b\to u \ell^- \barν_\ell$ transitions at the quark level. We take into account the standard model (SM) operator from $W$-boson exchange as well as possible extensions from physics beyond the SM. The secondary decay $K^{*+}\to Kπ$ can be used to study a number of angular observables, which are worked out in terms of short-distance Wilson coefficients and hadronic form factors. Our analysis allows for an independent extraction of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element $|V_{ub}|$ and for the determ…
As an update to our previous calculation for spin $J\leq2$, we present the angular moments for exclusive $\overline{B} \to X_J \ell_1 \ell_2$, where $\ell_1$ is a charged massless lepton and $\ell_2$ is a charged or neutral massless lepton, and $X_J$ is a mesonic system with spin $J\leq4$. The expected applications include higher resonances in the $[Kπ]$ system in $\overline{B}^0 \to K^- π^+ μ^- μ^+$ at LHCb in Run~II, and in the $[ππ]$ system for $ \overline{B} \to ππ\ell^- \barν_\ell$ at Belle~II. For the $J\leq2$ case, we also provide a set of consistency relations among the measured moment…
We calculate the differential branching fraction, lepton forward-backward asymmetry and direct CP asymmetry for $B_{d,s}\toγ\ell\bar{\ell}$ decays with an energetic photon. We employ factorization methods, which result in rigorous next-to-leading order predictions in the strong coupling at leading power in the large-energy/heavy-quark expansion, together with estimates of power corrections and a resonance parameterization of sub-leading power form factors in the region of small lepton invariant mass $q^2$. The $B_{d,s}\toγ\ell\bar{\ell}$ decay shares features of the charged-current decay $B_u …
We study the effects of the identical leptons in the final state of the $B^+\to \ell^+ \ell^- \ell^+\barν_{\ell}$ decay. The amplitude of the process is described by the same form factors as the amplitude of the ${B\to \ell \ell \ell'\barν'_{\ell}}$ decay for non-identical leptons in the final state. However, the differential distributions are strongly different, as the ${B^+\to \ell^+ \ell^- \ell^+\barν_{\ell}}$ amplitude contains both the direct ($M_a$) and the exchange ($M_b$) diagrams. We calculate a number of the differential distirbutions. In particular, we propose an interesting observa…
The associated production of a Higgs boson and a top-quark pair, $t{\bar t} H$, in proton-proton collisions is addressed in this paper for a center of mass energy of 13TeV at the LHC. Dileptonic final states of $t{\bar t}H$ events with two oppositely charged leptons and four jets from the decays $t\rightarrow bW^+ \rightarrow b \ell^+ν_\ell$, $\bar{t}\rightarrow \bar{b}W^- \rightarrow \bar{b} \ell^-\barν_\ell$ and $h\rightarrow b\bar{b}$, are used. Signal events, generated with MadGraph5_aMC@NLO, are fully reconstructed by applying a kinematic fit. New angular distributions of the decay produc…
The observation of anomalies in the charged current $b\rightarrow c\bar{\ell}ν_{\ell}$ transitions hints the possibility of the existence of new physics beyond the standard model. Inspired by the work done in the beauty quark sector, we explore new physics in the charm quark sector with $c \rightarrow (s,d)\bar{\ell}ν_{\ell}$ charged current transitions. We analyze the decay modes $D_{(s)}^+ \to η^{(')} \bar{\ell} ν_{\ell}$ within an effective Lagrangian framework which includes both standard model and new physics contributions. We use the available experimental measurements of the semileptoni…
In this paper we investigate the next-to-leading power contribution to the $B_s \to γγ$ and $B_s \to γ\ell\bar{\ell}$ decays from the strange quark mass effect with the dispersion approach which is QCD inspired and more predictive. We have presented the analytic expression of the quark mass contribution in the $B_s \to γγ$ and $B_s \to γ\ell\bar{\ell}$ decays, together with a new term that is missed in the previous study. The numerical results of the strange quark mass contribution to the $B_s \to γγ$ decay is about 6% relative to the total branching ratio, while it is relatively small in the …
We discuss the consequences of deviations from the Standard Model observed in $b\to sμ^+μ^-$ transitions for flavour-changing neutral-current processes involving down-type quarks and neutrinos. We work within an effective field theory approach respecting the SM gauge symmetry, including right-handed currents, a flavour structure based on approximate U(2) symmetry, and assuming only SM-like light neutrinos. We discuss correlations among $B\to h_sν\barν$ ($h_s=K,K^*,X_s$), $K^+\toπ^+ν\barν$ and $K_L\toπ^0ν\barν$ branching ratios in the case of linear Minimal Flavour Violation and in a more gener…
Motivated by the fact that naturalness arguments strongly suggest that the SUSY-preserving higgsino mass parameter mu cannot be too far above the weak scale, we re-examine higgsino pair production in association with a hard QCD jet at the HL-LHC. We focus on \ell^+\ell^-+\eslt+j events from the production and subsequent decay, \tchi_2^0\to\tchi_1^0\ell^+\ell^-, of the heavier neutral higgsino. The novel feature of our analysis is that we suggest angular cuts to reduce the important background from Z(\to ττ)+j events more efficiently than the m_{ττ}^2<0 cut that has been used by the ATLAS and C…
