The operator space entanglement entropy, or simply 'operator entanglement' (OE), is an indicator of the complexity of quantum operators and of their approximability by Matrix Product Operators (MPO). We study the OE of the density matrix of 1D many-body models undergoing dissipative evolution. It is expected that, after an initial linear growth reminiscent of unitary quench dynamics, the OE should be suppressed by dissipative processes as the system evolves to a simple stationary state. Surprisingly, we find that this scenario breaks down for one of the most fundamental dissipative mechanisms: dephasing. Under dephasing, after the initial 'rise and fall' the OE can rise again, increasing logarithmically at long times. Using a combination of MPO simulations for chains of infinite length and analytical arguments valid for strong dephasing, we demonstrate that this growth is inherent to a $U(1)$ conservation law. We argue that in an XXZ spin-model and a Bose-Hubbard model the OE grows universally as $\frac{1}{4} \log_2 t$ at long times, and as $\frac{1}{2} \log_2 t$ for a Fermi-Hubbard model. We trace this behavior back to anomalous classical diffusion processes.
Interacting quantum systems evolving from an uncorrelated composite initial state generically develop quantum correlations -- entanglement. As a consequence, a local description of interacting quantum system is impossible as a rule. A unitarily evolving (isolated) quantum system generically develops extensive entanglement: the magnitude of the generated entanglement will increase without bounds with the effective Hilbert space dimension of the system. It is conceivable, that coupling of the interacting subsystems to local dephasing environments will restrict the generation of entanglement to s…
Stimulated Raman adiabatic passage is a well-known technique for quantum population transfer due to its robustness again various sources of noises. Here we consider quantum population transfer from one spin to another via an intermediate spin which subjects to dephasing noise. We obtain an analytic expression for the transfer efficiency under a specific driving protocol, showing that dephasing could reduce the transfer efficiency, but the effect of dephasing could also be suppressed with a stronger laser coupling or a longer laser duration. We also consider another commonly used driving protoc…
We investigate the scheme for controlling information characterized by Von-Neumann entropy and the stationary state entanglement characterized by concurrence of two solid state qubits in the collective dephasing channel. It is shown that the local maximal value of the stationary state concurrence always corresponds to the local minimal value of information. We also propose a scheme for remotely controlling the entanglement of two solid state qubits against the collective dephasing. This idea may open a door to remotely suppress the detrimental effects of decoherence.
The Heisenberg limit is the superior precision available by entanglement sensors. However, entanglementis fragile against dephasing, and there is no known quantum metrology protocol that can achieve Heisenberg limited sensitivity with the presence of independent dephasing. Here, we show that the Heisenberg limit is attainable under the effect of independent dephasing under conditions where the probe qubits decohere due to both target fields and local environments. To detect the target fields, we exploit the entanglement properties to decay much faster than the classical states due to collectiv…
By starting from the stochastic Hamiltonian of the three correlated spins and modeling their frequency fluctuations as caused by dephasing noisy environments described by Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes, we study the dynamics of quantum correlations, including entanglement and quantum discord. We prepared initially our open system with Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger or W state and present the exact solutions for evolution dynamics of entanglement and quantum discord between three spins under both Markovian and non-Markovian regime of this classical noise. By comparison the dynamics of entanglement w…
The goal of quantum metrology is the precise estimation of parameters using quantum properties such as entanglement. This estimation usually consists of three steps: state preparation, time evolution during which information of the parameters is encoded in the state, and readout of the state. Decoherence during the time evolution typically degrades the performance of quantum metrology and is considered to be one of the major obstacles to realizing entanglement-enhanced sensing. We show, however, that under suitable conditions, this decoherence can be exploited to improve the sensitivity. Assum…

The quantum remote sensing (QRS) is a scheme to add security about the measurement results of a qubit-based sensor. A client delegates a measurement task to a remote server that has a quantum sensor, and eavesdropper (Eve) steals every classical information stored in the server side. By using quantum properties, the QRS provides an asymmetricity about the information gain where the client gets more information about the sensing results than Eve. However, quantum states are fragile against decoherence, and so it is not clear whether such a QRS is practically useful under the effect of realistic…
We show that dissipative quantum state preparation processes can be protected against qubit dephasing by interlacing the state preparation control with dynamical decoupling (DD) control consisting of a sequence of short $π$-pulses. The inhomogeneous broadening can be suppressed to second order of the pulse interval, and the protection efficiency is nearly independent of the pulse sequence but determined by the average interval between pulses. The DD protection is numerically tested and found to be efficient against inhomogeneous dephasing on two exemplary dissipative state preparation schemes …
We investigate the robustness of multiparty nonlocality under local decoherence, acting independently and equally on each subsystems. To be specific, we consider an N-qubit GHZ state under depolarization, dephasing, or dissipation channel, and tested the nonlocality by violation of Mermin-Klyshko inequality, which is one of Bell's inequalities for multi-qubit systems. The results show that the robustness of nonlocality increases with the number of qubits, and that the nonlocality of an N-qubit GHZ state with even N is extremely persistent against dephasing.
In this work, we study a bipartite system composed by a pair of entangled qudits coupled to an environment. Initially, we derive a master equation and show how the dynamics can be restricted to a "diagonal" sector that includes a maximally entangled state (MES). Next, we solve this equation for mixed qutrit pairs and analyze the $I$-concurrence $C(t)$ for the effective state, which is needed to compute the geometric phase when the initial state is pure. Unlike (locally operated) isolated systems, the coupled system leads to a nontrivial time-dependence, with $C(t)$ generally decaying to zero a…

In this paper we evaluate the performance of two superadiabatic stimulated Raman adiabatic passage (STIRAP) protocols derived from Gaussian and sin-cos pulses, under dissipation and Ornstein-Uhlenbeck noise in the energy levels. We find that for small amplitudes of Stokes and pump pulses, the population transfer is mainly achieved directly through the counterdiabatic pulse, while for large amplitudes the conventional STIRAP path dominates. This kind of "hedging" leads to a remarkable robustness against dissipation in the lossy intermediate state. For small pulse amplitudes and increasing noise…
In this paper we study how to preserve entanglement and nonlocality under dephasing produced by classical noise with large low-frequency components, as $1/f$ noise, by Dynamical Decoupling techniques. We first show that quantifiers of entanglement and nonlocality satisfy a closed relation valid for two independent qubits locally coupled to a generic environment under pure dephasing and starting from a general class of initial states. This result allows to assess the efficiency of pulse-based dynamical decoupling for protecting nonlocal quantum correlations between two qubits subject to pure-de…
