Based on the three-fluid model, the global $Λ$ polarization in Au+Au collisions at 2.4 $\leq\sqrt{s_{NN}}\leq$ 7.7 GeV is calculated, including its rapidity and centrality dependence. Contributions from the thermal vorticity and meson-field term (proposed by Csernai, Kapusta and Welle) to the global polarization are considered. The results are compared with data from recent and ongoing STAR and HADES experiments. It is predicted that the polarization maximum is reached at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}\approx$ 3 GeV, if the measurements are performed with the same acceptance. The value of the polarization is very sensitive to interplay of the aforementioned contributions. In particular, the thermal vorticity results in quite strong increase of the polarization from the midrapidity to forward/backward rapidities, while the meson-field contribution considerably flattens the rapidity dependence. The polarization turns out to be very sensitive to details of the equation of state. While collision dynamics become less equilibrium with decreasing collision energy, the present approach to polarization is based on the assumption of thermal equilibrium. It is found that equilibrium is achieved at the freeze-out stage, but this equilibration takes longer at moderately relativistic energies.
The recent exclusive backward-angle electroproduction of omega from Jefferson Lab Hall C electron-proton fixed-target scattering experiments above the resonance region hints at a new domain of applicability of QCD factorization in a unique u-channel kinematics regime. Thanks to this effort, the interest in studying nucleon structure through u-channel meson production observables has grown significantly. In the fixed target configuration, the u-channel meson electroproduction observables feature a unique interaction picture: the target proton absorbs nearly all momentum induced by virtual photo…
In preparation for the extraction of pseudoscalar meson photo-production amplitudes from a new generation of complete experiments, we assemble the relations between experimental observables and the Chew-Goldberger-Low-Nambu amplitudes. We present expressions that allow the direct calculation of matrix elements with arbitrary spin projections and uses these to clarify sign differences that exist in the literature. Comparing to the MAID and SAID analysis codes, we have found that the implied definitions of six double-polarization observables are the negative of what has been used in comparing to…
An analysis of all possible polarization observables for the case of vector meson photoproduction from a nucleon target is presented. The question of which observables are needed to determine completely the basic photoproduction amplitudes and the relationships between spin observables are addressed.
A compilation of recently measured STAR data for elliptic flow ($v_{2}$) of $ϕ$ mesons in RHIC Beam Energy Scan program and comparison with a multiphase transport model (AMPT) has been presented. The experimental data at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ $\geq$ 19.6 GeV agrees well with string melting version of the AMPT model. The model includes partonic interactions and quark coalescence as a mechanism of hadronization. This indicates that there is a substantial contribution to collectivity from partonic interactions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ $\geq$ 19.6 GeV. The measured $ϕ$-meson $v_{2}$ at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 7.7 a…
We show that two nonets and a glueball provide a consistent description of data on scalar mesons below 1.7 GeV. Above 1 GeV the states form a conventional (q bar q) nonet mixed with the glueball of lattice QCD. Below 1 GeV the states also form a nonet, as implied by the attractive forces of QCD, but of more complicated nature. Near the center they are 4 quark states of the Jaffe type in S-wave, with some (q bar q) in P-wave, but further out they rearrange in colour to two colourless (q bar q) pairs and finally as meson-meson states. A simple effective chiral model for such a system with two sc…
The complete expression for the intensity in pseudo-scalar meson photoproduction with a polarized beam, target, and recoil baryon is derived using a density matrix approach that offers great economy of notation. A Cartesian basis with spins for all particles quantized along a single direction, the longitudinal beam direction, is used for consistency and clarity in interpretation. A single spin-quantization axis for all particles enables the amplitudes to be written in a manifestly covariant fashion with simple relations to those of the well-known CGLN formalism. Possible sign discrepancies bet…
We study the $p$-wave polarization operator of the $ρ$-meson due to $ρN$ interactions via the $N^*$ (1720) and $Δ(1905)$ resonances and compute the corresponding production rate for $e^+e^-$-pairs at finite temperature and baryon density. At high baryon density we find a significant shift of the spectrum to lower invariant masses.
With the PICR hydrodynamic model, we study the polarization splitting between $Λ$ and $\barΛ$ at RHIC BES energy range, based on the meson field mechanism. Our results fit to the experimental data fairly well. Besides, two unexpected effect emerges: (1) the baryon density gradient has non-trivial and negative contribution to the polarization splitting; (2) for 7.7 GeV Au+Au collisions within the centrality range of 20\%-50\%, the polarization splitting surprisingly increases with the centrality decreases. The second effect might help to explain the significant signal of polarization splitting …
In a transport model that combines initial state interactions of the photon with final state interactions of the produced particles we present a calculation of inclusive photoproduction of mesons in nuclei in the energy range from 1 to 7 GeV. We give predictions for the photoproduction cross sections of pions, etas, kaons, antikaons, and $π^+π^-$ invariant mass spectra in ^{12}C and ^{208}Pb. The effects of nuclear shadowing and final state interaction of the produced particles are discussed in detail.
The hypothesis of statistical production of J/psi mesons at hadronization is formulated and checked against experimental data. It explains in the natural way the observed scaling behavior of the J/psi to pion ratio at the CERN SPS energies. Using the multiplicities of J/psi and eta mesons the hadronization temperature T_H = 175 MeV is found, which agrees with the previous estimates of the temperature parameter based on the analysis of the hadron yield systematics.
This report describes the transitions pion -> meson_1 + meson_2 and also pion -> multi-pion for high energy pions interacting with target nuclei (Z,A). The physics interests are: A) Nuclear inelastic coherent diffraction cross sections for pions, for studies of size fluctuations in the pion wave function. B) Radiative widths of excited meson states, for tests of vector dominance and quark models. C) Experimental determination of the pi- + rho -> pi- + gamma total reaction rate for gamma production above 0.7 GeV, needed for background studies of quark-gluon plasma formation experiments. D) Inve…
For pseudoscalar meson electroproduction off the nucleon in parallel kinematics a relation between three polarization observables is derived. It is shown that, without Rosenbluth separation, a measurement of the longitudinal strength can be achieved through three different ways. They are discussed with preliminary MAMI data for the p(\vec e, e'\vec p)π^0 reaction in the energy range of the Delta(1232) resonance.
This study revisits the issue of the extraction of estimates for the masses and for the partial decay widths to two pions of the scalar-isoscalar $I^G\,(J^{PC}) = 0^+\,(0^{++})$ and vector-isovector $I^G\,(J^{PC}) = 1^+\,(1^{--})$ mesons below $2$ GeV, from the data contained in the recent compilation by the Particle Data Group.
The issue of resulting in the same physical observables with different current components, in particular from the minus current, has been challenging in the light-front quark model (LFQM) even for the computation of the two-point functions such as meson decay constants. At the level of one-body current matrix element computation, we show the uniqueness of pseudoscalar and vector meson decay constants using all available components including the minus component of the current in the LFQM consistent with the Bakamjian-Thomas construction. Regardless of the current components, the polarization ve…
We propose a new method for measuring longitudinal amplitudes for electroproduction of pseudoscalar mesons that exploits a symmetry relation for polarization observables in parallel kinematics. This polarization technique does not require variation of electron scattering kinematics and avoids the major sources of systematic errors in Rosenbluth separation.
We present the measurements related to global polarization of $Λ$ hyperons and spin alignment of $\mathrm{K^{*0}}~$ vector mesons at mid-rapidity for Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}~$= 2.76 TeV using the ALICE detector at the LHC. The global polarization measurements are carried out with respect to the first order event plane while the spin alignment measurements are carried out with respect to the production plane. No global polarization signal for $Λ$ is observed for 5-15\% and 15-50\% central Pb-Pb collisions. The spin density matrix element $ρ_{00}$ is found to have values slig…
In the present paper, we study the effect of the rotation on the masses of scalar meson as well as vector meson in the framework of 2-flavor Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. The existence of rotation causes a tedious quark propagator and corresponding polarization function. Applying the random phase approximation, the meson mass is calculated numerically. It is found that the behavior of scalar and pseudoscalar meson masses under the angular velocity $ω$ is similar to that at finite chemical potential, both rely on the behavior of constituent quark mass and reflect the property related to the chiral…
General expressions for the unpolarized differential cross section and for various polarization observables in the coherent pseudoscalar meson photo- and electroproduction on the deuteron target have been obtained in one-photon-exchange approximation. The spin structure of the matrix element is explicitly derived in terms of structure functions. The correspondence with the helicity amplitudes is given. The polarization effects have been investigated for the case of a longitudinally polarized electron beam and vector or tensor polarized deuteron target. The polarization (vector or tensor) of th…
In two meson photoproduction off a nucleon, for the case in which two of the three final state hadrons are products of the decay of an intermediate resonance, general expressions for its decay distribution and for polarization observables are derived in a model independent way. These are functions of either the spin density matrix elements (SDME's) or statistical tensors of the resonance, and the angles of its decay products. The expressions are general enough that it also describes cases where more than one resonance of arbitrary quantum numbers contributes, including interference effects. Th…
The polarization observables in phi meson photoproduction is studied to probe the strangeness content of the nucleon. In addition to the dominant diffractive production and the one-pion-exchange process, we take into account the direct knockout mechanism that arises from the possible hidden strangeness content of the nucleon. We find that some double polarization observables are very sensitive to the strangeness content of the proton because of the different spin structures of the amplitudes associated with different mechanisms. This suggests that such measurements could be very useful in prob…
Within the previously developed Dubna-Mainz-Taipei meson-exchange model, the singularity structure of the pi N scattering amplitudes has been investigated. For all partial waves up to F waves and c.m. energies up to W = 2 GeV, the T-matrix poles have been calculated by three different techniques: analytic continuation into the complex energy plane, speed-plot and the regularization method. For all 4-star resonances, we find a perfect agreement between the analytic continuation and the regularization method. We also find resonance poles for resonances that are not so well established, but in th…

We report the multiplicity dependence of charged particle productions for $π^{\pm}$, $K^{\pm}$, $p$, $\overline{p}$ and $ϕ$ meson at $|y| < 1.0$ in p+p collisions at $\sqrt{\rm s}$ = 200 GeV with $\rm PYTHIA$ simulation. The impact of parton multiple interactions and gluon contributions is studied and found to be possible sources of the particle yields splitting as a function of $p_T$ with respect to multiplicity. No obvious particle species dependence for the splitting is observed. The multiplicity dependence on ratios of $K^-/π^-$, $K^+/π^+$, $\overline{p}/π^-$, $p/π^+$ and $Λ/K^{0}_{s}$ in …
At zero-density, meson-nucleon vertex corrections to vacuum polarization are studied in the $σ-ω$ model with the cutoff. It is shown that the properties of the vertex corrections to vacuum polarization are somewhat different from those described by the ordinary renormalization procedures when the cutoff is small (< 5 GeV). The low-energy effective Lagrangian is constructed in the framework of the renormalization group method. The weak tensor and derivative couplings of meson-nucleon interactions may be needed in the low-energy effective theory of mesons and nucleons.
We systematically re-examine the extraction of the masses and couplings of the 1^{-+} hybrid, four-quark and molecule mesons from QCD spectral sum rules (QSSR). To NLO for the perturbative and power corrections, the hybrid mass is M_H=1.81(6) GeV and M_H < 2.2(2) GeV from the positivity of the spectral function. In the same way, but to LO, the four-quark state mass is M_{4q}= 1.70(4) GeV and M_{4q} < 2.4(1) GeV, while the molecule mass is about 1.3(1) GeV. The observed π_1(1400) and π_1(1600) might be explained by a two-component mixing with the set of input masses (1.2-1.3 ; 1.70-1.74) GeV an…

After a short review of the production mechanisms of the light scalars which reveal their nature and indicate their quark structure, we suggest to study the mixing of the isovector a^0_0(980) with the isoscalar f_0(980) in spin effects.
We present the first measurement of the nuclear modification factor $R_{AA}$ and elliptic flow $v_{2}$ of $D_{s}$ in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 GeV with the STAR detector. These results have been compared with those of other open charm mesons and strange mesons to determine how the (possibly) strangeness equilibrated partonic matter affects the $D_{s}$ meson production. We find that the nuclear modification factor of $D_{S}$ are systematically higher than unity and $D^{0}$ $R_{\rm{AA}}$. The ratio $D_{s}/D^{0}$ is shown as a function of transverse momentum for the 10-40$\%$ most…
Nucleon recoil polarization observables in $(e,e'\vec{p})$ reactions are investigated using a semi-relativistic distorted-wave model which includes one- and two-body currents with relativistic corrections. Results for the induced polarization asymmetry are shown for closed-shell nuclei and a comparison with available experimental data for $^{12}$C is provided. A careful analysis of meson exchange currents shows that they may affect significantly the induced polarization for high missing momentum.
I review a proposed pattern of the light scalar mesons with q\bar{q} mesons and glueball above 1 GeV and tetraquark mesoniums below 1 GeV. Several challenges and caveats of calculating these light scalar mesons with dynamical fermions are discussed.
Using a hadron-string cascade model LUCIAE, the $ϕ$ meson production in heavy ion collisions (Pb+Pb) and elementary collisions (p+p) were studied systematically. Within the framework of the model, the experimentally measured $ϕ$ enhancement in Pb+Pb over p+p collisions can be mostly explained by the collective effects in the gluon string emission and the reduction of the s-quark suppression.
We estimate the heavy quark effective theory parameter λ_1 from inclusive semileptonic B-meson decay spectrum. By using recent CLEO double lepton tagging data of B -> X e nu, which shows the lepton momentum as low as 0.6 GeV, we extracted λ_1 \sim -0.58 GeV^2. We also derived \barΛ\sim 0.46 GeV and |V_{cb}| = 0.041 \pm 0.002.
For the photoproduction of vector mesons, all single and double spin observables involving vector meson two-body decays are defined consistently in the $γN$ center of mass. These definitions yield a procedure for extracting physically meaningful single and double spin observables that are subject to known rules concerning their angle and energy evolution. As part of this analysis, we show that measuring the two-meson decay of a photoproduced $ρ$ or $ϕ$ does not determine the vector meson's vector polarization, but only its tensor polarization. The vector meson decay into lepton pairs is also i…
Polarization phenomena are essential for the understanding of elementary processes, and are typically large in the threshold region. The selection rules with respect to P-parity, angular momentum, isotopic spin and the Pauli principle allow to parametrize in a model independent way, the spin structure of the matrix elements for the near-threshold heavy meson production in NN-collisions in terms of a small number of partial amplitudes. Such parametrization is very powerful for the analysis of polarization phenomena and possible $t-$exchange mechanisms.
We present the measurements of the $ϕ$-meson production and elliptic flow ($v_{2}$) at mid-rapidity in Au + Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 7.7 - 200 GeV. The data are collected using the STAR detector in the years 2010 and 2011. The energy dependence of nuclear modification factor ($R_{\rm{CP}}$) of $ϕ$ meson is presented. The $ϕ$-meson $R_{\rm{CP}}$ has a value $\geq$ 1.0 for $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ $\leq$ 39 GeV. The $Ω/ϕ$ ratios are also presented and show a different trend at the intermediate transverse momentum ($p_{T}$) for $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 11.5 GeV compared to higher beam energies. The num…
In a boost-invariant hydrodynamic model, we have analyzed $ϕ$ meson production in Pb+Pb and Au+Au collisions, in the centre of mass energy range $\sqrt{s}$= 6-200 GeV. Hydrodynamic evolution is governed by a lattice based equation of state with a confinement-deconfinement {\em cross over} at $T_{co}$=196 MeV. We also look for the threshold energy above which the confined matter undergoes a deconfinement transition. Analysis indicate that above a threshold energy, ${\sqrt{s}}_{th}$=$13.65 \pm 3.06$ GeV, the fluid medium crosses over from a confined phase to a deconfined phase.
PHENIX and STAR data on the intercept parameter of the two-pion Bose-Einstein correlation functions in $\sqrt{s_{NN}}= 200$ GeV Au+Au collisions were analysed in terms of various models of hadronic abundances. To describe these data, an in-medium $η^\prime$ mass decrease of at least 200 MeV was needed in each case.
The dilepton production from $pC$ and $pCu$ collisions at $T_{lab}=12$ GeV is calculated using the semi-classical BUU transport model, that includes the off-shell propagation of vector mesons nonperturbatively and calculates the width of the vector mesons dynamically. It is found that the collisional broadening of the vector meson width and dropping vector meson masses lead to a small enhancement of the dilepton yield below the $ω$ meson mass pole in $p Cu$ collisions compared to $p C$, which is, however, not sufficient to explain the enhanced production of dileptons as observed in the experim…
The effect of meson and isobar degrees of freedom in A($\vec{e},e'\vec{p}$) and A(e,e'n) is studied for four-momentum transfers Q^2 in the range between 0.2 and 0.8 (GeV/c)^2. The calculations are performed in a non-relativistic framework with explicit (N,Δ,π) degrees-of-freedom. For the whole range of momentum transfers under investigation the relative effect of the meson-exchange and isobar degrees of freedom is significant. At low missing momenta and quasi-elastic conditions, a tendency to reduce the (e,e'p) and (e,e'n) differential cross sections is noticed. The greatest sensitivity is fou…
The diffractive $ϕ$-meson photoproduction amplitude is dominated by the Pomeron exchange process and contains the terms that govern the spin-spin and spin-orbital interactions. We show that these terms are responsible for the spin-flip transitions at forward photoproduction angles and appear in the angular distributions of $ϕ\to K^+K^-$ -decay in reactions with unpolarized and polarized photon beams. At large momentum transfers, the main contribution to the $ϕ$-meson photoproduction is found to be due to the excitation of nucleon resonances. Combined analysis of $ω$ and $ϕ$ photoproduction ind…
A meson-exchange piN model, previously constructed using three-dimensional reduction scheme of the Bethe-Salpeter equation for a model Lagrangian involving π, η, N, Δ, rho, and σfields, is extended to energies up to 2 GeV by including the ηN channel and all the four stars πN resonances up to the F-waves. The effects of other 2 pion channels are taken into account phenomenologically. The extended model gives an excellent fit to both piN phase shifts and inelasticity parameters in all channels up to the F-waves. However, a few of the extracted resonance parameters differ considerably from the PD…
Observed for the processes gamma+p arrow eta+p, gamma+n arrow eta+n are calculated throughout the resonance energy region using the single isobar model without a background. The connection between invariant photoexcitation amplitudes of the resonances on neutrons and protons are calculated. The results are discussed in terms of a comparison with experimental data and calculations performed by other authors.
Yields and transverse mass distributions of the $ϕ$-mesons reconstructed in the $ϕ\toμ^+μ^-$ channel in In+In collisions at $E_{\rm lab}$=158$A$ GeV are calculated within an integrated Boltzmann+hydrodynamics hybrid approach based on the Ultrarelativistic Quantum Molecular Dynamics (UrQMD) transport model with an intermediate hydrodynamic stage. The analysis is performed for various centralities and a comparison with the corresponding NA60 data in the muon channel is presented. We find that the hybrid model, that embeds an intermediate locally equilibrated phase subsequently mapped into the tr…
A study of the effects of meson-exchange currents and isobar configurations in $A(\vec{e},e'\vec{p})B$ reactions is presented. We use a distorted wave impulse approximation (DWIA) model where final-state interactions are treated through a phenomenological optical potential. The model includes relativistic corrections in the kinematics and in the electromagnetic one- and two-body currents. The full set of polarized response functions is analyzed, as well as the transferred polarization asymmetry. Results are presented for proton knock-out from closed-shell nuclei, for moderate to high momentum …
We study the collective flow of open charm mesons and charmonia in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 200 GeV within the hadron-string-dynamics (HSD) transport approach. The detailed studies show that the coupling of $D,\bar{D}$ mesons to the light hadrons leads to comparable directed and elliptic flow as for the light mesons. This also holds approximately for $J/Ψ$ mesons since more than 50% of the final charmonia for central and mid-central collisions stem from $D+\bar{D}$ induced reactions in the transport calculations. The transverse momentum spectra of $D,\bar{D}$ mesons and $J/Ψ$'s are onl…
We study the possibility to measure the elastic $ΦN$ ($Φ\equiv J/ψ, ψ(2S), ψ(3770),χ_{2c}$) scattering cross section in the reaction $\bar p{+}d{\to}Φ{+}n_{sp}$ and the elastic $D(\bar D) N$ scattering cross section in the reaction $\bar p{+}d \to D^- D^0 p_{sp}$. Our studies indicate that the elastic scattering cross sections can be determined for $Φ$ momenta about 4-6 GeV/c and $D/ \bar D$ momenta 2 -- 5 GeV/c by selecting events with $p_t \geq 0.4$ GeV/c for $Φ$'s and $p_t(p_{sp})\geq$ 0.5 GeV/c for $D/\bar D$-meson production.
The pion- and photon induced reactions for the final states $γN$, $πN$, $2πN$, $ηN$, and $ωN$ are studied within a coupled-channel effective Lagrangian approach in the energy region from the pion threshold up to 2 GeV. To investigate the role of the nucleon resonances in the different reactions we include all known states with spin-$\foh$,-$\fth$, and -$\ffh$ and masses below 2 GeV. We find a strong contribution from the $D_{15}(1675)$ resonance to the $πN \to ωN$ reaction. While the $F_{15}(1680)$ state only slightly influences the $ω$ meson production in the $πN$ scattering its role is enhan…
We analyze polarization phenomena for pseudoscalar and vector mesons production in nucleon-nucleon collisions. We identify three energy regions corresponding to different physics and different approaches in the analysis of polarization effects. In the threshold region, characterized by the S-wave production for all final particles, the general symmetry properties of strong interaction can be applied. The region of intermediate energies, T=2-4 GeV, is characterized by the essential role of central i.e. non-peripheral collisions, where only a small number of s-channel states with definite quantu…
