In recent years, interesting materials have emerged which are only available as micron-scale flakes, and whose novel physics might be better understood through broadband microwave spectroscopy; examples include twisted bilayer graphene [1], 2D materials in which many-body phases are observed [2], and artificial lattices for analog quantum simulations [3]. Most previous techniques are unfortunately not sensitive for flakes below mm lateral sizes. We propose a simple technique which does not require sophisticated sample preparation nor Ohmic contact and show through theory and simulations that one will be able to qualitatively measure spectral features of interest, and quantitatively measure the frequency-dependent complex conductivity.
Microwave quantum memory promises advanced capabilities for noisy intermediate-scale superconducting quantum computers. Existing approaches to microwave quantum memory lack complete combination of high efficiency, long storage time, noiselessness and multi-qubit capacity. Here we report an efficient microwave broadband multimode quantum memory. The memory stores two spectral modes of single photon level microwave radiation in on-chip system of eight coplanar superconducting resonators. Single mode storage shows a power efficiency of up to $60\pm 3\%$ at single photon energy and more than $73\p…
The Cooper-pair transistor (CPT), a small superconducting island enclosed between two Josephson weak links, is the atomic building block of various superconducting quantum circuits. Utilizing gate-tunable semiconductor channels as weak links, the energy scale associated with the Josephson tunneling can be changed with respect to the charging energy of the island, tuning the extent of its charge fluctuations. Here, we directly demonstrate this control by mapping the energy level structure of a CPT made of an indium arsenide nanowire (NW) with a superconducting aluminum shell. We extract the dev…
Quantum sensing has developed into a main branch of quantum science and technology. It aims at measuring physical quantities with high resolution, sensitivity, and dynamic range. Electron spins in diamond are powerful magnetic field sensors, but their sensitivity in the microwave regime is limited to a narrow band around their resonance frequency. Here, we realize broadband microwave detection using spins in diamond interfaced with a thin-film magnet. A pump field locally converts target microwave signals to the sensor-spin frequency via the non-linear spin-wave dynamics of the magnet. Two com…
Cavity optomagnonics has emerged as a promising platform for studying coherent photon-spin interactions as well as tunable microwave-to-optical conversion. However, current implementation of cavity optomagnonics in ferrimagnetic crystals remains orders of magnitude larger in volume than state-of-the-art cavity optomechanical devices, resulting in very limited magneto-optical interaction strength. Here, we demonstrate a cavity optomagnonic device based on integrated waveguides and its application for microwave-to-optical conversion. By designing a ferrimagnetic rib waveguide to support multiple…

The harvesting of ambient radio-frequency (RF) energy is an attractive and clean way to realize the idea of self-powered electronics. Here we present a design for a microwave energy harvester based on a nanoscale spintronic diode (NSD). This diode contains a magnetic tunnel junction with a canted magnetization of the free layer, and can convert RF energy over the frequency range from 100 MHz to 1.2 GHz into DC electric voltage. An attractive property of the developed NSD is the generation of an almost constant DC voltage in a wide range of frequencies of the external RF signals. We further sho…
Understanding broadband photoconductive behaviour in two dimensional layered materials are important in order to utilize them for a variety of opto-electronic applications. Here we present our results of photocurrent spectroscopy measurements performed on few layer Indium Selenide (InSe) flakes. Temperature (T) dependent (40 K < T < 300 K) photocurrent spectroscopy was performed in order to estimate the band-gap energies E_g(T) of InSe at various temperatures. Our measurements indicate that room temperature E_g value for InSe flake was ~ 1.254 eV, which increased to a value of ~ 1.275 eV at lo…
Precise determination of the spectroscopic g-factor using broadband ferromagnetic resonance spectroscopy
We use scanning optical magnetometry to study the broadband frequency spectra of spontaneous magnetization fluctuations, or "magnetization noise", in an archetypal ferromagnetic film that can be smoothly tuned through a spin reorientation transition (SRT). The SRT is achieved by laterally varying the magnetic anisotropy across an ultrathin Pt/Co/Pt trilayer, from the perpendicular to in-plane direction, via graded Ar$^+$ irradiation. In regions exhibiting perpendicular anisotropy, the power spectrum of the magnetization noise, $S(ν)$, exhibits a remarkably robust $ν^{-3/2}$ power law over freq…
