Multimedia information availability has increased dramatically with the advent of mobile devices. but with this availability comes problems of maintaining the security of information that is displayed in public. Many approaches have been used or proposed for providing security for information dissemination over networks, protection system classified with more specific as encryption information, and combination between video compression and encryption to increase information security. The strength of the combination between Video compression and encryption science is due to the nonexistence of standard algorithms to be used in video compression and encrypting secret video stream. Also there are many ways could be used in video encryption methods such as combining several different encryption methods with video compression to pass a secret video streaming. Furthermore, there is no formal method to be followed to discover an encrypted video. For this reason, the task of this paper becomes difficult. In this paper proposed a new system of video encryption is presented. The proposed system aim to gain a deep understanding of video data security on multimedia technologies, to investigate how encryption and decryption could be implemented for real time video applications, and to enhance the selective encryption for H.264/AVC. The system includes two main functions; first is the encoding/encryption of video stream, through the execution of two processes (the input sequences of video is first compressed by the H.264/AVC encoder, and the encoded bit stream (I-frame) is partially encrypted using AES block cipher). And the second function is the decryption/decoding of the encrypted video through two process (specify the encrypted I-frame stream, decryption of the I-frame, and decoding with H.264/AVC decoder). The system is implemented by using Matlab.

Versatile video coding (VVC) is the next generation video coding standard developed by the joint video experts team (JVET) and released in July 2020. VVC introduces several new coding tools providing a significant coding gain over the high efficiency video coding (HEVC) standard. It is well known that increasing the coding efficiency adds more dependencies in the video bitstream making format-compliant encryption with the standard more challenging. In this paper we tackle the problem of selective encryption of the VVC standard in format-compliant and constant bitrate. These two constraints ens…
Puncturable encryption (PE), proposed by Green and Miers at IEEE S&P 2015, is a kind of public key encryption that allows recipients to revoke individual messages by repeatedly updating decryption keys without communicating with senders. PE is an essential tool for constructing many interesting applications, such as asynchronous messaging systems, forward-secret zero round-trip time protocols, public-key watermarking schemes and forward-secret proxy re-encryptions. This paper revisits PEs from the observation that the puncturing property can be implemented as efficiently computable functions. …
Model protection is vital when deploying Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) for commercial services, due to the massive costs of training them. In this work, we propose a selective encryption (SE) algorithm to protect CNN models from unauthorized access, with a unique feature of providing hierarchical services to users. Our algorithm firstly selects important model parameters via the proposed Probabilistic Selection Strategy (PSS). It then encrypts the most important parameters with the designed encryption method called Distribution Preserving Random Mask (DPRM), so as to maximize the perfor…
In this thesis, a completely revisited data protection scheme based on selective encryption is presented. First, this new scheme is agnostic in term of data format, second it has a parallel architecture using GPGPU allowing performance to be at least comparable to full encryption algorithms. Bitmap, as a special uncompressed multimedia format, is addressed as a first use case. Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) is the first transformation for splitting fragments, getting data protection, and storing data separately on local device and cloud servers. This work has largely improved the previous pub…

With an increase in mobile and camera devices' popularity, digital content in the form of images has increased drastically. As personal life is being continuously documented in pictures, the risk of losing it to eavesdroppers is a matter of grave concern. Secondary storage is the most preferred medium for the storage of personal and other images. Our work is concerned with the security of such images. While encryption is the best way to ensure image security, full encryption and decryption is a computationally-intensive process. Moreover, as cameras are getting better every day, image quality,…
The monitoring of individuals/objects has become increasingly possible in recent years due to the convenience of integrated cameras in many devices. Due to the important moments or activities of people captured by these devices, it has made it a great asset for attackers to launch attacks against by exploiting the weaknesses in these devices. Different studies proposed naïve/selective encryption of the captured visual data for safety but despite the encryption, an attacker can still access or manipulate such data. This paper proposed a novel threat model, DEMIS which helps analyse the threats …

As mobile devices become ubiquitous, people around the world have enjoyed the convenience they have brought to our lives. At the same time, the increasing security threats that rise from using mobile devices not only have caught attention from cyber security agencies but also have become a valid concern for mobile users. Keylogging is one of the mobile security threats caused by using insecure third-party IME (input method editor) applications. Keylogging, as the name suggests, keeps track of user\rq s key events performed on the device and stores all the events in a log. The log could include…

The COVID-19 pandemic serves as a grim reminder of the unexpected nature of these outbreaks and gives rise to a unique set of research challenges in a variety of fields. As people all over the world adjust to this new 'normal', with most workplaces, from companies to educational institutions shifting online, enormous surges in the transmission of images and videos have been observed, creating record-breaking stresses on the internet backbone. At the same time, maintaining the privacy and security of the users' data is of immense importance, this is where fast and efficient image encryption alg…

As more sensitive data is shared and stored by third-party sites on the internet, there will be a need to encrypt data stored at these sites. One drawback of encrypting data is that it can be selectively shared only at a coarse-grained level. Attribute based encryption is a public-key-based one-to-many encryption that allows users to encrypt and decry pt data based on user attributes. A promising application of ABE is flexible access control of encrypted data stored in the cloud using access policies and ascribed attributes associated with private keys and cipher text. One.One of the main effi…
The concept of proxy re-encryption (PRE) dates back to the work of Blaze, Bleumer, and Strauss in 1998. PRE offers delegation of decryption rights, i.e., it securely enables the re-encryption of ciphertexts from one key to another, without relying on trusted parties. PRE allows a semi-trusted third party termed as a ``proxy" to securely divert encrypted files of user A (delegator) to user B (delegatee) without revealing any information about the underlying files to the proxy. To eliminate the necessity of having a costly certificate verification process, Green and Ateniese introduced an identi…
In this paper, some existing perceptual encryption algorithms of MPEG videos are reviewed and some problems, especially security defects of two recently proposed MPEG-video perceptual encryption schemes, are pointed out. Then, a simpler and more effective design is suggested, which selectively encrypts fixed-length codewords (FLC) in MPEG-video bitstreams under the control of three perceptibility factors. The proposed design is actually an encryption configuration that can work with any stream cipher or block cipher. Compared with the previously-proposed schemes, the new design provides more u…
Hardening data protection using multiple methods rather than 'just' encryption is of paramount importance when considering continuous and powerful attacks in order to observe, steal, alter, or even destroy private and confidential information. Our purpose is to look at cost effective data protection by way of combining fragmentation, encryption, and dispersion over several physical machines. This involves deriving general schemes to protect data everywhere throughout a network of machines where they are being processed, transmitted, and stored during their entire life cycle. This is being enabl…
This paper proposes to study the impact of image selective encryption on both forensics and privacy preserving mechanisms. The proposed selective encryption scheme works independently on each bitplane by encrypting the s most significant bits of each pixel. We show that this mechanism can be used to increase privacy by mitigating image recognition tasks. In order to guarantee a trade-off between forensics analysis and privacy, the signal of interest used for forensics purposes is extracted from the 8--s least significant bits of the protected image. We show on the CASIA2 database that good tam…
Lossy trapdoor functions, introduced by Peikert and Waters (STOC'08), have received a lot of attention in the last years, because of their wide range of applications in theoretical cryptography. The notion has been recently extended to the identity-based setting by Bellare et al. (Eurocrypt'12). We provide one more step in this direction, by considering the notion of hierarchical identity-based (lossy) trapdoor functions (HIB-TDFs). Hierarchical identity-based cryptography has proved very useful both for practical applications and to establish theoretical relations with other cryptographic pri…
Securing multimedia data has become of utmost importance especially in the applications related to military purposes. With the rise in development in computer and internet technology, multimedia data has become the most convenient method for military training. An innovative encryption algorithm for videos compressed using H.264 was proposed to safely exchange highly confidential videos. To maintain a balance between security and computational time, the proposed algorithm shuffles the video frames along with the audio, and then AES is used to selectively encrypt the sensitive video codewords. U…
At Crypto'07, Goyal introduced the concept of Accountable Authority Identity-Based Encryption as a convenient tool to reduce the amount of trust in authorities in Identity-Based Encryption. In this model, if the Private Key Generator (PKG) maliciously re-distributes users' decryption keys, it runs the risk of being caught and prosecuted. Goyal proposed two constructions: the first one is efficient but can only trace well-formed decryption keys to their source; the second one allows tracing obfuscated decryption boxes in a model (called weak black-box model) where cheating authorities have no d…
A growing number of devices and services collect detailed time series data that is stored in the cloud. Protecting the confidentiality of this vast and continuously generated data is an acute need for many applications in this space. At the same time, we must preserve the utility of this data by enabling authorized services to securely and selectively access and run analytics. This paper presents TimeCrypt, a system that provides scalable and real-time analytics over large volumes of encrypted time series data. TimeCrypt allows users to define expressive data access and privacy policies and en…
Performing searches over encrypted data is a very current and active area. Several efficient solutions have been provided for the single-writer scenario in which all sensitive data originates with one party (the Data Owner) that encrypts it and uploads it to a public repository. Subsequently the Data Owner (or authorized clients, the Query Sources) accesses the encrypted data through a Query Processor which has direct access to the public encrypted repository. Motivated by the recent trend in pervasive data collection, we depart from this model and consider a multi-writer scenario in which dat…
