We consider the two-body dynamical capture of black holes carrying U(1) charge which can not only correspond to electric or magnetic charge but also have other physical interpretations such as dark or hidden charge. In the low-velocity and weak-field regime, we study gravitational and electromagnetic radiations from point masses with U(1) charges in a hyperbolic orbit, and we develop a formalism to derive the merger rate of charged black holes from the two-body dynamical capture. We apply the formalism to find the effects of the charge-to-mass ratio on the merger rate for possible different cases and discover that the effects depend on the models.
Near-extremal primordial black holes stable over cosmological timescales may constitute a significant fraction of the dark matter. Due to their charge the coalescence rate of such black holes is enhanced inside clusters and the non-extremal merger remnants are prone to Hawking evaporation. We demonstrate that if these clusters of near-extremal holes contain a sufficient number of members to survive up to low redshift, the hard photons from continued evaporation begin to dominate the high energy diffuse background. We find that the diffuse photon flux can be observed for a monochromatic mass sp…
We perform general-relativistic simulations of charged black holes targeting GW150914. We show that the inspiral is most efficient for detecting black hole charge through gravitational waves and that GW150914 is compatible with having charge-to-mass ratio as high as 0.3. Our work applies to electric and magnetic charge, and to theories with black holes endowed with U(1) (hidden or dark) charges. Using our results we place an upper bound on the deviation from general relativity in the dynamical, strong-field regime of the so-called theory of MOdified Gravity (MOG).
We analyse the formation and evolution of the event horizon of a black hole binary merger when the black holes are charged. We find that the presence of charge influences the properties of the merger and can be useful for investigating the validity of various theories of modified gravity and several proposals for dark matter candidates. It can moreover give insights into various aspects of astrophysical phenomena involving black holes, such as degeneracies in the gravitational wave parameter determination. We perform our analysis both analytically and numerically, in $D=4$ dimensions, in the E…
We study to what extent the effective-one-body description of the dynamical state of a nonspinning, coalescing binary black hole (considered either at merger, or after ringdown) agrees with numerical relativity results. This comparison uses estimates of the integrated losses of energy and angular momentum during ringdown, inferred from recent numerical-relativity data. We find that the values, predicted by the effective-one-body formalism, of the energy and angular momentum of the system agree at the per mil level with their numerical-relativity counterparts, both at merger and in the final st…
Current gravitational-wave observations set the most stringent bounds on the abundance of primordial black holes (PBHs) in the solar mass range. This constraint, however, inherently relies on the merger rate predicted by PBH models. Previous analyses have focused mainly on two binary formation mechanisms: early Universe assembly out of decoupling from the Hubble expansion and dynamical capture in present-day dark matter structures. Using reaction rates of three-body processes studied in the astrophysical context, we show that, under conservative assumptions, three-body interactions in PBH halo…
We present fully general relativistic simulations of the quasi-circular inspiral and merger of charged, non-spinning, binary black holes with charge-to-mass ratio $λ\le 0.3$. We discuss the key features that enabled long term and stable evolutions of these binaries. We also present a formalism for computing the angular momentum carried away by electromagnetic waves, and the electromagnetic contribution to black-hole horizon properties. We implement our formalism and present the results for the first time in numerical-relativity simulations. In addition, we compare our full non-linear solutions…
Spinning Effective-to-Backwards One Body ($\texttt{SEBOB}$): combining Effective One-Body inspirals and Backwards One-Body merger-ringdowns for aligned spin black hole binaries
We consider the inspiral of black holes carrying U(1) charge that is not electromagnetic, but corresponds to some dark sector. In the weak-field, low-velocity regime, the components follow Keplerian orbits. We investigate how the orbital parameters evolve for dipole-dominated emission and find that the orbit quickly circularises, though not as efficiently as for a gravitationally dominated emission. We then regard circular orbits, and look for modifications in the gravitational waveform from the components carrying small charges. Taking this into account we populate the waveform with simplifie…
We find an exact solution to the charged 2-body problem in $(1+1)$ dimensional lineal gravity which provides the first example of a relativistic system that generalizes the Majumdar-Papapetrou condition for static balance.
We extend the description of gravitational waves emitted by binary black holes during the final stages of inspiral and merger by introducing in the third post-Newtonian (3PN) effective-one-body (EOB) templates seven new ``flexibility'' parameters that affect the two-body dynamics and gravitational radiation emission. The plausible ranges of these flexibility parameters, notably the parameter characterising the fourth post-Newtonian effects in the dynamics, are estimated. Using these estimates, we show that the currently available standard 3PN bank of EOB templates does ``span'' the space of si…
It appears to follow from the Reissner-Nordstrom solution of Einstein's equations that the charge of a body reduces its gravitational field. In a recent note Hushwater offered an explanation of this apparent paradox. His explanation, however, raises more questions than solves since it implies that the active gravitational mass of a charged body is distance-dependent and therefore is not equal to its inertial mass.
The discoveries of GW 150914, GW 151226, and LVT 151012 suggest that double black hole (BH-BH) mergers are common in the universe. If at least one of the two merging black holes carries certain amount of charge, possibly retained by a rotating magnetosphere, the inspiral of a BH-BH system would drive a global magnetic dipole normal to the orbital plane. The rapidly evolving magnetic moment during the merging process would drive a Poynting flux with an increasing wind power. The magnetospheric activities during the final phase of the merger would make a fast radio burst (FRB) if the BH charge c…
We describe a general procedure to generate spinning, precessing waveforms that include inspiral, merger and ringdown stages in the effective-one-body (EOB) approach. The procedure uses a precessing frame in which precession-induced amplitude and phase modulations are minimized, and an inertial frame, aligned with the spin of the final black hole, in which we carry out the matching of the inspiral-plunge to merger-ringdown waveforms. As a first application, we build spinning, precessing EOB waveforms for the gravitational modes l=2 such that in the nonprecessing limit those waveforms agree wit…
With mass ratio larger than $\sim 5$ (which depends on the black hole spin and the star radius), star disruption is not expected for a black hole merging with a neutron star during the final plunge phase. In the late inspiral stage, the black hole is likely charged as it cuts through the magnetic field carried by the neutron star, leaving a temporarily charged black hole after merger. The unstable charged state of the remnant black hole rapidly neutralizes by interacting with the surrounding plasma and photons, which we investigate in first principle by numerically solving a coupled set of Bol…
In the present paper, we have considered the three parameters: mass, charge and rotation to discuss their combined effect on frame dragging for a charged rotating body. If we consider the ray of light which is emitted radially outward from a rotating body then the frame dragging shows a periodic nature with respect to coordinate $ϕ$ (azimuthal angle). It has been found that the value of frame dragging obtains a maximum at, $ ϕ=\fracπ{2}$ and a minimum at $ ϕ=\frac{3 π}{2}$.

The gravitational deflection of light ray is an important prediction of General Theory of Relativity. In this paper we develop analytical expression of the deflection of light ray without any weak field approximation due to a charged gravitational body represented by Reissner_Nordström (RN) and Janis-Newman-Winicour (JNW) space time geometry, using material medium approach. It is concluded that although both the geometries represent the charged, non-rotating, spherically symmetric gravitating body, but the effect of charge on the gravitational deflection is just opposite to each other. The gra…
Observations of gravitational waves provide new opportunities to study our Universe. In particular, mergers of stellar black holes are the main targets of the current gravitational wave experiments. In order to make accurate predictions, it is however necessary to simulate the mergers in numerical general relativity, which requires high performance computing. While scaling relations are used to rescale simulations for very massive black holes, primordial black holes have specific properties which can invalidate the rescaling. Similarly black holes in theories beyond Einstein's relativity can h…
The advent of gravitational wave observation starts a new era of precision tests of gravitational theory. Estimations of black holes mergers should come from any well established gravitational theories, provided that the theory has not been ruled out by observations. In this paper we consider the low energy limit of heterotic string theory where the associated rotating and charged black holes are described by the Kerr-Sen solution. We investigate the approximate final spins and quasinormal modes of the black hole resulting from the merger process.
Gravitational-wave astronomy with coalescing binary neutron star sources requires the availability of gravitational waveforms with tidal effects accurate up to merger. This article presents an improved version of \TEOBResum, a nonspinning effective-one-body (EOB) waveform model with enhanced analytical information in its tidal sector. The tidal potential governing the conservative dynamics employs resummed expressions based on post-Newtonian (PN) and gravitational self-force (GSF) information. In particular, we compute a GSF-resummed expression for the leading-order octupolar gravitoelectric t…
According to GTR and subsequent developments in the field, it is known that there are three factors namely mass, rotation and charge that can influence the space-time geometry. Accordingly, we discuss the effect of space-time geometry of a charged, rotating body on the motion of the light ray. We obtained the expression for equatorial defection of light due to such a body up to fourth order term. In our expression for defection angle it is clear that charge can influence the path of light ray. We used the null geodesic approach of light ray for our calculation. If we set the charge to zero our…

We consider gravitational radiation and electromagnetic radiation from point mass binary with electric charges in a Keplerian orbit, and calculate the merger rate distribution of primordial black hole binaries with charges and a general mass function by taking into account gravitational torque and electromagnetic torque by the nearest primordial black hole. We apply the formalism to the extremal charged case and find that $α=-(m_i+m_j)^2\partial^2 \ln {\cal R}(m_i,m_j)/\partial m_i \partial m_j=12/11$, which is independent of the mass function.
The present work contains a discussion on compact stellar body that is influenced by the effects electromagnetic fields. We have tried to discuss a solution of Einstein-Maxwell field equation with the interpretation of Buchdahl spacetime type function. The interior fluid density and anisotropic pressures have been derived for a charged fluid of compact body which is also continuous with the Reissner-Nordstrom metric exterior solution. We have discussed the singularity free interior anisotropic fluid under electromagnetic influence. The thermodynamics energy conditions and their variation with …
In classical electrodynamics, an accelerating charged body emits radiation and experiences a corresponding radiation-reaction force, or self force. We extend to higher order in the total charge a previous rigorous derivation of the electromagnetic self force in flat spacetime by Gralla, Harte, and Wald. The method introduced by Gralla, Harte, and Wald computes the self force from the Maxwell field equations and conservation of stress-energy in a limit where the charge, size, and mass of the body go to zero, and does not require regularization of a singular self field. For our higher order comp…
We extend the problem of $(1+1)$ circular dilaton gravity to include charged particles. We examine the two (charged) particle case in detail and find an exact equilibrium solution. We then extend this to $N-$particles and obtain a solution for this case as well. This class of solutions corresponds to $N$-particles of the same mass, spaced evenly around the circle with charges chosen so that the electric field satisfies $E^{2}=$constant. We discuss the relation of these solutions to the previous uncharged equilibrium solutions and examine the behavior when the number of particles is large. We c…
We first use five non-spinning and two mildly spinning (chi_i \simeq -0.44, +0.44) numerical-relativity waveforms of black-hole binaries and calibrate an effective-one-body (EOB) model for non-precessing spinning binaries, notably its dynamics and the dominant (2,2) gravitational-wave mode. Then, we combine the above results with recent outcomes of small-mass-ratio simulations produced by the Teukolsky equation and build a prototype EOB model for detection purposes, which is capable of generating inspiral-merger-ringdown waveforms for non-precessing spinning black-hole binaries with any mass r…
Dynamical capture is a possible formation channel for BBH mergers leading to highly eccentric merger dynamics and to gravitational wave (GW) signals that are morphologically different from those of quasi-circular mergers. The future detection of these mergers by ground-based or space-based GW interferometers can provide invaluable insights on astrophysical black holes, but it requires precise predictions and dedicated waveform models for the analysis. We present a state-of-the-art effective-one-body (EOB) model for the multipolar merger-ringdown waveform from dynamical capture black-hole merge…
The inference of binary neutron star properties from gravitational-wave observations requires the generation of millions of waveforms, each one spanning about three order of magnitudes in frequency range. Thus, waveform models must be efficiently generated and, at the same time, be faithful from the post-Newtonian quasi-adiabatic inspiral up to the merger regime. A simple solution to this problem is to combine effective-one-body waveforms with the stationary phase approximation to obtain frequency-domain multipolar approximants valid from any low frequency to merger. We demonstrate that effect…
A 4-parametric exact solution describing a two-body system of identical Kerr-Newman counter-rotating black holes endowed with opposite electric/magnetic charges is presented. The axis conditions are solved in order to really describe two black holes separated by a massless strut. Moreover, the explicit form of the horizon half length parameter sigma in terms of physical Komar parameters, i.e., the Komar mass M, electric charge QE, angular momentum J, and a coordinate distance R is derived. Additionally, magnetic charges QB arise from the rotation of electrically charged black holes. As a conse…

We investigate resonance crossings of a charged body moving around a Kerr black hole immersed in an external homogeneous magnetic field. This system can serve as an electromagnetic analogue of a weakly non-integrable extreme mass ratio inspiral (EMRI). In particular, the presence of the magnetic field renders the conservative part of the system non-integrable in the Liouville sense, while the electromagnetic self-force causes the charged body to inspiral. By studying the system without the self-force, we show the existence of an approximate Carter-like constant and discuss how resonances grow …
We study the influence of relativity on the chaotic properties and dynamical outcomes of an unstable triple system; the Pythagorean three-body problem. To this end, we extend the Brutus N-body code to include Post-Newtonian pairwise terms up to 2.5 order, and the first order Taylor expansion to the Einstein-Infeld-Hoffmann equations of motion. The degree to which our system is relativistic depends on the scaling of the total mass (the unit size was 1 parsec). Using the Brutus method of convergence, we test for time-reversibility in the conservative regime, and demonstrate that we are able to o…
We investigate the charged $q/2$-body interacting Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev (SYK) model in the grand-canonical ensemble. By treating $q$ as a large parameter, we are able to analytically study its phase diagram. By varying the chemical potential or temperature, we find that the system undergoes a phase transition between low and high entropies, in the maximally chaotic regime. A similar transition in entropy is seen in charged AdS black holes transitioning between a large and small event horizon. Approaching zero temperature, we find a first-order chaotic-to-non-chaotic quantum phase transition, where…
(Abridged) We use high resolution cosmological N-body simulations to study the growth of intermediate to supermassive black holes from redshift 49 to zero. We track the growth of black holes from the seeds of population III stars to black holes in the range of 10^3 < M < 10^7 Msun -- not quasars, but rather IMBH to low-mass SMBHs. These lower mass black holes are the primary observable for the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA). The large-scale dynamics of the black holes are followed accurately within the simulation down to scales of 1 kpc; thereafter, we follow the merger analytically…
We have studied scalar perturbations of charged dilaton black holes in 2+1 dimensions. The black hole considered here is a solution to the low-energy string theory in 2+1 dimensions. The exact decay rates and the grey body factors for the massless minimally coupled scalar is computed for both the charged and the uncharged dilaton black holes. The charged and the uncharged black hole show similar behavior for grey body factors, reflection coefficients and decay rates.
GW190521 is the most massive binary black hole (BBH) merger observed to date, and its primary component lies in the pair-instability (PI) mass gap. Here, we investigate the formation of GW190521-like systems via three-body encounters in young massive star clusters. We performed 2$\times10^5$ simulations of binary-single interactions between a BBH and a massive $\geq{60}\,$M$_{\odot}$ black hole (BH), including post-Newtonian terms up to the $2.5$ order and a prescription for relativistic kicks. In our initial conditions, we take into account the possibility of forming BHs in the PI mass gap vi…
