We report the discovery of an extended very-high-energy (VHE) gamma-ray source around the location of the middle-aged (207.8 kyr) pulsar PSR J0622+3749 with the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO). The source is detected with a significance of $8.2σ$ for $E>25$~TeV assuming a Gaussian template. The best-fit location is (R.A., Dec.)$=(95^{\circ}\!.47\pm0^{\circ}\!.11,\,37^{\circ}\!.92 \pm0^{\circ}\!.09)$, and the extension is $0^{\circ}\!.40\pm0^{\circ}\!.07$. The energy spectrum can be described by a power-law spectrum with an index of ${-2.92 \pm 0.17_{\rm stat} \pm 0.02_{\rm sys} }$. No clear extended multi-wavelength counterpart of the LHAASO source has been found from the radio to sub-TeV bands. The LHAASO observations are consistent with the scenario that VHE electrons escaped from the pulsar, diffused in the interstellar medium, and scattered the interstellar radiation field. If interpreted as the pulsar halo scenario, the diffusion coefficient, inferred for electrons with median energies of $\sim160$~TeV, is consistent with those obtained from the extended halos around Geminga and Monogem and much smaller than that derived from cosmic ray secondaries. The LHAASO discovery of this source thus likely enriches the class of so-called pulsar halos and confirms that high-energy particles generally diffuse very slowly in the disturbed medium around pulsars.
LHAASO J1908+0621 has been recently detected as a source emitting $γ$-rays with energies above 100 TeV, and the multiband observations show that a break around 1 TeV appears in the $γ$-ray spectrum. We have reanalyzed the GeV $γ$-ray properties for the 100 TeV source using 14 years of data recorded by the Fermi Large Area Telescope (Fermi-LAT). The spectrum in the energy range range 30-500 GeV has an index of 1.50 $\pm$ 0.26, which is much smaller than that detected in the TeV $γ$-rays. Additionally, the radiation properties of this source are investigated based on a one-zone time-dependent mo…
X-ray characterization of the pulsar PSR J1849$-$0001 and its wind nebula G32.64+0.53 associated with TeV sources detected by H.E.S.S., HAWC, Tibet AS$γ$, and LHAASO
Recent observations by the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO) have paved the way for the observational detection of PeVatrons in the Milky Way Galaxy, thus revolutionizing the field of $γ$-ray astrophysics. In this paper, we study one such detected source, LHAASO J1908+0621, and explore the origin of multi-TeV $γ$-ray emission from this source. A middle-aged radio supernova remnant SNR G40.5-0.5 and a GeV pulsar PSR J1907+0602 are co-spatial with LHAASO J1908+0621. Dense molecular clouds are also found to be associated with SNR G40.5-0.5. We explain the multi-TeV $γ$-ray emiss…
The HAWC Collaboration has reported the detection of an extended $γ$-ray emission around the Geminga and Monogem pulsars of a few degree extension. Very recently, the LHAASO Collaboration released also the data for an extended $γ$-ray emission around the pulsar PSR J0622+3749. This flux can be explained with electrons and positrons injected from these sources and their inverse Compton Scattering on the interstellar radiation fields. So far the size of such $γ-$ray halos has been interpreted as the result of the diffusion coefficient around the sources being about two orders of magnitude smalle…
LHAASO J0621$+$3755 is a TeV gamma-ray halo newly identified by LHAASO-KM2A. It is likely to be generated by electrons trapped in a slow-diffusion zone around PSR J0622$+$3749 through inverse Compton scattering. When the gamma-ray spectrum of LHAASO-KM2A is fitted, the GeV fluxes derived by the commonly used one-zone normal diffusion model for electron propagation are significantly higher than the upper limits (ULs) of Fermi-LAT. In this work, we respectively adopt the one-zone superdiffusion and two-zone normal diffusion models to solve this conflict. For the superdiffusion scenario, we find …
The Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory has reported the detection of cosmic-ray sources in Milky Way that can accelerate particles up to PeV (= 10$^{15}$ eV) energies. These sources, so called ``PeVatrons'', are mostly unidentified. Several classes of sources, such as supernova remnants, pulsar wind nebula, or young stellar clusters can potentially be the counterparts of these PeVatrons. The aim of this work is to study a pulsar wind nebula interpretation of one of these PeVatrons, LHAASO J2226+6057, which has a relatively well covered multi-frequency spectrum. We have performed a lept…

There have been substantial improvements on Fermi Large Area Telescope (LAT) data and analysis tools since the last analysis on the mid-aged supernova remnant (SNR) Kes 79 (Auchettl et al. 2014). Recent multi-wavelength studies confirmed its interaction with molecular clouds. About $0.36\degr$ north from Kes 79, a powerful pulsar -- PSR J1853+0056 also deserves our attention. In this work, we analyse the 11.5-year Fermi-LAT data to investigate the $γ$-ray feature in/around this complex region. Our result shows a more significant detection ($\sim$34.8$σ$ in 0.1--50 GeV) for this region. With $\…

It is believed that an isolated pulsar loses its rotational energy mainly through a relativistic wind consisting of electrons, positrons and possibly Poynting flux\cite{Pacini1973,Rees1974,Kennel1984}. As it expands, this wind may eventually be terminated by a shock, where particles can be accelerated to energies of X-ray synchrotron emission, and a pulsar wind nebula (PWN) is usually detectable surrounding a young energetic pulsar\cite{Pacini1973,Rees1974,Kennel1984}. However, the nature and/or energetics of these physical processes remain very uncertain, largely because they typically cannot…

The origin of the positron excess is one of the most intriguing mysteries in astroparticle physics. The recent discovery of extended $γ$-ray halos around the pulsars Geminga, Monogem and PSR J0621+3755 have brought indirect evidence that pulsar wind nebulae accelerate $e^{\pm}$ up to very-high-energy. While the precision of previous data does not permit precise evaluation of the parameters for the pulsars, we are able to find the more precise shape of the injection spectrum using new data released by HAWC and LHAASO in 2020 and 2021. We find that this is well fitten by a power-law with an expo…
Extended very-high-energy (VHE; 0.1-100 TeV) $γ$-ray emission has been observed around several middle-aged pulsars and referred to as ``TeV halos". Their formation mechanism remains under debate. It is also unknown whether they are ubiquitous or related to certain subgroup of pulsars. With 2321 days of observation, the High Altitude Water Cherenkov (HAWC) Gamma-Ray Observatory detected VHE $γ$-ray emission at the location of the radio-quiet pulsar PSR J0359+5414 with $>6σ$ significance. By performing likelihood tests with different spectral and spatial models and comparing the TeV spectrum wit…

The recent discovery of a new population of ultra-high-energy gamma-ray sources with spectra extending beyond 100 TeV revealed the presence of Galactic PeVatrons - cosmic-ray factories accelerating particles to PeV energies. These sources, except for the one associated with the Crab Nebula, are not yet identified. With an extension of 1 degree or more, most of them contain several potential counterparts, including Supernova Remnants, young stellar clusters and Pulsar Wind Nebulae (PWNe), which can perform as PeVatrons and thus power the surrounding diffuse ultra-high energy gamma-ray structure…
