The construction of symmetry breaking differential operators, using invariant pluri-harmonic polynomials, due to T. Ibukiyama in the context of the Siegel upper half space, is extended for scalar representations to general Hermitian symmetric spaces of tube-type. The new context is described in terms of Euclidean Jordan algebras and their representations. As an example, new and explicit differential operators are obtained for the restriction from the tube domain over the light cone to the product of two upper half-planes.
Let $\mathbb S$ be a Clifford module for the complexified Clifford algebra $\mathbb{C}\ell(\mathbb R^n)$, $\mathbb S'$ its dual, $ρ$ and $ρ'$ be the corresponding representations of the spin group ${\rm Spin}(n)$. The group $G= {\rm Spin}(1,n+1)$ is a (twofold) covering of the conformal group of $\mathbb R^n$. For $λ, μ\in \mathbb C$, let $π_{ρ, λ}$ (resp. $π_{ρ',μ}$) be the spinorial representation of $G$ realized on a (subspace of) $C^\infty(\mathbb R^n,\mathbb S)$ (resp. $C^\infty(\mathbb R^n,\mathbb S')$). For $0\leq k\leq n$ and $m\in \mathbb N$, we construct a symmetry breaking different…
Construction and classification of differential symmetry breaking operators for principal series representations of the pair $(SO_0(4,1), SO_0(3,1))$ for special parameters
Part I. We prove a one-to-one correspondence between differential symmetry breaking operators for equivariant vector bundles over two homogeneous spaces and certain homomorphisms for representations of two Lie algebras, in connection with branching problems of the restriction of representations. We develop a new method (F-method) based on the algebraic Fourier transform for generalized Verma modules, which characterizes differential symmetry breaking operators by means of certain systems of partial differential equations. In contrast to the setting of real flag varieties, continuous symmetry b…
Rapid progress has been made recently on symmetry breaking operators for real reductive groups. Based on Program A-C for branching problems (T.Kobayashi [Progr.Math.2015]), we illustrate a scheme of the classification of (local and nonlocal) symmetry breaking operators by an example of conformal representations on differential forms on the model space $(X,Y)=(S^n, S^{n-1})$, which generalizes the scalar case (Kobayashi--Speh [Memoirs of Amer.Math.Soc. 2015]) and the case of local operators (Kobayashi--Kubo--Pevzner [Lecture Notes in Math. 2016]). Some applications to automorphic form theory, m…
We present Bernstein-Sato identities for scalar-, spinor- and differential form-valued distribution kernels on Euclidean space associated to conformal symmetry breaking operators. The associated Bernstein-Sato operators lead to partially new formulae for conformal symmetry breaking differential operators on functions, spinors and differential forms.
We give a complete classification of conformally covariant differential operators between the spaces of differential $i$-forms on the sphere $S^n$ and $j$-forms on the totally geodesic hypersphere $S^{n-1}$ by analyzing the restriction of principal series representations of the Lie group $O(n+1,1)$. Further, we provide explicit formulæ for these matrix-valued operators in the flat coordinates and find factorization identities for them.
We prove an explicit residue formula for a meromorphic continuation of conformally covariant integral operators between differential forms on ${\bf R}^n$ and on its hyperplane. The results provide a simple and new construction of the conformally covariant differential symmetry breaking operators between differential forms on the sphere and those on its totally geodesic hypersurface that were introduced in [Kobayashi-Kubo-Pevzner, Lect. Notes Math. (2016)]. Moreover, we determine the zeros of the matrix-valued regular symmetry breaking operators between principal series representations of $O(n+…
We give a complete classification of conformally covariant differential operators between the spaces of $i$-forms on the sphere $S^n$ and $j$-forms on the totally geodesic hypersphere $S^{n-1}$. Moreover, we find explicit formulæ for these new matrix-valued operators in the flat coordinates in terms of basic operators in differential geometry and classical orthogonal polynomials. We also establish matrix-valued factorization identities among all possible combinations of conformally covariant differential operators. The main machinery of the proof is the "F-method" based on the "algebraic Fouri…
For a pseudo-Riemannian manifold $X$ and a totally geodesic hypersurface $Y$, we consider the problem of constructing and classifying all linear differential operators $\mathcal{E}^i(X) \to \mathcal{E}^j(Y)$ between the spaces of differential forms that intertwine multiplier representations of the Lie algebra of conformal vector fields. Extending the recent results in the Riemannian setting by Kobayashi-Kubo-Pevzner [Lecture Notes in Math.~2170, (2016)], we construct such differential operators and give a classification of them in the pseudo-Riemannian setting where both $X$ and $Y$ are of con…
We obtain a family of functional identities satisfied by vector-valued functions of two variables and their geometric inversions. For this we introduce particular differential operators of arbitrary order attached to Gegenbauer polynomials. These differential operators are symmetry breaking for the pair of Lie groups $(SL(2,\mathbb C), SL(2,\mathbb R))$ that arise from conformal geometry.
We provide some insights in the study of branching problems of reductive groups, and a method of investigations into symmetry breaking operators. First, we give geometric criteria for finiteness property of linearly independent continuous (respectively, differential) operators that intertwine two induced representations of reductive Lie groups and their reductive subgroups. Second, we extend the F-method known for local operators to non-local operators. We then illustrate the idea by concrete examples in conformal geometry, and explain how the F-method works for detailed analysis of symmetry b…
For a pair $(G,G')=(O(n+1,1), O(n,1))$ of reductive groups, we investigate intertwining operators (symmetry breaking operators) between principal series representations $I_δ(V,λ)$ of $G$, and $J_ε(W,ν)$ of the subgroup $G'$. The representations are parametrized by finite-dimensional representations $V,W$ of $O(n)$ respectively of $O(n-1)$, characters $δ$, $\varepsilon$ of O(1), and $λ, ν\in C$. The multiplicty [V:W] of W occurring in the restriction $V|_{O(n-1)}$ is either 0 or 1. If $[V:W] \ne 0$ then we construct a holomorphic family of symmetry breaking operators and prove that dim $Hom_{G'…
The analysis of branching problems for restriction of representations brings the concept of symmetry breaking transform and holographic transform. Symmetry breaking operators decrease the number of variables in geometric models, whereas holographic operators increase it. Various expansions in classical analysis can be interpreted as particular occurrences of these transforms. From this perspective, we investigate two remarkable families of differential operators: the Rankin-Cohen operators and the holomorphic Juhl conformally covariant operators. Then we establish for the corresponding symmetr…
