A paired dominating set $P$ is a dominating set with the additional property that $P$ has a perfect matching. While the maximum cardainality of a minimal dominating set in a graph $G$ is called the upper domination number of $G$, denoted by $Γ(G)$, the maximum cardinality of a minimal paired dominating set in $G$ is called the upper paired domination number of $G$, denoted by $Γ_{pr}(G)$. By Henning and Pradhan (2019), we know that $Γ_{pr}(G)\leq 2Γ(G)$ for any graph $G$ without isolated vertices. We focus on the graphs satisfying the equality $Γ_{pr}(G)= 2Γ(G)$. We give characterizations for two special graph classes: bipartite and unicyclic graphs with $Γ_{pr}(G)= 2Γ(G)$ by using the results of Ulatowski (2015). Besides, we study the graphs with $Γ_{pr}(G)= 2Γ(G)$ and a restricted girth. In this context, we provide two characterizations: one for graphs with $Γ_{pr}(G)= 2Γ(G)$ and girth at least 6 and the other for $C_3$-free cactus graphs with $Γ_{pr}(G)= 2Γ(G)$. We also pose the characterization of the general case of $C_3$-free graphs with $Γ_{pr}(G)= 2Γ(G)$ as an open question.
Let $G = (V, E)$ be a graph without an isolated vertex. A set $D\subseteq V(G)$ is a $k$-distance paired domination set of $G$ if $D$ is a $k$-distance dominating set of $G$ and the induced subgraph $\langle D \rangle$ has a perfect matching. The minimum cardinality of a $k$-distance paired dominating set for graph $G$ is the $k$-distance paired domination number, denoted by $γ_{p} ^{k}(G)$. In this paper, the $k$-distance paired domination of the flower graph $f_{n\times m}$ is discussed. For $m,n\geq 3$, the exact values for paired domination number and $2$-distance paired domination number …
A dominating set $D$ for a graph $G$ is a subset of $V(G)$ such that any vertex not in $D$ has at least one neighbor in $D$. The domination number $γ(G)$ is the size of a minimum dominating set in $G$. Vizing's conjecture from 1968 states that for the Cartesian product of graphs $G$ and $H$, $γ(G) γ(H) \leq γ(G \Box H)$, and Clark and Suen (2000) proved that $γ(G) γ(H) \leq 2γ(G \Box H)$. In this paper, we modify the approach of Clark and Suen to prove a variety of similar bounds related to total and paired domination, and also extend these bounds to the $n$-Cartesian product of graphs $A^1$ t…

Given a graph $G=(V(G), E(G))$, the size of a minimum dominating set, minimum paired dominating set, and a minimum total dominating set of a graph $G$ are denoted by $γ(G)$, $γ_{\rm pr}(G)$, and $γ_{t}(G)$, respectively. For a positive integer $k$, a $k$-packing in $G$ is a set $S \subseteq V(G)$ such that for every pair of distinct vertices $u$ and $v$ in $S$, the distance between $u$ and $v$ is at least $k+1$. The $k$-packing number is the order of a largest $k$-packing and is denoted by $ρ_{k}(G)$. It is well known that $γ_{\rm pr}(G) \le 2γ(G)$. In this paper, we prove that it is NP-hard t…
Let $G$ be a graph without isolated vertices. The total domination number of $G$ is the minimum number of vertices that can dominate all vertices in $G$, and the paired domination number of $G$ is the minimum number of vertices in a dominating set whose induced subgraph contains a perfect matching. This paper determines the total domination number and the paired domination number of the toroidal meshes, i.e., the Cartesian product of two cycles $C_n$ and $C_m$ for any $n\ge 3$ and $m\in\{3,4\}$, and gives some upper bounds for $n, m\ge 5$.
Let G be a simple undirected graph with no isolated vertex. A paired dominating set of G is a dominating set which induces a subgraph that has a perfect matching. The paired domination number of G, denoted by γpr(G), is the size of its smallest paired dominating set. Goddard and Henning conjectured that γpr(G) {\leq} 4n/7 holds for every graph G with δ(G) {\geq} 3, except the Petersen Graph. In this paper, we prove this conjecture for cubic graphs.
Let $G=(V,E)$ be a graph without isolated vertices. A set $S\subseteq V$ is a paired-domination set if every vertex in $V-S$ is adjacent to a vertex in $S$ and the subgraph induced by $S$ contains a perfect matching. The paired-domination problem is to determine the paired-domination number, which is the minimum cardinality of a paired-dominating set. Motivated by a mistaken algorithm given by Chen, Kang and Ng [ Paired domination on interval and circular-arc graphs, Disc. Appl. Math. 155(2007),2077-2086], we present two linear time algorithms to find a minimum cardinality paired-dominating se…
Let $G=(V,E)$ be a graph without isolated vertices. A matching in $G$ is a set of independent edges in $G$. A perfect matching $M$ in $G$ is a matching such that every vertex of $G$ is incident to an edge of $M$. A set $S\subseteq V$ is a \textit{paired-dominating set} of $G$ if every vertex in $V-S$ is adjacent to some vertex in $S$ and if the subgraph $G[S]$ induced by $S$ contains at least one perfect matching. The paired-domination problem is to find a paired-dominating set of $G$ with minimum cardinality. A set $MPD\subseteq E$ is a \textit{matched-paired-dominating set} of $G$ if $MPD$ i…
We propose the conjecture that the domination number $γ(G)$ of a $Δ$-regular graph $G$ with $Δ\geq 1$ is always at most its edge domination number $γ_e(G)$, which coincides with the domination number of its line graph. We prove that $γ(G)\leq \left(1+\frac{2(Δ-1)}{Δ2^Δ}\right)γ_e(G)$ for general $Δ\geq 1$, and $γ(G)\leq \left(\frac{7}{6}-\frac{1}{204}\right)γ_e(G)$ for $Δ=3$. Furthermore, we verify our conjecture for cubic claw-free graphs.
Let $γ(G)$ and $i(G)$ be the domination number and the independent domination number of $G$, respectively. Rad and Volkmann posted a conjecture that $i(G)/ γ(G) \leq Δ(G)/2$ for any graph $G$, where $Δ(G)$ is its maximum degree (See \cite{5}: N.J. Rad, L. Volkmann, A note on the independent domination number in graphs. Discrete Appl. Math. 161(2013) 3087--3089). In this work, we verify the conjecture for bipartite graphs. Several graph classes attaining the extremal bound and graphs containing odd cycles with the ratio larger than $Δ(G)/2$ are provided as well.
A set $D$ of vertices in a graph $G$ is called dominating if every vertex of $G$ is either in $D$ or adjacent to a vertex of $D$. The paired domination number $γ_{\mathrm{pr}}(G)$ of $G$ is the minimum size of a dominating set whose induced subgraph admits a perfect matching, and the upper domination number $Γ(G)$ is the maximum size of a minimal dominating set. In this paper, we investigate the sharpness of two multiplicative inequalities for these domination parameters, where the graph product is the direct product $\times$. We show that for every positive constant $c$, there exist graphs $G…
A set $S$ of vertices in a graph $G$ is a dominating set if every vertex of $G$ is in $S$ or is adjacent to a vertex in $S$. If, in addition, $S$ is an independent set, then $S$ is an independent dominating set. The domination number $γ(G)$ of $G$ is the minimum cardinality of a dominating set in $G$, while the independent domination number $i(G)$ of $G$ is the minimum cardinality of an independent dominating set in $G$. We prove that for all integers $k \geq 3$ it holds that if $G$ is a connected $k$-regular graph, then $\frac{i(G)}{γ(G)} \leq \frac{k}{2}$, with equality if and only if $G = K…
For a graph $G=(V,E)$, a subset $D$ of vertex set $V$, is a dominating set of $G$ if every vertex not in $D$ is adjacent to atleast one vertex of $D$. A dominating set $D$ of a graph $G$ with no isolated vertices is called a paired dominating set (PD-set), if $G[D]$, the subgraph induced by $D$ in $G$ has a perfect matching. The Min-PD problem requires to compute a PD-set of minimum cardinality. The decision version of the Min-PD problem remains NP-complete even when $G$ belongs to restricted graph classes such as bipartite graphs, chordal graphs etc. On the positive side, the problem is effic…
In this paper we begin an exploration of several domination-related parameters (among which are the total, restrained, total restrained, paired, outer connected and total outer connected domination numbers) in the generalized lexicographic product (GLP for short) of graphs. We prove that for each GLP of graphs there exist several equality chains containing these parameters. Some known results on standard lexicographic product of two graphs are generalized or/and extended. We also obtain results on well $μ$-dominated GLP of graphs, where $μ$ stands for any of the above mentioned domination para…
For a graph $G$, the $γ$-graph of $G$, $G(γ)$, is the graph whose vertices correspond to the minimum dominating sets of $G$, and where two vertices of $G(γ)$ are adjacent if and only if their corresponding dominating sets in $G$ differ by exactly two adjacent vertices. In this paper, we present several variations of the $γ$-graph including those using identifying codes, locating-domination, total-domination, paired-domination, and the upper-domination number. For each, we show that for any graph $H$, there exist infinitely many graphs whose $γ$-graph variant is isomorphic to $H$.
For a graph G=(V,E), a restrained double Roman dominating function is a function f:V\rightarrow\{0,1,2,3\} having the property that if f(v)=0, then the vertex v must have at least two neighbors assigned 2 under f or one neighbor w with f(w)=3, and if f(v)=1, then the vertex v must have at least one neighbor w with f(w)\geq2, and at the same time, the subgraph G[V_0] which includes vertices with zero labels has no isolated vertex. The weight of a restrained double Roman dominating function f is the sum f(V)=\sum_{v\in V}f(v), and the minimum weight of a restrained double Roman dominating functi…
