Null hypersurface caustics and super-entropic black holes

We obtain a charged, rotating and accelerating black hole solution in the $f(R)$ gravity and calculate thermodynamic quantities of the black hole in the slow acceleration regime. We then find that the black hole can be super-entropic in a certain condition. After investigating the null hypersurface of the black hole, we show that there exist super-entropic black holes whose null hypersurface caustics only form inside the Cauchy horizon.

Recently it was discovered that null hypersurfaces can develop caustics outside the event horizon of super-entropic Kerr-AdS black holes, in contrast to the usual Kerr-AdS case. Null Hypersurfaces in Kerr-Newman-AdS Black Hole and Super-Entropic Black Hole Spacetimes

A three-dimensional light-like foliation of a spacetime geometry is one particular way of studying its light cone structure and has important applications in numerical relativity. Smooth null hypersurfaces near the horizon in the presence of tails

Null hypersurfaces in Kerr-(A)dS spacetimes

For many purposes, a three-dimensional foliation of spacetime is more advantageous to understanding its light cone structure. We derive the equations describing such foliations for the Kerr geometry with non-zero cosmological constant, and show that they reduce to null hypersurfaces in vacuum (anti-)de Sitter spacetime in the limit of zero mass. The Poisson bracket on free null initial data for gravity

Free initial data for general relativity on a pair of intersecting null hypersurfaces are well known, but the lack of a Poisson bracket and concerns about caustics have stymied the development of a constraint free canonical theory. Here it is pointed out how caustics and generator crossings can be neatly avoided and a Poisson bracket on free data is given. On sufficiently regular functions of the solution spacetime geometry this bracket matches the Poisson bracket defined on such functions by the Hilbert action via Peierls' prescription. The symplectic form is also given in terms of free data.

Shadowless rapidly rotating yet not ultraspinning Kerr-AdS$_4$ and Kerr-Newman-AdS$_4$ black holes

We find that the Kerr-(Newman)-AdS$_4$ black hole will be shadowless if its rotation parameter is larger than a critical value and the shadowless-ness may be related to the appearance of the null hypersurface caustics (NHC) both inside the Cauchy horizon and outside the event horizon for the black hole with the rotation parameter beyond the critical value. Our studies also further confirm that whether an ultraspinning black hole is super-entropic or not is unrelated to the existence of the NHC outside the event horizon.
