We show using density functional calculations that quasi-one-dimensional K2Mo3As3, which is closely related to the K2Cr3As3 and has very similar superconducting properties, is not close to magnetism and has conventional s-wave electron-phonon superconductivity. This superconductivity is of multi-gap character due to different coupling on different Fermi surface sheets. This is discussed in relation to the properties of this family of quasi-one-dimensional pnictide superconductors. The results show that this family of superconductors provides a unique opportunity for studying the interplay of spin-fluctuations and electron-phonon superconductivity in transition metal pnictides and offer a path for sorting out the different proposed superconducting scenarios in this fascinating family of pnictide superconductors.
In this paper we calculate ab initially the phonon dispersion relationship of the superconductor LaFeAsO and investigate a main property in the superconductor, the oxygen isotope effect. Based on this phonon dispersion relationship, we find the fact that an important reason of the oxygen isotope effect is connected with the phonon. This result agrees well with the experimental data where the power index of the oxygen isotope effect in the superconductor LaFeAsO is small.
Using the Eliashberg strong coupling theory with vertex correction, we calculate maps of transition temperatures (T$_{c}$) of electron-phonon superconductors in full parameter space. The maximums of transition temperatures for superconductors are predicted based on the maps and the criterion of instability of superconductivity. The strong vertex correction and high transition temperature are tightly correlated in superconductors. We predict that the maximum of T$_{c}$ of new iron-based superconductors will be close to 90(K).
We consider tunnel microrefrigerators at low temperature. There is a number of experimental studies performed on microrefrigeration in tunneling superconductor--normal metal (SN) structures. Related to these experiments, only the electron subsystem has been considered theoretically. Independently, the phonon deficit effect has been studied a while ago in superconductor-superconductor tunnel junctions. It can be regarded as a possible prototype scheme for superconducting microrefrigerators. We try to provide the missing link between experiments on the SN tunnel junction refrigerators and the th…
When quasiparticles in a BCS superconductor recombine into Cooper pairs, phonons are emitted within a narrow band of energies above the pairing energy at 2$Δ$. We show that a phonon bandgap restricting the escape of recombination phonons from a superconductor can increase the quasiparticle recombination lifetime by more than an order of magnitude. A phonon bandgap can be realized and matched to the recombination energy with a phononic crystal, a periodically-patterned dielectric membrane. We discuss in detail the non-equilibrium quasiparticle and phonon distributions that arise in a supercondu…
The formula frequently used to describe the c-axis infrared response of the coupled electron-phonon system of bilayer cuprate superconductors and providing important insights into the physics of these materials has been originally obtained at the level of the phenomenological multilayer model. Here we derive it using diagrammatic perturbation theory.
I solved the Eliashberg equations for multiband non-phononic $s\pm$ wave spin glass superconductor and I calculated the temperature dependence of the gaps and superfluid density that reveals unusual behavior as non monotonic temperature dependence and reentrant superconductivity. For particular values of input parameters the phase diagram is still more complex with two different ranges of temperature where the superconductivity appears.
We study the generation of coherent phonons in a superconductor by ultrafast optical pump pulses. The nonequilibrium dynamics of the coupled Bogoliubov quasiparticle-phonon system after excitation with the pump pulse is analyzed by means of the density-matrix formalism with the phonons treated at a full quantum kinetic level. For ultrashort excitation pulses, the superconductor exhibits a nonadiabatic behavior in which the superconducting order parameter oscillates. We find that in this nonadiabatic regime the generation of coherent phonons is resonantly enhanced when the frequency of the orde…
In this publication a microscopic theory for the coupling of intrinsic Josephson oscillations in layered superconductors with longitudinal c-axis-phonons is developed. It is shown that the influence of lattice vibrations on the c-axis transport can be fully described by introducing an effective longitudinal dielectric function. Resonances in the I-V-characteristic appear at van Hove singularities of both acoustical and optical longitudinal phonon branches. This provides a natural explanation of the recently discovered subgap structures in the I-V-characteristic of highly anisotropic cuprate su…
We showed that the all phonons -- not only forward-scattering phonon but also local (all-momentum-scattering) phonon -- contribute to boosting $T_c$ of the $s^{\pm}$-wave pairing state in the incipient band model. In particular, when the incipient band sinks deeper, the phonon boost effect of the local phonon increases and becomes as effective as the one of the forward-scattering phonon. Our finding implies that all interface phonons -- not only the 90 $meV$ Fuchs-Kliewer (F-K) phonon but also the 60 $meV$ F-K phonon -- from the SrTiO$_3$ substrate and all intrinsic phonons of the FeSe monolay…
We investigate the effect of isotope substitution on the electron-phonon interaction in the multi-band superconductor MgB2 using tunable laser based Angle Resolved Photoemission Spectroscopy. The kink structure around 70 meV in the $σ$ band, which is caused by electron coupling to the E2g phonon mode, is shifted to higher binding energy by ~3.5 meV in Mg(10)B2 and the shift is not affected by superconducting transition. These results serve as the benchmark for investigations of isotope effects in known, unconventional superconductors and newly discovered superconductors where the origin of pai…
We predict a strong enhancement of the critical temperature in a conventional Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) superconductor in the presence of a bosonic condensate of exciton-polaritons. The effect depends strongly on the ratio of the cutoff frequencies for phonon and exciton-polariton mediated BCS superconductivity, respectively. We also discuss a possible design of hybrid semiconductor-superconductor structures suitable for the experimental observation of such an effect.
We report a detailed study of specific heat, electrical resistivity and thermal expansion in combination with inelastic neutron and inelastic X-ray scattering to investigate the origin of superconductivity in the two silicon clathrate superconductors Ba8Si46 and Ba24Si100. Both compounds have a similar structure based on encaged barium atoms in oversized silicon cages. However, the transition temperatures are rather different: 8 K and 1.5 K respectively. By extracting the superconducting properties, phonon density of states, electron-phonon coupling function and phonon anharmonicity from these…
Cuprates are promising candidates for study in developing higher temperature superconductors. A thorough understanding of a material's phonon modes enables further investigation of its emergent properties, however, no complete reference of the phonon modes exists. Here, using density functional theory, we evaluate the phonon frequencies and atomic displacements for $\text{La}_2\text{CuO}_4$, $\text{Bi}_2\text{Sr}_2\text{CuO}_6$, and $\text{Bi}_2\text{Sr}_2\text{CaCu}_2\text{O}_8$ in their tetragonal structures. The phonon modes for all materials agree with those expected from space group symme…
Inelastic neutron-scattering experiments have been carried out on polycrystalline samples of the FeSe$_{1-x}$ superconductors. We report the phonon density of states for FeSe$_{1-x}$ with Tc$\approx$8 K. The phonon cutoff frequency is observed around 40 meV. No significant change is observed across the superconducting transition. The measurements support the published first-principles calculations [A. Subedi et al., Phys. Rev. B \textbf{78}, 134514 (2008)].
We calculate the lattice phonons and the electron-phonon coupling of the organic superconductor κ-(BEDT-TTF)_2 I_3, reproducing all available experimental data connected to phonon dynamics. Low-frequency intra-molecular vibrations are strongly mixed to lattice phonons. Both acoustic and optical phonons are appreciably coupled to electrons through the modulation of the hopping integrals (e-LP coupling). By comparing the results relevant to superconducting κ- and β-(BEDT-TTF)_2 I_3, we show that electron-phonon coupling is fundamental to the pairing mechanism. Both e-LP and electron-molecular vi…
Superconductivity in novel bismuth-sulphur superconductors has attracted large research efforts, both experimental and theoretical, but a consensus on the nature of superconductivity in these materials has yet to be reached. Using density functional theory for superconductors, we study the electron-phonon pairing mechanism in LaO$_{0.5}$F$_{0.5}$BiS$_2$. We first confirm the presence of a commensurate charge density wave instability, in accordance with previous studies. Using a recently developed integration scheme for the electron-phonon coupling, we found that its strength is much lower than…
We present an inelastic neutron scattering study of phonon lineshapes in the vortex state of the type-II superconductor YNi$_2$B$_2$C. In a previous study [Phys. Rev. Lett. \textbf{101}, 237002 (2008)] it was shown that certain phonons exhibit a clear signature of the superconducting gap $2Δ$ on entering the superconducting state. Our interest was to find out whether or not the lineshape of such phonons reflects the inhomogeneous nature of the vortex state induced by a magnetic field smaller than the upper critical field $B_{c2}$ .We found that this is indeed the case because the observed phon…
The possibility to reconstruct the electron-phonon interaction (EPI) function was demonstrated for S-c-N and S-c-S point contacts using the superconducting inelastic contribution to the excess current caused by Andreev reflection processes. Superconductors with both weak (Sn, Al) and strong (Pb, In) EPI were considered. It was shown that in the latter case it is necessary to account for the elastic component of current which is related to the frequency dependence of the superconducting energy gap arising due to electron-phonon renormalization of the energy spectrum of the superconductor.
We estimate the effect of the superconducting gap anisotropy in the dispersive gap mode of phonons, which is observed by the neutron scattering on borocarbide superconductors. We numerically analyze the phonon spectrum considering the electron-phonon coupling, and examine contributions coming from the gap suppression and the sign change of the pairing function on the Fermi surface. When the sign of the pairing function is changed by the nesting translation, the gap mode does not appear. We also discuss the suppression of the phonon softening of the Kohn anomaly due to the onset of superconduct…
We investigate the influence of a d-density wave (DDW) gap on the superconductivity-induced renormalization of phonon frequency and linewidth. The results are discussed with respect to Raman and inelastic neutron scattering experiments. It turns out that the DDW gap can enhance the range of frequencies for $q=0$ phonon softening depending on the underlying band structure. Moreover we show that an anisotropic 'd-wave' pseudogap can also contribute to the q-dependent linewidth broadening of the 340cm$^{-1}$ phonon in YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_7$.
In our recent paper we presented empirical evidences suggesting that electrons in cuprate superconductors are strongly coupled to unscreened c-axis polar phonons. In the overdoped regime the c-axis metallizes and we present here simple theoretical arguments demonstrating that the observed effect of the metallic c-axis screening on the polar electron-phonon coupling is consistent with a strongly overdamped c-axis charge dynamics in the optimally doped system, becoming less dissipative in the overdoped regime.
The spectra of the second derivative of tunneling current d^{2}I/dV^{2} in the high-temperature superconductors YBa_{2}Cu_{3}O_{7-δ} and Bi_{2}Sr_{2}CaCu_{2}O_{8+δ} show clear dip and peak features due to strong coupling to the bosonic modes mediating electron pairing. The energies of all the peaks in -d^{2}I/dV^{2}-like spectra match precisely with the energies of the peaks in the phonon density of states obtained by inelastic neutron scattering. The results clearly demonstrate that the bosonic modes mediating the electron pairing are phonons and that high-temperature superconductivity arises…
A softening of phonon-dispersion has been observed experimentally in under-doped cuprate superconductors at the charge-density wave (CDW) ordering wave vector. Interestingly, the softening occurs below the superconducting (SC) transition temperature T$_{c}$, in contrast to the metallic systems, where the softening occurs usually below the CDW onset temperature T$_{\text{CDW}}$. An understanding of the `anomalous' nature of the phonon-softening and its connection to the pseudo-gap phase in under-doped cuprates remain open questions. Within a perturbative approach, we show that a complex interpl…
Superconductivity mediated by phonons is typically conventional, exhibiting a momentum-independent s-wave pairing function, due to the isotropic interactions between electrons and phonons along different crystalline directions. Here, by performing inelastic neutron scattering measurements on a superconducting single crystal of Sr0.1Bi2Se3, a prime candidate for realizing topological superconductivity by doping the topological insulator Bi2Se3, we find that there exist highly anisotropic phonons, with the linewidths of the acoustic phonons increasing substantially at long wavelengths, but only …
We report an inelastic neutron scattering investigation of phonons with energies up to 159 meV in the conventional superconductor YNi$_2$B$_2$C. Using the SWEEP mode, a newly developed time-of-flight technique involving the continuous rotation of a single crystal specimen, allowed us to measure a four dimensional volume in (Q,E) space and, thus, determine the dispersion surface and linewidths of the $A_{1g}$ (~ 102 meV) and $A_u$ (~ 159 meV) type phonon modes for the whole Brillouin zone. Despite of having linewidths of $Γ= 10 meV$, $A_{1g}$ modes do not strongly contribute to the total electr…
Very recently a new family of layered materials, containing BiS2 planes was discovered to be superconducting at temperatures up to Tc=10 K, raising questions about the mechanism of superconductivity in these systems. Here, we present state-of-the-art first principles calculations that directly address this question and reveal several surprising findings. The parent compound LaOBiS2 possesses anharmonic ferroelectric soft phonons at the zone center with a rather large polarization of $\approx 10 μC/cm^2$, which is comparable to the well-known ferroelectric BiFeO3. Upon electron doping, new unst…
Temperature and composition dependences of high-energy longitudinal optical (LO) phonons in YBa2Cu3O{6+x}, studied by inelastic neutron scattering measurements, provide clear evidence for temperature dependent spatial inhomogeneity of doped charges. The measurements indicate that charge doping increases the volume fraction of the charged regions, while the local charge density remains unchanged. For the optimally doped sample the charge distribution changes sharply near the superconducting transition temperature, with stronger charge inhomogeneity below Tc. The remarkable magnitude of the phon…
The application of inhomogeneous niobium point-contacts in the superconducting stata for reconstructing the electron-phonon interaction function is considered. The method is based on the use of the nonlinearity of current-voltage curve, which is due to the inelastic processes of suppressing excess point contact current when nonequilibrium phonons are scattered from the electrons undergoing Andreev reflection. A new model of background occurrence in point-contact Yanson spectra and some ways to correct this background are proposed.
We show that the phase information contained in coherent phonon oscillations generated by a laser pulse in a multi- orbital superconductor can be used as an experimental tool to probe super- conductivity and pairing symmetries. The phase difference between the normal and superconducting states is proportional to the superconducting order parameter just below the superconducting transition temperature, Tc. It also exhibits different behaviors for superconducting states with different pairing symmetries. In particular, if there is an orbital-dependent internal sign change state, the phase differ…
The magnetic moment in the parent phase of the iron-pnictide superconductors varies with composition even when the nominal charge of iron is unchanged. We propose the spin-lattice coupling due to the magneto-volume effect as the primary origin of this effect, and formulate a Landau theory to describe the dependence of the moment to the Fe-As layer separation. We then compare the superconductive critical temperature of doped iron pnictides to the local moment predicted by the theory, and suggest that the spin-phonon coupling may play a role in the superconductivity of this compound.
Superconductivity in some metals at low temperature is known to arise from an electron-phonon coupling mechanism. Such the mechanism enables an effective attraction to bind two mobile electrons together, and even form a kind of pairing system(called Cooper pair) to be physically responsible for superconductivity. But, is it possible by an analogy with the electrodynamics to describe the electron-phonon coupling as a resistivity-dependent attraction? Actually so, it will help us to explore a more operational quantum model for the formation of Cooper pair. In particularly, by the calculation of …
We report first-principles calculations of the superconducting properties of $β$--Bi$_2$Pd within the fully anisotropic Migdal-Eliashberg formalism. We find a single anisotropic superconducting gap of $s$--wave symmetry which varies in magnitude on the different regions of the Fermi surface. The calculated superconducting energy gap on the Fermi surface, the superconducting transition temperature, the specific heat, and the quasi-particle density of states are in good agreement with the corresponding experimental results and support the view that $β$--Bi$_2$Pd is a phonon-mediated single aniso…
Inelastic light scattering studies on single crystal of electron-doped Ca(Fe0.95Co0.05)2As2 superconductor, covering the tetragonal to orthorhombic structural transition as well as magnetic transition at TSM ~ 140 K and superconducting transition temperature Tc ~ 23 K, reveal evidence for superconductivity-induced phonon renormalization; in particular the phonon mode near 260 cm-1 shows hardening below Tc, signaling its coupling with the superconducting gap. All the three Raman active phonon modes show anomalous temperature dependence between room temperature and Tc i.e phonon frequency decrea…
Fine structures in the tunneling spectra of superconductors have been widely used to identify fingerprints of the interaction responsible for Cooper pairing. Here we show that for scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) of Pb, the inclusion of inelastic tunneling processes is crucial for the proper interpretation of these fine structures. For STM the usual McMillan inversion algorithm of tunneling spectra must therefore be modified to include inelastic tunneling events, an insight that is crucial for the identification of the pairing glue in conventional and unconventional superconductors alike.
The isotope effect in the superconducting transition temperature is anomalous if the isotope coefficient $α<0$ or $α>1/2$. In this work, we show that such anomalous behaviors can naturally arise within the Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer framework if both phonon and non-phonon modes coexist. Different from the case of the standard Eliashberg theory (with only phonon) in which $α\le1/2$, the isotope coefficient can now take arbitrary values in the simultaneous presence of phonon and the other non-phonon mode. In particular, most strikingly, a pair-breaking phonon can give rise to large isotope coeffi…
We systematically explore the exquisiteness of Bardeen-Cooper-Schriefer(BCS) theory where the BCS-type electron-phonon interaction is unambiguously reinforced as the only viable superglue in cuprate superconductors because phonon-induced scattering is effectively nil for Cooper pairs (in its original form), and also phonons are never required to Bose-condense. Here, we prove that (i) the Cooper-pair binding energy can be strengthened to obtain high superconductor transition temperature (Tsc) and (ii) the existence of a generalized electron-phonon potential operator that can induce the finite-t…
The phonon contribution to the thermal conductivity at low temperature in superconductors with line nodes is calculated assuming that scattering by both nodal quasiparticles and the sample boundaries is significant. It is determined that, within the regime in which the quasiparticles are in the universal limit and the phonon attenuation is in the hydrodynamic limit, there exists a wide temperature range over which the phonon thermal conductivity varies as $T^2$. This behaviour comes from the fact that transverse phonons propagating along certain directions do not interact with nodal quasiparti…
We report first principles calculations of the electronic structure, phonon dispersions and electron phonon coupling of LaNiPO. These calculations show that this material can be explained as a conventional electron phonon superconductor in contrast to the FeAs based high temperature superconductors.
We determined electronic relaxation times via pump-probe optical spectroscopy using sub-15 fs pulses for the normal state of two different cuprate superconductors. We show that the primary relaxation process is the electron-phonon interaction and extract a measure of its strength, the second moment of the Eliashberg functionλ<ω^{2}>=800\pm200 meV^{2} for La_{1.85}Sr_{0.15}CuO_{4} and λ<ω^{2}>=400\pm100 meV^{2} for YBa_{2}Cu_{3}O_{6.5}. These values suggest a possible fundamental role of the electron-phonon interaction in the superconducting pairing mechanism.
The coupling of Fe magnetic moments in LaFeAsO$_{1-x}$F$_{x}$ with the As $A_{1g}$ phonon is calculated. We present first principles calculations of the atomic and electronic structure of LaFeAsO as a function of electron doping. We perform calculations using the virtual crystal approximation as well as supercell calculations with F substitutional impurity atoms. The results validate the virtual crystal approximation for the electronic structure near the Fermi level. Its is found that the electronic density of states at the Fermi level is maximum for x=0.125, enhancing the electron-phonon inte…
We performed a Raman scattering study of thin films of LiTi$_2$O$_4$ spinel oxide superconductor. We detected four out of five Raman active modes, with frequencies in good accordance with our first-principles calculations. Three T$_{2g}$ modes show a Fano lineshape from 5 K to 295 K, which suggests an electron-phonon coupling in LiTi$_2$O$_4$. Interestingly, the electron-phonon coupling shows an anomaly across the negative to positive magnetoresistance transition at 50 K, which may be due to the unset of other competing orders. The strength of the electron-phonon interaction estimated from the…
The lattice dynamics and the effect of pressure on superconducting LiFeAs in both nonmagnetic (NM) and striped antiferromagnetic (SAF) phases are investigated using the plane-wave pseudopotential, density-functional-based method. While the obtained electron-phonon coupling $λ$ is very small for the NM calculation, the softening of phonon in the SAF phase may lead to a large increase in $λ$. In the SAF phase, strong anisotropy of the phonon softening in the Fe plane is found to arise from different spin orders in the $x$ and $y$ directions, indicating that the phonon softening is of spin-phonon…
The recently reported subgap structures observed in the current-voltage characteristic of intrinsic Josephson junctions in the high-T_c superconductors Tl_2Ba_2Ca_2Cu_3O_{10+δ} and Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O_{8+δ} are explained by the coupling between c-axis phonons and Josephson oscillations. A model is developed where c-axis lattice vibrations between adjacent superconducting multilayers are excited by the Josephson oscillations in a resistive junction. The voltages of the lowest structures correspond well to the frequencies of longitudinal c-axis phonons with large oscillator strength in the two mater…
We show that recent ARPES results on the "unusual" oxygen isotope shift in the real part of the self-energy in the optimally doped $Bi2212$ samples can be qualitatively (and semi-quantitatively) explained by the theory of the electron-phonon interaction (EPI) elaborated few decades ago. However, for a quantitative analysis of the ARPES spectra it is necessary to know the momentum dependence of the EPI, the Coulomb contribution at high energies and the background due to impurities and defects.
The attempt to understand cuprate superconductors is complicated by the presence of multiple strong interactions. While many believe that antiferromagnetism is important for the superconductivity, there has been revived interest in the role of electron-lattice coupling. The recently studied conventional superconductor MgB2 has a very strong electron-lattice coupling, involving a particular vibrational mode (phonon), that was predicted by standard theory and confirmed quantitatively by experiment. Here we present inelastic scattering measurements that show a similarly strong anomaly in the Cu-O…
We show that the electron-phonon coupling (EPC) in many materials can be significantly underestimated by the standard density functional theory (DFT) in the local density approximation (LDA) due to large non-local correlation effects. We present a simple yet efficient methodology to evaluate the realistic EPC going beyond LDA by using more advanced and accurate GW and screened hybrid functional DFT approaches. The corrections we propose explain the extraordinarily high superconducting temperatures that are observed in two distinct classes of compounds-the bismuthates and the transition metal c…
We have investigated electronic structures and phonon spectra of newly discovered isostructural superconductors LaNiBN (T_c = 4.1 K) and LaPtBN (T_c = 6.7 K). We have found that their electronic structures are substantially three-dimensional, leading to metallicity both in NiB (PtB) and the intervening LaN layers. Our ab initio phonon calculations show that almost all phonon modes contribute to the electron-phonon coupling (EPC) mechanism, reflecting that both layers are involved in the superconductivity. For LaNiBN, we obtain an EPC strength of λ= 0.52 and a logarithmically averaged character…
We study the electronic states and the superconductivity in the two-dimensional 16-band d-p model coupled with A1g, B1g and Eg local phonons and obtain the rich phase diagram including the magnetic, charge and orbital ordered phases on the parameter plane of the Coulomb and electron-phonon interactions. When the electron-phonon interaction is dominant, the charge fluctuations induce the s++ wave superconductivity, while when the Coulomb interaction is dominant, the magnetic fluctuations induce the s+- wave superconductivity. Remarkably, the orbital fluctuations are enhanced due to the cooperat…
The results on the behavior of phase-slip centers in thin superconducting wires based on finite-element modeling and time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau (TDGL) equations are discussed. For closer relationship with experiments, we used finite-gap formulation of the TDGL system. Both the dynamic equation for the Cooper-pair condensate wave-function and the expression for the electric current are more complex than in the gapless case. On this basis, the influence of nonequilibrium phonons is explored. These phonons can essentially change the location of geometrical points in which the phase slippage t…
We review recent work on the theory for pump/probe photoemission spectroscopy of electron-phonon mediated superconductors in both the normal and the superconducting states. We describe the formal developments that allow one to solve the Migdal-Eliashberg theory in nonequilibrium for an ultrashort laser pumping field, and explore the solutions which illustrate the relaxation as energy is transferred from electrons to phonons. We focus on exact results emanating from sum rules and approximate numerical results which describe rules of thumb for relaxation processes. In addition, in the supercondu…
We report temperature-dependent Raman spectra of CeFeAsO0.9F0.1 from 4 K to 300 K in spectral range of 60 to 1800 cm-1 and interpret them using estimates of phonon frequencies obtained from first-principles density functional calculations. We find evidence for a strong coupling between the phonons and crystal field excitations; in particular Ce3+ crystal field excitation at 432 cm-1 couples strongly with Eg oxygen vibration at 389 cm-1 . Below the superconducting transition temperature, the phonon mode near 280 cm-1 shows softening, signaling its coupling with the superconducting gap. The rati…
We present an extension of the model proposed recently to account for dramatic changes below Tc (anomalies) of some c-axis polarized infrared-active phonons in bilayer cuprate superconductors, that applies to trilayer high-Tc compounds. We discuss several types of phonon anomalies that can occur in these systems and demonstrate that our model is capable of explaining the spectral changes occurring upon entering the superconducting state in the trilayer compound Tl2Ba2Ca2Cu3O10. The low-temperature spectra of this compound obtained by Zetterer and coworkers display an additional broad absorptio…
Effect of tetragonal distortion on the electronic structure, dynamical properties and superconductivity in Mo$_3$Sb$_7$ is analyzed using first principles electronic structure and phonon calculations. Rigid muffin tin approximation (RMTA) and McMillan formulas are used to calculate the electron-phonon coupling constant $λ$ and superconducting critical temperature. Our results show, that tetragonal distortion has small, but beneficial effect on superconductivity, slightly increasing $λ$, and the conclusion that the electron-phonon mechanism is responsible for the superconductivity in Mo$_3$Sb$_…
Recently it has been suggested that the role of electron-phonon coupling in the mechanism of iron-based superconductors may have been underestimated and that the antiferromagnetism and the induced xy potential may even have a dramatic amplification effect on electron-phonon coupling. To substantiate the recently announced xy potential in the literature, we create a two-channel model to separately superimpose the dynamics of the electron in the upper and lower tetrahedral plane. The results of our two-channel model support the literature data. While the scientists are still searching for a univ…
We calculate the tunneling density of states (DOS) of MgB2 for different tunneling directions, by directly solving the real-axis, two-band Eliashberg equations (EE). Then we show that the numeric inversion of the standard single-band EE, if applied to the DOS of the two-band superconductor MgB2, may lead to wrong estimates of the strength of certain phonon branches (e.g. the E_2g) in the extracted electron-phonon spectral function alpha^(2)F(omega). The fine structures produced by the two-band interaction turn out to be clearly observable only for tunneling along the ab planes in high-quality …
The exact formula of Tc's equation and the isotope effect exponent of two-band s-wave superconductors in weak-coupling limit are derived by considering the influence of interband interaction. The paring interaction in each band consisted of 2 parts : the electron-phonon interaction and non-phonon interaction are included in our model. The isotope effect exponent of MgB2 equal to 0.3 with Tc 40 K can be found in the weak coupling regime and interband interaction of electron-phonon interaction show more effect on isotope effect exponent than of non-phonon interaction.
Electronic structure of a novel superconducting noncentrosymmetric compound Mg10Ir19B16 was calculated using the Korringa-Kohn-Rostoker method. Electronic part of the electron-phonon coupling constant, McMillan-Hopfield parameters, were calculated using the rigid-muffin-tin approximation (RMTA). The magnitude of the electron-phonon coupling constant, analysing atomic contributions, is discussed. Our results show, that superconductivity in Mg10Ir19B16 is presumably mediated by electron-phonon interaction.
