We revisit the Parikh-Wilczek's tunneling model of Hawking radiation in the Schwarzschild black hole with soft hair. Unlike the no-hair black hole, tunneling through the degenerate event horizon generated by supertranslation hair picks up an angular dependence, which suggests a hairy modification to the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy. At last, we discuss several implications and possible observable of soft hair.
Stealth field configurations by definition have a vanishing energy-momentum tensor, thus do not contribute to the gravitational field equations. While only trivial fields can be stealth in Maxwell's electrodynamics, nontrivial stealth fields appear in some nonlinear models of electromagnetism. We find the necessary and sufficient conditions for the electromagnetic fields to be stealth and analyse which models admit such configurations. Furthermore, we present some concrete exact solutions, featuring a class of black holes dressed with the stealth electromagnetic hair, closely related to force-…
Phase transitions in charged topological black holes dressed with a scalar field are studied. These black holes are solutions of the Einstein-Maxwell theory with a negative cosmological constant and a conformally coupled real self-interacting scalar field. Comparing, in the grand canonical ensemble, the free energies of the hairy and undressed black holes two different phase transitions are found. The first of them is one of second-order type and it occurs at a temperature defined by the value of the cosmological constant. Below this temperature an undressed black hole spontaneously acquires a…
In this paper, we study the Hawking radiation of Dirac particles via tunneling formalism from linearly supertranslated Schwarzschild black hole. We find that the radiation spectrum and the Hawking temperature remain the same as the one without soft hair. We extend the same analysis to the linearly supertranslated Vaidya black hole and find that particles can not tunnel through the horizon from the inside. We further comment on the validity of tunneling formalism in the study of Hawking radiation of dynamical black hole.
We develop a unified framework for the construction of soft dressings at boundaries of spacetime, such as the null infinity of Minkowski spacetime and the horizon of a Schwarzschild black hole. The construction is based on an old proposal of Mandelstam for quantizing QED and considers matter fields dressed by Wilson lines. Along time-like paths, the Wilson lines puncturing the boundary are the analogs of flat space Faddeev-Kulish dressings. We focus on the Schwarzschild black hole where our framework provides a quantum-field-theoretical perspective of the Hawking-Perry-Strominger viewpoint tha…
For Hawking radiation, treated as a tunneling process, the no-hair theorem of black hole together with the law of energy conservation is utilized to postulate that the tunneling rate only depends on the external qualities (e.g., the mass for the Schwarzschild black hole) and the energy of the radiated particle. This postulate is justified by the WKB approximation for calculating the tunneling probability. Based on this postulate, a general formula for the tunneling probability is derived without referring to the concrete form of black hole metric. This formula implies an intrinsic correlation …
As incarnations of gravity in its prime, black holes are arguably the best target for us to demystify gravity. Keeping in mind the prominent role black holes play in gravitational wave astronomy, it becomes a must for a theory to possess black hole solutions with only measurable departures from their general relativity counterparts. In this paper, we present black holes in a tensor-vector-scalar representation of relativistic modified Newtonian dynamics. We find that the theory allows Schwarzschild and nearly-Schwarzschild black holes as solutions, while the nontrivial scalar and vector fields…
We consider $f(R)$ gravity theories in the presence of a scalar field minimally coupled to gravity with a self-interacting potential in $(2+1)$-dimensions. Without specifying the form of the $f(R)$ function, we first obtain an exact black hole solution dressed with scalar hair with the scalar charge to appear in the $f(R)$ function and we discuss its thermodynamics. This solution at large distances gives a hairy BTZ black hole, and it reduces to the BTZ black hole when the scalar field decouples. In a pure $f(R)$ gravity supported by the scalar field, we find an exact hairy black hole similar …
A recent, intriguing paper by Hawking, Perry and Strominger suggests that soft photons and gravitons can be regarded as black hole hair and may be relevant to the black hole information paradox. In this note we make use of factorization theorems for infrared divergences of the S-matrix to argue that by appropriately dressing in and out hard states, the soft-quanta-dependent part of the S-matrix becomes essentially trivial. The information paradox can be fully formulated in terms of dressed hard states, which do not depend on soft quanta.
Black brane solutions with scalar hair and with non-AdS asymptotics have several features that make them very interesting for holographic applications: (1) They allow to circumvent usual no-hair theorems; (2) They may have a non singular extremal limit in the form of a scalar soliton that interpolates between AdS and non-AdS vacua; (3) They allow for phase transitions between the Schwarzschild-AdS (SADS) and scalar dressed black branes; (4) They give an holographic realization of hyperscaling violation in critical systems. In this note I illustrate these features using an exact integrable Eins…
We develop a new technique for finding black hole solutions in modified gravity that have "stealth" hair, i.e., hair whose only gravitational effect is to tune the cosmological constant. We consider scalar-tensor theories in which gravitational waves propagate at the speed of light, and show that Einstein metrics can be painted with stealth hair provided there exists a family of geodesics always normal to spacelike surfaces. We also present a novel scalar-dressed rotating black hole that has finite scalar field at both the black hole and cosmological event horizons.
The horizon structure and thermodynamics of hairy spherically symmetric black holes generated by the gravitational decoupling method are carefully investigated. The temperature and heat capacity of the black hole is determined, as well as how the hairy parameters affect the thermodynamics. It allows the analysis of the thermal stability and the possible existence of a remanent black hole. We also calculate the Hawking radiation corrected by the generalized uncertainty principle. For such we consider the emission of fermions and apply the tunneling method to the generalized Dirac equation. It s…
In this paper, we considered new solutions for four-dimensional asymptotically AdS black holes with scalar hair and discuss about Hawking temperature in the context of dark energy by using the tunneling method. We obtain modification of the Hawking temperature due to presence of the dark energy.
A static spherically symmetric black hole usually turns out to be either a Schwarzschild black hole or a Reissner-Nordström black hole. This result was summarised by Ruffini and Wheeler as the so-called no hair conjecture which states that for a spherically symmetric black hole only the information about mass ($M$) and electric charge ($e$) of the black hole is available for an external observer. In this work, we calculate the emission rate of charged particles from an asymptotically flat charged spherically symmetric black hole endowed with a scalar hair using a semi-classical tunneling forma…
In this paper we study the properties of black holes and scalarons in Einstein gravity when it is minimally coupled to a scalar field $ϕ$ with an asymmetric potential $V(ϕ)$, constructed in [Phys. Rev. D \textbf{73} (2006), 084002] a few decades ago. $V(ϕ)$ has been applied in the cosmology to describe the quantum tunneling process from the false vacuum to the true vacuum and contains a local maximum, a local minimum (false vacuum) and a global minimum (true vacuum). In particular we focus on the asymptotically flat solutions, which can be constructed by fixing appropriately the local minimum …

In this talk, we recall the most important features of the Dilatonic Black Holes which arise in the framework of the Einstein-Dilaton-Gauss-Bonnet theory and which are dressed with a classical long range dilaton field in contradiction with the existing "no-hair" theorems of the Theory of General Relativity. We demonstrate linear stability of these black hole solutions under small spacetime-dependent perturbations by making use of a semi-analytic method based on the Fubini-Sturm's theorem. As a result, the Dilatonic Black Holes constitute one of the very few examples of stable black hole soluti…
We consider a self-interacting, massive scalar field (non)minimally coupled to new massive gravity in three dimensions. For this model, we first derive a family of black hole solutions depending on a unique integration constant and parameterized in terms of the nonminimal coupling parameter. Imposing the absence of naked singularities restricts the parameters in such a way that the field vanishes at infinity and fixes the metric to be asymptotically AdS. Within this family of solutions it is possible to find a black hole supported by a minimally coupled scalar field and therefore the existence…
Electrically charged solutions for gravity with a conformally coupled scalar field are found in four dimensions in the presence of a cosmological constant. If a quartic self-interaction term for the scalar field is considered, there is a solution describing an asymptotically locally AdS charged black hole dressed with a scalar field that is regular on and outside the event horizon, which is a surface of negative constant curvature. This black hole can have negative mass, which is bounded from below for the extremal case, and its causal structure shows that the solution describes a "black hole …
Parikh and Wilczek formulated Hawking radiation as quantum tunneling across the event horizon proving the spectrum to be nonthermal. These nonthermality factors emerging due to back reaction effects have been claimed to be responsible for correlations among the emitted quanta. It has been proposed by several authors in literature that these correlations actually carry out information locked in a black hole and hence provide a resolution to the long debated black hole information paradox. This paper demonstrates that this is a fallacious proposition. Finally, it formulates the implications of t…
For a static and spherically symmetric black hole, a photon sphere is composed of circular null geodesics of fixed radius, and plays an important role in observing the black hole. Recently, in an Einstein-Maxwell-scalar model with a non-minimal coupling between the scalar and electromagnetic fields, a class of hairy black holes has been found to possess two unstable and one stable circular null geodesics on the equatorial plane, corresponding to three photon spheres outside the event horizon. In this paper, we study quasinormal modes of the scalar field, which are associated with these circula…
It has long been known that no static, spherically symmetric, asymptotically flat Klein-Gordon scalar field configuration surrounding a nonrotating black hole can exist in general relativity. In a series of previous papers we proved that, at the effective level, this no-hair theorem can be circumvented by relaxing the staticity assumption: for appropriate model parameters there are quasi-bound scalar field configurations living on a fixed Schwarzschild background which, although not being strictly static, have a larger lifetime than the age of the universe. This situation arises when the mass …
We consider three-dimensional gravity with negative cosmological constant in the presence of a scalar and an Abelian gauge field. Both fields are conformally coupled to gravity, the scalar field through a nonminimal coupling with the curvature and the gauge field by means of a Lagrangian given by a power of the Maxwell one. A sixth-power self-interaction potential, which does not spoil conformal invariance is also included in the action. Using a circularly symmetric ansatz, we obtain black hole solutions dressed with the scalar and gauge fields, which are regular on and outside the event horiz…
