We present predictions for the gluon-fusion Higgs $p_T$ spectrum at third resummed and fixed order (N$^3$LL$'+$N$^3$LO) including fiducial cuts as required by experimental measurements at the Large Hadron Collider. Integrating the spectrum, we predict for the first time the total fiducial cross section to third order (N$^3$LO) and improved by resummation. The N$^3$LO correction is enhanced by cut-induced logarithmic effects and is not reproduced by the inclusive N$^3$LO correction times a lower-order acceptance. These are the highest-order predictions of their kind achieved so far at a hadron collider.
We present high-accuracy QCD predictions for the transverse-momentum ($q_T$) distribution and fiducial cross sections of Drell-Yan lepton pairs produced in hadronic collisions. At small value of $q_T$ we resum to all perturbative orders the logarithmically enhanced contributions up to next-to-next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic (N$^3$LL) accuracy, including all the next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order (N$^3$LO) (i.e. $\mathcal{O}(α_S^3)$) terms. Our resummed calculation has been implemented in the public numerical program DYTurbo, which produces fast and precise predictions with the full depe…
Measurement at Hadron colliders of neutral- and charged-current Drell-Yan production provide essential constraints in the determination of parton distribution functions. Experimentally, they have reached percent level precision, challenging the accuracy of the theoretical predictions. In this work we benchmark the novel implementation in $\texttt{DYTurbo}$ of linear fiducial power corrections in the $q_T$-subtraction formalism at NLO and NNLO in QCD. We illustrate how the inclusion of linear fiducial power corrections impacts predictions for precise $W$ and $Z$ measurements from the LHC and af…
Kinematic selection cuts and isolation requirements are a necessity in experimental measurements for identifying prompt leptons and photons that originate from the hard-interaction process of interest. We analyze how such cuts affect the application of the $q_T$ and $N$-jettiness subtraction methods for fixed-order calculations. We consider both fixed-cone and smooth-cone isolation methods. We find that kinematic selection and isolation cuts both induce parametrically enhanced power corrections with considerably slower convergence compared to the standard power corrections that are already pre…
Fixed-order perturbative calculations of fiducial cross sections for two-body decay processes at colliders show disturbing sensitivity to unphysically low momentum scales and, in the case of $H\to γγ$ in gluon fusion, poor convergence. Such problems have their origins in an interplay between the behaviour of standard experimental cuts at small transverse momenta ($p_t$) and logarithmic perturbative contributions. We illustrate how this interplay leads to a factorially divergent structure in the perturbative series that sets in already from the first orders. We propose simple modifications of f…
In these proceedings we study various sources of theoretical uncertainty in the Drell-Yan $p_T^{\ell\ell}$ spectrum focussing on the $p_T^{\ell\ell} \lesssim 100\, {\rm GeV}$ region. We consider several perturbative aspects related to the choice of the scale setting adopted in resummed calculations, and we assess their impact on the theoretical prediction both for the differential $p_T^{\ell\ell}$ spectrum and for the $\rm{N}^3\rm{LO}$ fiducial cross section. For both quantities, we find the results obtained with the different setups to be compatible with each other within the quoted uncertain…
We present a study at next-to-leading-order (NLO) of the process $pp \to W^\pm Z \to \ell ν_l \ell'^+ \ell'^-$, where $\ell,\ell' =e, μ$, at the Large Hadron Collider. We include the full NLO QCD corrections and the NLO electroweak (EW) corrections in the double-pole approximation. We define eight fiducial polarization coefficients directly constructed from the polar-azimuthal angular distribution of the decay leptons. These coefficients depend strongly on the kinematical cuts on the transverse momentum or rapidity of the individual leptons. Similarly, fiducial polarization fractions are also …
Drell-Yan production is one of the precision cornerstones of the LHC, serving as calibration for measurements such as the $W$-boson mass. Its extreme precision at the level of 1% challenges theory predictions at the highest level. We present the first independent calculation of Drell-Yan production at order $α_s^3$ in transverse-momentum ($q_T$) resummation improved perturbation theory. Our calculation reaches the state-of-the-art through inclusion of the recently published four loop rapidity anomalous dimension and three loop massive axial-vector contributions. We compare to the most recent d…
We consider QCD radiative corrections to the production of four charged leptons in the ZZ signal region at the LHC. We report on the complete calculation of the next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) corrections to this process in QCD perturbation theory. Numerical results are presented for $\sqrt{s}=8$ TeV, using typical selection cuts applied by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations. The NNLO corrections increase the NLO fiducial cross section by about $15\%$, and they have a relatively small impact on the shape of the considered kinematical distributions. In the case of the $ΔΦ$ distribution of th…
We consider QCD radiative corrections to $W^+W^-$ production at the LHC and present the first fully differential predictions for this process at next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) in perturbation theory. Our computation consistently includes the leptonic decays of the $W$ bosons, taking into account spin correlations, off-shell effects and non-resonant contributions. Detailed predictions are presented for the different-flavour channel $pp\toμ^+e^-ν_μ{\bar ν}_e+X$ at $\sqrt{s}=8$ and $13$ TeV. In particular, we discuss fiducial cross sections and distributions in the presence of standard sele…
We consider Drell-Yan production $pp\to V^* X \to L X$ at small $q_T \ll Q$. Experimental measurements require fiducial cuts on the leptonic state $L$, which introduce enhanced, linear power corrections in $q_T/Q$. We show that they can be unambiguously predicted from factorization, and resummed to the same order as the leading-power contribution. We thus obtain predictions for the fiducial $q_T$ spectrum to N3LL and next-to-leading-power in $q_T/Q$. Matching to full NNLO ($α_s^2$), we find that the linear power corrections are indeed the dominant ones, and the remaining fixed-order correction…
The perturbative description of certain differential distributions across a wide kinematic range requires the matching of fixed-order perturbation theory with resummation of large logarithmic corrections to all orders. We present precise matched predictions for transverse-momentum distributions in Higgs boson (H) and Drell-Yan pair (DY) production as well as for the closely related ${ϕ^{*}_η}$ distribution at the LHC. The calculation is exclusive in the Born kinematics, and allows for arbitrary fiducial selection cuts on the decay products of the colour singlets, which is of primary relevance …
We present state-of-the-art predictions for transverse observables relevant to colour-singlet production at the LHC, in particular the transverse momentum of the colour singlet in gluon-fusion Higgs production and in neutral Drell-Yan lepton-pair production, as well as the $ϕ^*_η$ observable in Drell Yan. We perform a next-to-next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic (N$^3$LL) resummation of such observables in momentum space according to the RadISH formalism, consistently including in our prediction all constant terms of relative order $α_s^3$ with respect to the Born, thereby achieving N$^3$LL$^\p…
We compute the next-to-next-to-leading order QCD corrections to Higgs boson production in weak boson fusion followed by its decay to a $b\bar b$ pair or to a pair of leptonically-decaying $W$ bosons. Our calculation allows us to compute realistic fiducial cross sections and assess the impact of fiducial cuts applied to the Higgs boson decay products on the magnitude of QCD radiative corrections in weak boson fusion.
We consider higher-order QCD corrections to the production of high-mass systems in hadron collisions within the transverse-momentum (q$_{\rm T}$) subtraction formalism. We present a method to consistently remove the linear power corrections in q$_{\rm T}$ which appears when fiducial kinematical cuts are applied on the final state system. We consider explicitly the case of fiducial cross sections for Drell-Yan lepton pair production at the Large Hadron Collider up to next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order (N$^3$LO) in QCD. We have implemented our method within the DYTurbo numerical program and w…
We report on the first fully differential calculation for $W^\pm Z$ production in hadron collisions up to next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) in QCD perturbation theory. Leptonic decays of the $W$ and $Z$ bosons are consistently taken into account, i.e. we include all resonant and non-resonant diagrams that contribute to the process $pp\to \ell^{'\pm} ν_{\ell^{'}} \ell^+\ell^-+X$ both in the same-flavour ($\ell'=\ell$) and the different-flavour ($\ell'\neq \ell$) channel. Fiducial cross sections and distributions are presented in the presence of standard selection cuts applied in the experime…
We consider the transverse-momentum ($p_T$) distribution of $Zγ$ pairs produced in hadronic collisions. Logarithmically enhanced contributions at small $p_T$ are resummed to all orders in QCD perturbation theory and combined with the fixed-order prediction. We achieve the most advanced prediction for the $Zγ$ $p_T$ spectrum by matching next-to-next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic (N$^3$LL) resummation to the integrated cross section at next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO). By considering $\ell^+\ell^-γ$ production at the fully differential level, including spin correlations, interferences and o…
The Mueller-Navelet di-jet production process represents an ultimate testfield of pQCD in the high-energy limit. Several experimental analyses carried out so far are in good agreement with theoretical predictions, based on collinear factorization and BFKL resummation of energy logarithms in the next-to-leading approximation, with the CMS experimental data at center-of-mass energy equal to 7 TeV. However, the question if the same data can be described also by fixed-order perturbative approaches has not yet been fully answered. We discuss how the use of partially asymmetric cuts in the transvers…
We report on a fully differential next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) calculation of s-channel single top (anti-)quark production with a semi-leptonic decay at the LHC, neglecting the color correlation between the light and heavy quark lines and in the narrow width approximation. The NNLO corrections can increase the cross section by about 10% in the low transverse momentum region of the top quark and reduce scale variation uncertainty. In order to compare with experimental results without unfolding procedures, we also present theoretical predictions with fiducial cuts, including total cross …
We consider the transverse-momentum ($q_T$) distribution of Drell-Yan lepton pairs produced, via $W$ and $Z/γ^*$ decay, in hadronic collisions. At small values of $q_T$, we resum the logarithmically-enhanced perturbative QCD contributions up to next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy. Resummed results are consistently combined with the known ${\mathcal O}(α_S^2)$ fixed-order results at intermediate and large values of $q_T$. Our calculation includes the leptonic decay of the vector boson with the corresponding spin correlations, the finite-width effects and the full dependence on the fina…
Equivalent photon approximation is used to calculate fiducial cross sections for dimuon production in ultraperipheral proton-proton and lead-lead collisions. Analytical formulae taking into account experimental cuts are derived. The results are compared with the measurements reported by the ATLAS collaboration.
We consider Drell-Yan lepton pairs produced in hadronic collisions. We present high-accuracy QCD predictions for the transverse-momentum ($q_T$) distribution and fiducial cross sections in the small $q_T$ region. We resum to all perturbative orders the logarithmically enhanced contributions up to the next-to-next-to-next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic (N$^4$LL) accuracy and we include the hard-virtual coefficient at the next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order (N$^3$LO) (i.e. $\mathcal{O}(α_S^3)$) with an approximation of the N$^4$LO coefficients. The massive axial-vector and vector contributions…

We compute the next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD corrections to the $gg \to W^+ W^- \to l^+_1 ν_1 l^-_2 \bar ν_2$ process, mediated by a massless quark loop, at the LHC. This process first contributes to the hadroproduction of $W^+W^-$ at $\mathcal{O}(α_s^2)$, but, nevertheless, has a sizable impact on the total production rate. We find that the NLO QCD corrections to the $gg \to W^+W^-$ process amount to ${\cal O}(50)$%, and increase the NNLO QCD cross sections of $pp \to W^+W^-$ by approximately two percent, at both the 8 TeV and 13 TeV LHC. We also compute the NLO corrections to gluonic $W^+W…
In this work we calculate and provide precise predictions for the signature that is typically exploited at the LHC for the measurement of t-channel single-top production: 1 lepton, 1 light jet, 1 b-jet, missing-ET and no additional jets or leptons. We apply the cuts that define the fiducial region and we take into account all the contributions to this signature; not only those from resonant t-channel single-top production. On the one hand, we calculate the complete-NLO corrections, i.e., all NLO effects of QCD and EW origin. On the other hand, we study in detail the impact of a QCD parton show…
The production of hard photons in hadronic collisions is studied using Soft-Collinear Effective Theory (SCET). This is the first application of SCET to a physical, observable cross section involving energetic partons in more than two directions. A factorization formula is derived which involves a non-trivial interplay of the angular dependence in the hard and soft functions, both quark and gluon jet functions, and multiple partonic channels. The relevant hard, jet and soft functions are computed to one loop and their anomalous dimensions are determined to three loops. The final resummed inclus…
We present a NNLO QCD accurate event generator for direct photon pair production at hadron colliders, based on the MiNNLOPS formalism, within the POWHEG BOX RES framework. Despite the presence of the photons requires the use of isolation criteria, our generator is built such that no technical cuts are needed at any stage of the event generation. Therefore, our predictions can be used to simulate kinematic distributions with arbitrary fiducial cuts. Furthermore, we describe a few modifications of the MiNNLOPS formalism in order to allow for a setting of the renormalization and factorization sca…
We consider the production of $Zγ$ pairs at hadron colliders. We report on the first complete and fully differential computation of radiative corrections at next-to-next-to-leading order in QCD perturbation theory. We present selected numerical results for pp collisions at 7 TeV and compare them to available LHC data. We find that the impact of the NNLO QCD corrections on the fiducial cross section ranges between 4 and 15%, depending on the applied cuts.
We present the first complete calculation of Z-boson production in association with a jet in hadronic collisions through next-to-next-to-leading order in perturbative QCD. Our computation uses the recently-proposed N-jettiness subtraction scheme to regulate the infrared divergences that appear in the real-emission contributions. We present phenomenological results for 13 TeV proton-proton collisions with fully realistic fiducial cuts on the final-state particles. The remaining theoretical uncertainties after the inclusion of our calculations are at the percent-level, making the Z+jet channel r…
We present a new numerical program, HTurbo, which provides fast and numerically precise predictions for Higgs boson production cross sections. The present version of the code implements the perturbative QCD expansion up to the next-to-next-to-leading order also combined with the resummation of the large logarithmic corrections at small transverse momenta up to next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy and it includes the Higgs boson production through gluon fusion and decay in two photons with the full dependence on the final-state kinematics. Arbitrary kinematical cuts can be applied to th…
We present a detailed phenomenological study of W-boson production in association with a jet through next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) in perturbative QCD. Fiducial cross sections and differential distributions for both 8 TeV and 13 TeV LHC collisions are presented, as are results for both the inclusive one-jet bin and the exclusive one-jet bin. Two different event selection criteria are considered: a general selection with standard cuts used in experimental analyses, and a boosted selection that focuses on high transverse momentum jets. We discuss the higher-order corrections in detail and…
We present results at next-to-leading order accuracy in QCD for single top-quark production in the $t$, $s$ and $tW$ channels at the LHC at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV, obtained with the SHERPA event generator. We find them in very good agreement with measured values and quantify their theory uncertainties. Uncertainties stemming from the choice between the four- and the five-flavour scheme are found to be typically of the order of 5-10 % over large ranges of phase space. We discuss the impact of parton distribution functions, and in particular of the bottom PDF. We also show how differen…
With a large integrated luminosity expected at the Tevatron, a next-to-leading order (NLO) calculation is no longer sufficient to describe the data which yield the precision measurement of $M_W$, etc. Thus, we extend the Collins-Soper-Sterman resummation formalism, for on-shell vector boson production, to correctly include the effects of the polarization and the width of the vector boson to the distributions of the decay leptons. We show how to test the rich dynamics of the QCD multiple soft gluon radiation, for example, by measuring the ratio $R_{CSS} \equiv \frac{σ(Q_T>Q_T^{\min})}{σ_{Total}…
We present a detailed comparison of the fixed-order predictions computed by four publicly available computer codes for Drell-Yan processes at the LHC and Tevatron colliders. We point out that while there is agreement among the predictions at the next-to-leading order accuracy, the predictions at the next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) differ, whose extent depends on the observable. The sizes of the differences in general are at least similar, sometimes larger than the sizes of the NNLO corrections themselves. We demonstrate that the neglected power corrections by the codes that use global sli…
The transverse momentum distribution of massive neutral vector bosons can be measured to high accuracy at hadron colliders. The transverse momentum is caused by a partonic recoil, and is determined by QCD dynamics. We compute the single and double-differential transverse momentum distributions for fully inclusive $Z/γ^*$ production including leptonic decay to next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) in perturbative QCD. We also compute the same distributions normalised to the cross sections for inclusive $Z/γ^*$ production, i.e. integrated over the transverse momentum of the lepton pair. We compar…
At hadron colliders, the differential cross section for $W$ production can be factorized and it is sensitive transverse momentum dependent distributions (TMD) for low boson transverse momentum. While, often, the corresponding non-perturbative QCD contributions are extrapolated from $Z$ boson production, here we use an existing extraction (based on the code Artemide) of TMD which includes data coming from Drell-Yan and semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering, to provide checks and predictions for the $W$ case. Including fiducial cuts with different configurations and kinematical power correcti…
We present fully differential predictions for the production cross section of a Higgs boson via the gluon fusion mechanism at next-to-next-to-next-to leading order (N$^3$LO) in QCD perturbation theory. To perform our calculation we apply the Projection-to-Born method for the first time to the calculation of the non-factorising production of a colorless final state at the LHC at N$^3$LO. We predict differential distributions for the two photon final state produced by the decay of the Higgs boson and apply fiducial cuts on the photon rapidities and momenta. The N$^3$LO corrections to these diffe…
We study the single jet inclusive cross section up to next-to-next-to leading order in perturbative QCD, implemented in the parton-level event generator NNLOJET . Our results are fully differential in the jet transverse momentum and rapidity and we apply fiducial cuts for comparison with the available ATLAS 7 TeV 4.5 fb$^{-1}$ data for jet radius $R=0.4$. For the theoretical calculation we employ the antenna subtraction method to reliably cancel all infrared divergences present at intermediate stages of the calculation. We present all results using the individual jet transverse momentum $μ_{R}…
Electroweak (EW) triboson production processes with at least one heavy gauge boson are of increasing interest at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) as direct precision probes of one of the least-tested sectors of the Standard Model (SM), the quartic couplings of the EW gauge bosons. These processes therefore offer promising opportunities for searches for indirect signals of Beyond-the-SM (BSM) physics. In this paper, we present results for fiducial cross sections at next-to-leading-order (NLO) EW and NLO QCD to $p\;p\to e^{+}\;ν_{e}\;μ^{+}\;μ^{-}\;γ$ at the 13 TeV LHC. This signature includes the…
We present improved pQCD predictions for Higgs boson hadroproduction at the Large Hadronic Collider (LHC) by applying the Principle of Maximum Conformality (PMC), a procedure which resums the pQCD series using the renormalization group (RG), thereby eliminating the dependence of the predictions on the choice of the renormalization scheme while minimizing sensitivity to the initial choice of the renormalization scale. In previous pQCD predictions for Higgs boson hadroproduction, it has been conventional to assume that the renormalization scale $μ_r$ of the QCD coupling $α_s(μ_r)$ is the Higgs m…
LHC measurements involve cuts on several observables, but resummed calculations are mostly restricted to single variables. We show how the resummation of a class of double-differential measurements can be achieved through an extension of Soft-Collinear Effective Theory (SCET). A prototypical application is $pp \to Z + 0$ jets, where the jet veto is imposed through the beam thrust event shape ${\mathcal T}$, and the transverse momentum $p_T$ of the $Z$ boson is measured. A standard SCET analysis suffices for $p_T \sim m_Z^{1/2} {\mathcal T}^{1/2}$ and $p_T \sim {\mathcal T}$, but additional col…
Experiments at the LHC are collecting a wealth of data with an unprecedented level of precision. As a consequence, the theoretical error is now starting to lag behind the experimental one, and a ceaseless effort is required to reduce the theory uncertainty to match the precision of the data. At hadron colliders, QCD predictions are obtained by convoluting perturbative parton-level results with non-perturbative PDFs, whose precise determination is crucial to reach percent-accurate theoretical predictions. At the parton level, cross sections are obtained through a perturbative expansion in the s…
A persistent and fascinating problem at the high energy colliders are jets. Often trying to observe physics underlying the hard interactions at colliders requires experimental cuts in phase space, defining several jet or beam regions. QCD being a gauge theory that readily decays into infra-red modes, correlations between jet regions is almost inevitable, spoiling the predictivity of fixed order QCD calculations. One is faced with the task of calculating the evolution of a reduced density matrix, where successively less energetic (jet) regions are integrated out, to gain control of the calculat…
