We present a Monte Carlo based analysis of the combined world data on polarized lepton-nucleon deep-inelastic scattering at small Bjorken $x$ within the polarized quark dipole formalism. We show for the first time that double-spin asymmetries at $x<0.1$ can be successfully described using only small-$x$ evolution derived from first-principles QCD, allowing predictions to be made for the $g_1$ structure function at much smaller $x$. Anticipating future data from the Electron-Ion Collider, we assess the impact of electromagnetic and parity-violating polarization asymmetries on $g_1$ and demonstrate an extraction of the individual flavor helicity PDFs at small $x$.
Understanding the proton spin composition from the quarks and gluons spin polarization and their motion is important to test various kinds of sum rules and nonperturbative properties of hadrons. At the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC), we collide longitudinally polarized proton beams and measure the double helicity asymmetry $A_{LL}$, which is an important physical quantity for extracting the polarized parton distribution functions (PDFs) of the proton. Direct photon, jet and charged pion production are good channels to probe the gluon spin polarization inside the proton, with the abilit…
We rederive the small-$x$ evolution equations governing quark helicity distribution in a proton using solely an operator-based approach. In our previous works on the subject, the evolution equations were derived using a mix of diagrammatic and operator-based methods. In this work, we re-derive the double-logarithmic small-$x$ evolution equations for quark helicity in terms of the "polarized Wilson lines", the operators consisting of light-cone Wilson lines with one or two non-eikonal local operator insertions which bring in helicity dependence. For the first time we give explicit and complete …
We calculate the ${\cal O}(α_s)$ radiative corrections to the spin dependent differential decay rates of the process $t\rightarrow b+W^+$. These are needed to study the angular distribution of the energy of hadrons produced in polarized top quark decays at next-to-leading order (NLO). In our previous work, we studied the angular distribution of the scaled-energy of bottom-flavored hadrons (B) from polarized top quark decays, using a specific helicity coordinate system where the top quark spin was measured relative to the bottom momentum (system~1). Here, we study the angular distribution of th…
We calculate the single-spin asymmetries $A^{W^{\pm}}_{L}$ of $W^{\pm}$ bosons produced in polarized pp collisions with the valence part of the up and down quark helicity distributions modeled by the light-cone quark-spectator-diquark model while the sea part helicity distributions of the up and down quarks treated as parametrization. Comparing our results with those from experimental data at RHIC, we find that the helicity distributions of sea quarks play an important role in the determination of the shapes of $A^{W^{\pm}}_{L}$. It is shown that $A^{W^{-}}_{L}$ is sensitive to $Δ\bar u$, whil…
The helicity of a Dirac neutrino with mass $m$ evolves under the influence of a $B$-field because it has a magnetic dipole moment proportional to $m$. Moreover, it was recently shown that a polarized or anisotropic medium engenders the same effect for both Dirac and Majorana neutrinos. Because a $B$-field polarizes a background medium, it instigates helicity oscillations even for Majorana neutrinos unless the medium is symmetric between matter and antimatter. Motivated by these observations, we review the impact of a $B$-field and of an anisotropic or polarized medium on helicity oscillations …
Understanding how sea quarks behave inside a nucleon is one of the most important physics goals of the proposed Electron-Ion Collider in China (EicC), which is designed to have 3.5 GeV polarized electron beam (80% polarization) colliding with 20 GeV polarized proton beam (70% polarization) at instantaneous luminosity of $2 \times 10^{33} {\rm cm}^{-2} {\rm s}^{-1}$. A specific topic at EicC is to understand the polarization of individual quarks inside a longitudinally polarized nucleon. The potential of various future EicC data, including the inclusive and semi-inclusive deep inelastic scatter…
In this letter, we report the results for the isovector polarized quark quasi-distribution functions $Δu(x,v) - Δd(x,v)$ in the large $N_c$, calculated within the chiral quark-soliton model. It is shown that the polarized quark quasi-distributions present good convergence to the light-cone PDFs in the limit of the nucleon boost momentum $P_N \to \infty$ (or the velocity $v \to 1$), compared to the case of the unpolarized isosinglet distributions.
We present the first lattice-QCD calculation of the isovector polarized parton distribution functions (both helicity and transversity) using the large-momentum effective field theory (LaMET) approach for direct Bjorken-$x$ dependence. We first review the detailed steps of the procedure in the unpolarized case, then generalize to the helicity and transversity cases. We also derive a new mass-correction formulation for all three cases. We then compare the effects of each finite-momentum correction using lattice data calculated at $M_π\approx 310$ MeV. Finally, we discuss the implications of thes…
We obtain the gluon parton distribution functions (PDFs) in the proton within the extended light-front holographic QCD framework, where the proton couples with the spin-two Pomeron in Anti-de Sitter space, together with constraints imposed by the Veneziano model. The gluon helicity asymmetry, after satisfying the perturbative QCD constraints at small and large longitudinal momentum regions, agrees with existing experimental measurements. The polarized gluon distribution is consistent with global analyses. We predict the gluon helicity contribution to the proton spin, $ΔG=0.221^{+0.056}_{-0.044…
The anticipated experimental resolution and data cache of the High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider will enable precision investigations of polarization in multiboson processes. This includes, for the first time, vector boson scattering. To facilitate such studies, we report the automation of polarized matrix element computations in the publicly available Monte Carlo tool suite, MadGraph5_aMC@NLO. This enables scattering and decay simulations involving helicity-polarized asymptotic or intermediate states, preserving both spin-correlation and off-shell effects. As demonstrations of the method, …
This article discusses a prescription to compute polarized dimensionally regularized amplitudes, providing a recipe for constructing simple and general polarized amplitude projectors in D dimensions that avoids conventional Lorentz tensor decomposition and avoids also dimensional splitting. Because of the latter, commutation between Lorentz index contraction and loop integration is preserved within this prescription, which entails certain technical advantages. The usage of these D-dimensional polarized amplitude projectors results in helicity amplitudes that can be expressed solely in terms of…

We present the first-ever description the world data on the $g_1^{p,n}$ structure function at small Bjorken $x$ using evolution equations in $x$ derived from first principles QCD. This is a Monte-Carlo analysis within the JAM global framework that allows us to fit all existing polarized DIS data below $x<0.1$ as well as predict future measurements of small $x$ $g_1^{p,n}$ at the EIC. This is a necessary step in determining the quark helicity PDFs and, ultimately, the quark contribution to the proton spin.
We generalize the JIMWLK evolution equation to include the small-$x$ evolution of helicity distributions. To derive helicity JIMWLK, we use the method devised by A.H. Mueller for the usual unpolarized JIMWLK, and apply it to the helicity evolution equations derived earlier. We obtain a functional evolution equation for the generalized JIMWLK weight functional. The functional now is a sum of a helicity-independent term and a helicity-dependent term. The kernel of the new evolution equation consists of the standard eikonal leading-order JIMWLK kernel plus new terms containing derivatives with re…
