The edge-connectivity matrix of a weighted graph is the matrix whose off-diagonal $v$-$w$ entry is the weight of a minimum edge cut separating vertices $v$ and $w$. Its computation is a classical topic of combinatorial optimization since at least the seminal work of Gomory and Hu. In this article, we investigate spectral properties of these matrices. In particular, we provide tight bounds on the smallest eigenvalue and the energy. Moreover, we study the eigenvector structure and show in which cases eigenvectors can be easily obtained from matrix entries. These results in turn rely on a new characterization of those nonnegative matrices that can actually occur as edge-connectivity matrices.
Alternating sign triangles were introduced by Carroll and Speyer in relation to cube recurrence, by analogy to alternating sign matrices for octahedron recurrence. In this paper, we prove the connectivity of alternating sign triangles, which is analogous to the connectivity of alternating sign matrices.
In this paper we determine the unique graph with minimum distance spectral radius among all connected graphs of fixed order and given edge connectivity.
The cyclic edge-connectivity of a graph $G$ is the least $k$ such that there exists a set of $k$ edges whose removal disconnects $G$ into components where every component contains a cycle. We show that for graphs of minimum degree at least 3 and girth $g$ at least 4, the cyclic edge-connectivity is bounded above by $(Δ-2)g$ where $Δ$ is the maximum degree. We then prove that if the second eigenvalue of the adjacency matrix of a $d$-regular graph of girth $g\geq4$ is sufficiently small, then the cyclic edge-connectivity is $(d-2)g$, providing a spectral condition for when this upper bound on cy…
The second-largest eigenvalue and second-smallest Laplacian eigenvalue of a graph are measures of its connectivity. These eigenvalues can be used to analyze the robustness, resilience, and synchronizability of networks, and are related to connectivity attributes such as the vertex- and edge-connectivity, isoperimetric number, and characteristic path length. In this paper, we present two upper bounds for the second-largest eigenvalues of regular graphs and multigraphs of a given order which guarantee a desired vertex- or edge-connectivity. The given bounds are in terms of the order and degree o…
Shiu, Chan and Chang [On the spectral radius of graphs with connectivity at most $k$, J. Math. Chem., 46 (2009), 340-346] studied the spectral radius of graphs of order $n$ with $κ(G) \leq k$ and showed that among those graphs, the maximum spectral radius is obtained uniquely at $K_k^n$, which is the graph obtained by joining $k$ edges from $k$ vertices of $K_{n-1}$ to an isolated vertex. In this paper, we study the spectral radius of graphs of order $n$ with $κ(G)\leq k$ and minimum degree $δ(G)\geq k $. We show that among those graphs, the maximum spectral radius is obtained uniquely at $K_{…
The characteristic polynomials of the adjacency matrix of line graphs of caterpillars and then the characteristic polynomials of their Laplacian or signless Laplacian matrices are characterized, using recursive formulas. Furthermore, the obtained results are applied on the determination of upper and lower bounds on the algebraic connectivity of these graphs.
Let $λ_2(G)$ and $κ'(G)$ be the second largest eigenvalue and the edge-connectivity of a graph $G$, respectively. Let $d$ be a positive integer at least 3. For $t=1$ or 2, Cioaba proved sharp upper bounds for $λ_2(G)$ in a $d$-regular simple graph $G$ to guarantee that $κ'(G) \ge t+1$. In this paper, we settle down for all $t \ge 3$.
The $d$-dimensional algebraic connectivity $a_d(G)$ of a graph $G=(V,E)$, introduced by Jordán and Tanigawa, is a quantitative measure of the $d$-dimensional rigidity of $G$ that is defined in terms of the eigenvalues of stiffness matrices (which are analogues of the graph Laplacian) associated to mappings of the vertex set $V$ into $\mathbb{R}^d$. Here, we analyze the $d$-dimensional algebraic connectivity of complete graphs. In particular, we show that, for $d\geq 3$, $a_d(K_{d+1})=1$, and for $n\geq 2d$, \[ \left\lceil\frac{n}{2d}\right\rceil-2d+1\leq a_d(K_n) \leq \frac{2n}{3(d-1)}+\frac{1…
The difference between the two largest eigenvalues of the adjacency matrix of a graph $G$ is called the spectral gap of $G.$ If $G$ is a regular graph, then its spectral gap is equal to algebraic connectivity. Abdi, Ghorbani and Imrich, in [European J. Combin. 95 (2021) 103328], showed that the minimum algebraic connectivity of cubic connected graphs on $2n$ vertices is $(1+o(1))\frac{π^{2}}{2n^{2}}$, which is attained on non-bipartite graphs. Motivated by the above result, we in this paper investigate the algebraic connectivity of cubic bipartite graphs. We prove that the minimum algebraic co…
In this article, various aspects of Laplacian spectra of power graphs of finite cyclic, dicyclic and finite $p$-groups are studied. Algebraic connectivity of power graphs of the above groups are considered and determined completely for that of finite $p$-groups. Further, the multiplicity of Laplacian spectral radius of power graphs of the above groups are studied and determined completely for that of dicyclic and finite $p$-groups. The equality of the vertex connectivity and the algebraic connectivity is characterized for power graphs of all of the above groups. Orders of dicyclic groups, for …

For a group $G,$ the enhanced power graph of $G$ is a graph with vertex set $G$ in which two distinct elements $x, y$ are adjacent if and only if there exists an element $w$ in $G$ such that both $x$ and $y$ are powers of $w.$ The proper enhanced power graph is the induced subgraph of the enhanced power graph on the set $G \setminus S,$ where $S$ is the set of dominating vertices of the enhanced power graph. In this paper, we first characterize the dominating vertices of enhanced power graph of any finite nilpotent group. Thereafter, we classify all nilpotent groups $G$ such that the proper en…
This paper investigates some relationship between the algebraic connectivity and the clique number of graphs. We characterize all extremal graphs which have the maximum and minimum the algebraic connectivity among all graphs of order $n$ with the clique number $r$, respectively. In turn, an upper and lower bounds for the clique number of a graph in terms of the algebraic connectivity are obtained. Moreover, a spectral version of the Erdős-Stone theorem in terms of the algebraic connectivity of graphs is presented.

The edge-connectivity of a graph is the minimum number of edges whose deletion disconnects the graph. Let $Δ(G)$ the maximum degree of a graph $G$ and let $ρ(G)$ be the spectral radius of $G$. In this article we present a lower bound for $Δ(G)-ρ(G)$ in terms of the edge connectivity of $G$, where $G$ is a nonregular distance-hereditary graph. We also prove that $ρ(G)$ reaches the maximum at a unique graph in $\mathcal G$, when $\vert V(G)\vert = n$, and $\mathcal G$ either is in the class of graphs with bounded tree-width or is in the class of block graphs with prescribed independence number.

We introduce the concept of natural connectivity as a robustness measure of complex networks. The natural connectivity has a clear physical meaning and a simple mathematical formulation. It characterizes the redundancy of alternative paths by quantifying the weighted number of closed walks of all lengths. We show that the natural connectivity can be derived mathematically from the graph spectrum as an average eigenvalue and that it increases strictly monotonically with the addition of edges. We test the natural connectivity and compare it with other robustness measures within a scenario of edg…
