Bosonic codes offer noise resilience for quantum information processing. Good performance often comes at a price of complex decoding schemes, limiting their practicality. Here, we propose using a Gottesman-Kitaev-Preskill (GKP) code to detect and discard error-prone qubits, concatenated with a quantum parity code to handle the residual errors. Our method employs a simple, linear-time decoder that nevertheless offers significant performance improvements over the standard decoder. Our work may have applications in a wide range of quantum computation and communication scenarios.
We propose an architecture of quantum-error-correction-based quantum repeaters that combines techniques used in discrete- and continuous-variable quantum information. Specifically, we propose to encode the transmitted qubits in a concatenated code consisting of two levels. On the first level we use a continuous-variable GKP code encoding the qubit in a single bosonic mode. On the second level we use a small discrete-variable code. Such an architecture has two important features. Firstly, errors on each of the two levels are corrected in repeaters of two different types. This enables for achiev…
Gaussian capacity of the quantum bosonic channel with additive correlated Gaussian noise
Rev. A 80,062313(2009)]。我们评估的传输速率的增强时,使用这些最佳的纠缠输入状态的产品相干态编码相比,发现这样一个简单的相干态编码实现不低于90%的容量。
Quantum error correction is essential for robust quantum information processing with noisy devices. As bosonic quantum systems play a crucial role in quantum sensing, communication, and computation, it is important to design error correction codes suitable for these systems against various different types of noises. While most efforts aim at protecting qubits encoded into the infinite dimensional Hilbert space of a bosonic mode, [Phys. Rev. Lett. 125, 080503 (2020)] proposed an error correction code to maintain the infinite-dimensional-Hilbert-space nature of bosonic systems by encoding a sing…
The most natural way to describe an information-carrying system containing a specific noise is an additive white Gaussian-noise (AWGN) channel. In bosonic quantum systems (especially the Gaussian case), although the classical information capacity for a phase-insensitive and thermal-noise channel is additive based on a proof of the minimum output entropy conjecture, several open questions remain. By generalizing the Gaussian noise model from thermal noise to general Gaussian noise, we rigorously revisit and calculate these strong upper bounds on the information capacity for single-mode with gen…
An outstanding challenge for quantum information processing using bosonic systems is Gaussian errors such as excitation loss and added thermal noise errors. Thus, bosonic quantum error correction (QEC) is essential. Most bosonic QEC schemes encode a finite-dimensional logical qubit or qudit into noisy bosonic oscillator modes. In this case, however, the infinite-dimensional bosonic nature of the physical system is lost at the error-corrected logical level. On the other hand, there are several proposals for encoding an oscillator mode into many noisy oscillator modes. However, these oscillator-…

Encoding logical quantum information in harmonic oscillator modes is a promising and hardware-efficient approach to the realization of a quantum computer. In this work, we propose to encode logical qubits in grid states of an ensemble of harmonic oscillator modes. We first discuss general results about these multimode bosonic codes; how to design them, how to practically implement them in different experimental platforms and how lattice symmetries can be leveraged to perform logical non-Clifford operations. We then introduce in detail two two-mode grid codes based on the hypercubic and D4 latt…
We present upper bounds on the quantum and private capacity of single-mode, phase-insentitive Bosonic Gaussian Channels based on degradable extensions. Our findings are state-of-the-art in the following parameter regions: low temperature and high transmissivity for the thermal attenuator, low temperature for additive Gaussian noise, high temperature and intermediate amplification for the thermal amplifier.
We consider the problem of estimating an unknown but constant carrier phase modulation $θ$ using a general -- possibly entangled -- $n$-mode optical probe through $n$ independent and identical uses of a lossy bosonic channel with additive thermal noise. We find an upper bound to the quantum Fisher information (QFI) of estimating $θ$ as a function of $n$, the mean and variance of the total number of photons $N_{\rm S}$ in the $n$-mode probe, the transmissivity $η$ and mean thermal photon number per mode ${\bar n}_{\rm B}$ of the bosonic channel. Since the inverse of QFI provides a lower bound t…
We compare two sets of multimode quantum channels acting on a finite collection of harmonic oscillators: (a) the set of linear bosonic channels, whose action is described as a linear transformation at the phase space level; and (b) Gaussian dilatable channels, that admit a Stinespring dilation involving a Gaussian unitary. Our main result is that the set (a) coincides with the closure of (b) with respect to the strong operator topology. We also present an example of a channel in (a) which is not in (b), implying that taking the closure is in general necessary. This provides a complete resoluti…
In the literature on the continuous-variable bosonic teleportation protocol due to [Braunstein and Kimble, Phys. Rev. Lett., 80(4):869, 1998], it is often loosely stated that this protocol converges to a perfect teleportation of an input state in the limit of ideal squeezing and ideal detection, but the exact form of this convergence is typically not clarified. In this paper, I explicitly clarify that the convergence is in the strong sense, and not the uniform sense, and furthermore, that the convergence occurs for any input state to the protocol, including the infinite-energy Basel states def…
