Stock price forecasting is a highly complex and vitally important field of research. Recent advancements in deep neural network technology allow researchers to develop highly accurate models to predict financial trends. We propose a novel deep learning model called ST-GAN, or Stochastic Time-series Generative Adversarial Network, that analyzes both financial news texts and financial numerical data to predict stock trends. We utilize cutting-edge technology like the Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) to learn the correlations among textual and numerical data over time. We develop a new method of training a time-series GAN directly using the learned representations of Naive Bayes' sentiment analysis on financial text data alongside technical indicators from numerical data. Our experimental results show significant improvement over various existing models and prior research on deep neural networks for stock price forecasting.
Financial markets are a complex dynamical system. The complexity comes from the interaction between a market and its participants, in other words, the integrated outcome of activities of the entire participants determines the markets trend, while the markets trend affects activities of participants. These interwoven interactions make financial markets keep evolving. Inspired by stochastic recurrent models that successfully capture variability observed in natural sequential data such as speech and video, we propose CLVSA, a hybrid model that consists of stochastic recurrent networks, the sequen…
Financial markets tend to switch between various market regimes over time, making stationarity-based models unsustainable. We construct a regime-switching model independent of asset classes for risk-adjusted return predictions based on hidden Markov models. This framework can distinguish between market regimes in a wide range of financial markets such as the commodity, currency, stock, and fixed income market. The proposed method employs sticky features that directly affect the regime stickiness and thereby changing turnover levels. An investigation of our metric for risk-adjusted return predi…
Stock market prediction is one of the most attractive research topic since the successful prediction on the market's future movement leads to significant profit. Traditional short term stock market predictions are usually based on the analysis of historical market data, such as stock prices, moving averages or daily returns. However, financial news also contains useful information on public companies and the market. Existing methods in finance literature exploit sentiment signal features, which are limited by not considering factors such as events and the news context. We address this issue by…
Form 10-K report is a financial report disclosing the annual financial state of a public company. It is an important evidence to conduct financial analysis, i.e., asset pricing, corporate finance. Practitioners and researchers are constantly designing algorithms to better conduct analysis on information in the Form 10-K report. The vast majority of previous works focus on quantitative data. With recent advancement on natural language processing (NLP), textual data in financial filing attracts more attention. However, to incorporate textual data for analyzing, Form 10-K Itemization is a necessa…
In this paper, we model the impact of oil price volatility on Tehranstock and industry indices in two periods of international sanctions and post-sanction. To analyse the purpose of study, we use Feed-forward neural net-works. The period of study is from 2008 to 2018 that is split in two periods during international energy sanction and post-sanction. The results show that Feed-forward neural networks perform well in predicting stock market and industry, which means oil price volatility has a significant impact on stock and industry market indices. During post-sanction and global financial cris…
The rapid development of artificial intelligence methods contributes to their wide applications for forecasting various financial risks in recent years. This study introduces a novel explainable case-based reasoning (CBR) approach without a requirement of rich expertise in financial risk. Compared with other black-box algorithms, the explainable CBR system allows a natural economic interpretation of results. Indeed, the empirical results emphasize the interpretability of the CBR system in predicting financial risk, which is essential for both financial companies and their customers. In additio…

In this paper we develop a novel neural network model for predicting implied volatility surface. Prior financial domain knowledge is taken into account. A new activation function that incorporates volatility smile is proposed, which is used for the hidden nodes that process the underlying asset price. In addition, financial conditions, such as the absence of arbitrage, the boundaries and the asymptotic slope, are embedded into the loss function. This is one of the very first studies which discuss a methodological framework that incorporates prior financial domain knowledge into neural network …
Option pricing is a significant problem for option risk management and trading. In this article, we utilize a framework to present financial data from different sources. The data is processed and represented in a form of 2D tensors in three channels. Furthermore, we propose two deep learning models that can deal with 3D tensor data. Experiments performed on the Chinese market option dataset prove the practicability of the proposed strategies over commonly used ways, including B-S model and vector-based LSTM.

Corporate distress models typically only employ the numerical financial variables in the firms' annual reports. We develop a model that employs the unstructured textual data in the reports as well, namely the auditors' reports and managements' statements. Our model consists of a convolutional recurrent neural network which, when concatenated with the numerical financial variables, learns a descriptive representation of the text that is suited for corporate distress prediction. We find that the unstructured data provides a statistically significant enhancement of the distress prediction perform…
