We examine the dielectron invariant mass spectrum and the variation of the polarization asymmetry as a function of that mass in the event generator of the five-dimensional Bethe-Heitler differential cross section of the conversion of linearly polarized photons that we have implemented recently as a Geant4 Physics Model. We compare the results obtained with simulated samples to analytical expressions.
Studies of $b \to s γ$ decays at LHC and Belle II experiments could provide hints of physics beyond the standard model in flavor-changing neutral current processes; issues have been reported in the simulation of the properties of the background induced by genuine $γ$-ray conversions in their detectors. Our results demonstrate that using the five-dimensional model would help solve these issues.
We study the direct CP asymmetry of the decays b -> s gamma and b -> d gamma in the context of two models: i) a supersymmetric (SUSY) model with unconstrained SUSY phases, and ii) a model with a single generation of vector quarks. In both the above models we show that b -> d gamma can sizeably influence the combined asymmetry (i.e. that of a sample containing both b -> s gamma and b -> d gamma), and in case (ii) may in fact be the dominant contribution.
We show that, in the MSSM with msugra boundary conditions and seesaw induced neutrino masses, the values of BR(mu->e gamma) and the mu-e conversion rate in a nucleus determine the sign of mu and constrain tan beta in a model independent way.
The radiative B-> rho gamma, B-> omega gamma decay modes are caused by the FCNC process, so they give us good insight towards probing the standard model in order to search for new physics. In this paper, we compute the branching ratio, direct CP asymmetry, and isospin breaking effects using the perturbative QCD approach within the standard model.
During the accretion phase of a core-collapse supernova (SN), the deleptonization flux has recently been found to develop a global dipole pattern (LESA---Lepton Emission Self-sustained Asymmetry). The $ν_e$ minus $\barν_e$ flux essentially vanishes in one direction, potentially facilitating self-induced flavor conversion. On the other hand, below the stalled shock wave, self-induced flavor conversion is typically suppressed by multi-angle matter effects, preventing any impact of flavor conversion on SN explosion dynamics. In a schematic model of SN neutrino fluxes, we study the impact of modif…
In the region of large mu^+ mu^- invariant mass, the decay spectrum of K_L -> mu^+ mu^- gamma deviates from the Dalitz pair spectrum, as a result of interference between conversion (K_L -> gamma^* gamma -> mu^+ mu^- gamma) and bremsstrahlung amplitudes. The latter is proportional to the K_L -> mu^+ mu^- matrix element, whose 2 gamma-absorptive part appears to dominate the observed K_L -> mu^+ mu^- decay rate. We examine the extent to which a scrutiny of the K_L -> mu^+ mu^- gamma spectrum in the end-point region could provide evidence on the real part of the K_L -> mu^+ mu^- amplitude. As a by…
We study the direct CP asymmetry in B -> X_s gamma decay in SUSY models with non-universal A-terms. We show that the flavour-dependent phases of the A-terms, unlike the flavour-independent ones, can give rise too large contribution to the CP asymmetry while respecting the experimental bounds on the branching ratio of B -> X_s gamma decay and the electric dipole moments of the electron and neutron. The CP asymmetry of this decay is predicted to be much larger than the standard model prediction in a wide region of the parameter space. In particular, it can be of order 10-15% which can be accessi…
We calculate the branching ratios for B_{d}^{0}->(b_{1},h_{1})gamma at next-to-leading order (NLO) of alpha_{s} where b_{1} and h_{1} are the corresponding radially excited axial vector mesons of rho and omega respectively. Using the SU(3)symmetry for the form factor, the branching ratio for B_{d}^{0}->(b_{1},h_{1})gamma is expressed in terms of the branching ratio of the B_{d}^{0}-> K_{1}gamma and it is found to be B(B_{d}^{0}->b_{1}gamma)=0.71* 10^{-6} and B(B_{d}^{0}-> h_{1}gamma) =0.74*10^{-6}. We also calculate direct CP asymmetry for these decays and find, in confirmity with the observat…
The mixing-induced CP asymmetries in B-> K* gamma -> K_S pi^0 gamma and B-> K* gamma -> K_L pi^0 gamma are expected to be small within the standard model. So they are among the most promising decay modes to test the standard model. In this paper, we compute the mixing-induced CP asymmetries in these decay modes, within the framework of the standard model, using perturbative QCD, and our conclusion is S_{K_S pi^0 gamma}=-S_{K_L pi^0 gamma}=-(3.5\pm 1.7)\times 10^{-2}.
The gamma +jet production in p(->)-p(->) collisions at high energies is studied. Double-spin asymmetry A{LL} of the process is calculated by using Monte Carlo code SPHINX. The predictions for A{LL} of the gamma +jet production in the p(->)-p(->) collisions using the spin-dependent gluon distributions with positive and negative sign of $ΔG(x,Q^2)$ are made at RHIC energies. A possibility to extract the spin-dependent gluon distributions Delta G at STAR experiment and to discriminate between different theoretical scenarios is discussed.
We study the isospin asymmetry as an observable in exclusive B -> K* gamma decay that can be used to study the effects of physics beyond the Standard Model. We present predictions for isospin asymmetry in Supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model with minimal flavor violation, using parameter values allowed by current experimental constraints. This observable can provide very tight constraints on the mSUGRA parameter space.
The radiative B -> K* gamma mode is caused by a penguin operator which is a quantum correction. Thus this mode may be useful in the search for physics beyond the standard model. In this paper, we compute the branching ratio, direct CP asymmetry, and isospin breaking effects within the Standard Model in the framework perturbative QCD, and discuss how new physics might show up in this decay.
Isospin asymmetry in b -> s gamma transitions provides severe constraints on new physics parameters, due to the small values of the experimental measurements. We exploit here this new observable to study different supersymmetric models. For this purpose, we calculate the isospin symmetry breaking in the MSSM with minimal flavor violation, considering NLO contributions. We study three scenarios for supersymmetry breaking, namely mSUGRA, AMSB and GMSB. In most of the explored regions, we find very restrictive constraints on the allowed parameters for these models.
The fermion spin-flip conversion f_L -> f_R + gamma is considered, caused by the difference of the additional energies of the electroweak origin, acquired by left- and right-handed fermions (neutrino, electron) in medium. An accurate taking account of the fermion and photon dispersion in medium is performed. It is shown that the threshold arises in the process, caused by the photon (plasmon) effective mass. This threshold leaves no room for the so-called ``spin light of neutrino'' and ``spin light of electron'' in the real astrophysical situations.
We study neutrino conversions in a recently envisaged source of high-energy neutrinos (E \geq 10^6 GeV), that is, in the vicinity of cosmological Gamma-Ray Burst fireballs (GRB). We consider the effects of flavor and spin-flavor conversions and point out that in both situations, a some what higher than estimated high energy tau neutrino flux from GRBs is expected in new km^2 surface area under water/ice neutrino telescopes.
The effect of weak annihilation and u-quark penguin contribution on the branching ratio B -> K_1 gamma at next-to-leading order of alpha_s are calculated using LEET approach. It is shown that the value of LEET form factor remains the same in the range of unitarity triangle phase alpha favored by the Standard Model. CP-asymmetry for above mentioned decay has been calculated and its suppression due to the hard spectator correction has also been incorporated. In addition, the sensitivity of the CP-asymmetry on the underlying parameters has been discussed.
We present a program for calculating the isospin symmetry breaking of the B -> K* gamma decay in the MSSM with minimal flavor violation. This program calculates the NLO supersymmetric contributions to the isospin asymmetry, using the effective Hamiltonian approach and within the QCD factorization method. We show that isospin symmetry breaking proves to be a very restrictive observable, in particular in the mSUGRA parameter space. The program also calculates the inclusive branching ratio associated to b -> s gamma transition, as a comparison reference.
We present a method for measuring the weak phase gamma using isospin analysis of three body B decays into K pi pi channels. Differential decay widths and time dependent asymmetry in B_d -> K_s pi^+pi^- mode needs to be measured into even isospin pi pi states. The method can be used to extract gamma, as well as, the size of the electroweak penguin contributions. The technique is free from assumptions like SU(3) or neglect of any contributions to the decay amplitudes. By studying different regions of the Dalitz plot, it is possible to reduce the ambiguity in the value of gamma.
We study the conversion of a neutron star to a strange star as a possible energy source for gamma-ray bursts. We use different recent models for the equation of state of neutron star matter and strange quark matter. We show that the total amount of energy liberated in the conversion is in the range of (1-4) 10^{53} ergs (one order of magnitude larger than previous estimates) and is in agreement with the energy required to power gamma-ray burst sources at cosmological distances.
The contributions of supersymmetric particles in the isospin symmetry violation in B -> K* gamma decay mode are investigated. The model parameters are adopted from minimal Supergravity with minimal flavor violation. A complete scan of the mSUGRA parameter space has been performed, using the next to leading supersymmetric contributions to the relevant Wilson coefficients. The results are compared to recent experimental data in order to obtain constraints on the parameter space. We point out that isospin asymmetry can prove to be an interesting observable and imposes severe restrictions on the a…
We show that in the Standard Model the parametrically leading (by a factor 1/alpha_s) contribution to the inclusive CP asymmetry in B->X_{s,d}+gamma decays arises from a long-distance effect in the interference of the electromagnetic dipole amplitude with the amplitude for an up-quark penguin transition accompanied by soft gluon emission. This contribution is governed by a single hadronic parameter Lambda_{17}^u related to a matrix elements of a non-local operator. In view of current experimental data, a future precision measurement of the flavor-averaged CP asymmetry in B->X_s+gamma will sign…
We analyze the double polarization asymmetry of the omega-meson photoproduction in the vector-meson-dominance model of diffractive production and the one-pion exchange model. We find that the longitudinal beam-target asymmetry is very sensitive to the real part of the diffractive photoproduction amplitude and to the sign of the omega-pi-gamma coupling because of the different spin structures of the amplitudes associated with the different mechanisms.
In the two-Higgs-doublet model the alignment of the Yukawa matrices in flavour space guarantees the absence of flavour-changing neutral currents at tree level, while introducing new sources for CP violation parametrized in a very economical way. This implies potentially large influence in a number of processes, b -> s gamma being a prominent example where rather high experimental and theoretical precision meet. We analyze the CP rate asymmetry in this inclusive decay and determine the resulting constraints on the model parameters. We demonstrate the compatibility with previously obtained limit…
A light pseudoscalar coupled to two photons would be copiously emitted by the core of a supernova and part of this flux would be converted to gamma-rays by the galactic magnetic field. Measurements on the SN1987A gamma-ray flux by the Gamma-Ray Spectrometer on the Solar Maximum Mission satellite imply stringents bounds on such process. The improved generation of satellite-borne detectors, like EGRET or the projegeneration of satellite-borne detectors, like EGRET or the project GLAST, could be able to detect a pseudoscalar-to-photon signal from a nearby supernova.
We calculate the CP-violating polarization asymmetry of tt-bar, delta =[ sigma(ee-bar --> t(-)t-bar(-))-sigma(ee-bar --> t(+)t-bar(+)) ]/ sigma(ee-bar --> tt-bar), for the most general tt-bar gamma/Z couplings without dropping any non-standard contribution. We find that one term which is usually neglected increases with s and will eventually become non-negligible at very high energy.
The recent experimental results on CP violation related to the angles of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) unitarity triangle 2beta+gamma are summarized in these proceedings. These results are obtained with approximately 232 million Y4S->BBbar events collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B-factory at SLAC. Using the measurements on time-dependent CP asymmetries in B0->D(*)-+pi+- and B0->D-+rho+- decays and theoretical assumptions, one finds |sin(2beta+gamma)|>0.64 (0.40) at 68% (90%) confidence level. The perspectives of sin(2beta+gamma) measurement with B0bar-> D…
We calculate the dominant Standard Model contributions to the time-dependent CP asymmetry in B0->K*0 gamma, which is O(1/mb) in QCD factorisation. We find that, including all relevant hadronic effects, in particular from soft gluons, the asymmetry S is very small, S=-0.022\pm 0.015^{+0}_{-0.01}, and smaller than suggested recently from dimensional arguments in a 1/mb expansion. Our result implies that any significant deviation of the asymmetry from zero, and in particular a confirmation of the current experimental central value, S_{HFAG}=-0.28\pm 0.26, would constitute a clean signal for new p…
We study neutrino conversions in the recently envisaged source of high energy ($E \geq 10^{6}$ GeV) neutrinos, that is, in the vicinity of cosmological gamma-ray burst fireballs (GRB). We consider mainly the possibility of neutrino conversions due to an interplay of neutrino transition magnetic moment, $μ$, and the violation of equivalence principle (VEP), parameterized by $Δf$, in a reasonable strength of magnetic field in the vicinity of the GRB. We point out that for $Δf \sim 10^{-25}(δm^2/1 {eV}^2)$, a resonant spin-flavour precession between $\barν_μ$ and $ν_τ$ may occur in the vicinity o…
The CP asymmetry in inclusive B->X_{s,d}+gamma decays is an important probe of new physics. The theoretical prediction was thought to be of a perturbative origin, and in the standard model, to be about 0.5 percent. In a recent work with M. Benzke, S.J. Lee and M. Neubert, we have shown that the asymmetry is in fact dominated by non-perturbative effects. Since these are hard to estimate, it reduces the sensitivity to new physics effects. On the other hand, these new non-perturbative effects suggest a new test of new physics by looking at the difference of the CP asymmetries in charged versus ne…
The direct CP asymmetry in the untagged inclusive channel B -> X_(s+d) gamma provides a strict test of the standard model. It has been shown beyond the partonic level that this asymmetry is negligibly small thanks to U-spin relations and to the unitarity of the CKM matrix. In the present paper we investigate this relation beyond the SM; in particular, we analyse to which extent deviations from this prediction are possible in supersymmetric scenarios. We analyse the minimal flavour violation scenario, including tan(beta) enhanced terms and using the complete two-loop renormalization group runni…
We make a theoretical study of the charge and forward-backward pion asymmetries in the e+e- --> pi+ pi- gamma process on and off the phi resonance energy. These observables are rather sensitive to the inner details of the theoretical models to describe the reaction. In addition to the standard implementation of the initial state radiation (ISR) and the Bremsstrahlung contribution to the final state radiation (FSR), we use the techniques of the chiral unitary approach to evaluate the contribution from the mechanisms of phi decay into pi+pi-gamma. This contribution involves the implementation of…
Weak interactions are expected to induce a parity violating pion-nucleon coupling, h_{πNN}^{(1)}. This coupling should be measurable in a proposed experiment to study the parity violating asymmetry A_γin the process \vec n + p \to d+γ. We compute the leading dependence of A_γon the coupling h_{πNN}^{(1)} using recently developed effective field theory techniques and find an asymmetry of A_γ= +0.17 h_{πNN}^{(1)} at leading order. This asymmetry has the opposite sign to that given by Desplanques, Donoghue and Holstein.
A light pseudoscalar coupled to two photons would be copiously emitted by the core of a supernova. Part of this flux would be converted to $γ-$rays by the galactic magnetic field. Measurements on the SN1987A $γ-$ray flux by the Gamma-Ray Spectrometer on the Solar Maximum Mission satellite already imply a bound on the coupling $g < 3 \times 10^{-12}$ GeV$^{-1}$. The improved generation of satellite-borne detectors, like EGRET or the project GLAST, could be able to detect a pseudoscalar-to-photon signal from a nearby supernova, for allowed values of $g$.
We show that an anomalous CP-violating gamma-gamma-Z vertex gives rise to a novel asymmetry with transversely polarized electron and positron beams in the process e+e- -> gamma Z. This asymmetry, which is odd under naive time reversal, is proportional to the real part of the gamma-gamma-Z CP-violating coupling. This is in contrast to the simple forward-backward asymmetry of the gamma (or Z) with unpolarized or longitudinally polarized beams studied earlier, which is even under naive time reversal, and is proportional to the imaginary part. We estimate the sensitivity of future experiments to t…
We study matter effects on oscillations of high-energy neutrinos in the Universe. Substantial effect can be produced by scattering of the neutrinos from cosmological sources ($z\gta 1$) on the relic neutrino background, provided that the latter has large CP-asymmetry: $η\equiv (n_ν-n_{\barν})/n_γ\gta 1$, where $n_ν$, $n_{\barν}$ and $n_γ$ are the concentrations of neutrinos, antineutrinos and photons. We consider in details the dynamics of conversion in the expanding neutrino background. Applications are given to the diffuse fluxes of neutrinos from GRBs, AGN, and the decay of super-heavy reli…
Applying heavy-baryon chiral perturbation theory to ordinary muon capture (OMC) on a proton, we calculate the capture rate and neutron helicity asymmetry up to next-to-next-to-leading order. For the singlet hyperfine state, we obtain the capture rate Gamma_0 = 695 sec^{-1} while, for the triplet hyperfine state, we obtain the capture rate Gamma_1 = 11.9 sec^{-1} and the neutron asymmetry alpha_1 = 0.93. If the existing formalism is used to relate these atomic capture rates to Gamma_{liq}, the OMC rate in liquid hydrogen, then Gamma_{liq} corresponding to our improved values of Gamma_0 and Gamm…
Pseudoscalar particles $ϕ$ usually couple electromagnetically by an interaction of the form $\frc14 g ϕF {\widetilde F}$, allowing them to convert to photons in the presence of magnetic fields. Notably, new low-mass pseudoscalars emitted from supernova (SN) 1987A would have been converted to $γ$-rays in the intervening magnetic field of the galaxy. Therefore, measurements by the Solar Maximum Mission (SMM) Gamma-Ray Spectrometer (GRS) can limit the inverse coupling constant to $g^{-1}>1{\times}10^{11}\,\rm GeV$, assuming the pseudoscalar is massless. This is an improvement over other astrophys…
We study the loop-induced circularly polarized gamma rays from dark matter annihilation using the effective dark matter theory approach. Both neutral scalar and fermionic dark matter annihilating into monochromatic diphoton and $Z$-photon final states are considered. To generate the circular polarization asymmetry, $P$ and $CP$ symmetries must be violated in the couplings between dark matter and Standard Model fermions inside the loop with non-vanishing Cutkosky cut. The asymmetry can be sizable especially for $Z$-photon final state for which asymmetry of nearly $90\%$ can be reached. We discu…
The propagation of TeV gamma rays can be strongly modified by B-field induced conversion to axionlike particles (ALPs). We show that, at such high energies, photon dispersion is dominated by background photons - the only example where photon-photon dispersion is of practical relevance. We determine the refractive index for all energies and find that, for fixed energy density, background photons below the pair-production threshold dominate. The cosmic microwave background alone provides an "effective photon mass" of (m_gamma)^2 = -(1.01 neV * E/TeV)^2 for E < 1000 TeV. The extragalactic backgro…
New physics at a high scale Lambda can affect top-related observables at O(1/Lambda^2) via the interference of effective four quark operators with the SM amplitude. The (\bar{u} gamma_mu gamma^5 T^a u)(\bar{t} gamma^mu gamma^5 T^a t) operator modifies the large M_{t\bar{t}} forward-backward asymmetry, and can account for the recent CDF measurement. The (\bar{u} gamma_mu T^a u)(\bar{t} gamma^mu T^a t) operator modifies the differential cross section, but cannot enhance the cross section of ultra-massive boosted jets by more than 60%. The hint for a larger enhancement from a recent CDF measureme…
The study of radiative phi decays into scalar mesons, with subsequent decay into pi pi gamma, constitutes an important topic at the electron-positron collider DAPHNE. The interference of the respective amplitude with the one for pi+ pi- gamma production, where the photon originates from initial state radiation, will allow for unambiguous tests of models for the phi -> gamma f0(-> pi pi) amplitude. The forward-backward asymmetry of charged pions, which is a clear signal of such an interference, amounts up to 30 % and is at the same time quite sensitive to the details of the various amplitudes. …
Exchange of unparticle stuff of dimension $d_\U$ with FCNC interaction can induce $M^{12,u}$ and $Γ^{12,u}$ causing meson and anti-meson mixing with the relation $Γ^{12,u}/M^{12,u} = 2 \tan(πd_\U)$. We show that this type of unparticle contribution can provide the much needed large $Γ^{12}_s$ to explain the recently observed anomalously large dimuon asymmetry in $B_s -\bar B_s$ system reported by D0 collaboration. The same interaction can also accommodate large mixing induced CP violation in $B_s \to J/ψϕ$ indicated by CDF and D0 data. Experimental data can provide constraints on the unparticl…
A general analysis of the three-vertex loop amplitude in a strong magnetic field, based on the asymptotic form of the electron propagator in the field, is performed. In order to investigate the photon-neutrino process gamma gamma -> nu bar nu, the vertex combinations of the scalar-vector-vector (SVV), pseudoscalar-vector-vector (PVV), 3-vector (VVV), and axial-vector-vector-vector (AVV) types are considered. It is shown that only the SVV amplitude grows linearly with the magnetic field strength, while in the other amplitudes, PVV, VVV, and AVV, the linearly growing terms are cancelled. The pro…
We apply the axion-photon conversion mechanism to the 130 GeV $γ$-ray line observed by the Fermi satellite. Near the Galactic center, some astrophysical sources and/or particle dark matter can produce energetic axions (or axionlike particles), and the axions convert to $γ$ rays in Galactic magnetic fields along their flight to the Earth. Since continuum $γ$-ray and antiproton productions are sufficiently suppressed in axion production, the scenario fits the 130 GeV $γ$-ray line without conflicting with cosmic ray measurements. We derive the axion production cross section and the decay rate of …
We perform a detailed analysis of lepton flavour violation (LFV) within minimal see-saw type extensions of the Standard Model (SM), which give a viable mechanism of neutrino mass generation and provide new particle content at the electroweak scale. We focus, mainly, on predictions and constraints set on each scenario from mu --> e gamma, mu --> 3e and mu - e conversion in the nuclei. In this class of models, the flavour structure of the Yukawa couplings between the additional scalar and fermion representations and the SM leptons is highly constrained by neutrino oscillation measurements. In pa…
The transverse lepton polarization asymmetry in pi_e2gamma decay may probe T-violating interactions beyond the Standard Model. Dalitz plot distributions of the expected effects are presented and compared to the contribution from the Standard Model final state interactions. We give an example of a phenomenologically viable model, where a considerable contribution to the transverse lepton polarization asymmetry arises.
The transverse lepton polarization asymmetry in pi_l2gamma decays may probe T-violating interactions beyond the Standard Model. Dalitz plot distributions of the expected effects are presented and compared to the contribution from the Standard Model final state interactions. We give an example of a phenomenologically viable model, where a considerable contribution to the transverse lepton polarization asymmetry arises.
In this literature we show how the scotogenic frame work can be a common origin for explaining neutrino mass, lepton asymmetry and give a dark matter candidate. We start out with the extension of the Standard Model with fermions, which are odd under a discrete symmetry, with the SM-like fermions we also have a doublet scalar field like Higgs but odd under discrete symmetry. This model has potential similar to the inert doublet model, which implies we can have a Dark Matter candidate similar to IDM, the Dark matter aspect and calculation of DM parameters are not discussed extensively. In this m…
We consider the gluino-mediated SUSY contributions to B0 - B0 bar mixing, B -> J/psi K_S and B -> X_d gamma in the mass insertion approximation. We find the LL mixing parameter can be as large as |delta_{13}^d_{LL}| < 2*10^-1, but the LR mixing is strongly constrained by the B -> X_d gamma branching ratio and we find |delta_{13}^d_{LR}| < 10^-2. The implications for the direct CP asymmetry in B -> X_d gamma and the dilepton charge asymmetry (A_{ll}) are also discussed, where substantial deviations from the standard model predictions are possible.
We consider the partial rate asymmetry in the inclusive decay modes b to s gamma and b to d gamma, concentrating on non-standard models with new charged Higgs interactions. We find that the charged Higgs contribution to the asymmetry for b to s gamma is small in such models due to a universal cancellation mechanism. The asymmetry is therefore difficult to distinguish experimentally from the Standard Model (SM) value, which is also small. The cancellation mechanism is found to be rendered inoperative in supersymmetry due to the presence of chargino loops. Unlike b to s gamma, the rate asymmetry…
We propose two novel methods for testing the standard model using external photon conversion at a high-luminosity e^+e^- B factory proposed recently. The first method is to measure the mixing-induced CP-violation parameter S_{pi^0pi^0} in B^0 --> pi^0 pi^0 decays. The precision of S_{pi^0pi^0} is estimated to be 0.23 from a Monte Carlo study for a data sample containing 50 x 10^9 BBbar pairs. We demonstrate that this measurement is crucial for reducing the discrete ambiguity of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa angle phi_2 determined from the isospin analysis with B --> pi pi decays. The second me…
We consider the gluino-mediated SUSY contributions to B0 - B0 bar mixing, B -> J/psi K_S and B -> X_d gamma in the mass insertion approximation. We find the (LL) mixing parameter can be as large as |delta_{13}^d_{LL}| < 2*10^-1, but the (LR) mixing is strongly constrained by the B -> X_d gamma branching ratio and we find |delta_{13}^d_{LR}| < 10^-2. The implications for the direct CP asymmetry in B -> X_d gamma and the dilepton charge asymmetry (A_{ll}) are also discussed, where substantial deviations from the standard model predictions are possible.
The observation of a sizable direct CP asymmetry in the inclusive decays B -> X_s gamma would be a clean signal of New Physics. In the Standard Model, this asymmetry is below 1% in magnitude. In extensions of the Standard Model with new CP-violating couplings, large asymmetries are possible without conflicting with the experimental value of the B -> X_s gamma branching ratio. In particular, large asymmetries arise naturally in models with enhanced chromo-magnetic dipole transitions. Some generic examples of such models are explored and their implications for the semileptonic branching ratio an…
We show -- by explicit computation of first-order corrections -- that the QCD factorization approach previously applied to hadronic two-body decays and to form factor ratios also allows us to compute non-factorizable corrections to exclusive, radiative B meson decays in the heavy quark mass limit. This removes a major part of the theoretical uncertainty in the region of small invariant mass of the photon. We discuss in particular the decays B\to K^* γand B\to K^* l^+l^- and complete the calculation of corrections to the forward-backward asymmetry zero. The new correction shifts the asymmetry z…
