A few questions related to white dwarfs' physics is posed. It seems that the modified gravity framework can be a good starting point to provide alternative explanations to cooling processes, their age determination, and Chandrasekhar mass limits. Moreover, we have also obtained the Chandrasekhar limit coming from Palatini $f(\mathcal{R})$ gravity provided by a simple Lane-Emden model.

GRMHD formulation of highly super-Chandrasekhar magnetized white dwarfs: stable configurations of non-spherical white dwarfs

The topic of magnetized super-Chandrasekhar white dwarfs is in the limelight, particularly in the last few years, since our proposal of their existence. By full-scale general relativistic magnetohydrodynamic (GRMHD) numerical analysis, we confirm in this work the existence of stable, highly magnetized, significantly super-Chandrasekhar white dwarfs with mass more than 3 solar mass. Here we extend the exploration of significantly super-Chandrasekhar magnetised white dwarfs by numerically computing axisymmetric stationary equilibria of differentially rotating magnetised polytropic compact stars in general relativity (GR), within the ideal magnetohydrodynamic regime. We use a general relativistic magnetohydrodynamic (GRMHD) framework that describes rotating and magnetised axisymmetric white dwarfs, choosing appropriate rotation laws and magnetic field profiles (toroidal and poloidal). Cooling Process of White Dwarf Stars in Palatini $f(R)$ Gravity

A simple cooling model of white dwarf stars is re-analyzed in Palatini $f(R)$ gravity. Modified gravity affects the white dwarf structures and consequently their ages. We find that the resulting super-Chandrasekhar white dwarfs need more time to cool down than sub-Chandrasekhar ones, or when compared to the Newtonian models.

Timescales for Detecting Magnetized White Dwarfs in Gravitational Wave Astronomy

Over the past couple of decades, researchers have predicted more than a dozen super-Chandrasekhar white dwarfs from the detections of over-luminous type Ia supernovae. It turns out that magnetic fields and rotation can explain such massive white dwarfs. White Dwarf Critical Tests for Modified Gravity

Scalar-tensor theories of gravity can lead to modifications of the gravitational force inside astrophysical objects. We exhibit that compact stars such as white dwarfs provide a unique set-up to test beyond Horndeski theories of ${\rm G}^3$ type. We obtain stringent and independent constraints on the parameter $Υ$ characterizing the deviations from Newtonian gravity using the mass-radius relation, the Chandrasekhar mass limit and the maximal rotational frequency of white dwarfs. We find that white dwarfs impose stronger constraints on $Υ$ than red and brown dwarfs.

Properties of white dwarfs in Einstein-$Λ$ gravity

In this paper, we explore the properties of white dwarfs with the modified TOV equation in Einstein-$Λ$ gravity, the equilibrium configurations predict a maximum mass limit for white dwarfs same as the Chandrasekhar limit when we consider $Λ$ to be very small($Λ<10^{-16}$ m$^{-2}$), by increasing $Λ$, the maximum mass and radius of white dwarf are reduced. Probing white dwarf interiors with LISA: periastron precession in double white dwarfs

In globular clusters, dynamical interactions give rise to a population of eccentric double white dwarfs detectable by the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) up to the Large Magellanic Cloud. In this Letter, we explore the detectability of periastron precession in these systems with LISA. Low Frequency Gravitational Waves from White Dwarf MACHO Binaries

The possibility that Galactic halo MACHOs are white dwarfs has recently attracted much attention. Using the known properties of white dwarf binaries in the Galactic disk as a model, we estimate the possible contribution of halo white dwarf binaries to the low-frequency (10^{-5} Hz} < f < 10^{-1}Hz) gravitational wave background.
