Fun with colours: the standard model with two colour QCD has radically different long distance physics

In our world the standard model of particle physics contains within it the fairly intractable theory called QCD. A toy version with two colours is often studied as a model confining and chiral symmetry breaking field theory. Here we investigate the cascade of changes at various distance scales if we make this change within the standard model. It is possible to limit the changes at the hadronic scale. However, the minor changes that occur actually cascade down to the far infrared, into nuclear and atomic physics, and chemistry. Through this it also possibly affects the evolution of stars and galaxies. We remark on this unexpected sensitivity of the universe to physics at the scale of quarks.

A dual order parameter from fundamentally colour charged matter

The center phase transition of QCD and of fundamentally charged scalar QCD at non-vanishing temperature is investigated within a Dyson-Schwinger approach. The temperature dependence of the scalar/quark propagator is studied with generalized boundary conditions. A novel order parameter for the center phase transition is established which still exhibits a considerable dependence on the scalar/quark-gluon vertex.

Energy Losses (Gains) of Massive Coloured Particles in Stochastic Colour Medium

The propagation of massive coloured particles in stochastic background chromoelectric field is studied using the semiclassical equations of motion. Depending on the nature of the stochastic background we obtain the formulae for the energy losses of heavy coloured projectile in nonperturbative hadronic medium and for the energy gains in the stochastic field present, e.g., in the turbulent plasma. The result appears to be significantly dependent on the form of the correlation function of stochastic external field

Rings and strings: a basis for understanding subleading colour and QCD coherence beyond the two-jet limit

Guided by the colour-diagonal structure of collinear singularities, we identify a set of kinematic basis functions that are well suited to the simplification of soft gluon emission amplitudes. In particular, these basis functions, which emerge naturally in the colour flow basis, isolate the subleading colour contributions and improve the statistical convergence of the CVolver amplitude-evolution code. They also allow us to extend current angular-ordered parton showers beyond the azimuthally-averaged, two-jet limit.

BFKL Pomeron at non-zero temperature and integrability of the Reggeon dynamics in multi-colour QCD

We consider the QCD scattering amplitudes at high energies sqrt{s} and fixed momentum transfers sqrt{-t} in the leading logarithmic approximation at a non-zero temperature T in the t-channel. It is shown that the BFKL Hamiltonian has the property of holomorphic separability. The Pomeron wave function for arbitrary T is calculated using an integral of motion. In multi-colour QCD, the holomorphic Hamiltonian for n-reggeized gluons at temperature T is shown to coincide with the local Hamiltonian of an integrable Heisenberg model and can be obtained from the T=0 Hamiltonian by an unitary transform…

Colour Fields Computed in SU(3) Lattice QCD for the Static Tetraquark System

The colour fields created by the static tetraquark system are computed in quenched SU(3) lattice QCD, in a 24^3 x 48 lattice at beta=6.2 corresponding to a lattice spacing a=0.07261(85) fm. We find that the tetraquark colour fields are well described by a double-Y, or butterfly, shaped flux tube. The two flux tube junction points are compatible with Fermat points minimizing the total flux tube length. We also compare the diquark-diantiquark central flux tube profile in the tetraquark with the quark-antiquark fundamental flux tube profile in the meson, and they match, thus showing that the tetr…

Can quantized fragmentation replace colour reconnection models ?

A brief overview of properties of the model of quantized fragmentation of a helical QCD string is followed by the discussion of colour reconnection models and of the ways to reproduce the evolution of the average transverse momentum in hadronic events, as function of charged particle multiplicity. Reference to recent experimental data is included.

Two-loop leading colour helicity amplitudes for $W^\pmγ+j$ production at the LHC

We present the two-loop leading colour QCD helicity amplitudes for the process $pp\to W(\to lν)γ+j$. We implement a complete reduction of the amplitudes, including the leptonic decay of the $W$-boson, using finite field arithmetic, and extract the analytic finite remainders using a recently identified basis of special functions. Simplified analytic expressions are obtained after considering permutations of a rational kinematic parametrisation and multivariate partial fractioning. Initial-state showering based on colour dipoles connected to incoming parton lines

A parton-shower model for hadronic collisions based on the emission properties of QCD dipoles is proposed. This proposal therefore extends the well-known radiation pattern of pure final-state colour dipoles to QCD initial-state radiation, both of which are treated perturbatively. Corresponding dipole splitting functions are derived and the kinematics of all dipole splittings is discussed. Application to hadron production in electron-positron annihilation, to Drell-Yan lepton-pair and QCD jet production yields encouraging results.

Squeezed gluon vacuum and the global colour model of QCD

We discuss how the vacuum model of Celenza and Shakin with a squeezed gluon condensate can explain the existence of an infrared singular gluon propagator frequently used in calculations within the global colour model. In particular, it reproduces a recently proposed QCD-motivated model where low energy chiral parameters were computed as a function of a dynamically generated gluon mass. We show how the strength of the confining interaction of this gluon propagator and the value of the physical gluon condensate may be connected.

All-order colour structure and two-loop anomalous dimension of soft radiation in heavy-particle pair production at the LHC

We consider the factorization and resummation of soft and Coulomb gluons for pair-production processes of heavy coloured particles at hadron colliders, and discuss: the construction of a colour basis that diagonalizes the leading soft function to all orders in perturbation theory; the determination of the two-loop soft anomalous dimension needed for NNLL resummations; and a general formula that provides all logarithmically enhanced O(alpha_s^2) correction requiring as process-independent input only the one-loop hard matching coefficients.

The Global Colour Model of QCD for Hadronic Process - a Review

The Global Colour Model (GCM) of QCD is a quark-gluon quantum field theory that very successfully models QCD for low energy hadronic processes. An effective gluon correlator models the interaction between quark currents. Functional integral calculus allows the GCM to be hadronised (i.e. expressed in terms of meson and baryon fields). The dominant configuration of the hadronic functional integrals is revealed to be the constituent quark effect, and is identical to one version of the truncated quark Dyson-Schwinger equations (tDSE). Soft radiation in heavy-particle pair production: all-order colour structure and two-loop anomalous dimension

We present a factorization formula for the production of pairs of heavy coloured particles in hadronic collisions at the production threshold, which forms the basis for the resummation of soft gluons and Coulomb gluons. We construct a basis in colour space that diagonalizes the soft function appearing in the factorization formula to all orders in perturbation theory. This extends recent results on the structure of soft anomalous dimensions and allows us to determine an analytic expression for the two-loop soft anomalous dimension at threshold for all production processes of interest.
