Most of the current anti-jamming algorithms for wireless communications only consider how to avoid jamming attacks, but ignore that the communication waveform or frequency action may be obtained by the jammers. Although existing anti-jamming methods can guarantee temporary communication effects, the long-term performance of these anti-jamming methods may be depressed when intelligent jammers are capable of learning from historical communication activities. Aiming at this issue, a hidden anti-jamming method based on the idea of reducing the jammer's sense probability is proposed. Firstly, the sensing probability of the jammer is obtained by calculating the correlation between the actions of the jammer and the user. Later, a deep reinforcement learning framework is designed, which aims at not only maximizing the communication throughput but also minimizing the action's correlation between the jammer and the user. Finally, a hidden anti-jamming algorithm is proposed, which links the instantaneous return with the communication quality of users and the correlation between users and jammer. The simulation result shows that the proposed algorithm not only avoids being sensed by the jammer but also improves its anti-jamming performance compared to the current algorithm that only considers jamming avoidance.
This letter investigates the problem of anti-jamming communications in dynamic and unknown environment through on-line learning. Different from existing studies which need to know (estimate) the jamming patterns and parameters, we use the spectrum waterfall, i.e., the raw spectrum environment, directly. Firstly, to cope with the challenge of infinite state of raw spectrum information, a deep anti-jamming Q-network is constructed. Then, a deep anti-jamming reinforcement learning algorithm is proposed to obtain the optimal anti-jamming strategies. Finally, simulation results validate the the pro…
We consider a land mobile satellite communication system using spread spectrum techniques where the uplink is exposed to MT jamming attacks, and the downlink is corrupted by multi-path fading channels. We proposes an anti-jamming receiver, which exploits inherent low-dimensionality of the received signal model, by formulating a robust principal component analysis (Robust PCA)-based recovery problem. Simulation results verify that the proposed receiver outperforms the conventional receiver for a reasonable rank of the jamming signal.
This paper investigates the anti-jamming performance of the NR-DCSK system. We consider several practical jamming environments including broad-band jamming (BBJ), partial-time jamming (PTJ), tone jamming (TJ) consisting of both single-tone and multi-tone, and sweep jamming (SWJ). We first analytically derived the bit error rates of the considered system under the BBJ and the PTJ environments in closed-form expressions. Our derived results show that the system performances under these two jamming environments are enhanced as $P$ increases, where $P$ is the parameter of the NR-DCSK modulation sc…
Jamming attacks can significantly impact the performance of wireless communication systems. In addition to reducing the capacity, such attacks may lead to insurmountable overhead in terms of re-transmissions and increased power consumption. In this paper, we consider the multiple-input single-output (MISO) broadcast channel (BC) in the presence of a jamming attack in which a subset of the receivers can be jammed at any given time. Further, countermeasures for mitigating the effects of such jamming attacks are presented. The effectiveness of these anti-jamming countermeasures is quantified in t…
The effectiveness of frequency hopping for anti-jamming protection of wireless channels is analyzed from an information-theoretic perspective. The sender can input its symbols into one of several frequency subbands at a time. Each subband channel is modeled as an additive noise channel. No common randomness between sender and receiver is assumed. It is shown that capacity is positive, and then equals the common randomness assisted (CR) capacity, if and only if the sender power strictly exceeds the jammer power. Thus compared to transmission over any fixed frequency subband, frequency hopping i…
To improve the anti-jamming ability of the UAV-aided communication systems, this paper investigates the channel selection optimization problem in face of both internal mutual interference and external malicious jamming. A cooperative anti-jamming method based on local altruistic is proposed to optimize UAVs' channel selection. Specifically, a Stackelberg game is modeled to formulate the confrontation relationship between UAVs and the jammer. A local altruistic game is modeled with each UAV considering the utilities of both itself and other UAVs. A distributed cooperative anti-jamming algorithm…
Providing quality communications under adversarial electronic attacks, e.g., broadband jamming attacks, is a challenging task. Unlike state-of-the-art approaches which treat jamming signals as destructive interference, this paper presents a novel active anti-jamming (AAJ) scheme for a jammed channel to enhance the communication quality between a transmitter node (TN) and receiver node (RN), where the TN actively exploits the jamming signal as a carrier to send messages. Specifically, the TN is equipped with a programmable-gain amplifier, which is capable of re-modulating the jamming signals fo…
This letter proposes anti-jamming strategies based on pilot retransmission for a single user uplink massive MIMO under jamming attack. A jammer is assumed to attack the system both in the training and data transmission phases. We first derive an achievable rate which enables us to analyze the effect of jamming attacks on the system performance. Counter-attack strategies are then proposed to mitigate this effect under two different scenarios: random and deterministic jamming attacks. Numerical results illustrate our analysis and benefit of the proposed schemes.
In this work, we consider an advanced noise reduction differential chaotic shift keying (NR-DCSK) system in which a single antenna source communicates with a single antenna destination under the attack of a single antenna jammer. We devote our efforts to design a novel anti-jamming (AJ) receiver for the considered system. Particularly, we propose a variational mode decomposition-independent component analysis-wavelet packet decomposition-based (VMD-ICA-WPD-based) structure, in which the VMD method is firstly exploited to generate multiple signals from the single received one. Secondly, the ICA…
One significant challenge in cognitive radio networks is to design a framework in which the selfish secondary users are obliged to interact with each other truthfully. Moreover, due to the vulnerability of these networks against jamming attacks, designing anti-jamming defense mechanisms is equally important. %providing the security defense is also of great importance. In this paper, we propose a truthful mechanism, robust against the jamming, for a dynamic stochastic cognitive radio network consisting of several selfish secondary users and a malicious user. In this model, each secondary user p…

For multi-band wireless ad hoc networks of multiple users, an anti-jamming game between the users and a jammer is studied. In this game, the users (resp. jammer) want to maximize (resp. minimize) the expected rewards of the users taking into account various factors such as communication rate, hopping cost, and jamming loss. We analyze the arms race of the game and derive an optimal frequency hopping policy at each stage of the arms race based on the Markov decision process (MDP). It is analytically shown that the arms race reaches an equilibrium after a few rounds, and a frequency hopping poli…

This work proposes a novel resource allocation strategy for anti-jamming in Cognitive Radio using Active Inference ($\textit{AIn}$), and a cognitive-UAV is employed as a case study. An Active Generalized Dynamic Bayesian Network (Active-GDBN) is proposed to represent the external environment that jointly encodes the physical signal dynamics and the dynamic interaction between UAV and jammer in the spectrum. We cast the action and planning as a Bayesian inference problem that can be solved by avoiding surprising states (minimizing abnormality) during online learning. Simulation results verify t…

Due to its scale and largely interconnected nature, the Internet of Things (IoT) will be vulnerable to a number of security threats that range from physical layer attacks to network layer attacks. In this paper, a novel anti-jamming strategy for OFDM-based IoT systems is proposed which enables an IoT controller to protect the IoT devices against a malicious radio jammer. The interaction between the controller node and the jammer is modeled as a Colonel Blotto game with continuous and asymmetric resources in which the IoT controller, acting as defender, seeks to thwart the jamming attack by dis…
In this paper, we introduce DeepFake, a novel deep reinforcement learning-based deception strategy to deal with reactive jamming attacks. In particular, for a smart and reactive jamming attack, the jammer is able to sense the channel and attack the channel if it detects communications from the legitimate transmitter. To deal with such attacks, we propose an intelligent deception strategy which allows the legitimate transmitter to transmit "fake" signals to attract the jammer. Then, if the jammer attacks the channel, the transmitter can leverage the strong jamming signals to transmit data by us…
In this paper, we study an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) enabled data collection system, where an intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) is deployed to assist in the communication from a cluster of Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices to a UAV in the presence of a jammer. We aim to improve the energy efficiency (EE) via the joint design of UAV trajectory, IRS passive beamforming, device power allocation, and communication scheduling. However, the formulated non-linear fractional programming problem is challenging to solve due to its non-convexity and coupled variables. To overcome the difficulty, we…
We address the resilience of future 6G MIMO communications by considering an uplink scenario where multiple legitimate transmitters try to communicate with a base station in the presence of an adversarial jammer. The jammer possesses full knowledge about the system and the physical parameters of the legitimate link, while the base station only knows the UL-channels and the angle-of-arrival (AoA) of the jamming signals. Furthermore, the legitimate transmitters are oblivious to the fact that jamming takes place, thus the burden of guaranteeing resilience falls on the receiver. For this case we d…
