Many $q$-ary stabilizer quantum codes can be constructed from Hermitian self-orthogonal $q^2$-ary linear codes. This result can be generalized to $q^{2 m}$-ary linear codes, $m > 1$. We give a result for easily obtaining quantum codes from that generalization. As a consequence we provide several new binary stabilizer quantum codes which are records according to \cite{codet} and new $q$-ary ones, with $q \neq 2$, improving others in the literature.
The intersection ${\bf C}\bigcap {\bf C}^{\perp_H}$ of a linear code ${\bf C} \subset {\bf F}_{q^2}$ and its Hermitian dual ${\bf C}^{\perp_H}$ is called the Hermitian hull of this code. A linear code ${\bf C} \subset {\bf F}_{q^2}$ satisfying ${\bf C} \subset {\bf C}^{\perp_H}$ is called Hermitian self-orthogonal. Many Hermitian self-orthogonal codes were given for the construction of MDS quantum error correction codes (QECCs). In this paper we prove that for a nonnegative integer $h$ satisfying $0 \leq h \leq k$, a linear Hermitian self-orthogonal $[n, k]_{q^2}$ code is equivalent to a linea…
There has been a lot of effort to construct good quantum codes from the classical error correcting codes. Constructing new quantum codes, using Hermitian self-orthogonal codes, seems to be a difficult problem in general. In this paper, Hermitian self-orthogonal codes are studied from algebraic function fields. Sufficient conditions for the Hermitian self-orthogonality of an algebraic geometry code are presented. New Hermitian self-orthogonal codes are constructed from projective lines, elliptic curves, hyper-elliptic curves, Hermitian curves, and Artin-Schreier curves. In addition, over the pr…
We prove that any Hermitian self-orthogonal $[n,k,d]_{q^2}$ code gives rise to an $[n,k,d]_{q^2}$ code with $\ell$ dimensional Hermitian hull for $0\le \ell \le k$. We present a new method to construct Hermitian self-orthogonal $[n,k]_{q^2}$ codes with large dimensions $k>\frac{n+q-1}{q+1}$. New families of Hermitian self-orthogonal codes with good parameters are obtained; more precisely those containing almost MDS codes. By applying a puncturing technique to Hermitian self-orthogonal codes, MDS $[n,k]_{q^2}$ linear codes with Hermitian hull having large dimensions $k>\frac{n+q-1}{q+1}$ are al…
We prove that if $n >k^2$ then a $k$-dimensional linear code of length $n$ over ${\mathbb F}_{q^2}$ has a truncation which is linearly equivalent to a Hermitian self-orthogonal linear code. In the contrary case we prove that truncations of linear codes to codes equivalent to Hermitian self-orthogonal linear codes occur when the columns of a generator matrix of the code do not impose independent conditions on the space of Hermitian forms. In the case that there are more than $n$ common zeros to the set of Hermitian forms which are zero on the columns of a generator matrix of the code, the addit…
We prove that there is a Hermitian self-orthogonal $k$-dimensional truncated generalised Reed-Solomon code of length $n \leqslant q^2$ over ${\mathbb F}_{q^2}$ if and only if there is a polynomial $g \in {\mathbb F}_{q^2}$ of degree at most $(q-k)q-1$ such that $g+g^q$ has $q^2-n$ distinct zeros. This allows us to determine the smallest $n$ for which there is a Hermitian self-orthogonal $k$-dimensional truncated generalised Reed-Solomon code of length $n$ over ${\mathbb F}_{q^2}$, verifying a conjecture of Grassl and Rötteler. We also provide examples of Hermitian self-orthogonal $k$-dimension…
For $r \geq 1$ an odd integer, we provide a sequence from the function field $\mathcal{F}_{q, r}$ of the maximal curve over $\mathbb{F}_{q^{2r}}$ defined by the affine equation $y^q+y=x^{q^r + 1}$. This sequence has high nonlinear complexity, and this fact comes from the existence of a rational function on $\mathcal{F}_{q, r}$ with pole divisor of small degree, and support in certain $q$ rational places.
In this work, we study and determine the dimensions of Euclidean and Hermitian hulls of two classical propagation rules, namely, the direct sum construction and the $(\mathbf{u},\mathbf{u+v})$-construction. Some new criteria for the resulting codes derived from these two propagation rules being self-dual, self-orthogonal, or linear complementary dual (LCD) codes are given. As an application, we construct some linear codes with prescribed hull dimensions, many new binary, ternary Euclidean formally self-dual (FSD) LCD codes, and quaternary Hermitian FSD LCD codes. Some new even-like, odd-like, …
