Exclusive dilepton production at forward rapidities in $PbPb$ collisions

The dilepton production in diffractive and exclusive processes at forward rapidities considering ultraperipheral $PbPb$ collisions at the LHC is investigated. Predictions for the $e^+ e^-$, $μ^+ μ^-$ and $τ^+ τ^-$ cross sections are presented taking into account of realistic cuts that can be implemented by the LHCb Collaboration in a future experimental analysis. Our results indicate that the background associated with the diffractive production can be strongly suppressed and the exclusive processes can be cleanly separated. For the $τ^+ τ^-$ production, the semi and purely leptonic decay channels are considered. Our results indicate that a future experimental analysis of the dilepton production at the LHCb is feasible and can be useful to search for BSM physics.

Exclusive dilepton production in ultraperipheral $PbPb$ collisions at the LHC

In this paper we perform a systematic study of the exclusive dilepton production by $γγ$ interactions in $PbPb$ collisions at the LHC Run 2 energies considering different levels of precision for the treatment of the absorptive corrections and for the nuclear form factor. The rapidity and invariant mass distributions are estimated taking into account the experimental cutoffs and a comparison with the recent ALICE and ATLAS data for the $e^+ e^-$ and $μ^+ μ^-$ production is presented.

Dilepton distributions at backward rapidities

The dilepton production at backward rapidities in $pAu$ and $pp$ collisions at RHIC and LHC energies is investigated in the dipole approach. The results are shown through the nuclear modification ratio $R_{pA}$ considering transverse momentum and rapidity spectra. The dilepton modification ratio presents interesting behavior at the backward rapidities when compared with the already known forward ones, since it is related with the large $x$ kinematical region that is being probed. Nuclear suppression of dileptons at forward rapidities

Data from E772 and E866 experiments on the Drell-Yan process exhibit a significant nuclear suppression at large Feynman xF. We show that a corresponding kinematic region does not allow to interpret this as a manifestation of coherence or a Color Glass Condensate. We demonstrate, however, that this suppression can be treated alternatively as an effective energy loss proportional to initial energy. Drell-Yan production at forward rapidities: a hybrid factorization approach

We discuss the Drell-Yan production of dileptons at high energies in the forward rapidity region of proton-proton collisions in a hybrid high-energy approach. This approach uses unintegrated gluon distributions in one proton and collinear quark/antiquark distributions in the second proton. Searching for axionlike particles with low masses in $pPb$ and $PbPb$ collisions

The production of axionlike particles (ALPs) with small masses in ultraperipheral $Pb - p$ and $Pb - Pb$ collisions at the LHC is investigated. The cross section and kinematical distributions associated to the diphoton final state produced in the $γγ\rightarrow a \rightarrow γγ$ subprocesses are estimated considering a realistic set of kinematical cuts. Electromagnetic Signatures of the Color Glass Condensate: Dileptons

We evaluate the invariant cross section for production of dileptons in forward rapidities at RHIC and LHC, using the Color Glass Condensate formalism and present results for the nuclear modification factor $R_{d(p)A}$ as a function of dilepton invariant mass for the most central deuteron (proton)-nucleus collisions.

Upcgen: a Monte Carlo simulation program for dilepton pair production in ultra-peripheral collisions of heavy ions

Ultra-peripheral collisions (UPCs) of heavy ions can be used as a clean environment to study two-photon induced interactions such as dilepton pair photoproduction. Components of the dilepton continuum in Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}} = 2.76 $ TeV

Forward rapidity isolated photon production in proton-nucleus collisions

We calculate isolated photon production at forward rapidities in proton-nucleus collisions in the Color Glass Condensate framework. Our calculation uses dipole cross sections solved from the running coupling Balitsky-Kovchegov equation with an initial condition fit to deep inelastic scattering data and extended to nuclei with an optical Glauber procedure that introduces no additional parameters beyond the basic nuclear geometry. Production of Low Mass Electron Pairs Due to the Photon-Photon Mechanism in Central Collisions

We calculate the probability for dilepton production in central relativistic heavy ion collisions due to the gamma-gamma mechanism. This is a potential background to more interesting mechanisms. We find that this mechanism is negligible in the CERES experiments. Generally, the contribution due to this mechanism is small in the central region, while it can be large for small invariant masses and forward or backward rapidities. A simple formula based on the equivalent photon approximation and applications to a possible scenario at RHIC are also given.
