We prove global in time dispersion for the wave and the Klein-Gordon equation inside the Friedlander domain by taking full advantage of the space-time localization of caustics and a precise estimate of the number of waves that may cross at a given, large time. Moreover, we uncover a significant difference between Klein-Gordon and the wave equation in the low frequency, large time regime, where Klein-Gordon exhibits a worse decay that the wave, unlike in the flat space.
Building on the hyperboloidal foliation approach of Lefloch and Ma, we extend Klainerman's physical-space approach to dispersive estimates to recover the frequency-restricted $L^1$--$L^\infty$ dispersive estimates for Klein-Gordon equations. The hyperboloidal foliation approach naturally only provide estimates within a fixed forward light-cone, and is based on an initial data norm that is not translation invariant. Both of these problems can be handled with frequency-dependent physical-space truncations. To handle the lack of scaling symmetry for the Klein-Gordon equation and complete the argu…
In this paper we discuss some exact results related to the fractional Klein--Gordon equation involving fractional powers of the D'Alembert operator. By means of a space-time transformation, we reduce the fractional Klein--Gordon equation to a fractional hyper-Bessel-type equation. We find an exact analytic solution by using the McBride theory of fractional powers of hyper-Bessel operators. A discussion of these results within the framework of linear dispersive wave equations is provided. We also present exact solutions of the fractional Klein-Gordon equation in the higher dimensional cases. Fi…
We study the 1D Klein-Gordon equation with variable coefficient nonlinearity. This problem exhibits an interesting resonant interaction between the spatial frequencies of the nonlinear coefficients and the temporal oscillations of the solutions. In the case when only the cubic coefficients are variable we prove dispersive decay and smoothness of the solution in weighted spaces with the help of quadratic and cubic normal-forms transformations. In the case of cubic interactions these normal forms appear to be novel.
This paper is devoted to study the dispersive properties of the linear Klein-Gordon and wave equations on a class of locally symmetric spaces. As a consequence, we obtain the Strichartz estimate and prove global well-posedness results for the corresponding semilinear equation with low regularity data as on real hyperbolic spaces.
In this paper, we study the persistence of spatial analyticity for the solutions to the Klein-Gordon-Schrödinger system, which describes a physical system of a nucleon field interacting with a neutral meson field, with analytic initial data. Unlike the case of a single nonlinear dispersive equation, not much is known about nonlinear dispersive systems as it is harder to show the spatial analyticity of coupled equations simultaneously. The only results known so far are rather recent ones for the Dirac-Klein-Gordon system which governs the physical system when the nucleon is described by Dirac s…
We obtain a dispersive long-time decay in weighted energy norms for solutions of the 3D Klein-Gordon equation with generic potential. The decay extends the results obtained by Jensen and Kato for the 3D Schredinger equation. For the proof we modify the spectral approach of Jensen and Kato to make it applicable to relativistic equations.
In this paper, developing a new approach based on Fourier analysis methods for dispersive PDEs, we establish a low regularity NLS approximation for the one-dimensional cubic Klein-Gordon equation. Our main result includes energy class solutions which are formally asymptotically in $L^2(\mathbb{R})$. A precise rate of convergence is also obtained assuming more regularity.
We obtain a dispersive long-time decay in weighted energy norms for solutions of 3D Klein-Gordon equation with magnetic and scalar potentials. The decay extends the results obtained by Jensen and Kato for the Schroedinger equation with scalar potential. For the proof we develop the spectral theory of Agmon, Jensen and Kato and minimal escape velocities estimates of Hunziker, Sigal and Soffer.
For the nonlinear Klein-Gordon equation in R 1+d , we prove the existence of multi-solitary waves made of any number N of decoupled bound states. This extends the work of C{ô}te and Mu{ñ}oz (Forum Math. Sigma 2 (2014)) which was restricted to ground states, as were most previous similar results for other nonlinear dispersive and wave models.
The purpose of this article is twofold. First we give a very robust method for proving sharp time decay estimates for the most classical three models of dispersive Partial Differential Equations, the wave, Klein-Gordon and Schr{ö}dinger equations, on curved geometries, showing under very general assumptions the exact same decay as for the Euclidean case. Then we also extend these decay properties to the case of boundary value problems.

本研究针对一维半经典薛定谔方程,通过Van der Corput方法改进Strichartz估计,将损失从1/4降至1/6+ε,并推测高维Friedlander模型亦适用。
In this paper we prove the validity of a long wave Whitham approximation for a system consisting of a Boussinesq equation coupled with a Klein-Gordon equation. The proof is based on an infinite series of normal form transformations and an energy estimate. We expect that the concepts of this paper will be a part of a general approximation theory for Whitham's equations which are especially used in the description of slow modulations in time and space of periodic wave trains in general dispersive wave systems.
We investigate dispersive estimates for the Schrödinger operator $H=-Δ+V$ with $V$ is a real-valued decaying potential when there are zero energy resonances and eigenvalues in four spatial dimensions. If there is a zero energy obstruction, we establish the low-energy expansion $$ e^{itH}χ(H) P_{ac}(H)=O(1/(\log t)) A_0+ O(1/t)A_1+O((t\log t)^{-1})A_2+ O(t^{-1}(\log t)^{-2})A_3. $$ Here $A_0,A_1:L^1(\mathbb R^n)\to L^\infty (\mathbb R^n)$, while $A_2,A_3$ are operators between logarithmically weighted spaces, with $A_0,A_1,A_2$ finite rank operators, further the operators are independent of tim…
In this paper, we are interested in the two-dimensional Dirac-Klein-Gordon system, which is a basic model in particle physics. We investigate the global behaviors of small data solutions to this system in the case of a massive scalar field and a massless Dirac field. More precisely, our main result is twofold: 1) we show sharp time decay for the pointwise estimates of the solutions which imply the asymptotic stability of this system; 2) we show the linear scattering result of this system which is a fundamental problem when it is viewed as dispersive equations. Our result is valid for general s…
In this paper we obtain a global characterization of the dynamics of even solutions to the one-dimensional nonlinear Klein-Gordon (NLKG) equation on the line with focusing nonlinearity |u|^{p-1}u, p>5, provided their energy exceeds that of the ground state only sightly. The method is the same as in the three-dimensional case arXiv:1005.4894, the major difference being in the construction of the center-stable manifold. The difficulty there lies with the weak dispersive decay of 1-dimensional NLKG. In order to address this specific issue, we establish local dispersive estimates for the perturbed…
We prove the asymptotic stability of standing kink for the nonlinear relativistic wave equations of the Ginzburg-Landau type in one space dimension: for any odd initial condition in a small neighborhood of the kink, the solution, asymptotically in time, is the sum of the kink and dispersive part described by the free Klein-Gordon equation. The remainder converges to zero in a global norm. Crucial role in the proofs play our recent results on the weighted energy decay for the Klein-Gordon equations.
We consider the Klein--Gordon equation associated with the Laplace--Beltrami operator $Δ$ on real hyperbolic spaces of dimension $n\!\ge\!2$; as $Δ$ has a spectral gap, the wave equation is a particular case of our study. After a careful kernel analysis, we obtain dispersive and Strichartz estimates for a large family of admissible couples. As an application, we prove global well--posedness results for the corresponding semilinear equation with low regularity data.
We establish the Kato-type smoothing property, i.e., global-in-time smoothing estimates with homogeneous weights, for the Schrödinger equation on Riemannian symmetric spaces of non-compact type and general rank. These form a rich class of manifolds with nonpositive sectional curvature and exponential volume growth at infinity, e.g., hyperbolic spaces. We achieve it by proving the Stein-Weiss inequality and the resolvent estimate of the corresponding Fourier multiplier, which are of independent interest. Moreover, we extend the comparison principles to symmetric spaces and deduce different type…
We survey recent advances in the analysis of the large data global (and asymptotic) behaviour of nonlinear dispersive equations such as the nonlinear wave (NLW), nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS), wave maps (WM), Schrödinger maps (SM), generalised Korteweg-de Vries (gKdV), Maxwell-Klein-Gordon (MKG), and Yang-Mills (YM) equations. The classification of the nonlinearity as \emph{subcritical} (weaker than the linear dispersion at high frequencies), \emph{critical} (comparable to the linear dispersion at all frequencies), or \emph{supercritical} (stronger than the linear dispersion at high frequencies)…
We prove the asymptotic stability of the moving kinks for the nonlinear relativistic wave equations in one space dimension with a Ginzburg-Landau potential: starting in a small neighborhood of the kink, the solution, asymptotically in time, is the sum of a uniformly moving kink and dispersive part described by the free Klein-Gordon equation. The remainder decays in a global energy norm. Crucial role in the proofs play our recent results on the weighted energy decay for the Klein-Gordon equations.
The discrete Klein-Gordon equation on a two-dimensional square lattice satisfies an $\ell^1 \mapsto \ell^\infty$ dispersive bound with polynomial decay rate $|t|^{-3/4}$. We determine the shape of the light cone for any choice of the mass parameter and relative propagation speeds along the two coordinate axes. Fundamental solutions experience the least dispersion along four caustic lines interior to the light cone rather than along its boundary, and decay exponentially to arbitrary order outside the light cone. The overall geometry of the propagation pattern and its associated dispersive bound…
For general nonlinear Klein-Gordon equations with dissipation we show that any finite energy radial solution either blows up in finite time or asymptotically approaches a stationary solution in $H^1\times L^2$. In particular, any global solution is bounded. The result applies to standard energy subcritical focusing nonlinearities $|u|^{p-1} u$, $1\textless{}p\textless{}(d+2)/(d-2)$ as well as any energy subcritical nonlinearity obeying a sign condition of the Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz type. The argument involves both techniques from nonlinear dispersive PDEs and dynamical systems (invariant manifo…
We prove global smoothing and Strichartz estimates for the Schroedinger, wave, Klein-Gordon equations and for the massless and massive Dirac systems, perturbed with singular electromagnetic potentials. We impose a smallness condition on the magnetic part, while the electric part can be large. The decay and regularity assumptions on the coefficients are close to critical.
This paper focuses on a class of nonlinear Klein-Gordon equations in three dimensions, which are Hamiltonian perturbations of the linear Klein-Gordon equation with potential. The unperturbed dynamical system has a bound state with frequency $ω$, a spatially localized and time periodic solution. In quantum mechanics, metastable states, which last longer than expected, have been observed. These metastable states are a consequence of the instability of the bound state under the nonlinear Fermi's Golden Rule. In this study, we explore the underlying mathematical instability mechanism from the boun…
In this paper we study small amplitude solutions of nonlinear Klein Gordon equations with a potential. Under smoothness and decay assumptions on the potential and a genericity assumption on the nonlinearity, we prove that all small amplitude initial data with finite energy give rise to solutions asymptotically free. In the case where the linear system has at most one bound state the result was already proved by Soffer and Weinstein: we obtain here a result valid in the case of an arbitrary number of possibly degenerate bound states. The proof is based on a combination of Birkhoff normal form t…
We present a general algorithm to show that a scattering operator associated to a semilinear dispersive equation is real analytic, and to compute the coefficients of its Taylor series at any point. We illustrate this method in the case of the Schrodinger equation with power-like nonlinearity or with Hartree type nonlinearity, and in the case of the wave and Klein-Gordon equations with power nonlinearity. Finally, we discuss the link of this approach with inverse scattering, and with complete integrability.
Firstly, bilinear Fourier Restriction estimates --which are well-known for free waves-- are extended to adapted spaces of functions of bounded quadratic variation, under quantitative assumptions on the phase functions. This has applications to nonlinear dispersive equations, in particular in the presence of resonances. Secondly, critical global well-posedness and scattering results for massive Dirac-Klein-Gordon systems in dimension three are obtained, in resonant as well as in non-resonant regimes. The results apply to small initial data in scale-invariant Sobolev spaces exhibiting a small am…
In this paper we prove Strichartz estimates for the Dirac equation on asymptotically flat manifolds. The proof combines the weak dispersive estimates proved by the first two authors with the Strichartz and smoothing estimates for the wave and Klein-Gordon flows, exploiting some recent results in the same geometrical setting.
We establish sharp time decay estimates for the the Klein-Gordon equation on the cubic lattice in dimensions $d=2,3,4$. The $\ell^1\to\ell^{\infty}$ dispersive decay rate is $|t|^{-3/4}$ for $d=2$, $|t|^{-7/6}$ for $d=3$ and $|t|^{-3/2}\log|t|$ for $d=4$. These decay rates are faster than conjectured by Kevrekidis and Stefanov (2005). The proof relies on oscillatory integral estimates and proceeds by a detailed analysis of the the singularities of the associated phase function. We also prove new Strichartz estimates and discuss applications to nonlinear PDEs and spectral theory.
We establish the long time soliton asymptotics for the translation invariant nonlinear system consisting of the Klein-Gordon equation coupled to a charged relativistic particle. The coupled system has a six dimensional invariant manifold of the soliton solutions. We show that in the large time approximation any finite energy solution, with the initial state close to the solitary manifold, is a sum of a soliton and a dispersive wave which is a solution of the free Klein-Gordon equation. It is assumed that the charge density satisfies the Wiener condition which is a version of the ``Fermi Golden…
We review recent results on global attractors of U(1)-invariant dispersive Hamiltonian systems. We study several models based on the Klein-Gordon equation and sketch the proof that in these models, under certain generic assumptions, the weak global attractor is represented by the set of all solitary waves. In general, the attractors may also contain multifrequency solitary waves; we give examples of systems which contain such solutions.
We consider the Klein-Gordon equation on a star-shaped network composed of n half-axes connected at their origins. We add a potential which is constant but different on each branch. The corresponding spatial operator is self-adjoint and we state explicit expressions for its resolvent and its resolution of the identity in terms of generalized eigenfunctions. This leads to a generalized Fourier type inversion formula in terms of an expansion in generalized eigenfunctions. Further we prove the surjectivity of the associated transformation, thus showing that it is in fact a spectral representation…
We prove generalized Strichartz estimates for wave and massless Dirac equations in Aharonov-Bohm magnetic fields. Following a well established strategy to deal with scaling critical perturbations of dispersive PDEs, we make use of Hankel transform and rely on some precise estimates on Bessel functions. As a complementary result, we prove a local smoothing estimate for the Klein-Gordon equation in the same magnetic field.
The global attraction is established for all finite energy solutions to a model $\mathbf{U}(1)$-invariant nonlinear Klein-Gordon equation in one dimension coupled to a finite number of nonlinear oscillators: We prove that {\it each finite energy solution} converges as $t\to\pm\infty$ to the set of all ``nonlinear eigenfunctions'' of the form $ϕ(x)e\sp{-iωt}$ if all oscillators are strictly nonlinear, and the distances between all neighboring oscillators are sufficiently small. The {\it global attraction} is caused by the nonlinear energy transfer from lower harmonics to the continuous spectrum…
The paper describes a new approach to global smoothing problems for dispersive and non-dispersive evolution equations based on the global canonical transforms and the underlying global microlocal analysis. For this purpose, the Egorov-type theorem is established with canonical transformations in the form of a class of Fourier integral operators, and their weighted L2-boundedness properties are derived. This allows us to globally reduce general dispersive equations to normal forms in one or two dimensions. Then, several comparison principles are introduced to relate different smoothing estimate…
The long-time asymptotics is analyzed for all finite energy solutions to a model U(1)-invariant nonlinear Klein-Gordon equation in one dimension, with the nonlinearity concentrated at a single point: each finite energy solution converges as time goes to plus or minus infinity to the set of all ``nonlinear eigenfunctions'' of the form $ψ(x)e\sp{-iωt}$. The global attraction is caused by the nonlinear energy transfer from lower harmonics to the continuous spectrum and subsequent dispersive radiation. We justify this mechanism by the following novel strategy based on inflation of spectrum by the …
In this paper we use a unified way studying the decay estimate for a class of dispersive semigroup given by $e^{itϕ(\sqrt{-Δ})}$, where $ϕ: \mathbb{R}^+\to \mathbb{R}$ is smooth away from the origin. Especially, the decay estimates for the solutions of the Klein-Gordon equation and the beam equation are simplified and slightly improved.
