In this paper, a real-time method called PoP-Net is proposed to predict multi-person 3D poses from a depth image. PoP-Net learns to predict bottom-up part representations and top-down global poses in a single shot. Specifically, a new part-level representation, called Truncated Part Displacement Field (TPDF), is introduced which enables an explicit fusion process to unify the advantages of bottom-up part detection and global pose detection. Meanwhile, an effective mode selection scheme is introduced to automatically resolve the conflicting cases between global pose and part detections. Finally, due to the lack of high-quality depth datasets for developing multi-person 3D pose estimation, we introduce Multi-Person 3D Human Pose Dataset (MP-3DHP) as a new benchmark. MP-3DHP is designed to enable effective multi-person and background data augmentation in model training, and to evaluate 3D human pose estimators under uncontrolled multi-person scenarios. We show that PoP-Net achieves the state-of-the-art results both on MP-3DHP and on the widely used ITOP dataset, and has significant advantages in efficiency for multi-person processing. To demonstrate one of the applications of our algorithm pipeline, we also show results of virtual avatars driven by our calculated 3D joint positions. MP-3DHP Dataset and the evaluation code have been made available at: https://github.com/oppo-us-research/PoP-Net.

Recent studies show that apparent personality traits can be reflected from human facial behavior dynamics. However, most existing methods can only encode single-scale short-term facial behaviors in the latent features for personality recognition. In this paper, we propose to recognize apparent personality recognition approach which first trains a person-specific network for each subject, modelling multi-scale long-term person-specific behavior evolution of the subject. Consequently, we hypothesize that the weights of the network contain the person-specific facial behavior-related cues of the s…
Person search is to detect all persons and identify the query persons from detected persons in the image without proposals and bounding boxes, which is different from person re-identification. In this paper, we propose a fusing multi-task convolutional neural network(FMT-CNN) to tackle the correlation and heterogeneity of detection and re-identification with a single convolutional neural network. We focus on how the interplay of person detection and person re-identification affects the overall performance. We employ person labels in region proposal network to produce features for person re-ide…

This paper presents a novel person re-identification model, named Multi-Head Self-Attention Network (MHSA-Net), to prune unimportant information and capture key local information from person images. MHSA-Net contains two main novel components: Multi-Head Self-Attention Branch (MHSAB) and Attention Competition Mechanism (ACM). The MHSAB adaptively captures key local person information, and then produces effective diversity embeddings of an image for the person matching. The ACM further helps filter out attention noise and non-key information. Through extensive ablation studies, we verified that…

Pose variation is one of the key factors which prevents the network from learning a robust person re-identification (Re-ID) model. To address this issue, we propose a novel person pose-guided image generation method, which is called the semantic attention network. The network consists of several semantic attention blocks, where each block attends to preserve and update the pose code and the clothing textures. The introduction of the binary segmentation mask and the semantic parsing is important for seamlessly stitching foreground and background in the pose-guided image generation. Compared wit…
Person re-identification in large-scale multi-camera networks is a challenging task because of the spatio-temporal uncertainty and high complexity due to large numbers of cameras and people. To handle these difficulties, additional information such as camera network topology should be provided, which is also difficult to automatically estimate. In this paper, we propose a unified framework which jointly solves both person re-id and camera network topology inference problems. The proposed framework takes general multi-camera network environments into account. To effectively show the superiority…

Partial person re-identification (ReID) is a challenging task because only partial information of person images is available for matching target persons. Few studies, especially on deep learning, have focused on matching partial person images with holistic person images. This study presents a novel deep partial ReID framework based on pairwise spatial transformer networks (STNReID), which can be trained on existing holistic person datasets. STNReID includes a spatial transformer network (STN) module and a ReID module. The STN module samples an affined image (a semantically corresponding patch)…

Person re-identification (re-id) has made great progress in recent years, but occlusion is still a challenging problem which significantly degenerates the identification performance. In this paper, we design a teacher-student learning framework to learn an occlusion-robust model from the full-body person domain to the occluded person domain. Notably, the teacher network only uses large-scale full-body person data to simulate the learning process of occluded person re-id. Based on the teacher network, the student network then trains a better model by using inadequate real-world occluded person …

Holistic person re-identification (ReID) has received extensive study in the past few years and achieves impressive progress. However, persons are often occluded by obstacles or other persons in practical scenarios, which makes partial person re-identification non-trivial. In this paper, we propose a spatial-channel parallelism network (SCPNet) in which each channel in the ReID feature pays attention to a given spatial part of the body. The spatial-channel corresponding relationship supervises the network to learn discriminative feature for both holistic and partial person re-identification. T…

Person re-identification is a basic subject in the field of computer vision. The traditional methods have several limitations in solving the problems of person illumination like occlusion, pose variation and feature variation under complex background. Fortunately, deep learning paradigm opens new ways of the person re-identification research and becomes a hot spot in this field. Generative Adversarial Nets (GANs) in the past few years attracted lots of attention in solving these problems. In monocular video 3D multi-person pose estimation, inter-person occlusion and close interactions can cause human detection to be erroneous and human-joints grouping to be unreliable. Existing top-down methods rely on human detection and thus suffer from these problems. Existing bottom-up methods do not use human detection, but they process all persons at once at the same scale, causing them to be sensitive to multiple-persons scale variations. To address these challenges, we propose the integration of top-down and bottom-up approaches to exploit their strengths. Our top-down network estimates…

Person search aims at jointly solving Person Detection and Person Re-identification (re-ID). Existing works have designed end-to-end networks based on Faster R-CNN. However, due to the parallel structure of Faster R-CNN, the extracted features come from the low-quality proposals generated by the Region Proposal Network, rather than the detected high-quality bounding boxes. Person search is a fine-grained task and such inferior features will significantly reduce re-ID performance. To address this issue, we propose a Sequential End-to-end Network (SeqNet) to extract superior features. In SeqNet,…
Person re-identification aims to associate images of the same person over multiple non-overlapping camera views at different times. Depending on the human operator, manual re-identification in large camera networks is highly time consuming and erroneous. Automated person re-identification is required due to the extensive quantity of visual data produced by rapid inflation of large scale distributed multi-camera systems. The state-of-the-art works focus on learning and factorize person appearance features into latent discriminative factors at multiple semantic levels. We propose Deep Parallel F…
Deep neural networks have been successfully applied to solving the video-based person re-identification problem with impressive results reported. The existing networks for person re-id are designed to extract discriminative features that preserve the identity information. Usually, whole video frames are fed into the neural networks and all the regions in a frame are equally treated. This may be a suboptimal choice because many regions, e.g., background regions in the video, are not related to the person. Furthermore, the person of interest may be occluded by another person or something else. T…

Monocular 3D human pose estimation has made progress in recent years. Most of the methods focus on single persons, which estimate the poses in the person-centric coordinates, i.e., the coordinates based on the center of the target person. Hence, these methods are inapplicable for multi-person 3D pose estimation, where the absolute coordinates (e.g., the camera coordinates) are required. Moreover, multi-person pose estimation is more challenging than single pose estimation, due to inter-person occlusion and close human interactions. Existing top-down multi-person methods rely on human detection…

Recent literature addressed the monocular 3D pose estimation task very satisfactorily. In these studies, different persons are usually treated as independent pose instances to estimate. However, in many every-day situations, people are interacting, and the pose of an individual depends on the pose of his/her interactees. In this paper, we investigate how to exploit this dependency to enhance current - and possibly future - deep networks for 3D monocular pose estimation. Our pose interacting network, or PI-Net, inputs the initial pose estimates of a variable number of interactees into a recurre…
The person re-identification (Re-ID) task requires to robustly extract feature representations for person images. Recently, part-based representation models have been widely studied for extracting the more compact and robust feature representations for person images to improve person Re-ID results. However, existing part-based representation models mostly extract the features of different parts independently which ignore the relationship information between different parts. To overcome this limitation, in this paper we propose a novel deep learning framework, named Part-based Hierarchical Grap…
To synthesize high-quality person images with arbitrary poses is challenging. In this paper, we propose a novel Multi-scale Conditional Generative Adversarial Networks (MsCGAN), aiming to convert the input conditional person image to a synthetic image of any given target pose, whose appearance and the texture are consistent with the input image. MsCGAN is a multi-scale adversarial network consisting of two generators and two discriminators. In person search, we aim to localize a query person from one scene in other gallery scenes. This paper proposes a new Generative Partition Network (GPN) to address the challenging multi-person pose estimation problem. Different from existing models that are either completely top-down or bottom-up, the proposed GPN introduces a novel strategy--it generates partitions for multiple persons from their global joint candidates and infers instance-specific joint configurations simultaneously. The GPN is favorably featured by low complexity and high accuracy of joint detection and re-organization. In particular, GPN designs a generative model that performs one feed-forward pass to efficientl…
The task of multi-person human pose estimation in natural scenes is quite challenging. Existing methods include both top-down and bottom-up approaches. The main advantage of bottom-up methods is its excellent tradeoff between estimation accuracy and computational cost. We follow this path and aim to design smaller, faster, and more accurate neural networks for the regression of keypoints and limb association vectors. These two regression tasks are naturally dependent on each other. In this work, we propose a dual-path network specially designed for multi-person human pose estimation, and compa…

Both networks share their bottom feature extraction module and are optimized within a multi-task learning framework. Emotion and personality …
Person re-identification (reID) aims at retrieving an image of the person of interest from a set of images typically captured by multiple cameras. Recent reID methods have shown that exploiting local features describing body parts, together with a global feature of a person image itself, gives robust feature representations, even in the case of missing body parts. However, using the individual part-level features directly, without considering relations between body parts, confuses differentiating identities of different persons having similar attributes in corresponding parts. To address this …
Video-based person re-identification (reID) aims to retrieve person videos with the same identity as a query person across multiple cameras. Spatial and temporal distractors in person videos, such as background clutter and partial occlusions over frames, respectively, make this task much more challenging than image-based person reID. We observe that spatial distractors appear consistently in a particular location, and temporal distractors show several patterns, e.g., partial occlusions occur in the first few frames, where such patterns provide informative cues for predicting which frames to fo…

Person re-identification is to seek a correct match for a person of interest across views among a large number of imposters. It typically involves two procedures of non-linear feature extractions against dramatic appearance changes, and subsequent discriminative analysis in order to reduce intra- personal variations while enlarging inter-personal differences. In this paper, we introduce a hybrid architecture which combines Fisher vectors and deep neural networks to learn non-linear representations of person images to a space where data can be linearly separable. Person Re-Identification (ReID) is a challenging problem in many video analytics and surveillance applications, where a person's identity must be associated across a distributed non-overlapping network of cameras. Video-based person ReID has recently gained much interest because it allows capturing discriminant spatio-temporal information from video clips that is unavailable for image-based ReID. Despite recent advances, deep learning (DL) models for video ReID often fail to leverage this information to improve the robustness of feature representations. In this paper, the motion pattern of a p…
Person re-identification (re-ID) remains challenging in a real-world scenario, as it requires a trained network to generalise to totally unseen target data in the presence of variations across domains. Recently, generative adversarial models have been widely adopted to enhance the diversity of training data. These approaches, however, often fail to generalise to other domains, as existing generative person re-identification models have a disconnect between the generative component and the discriminative feature learning stage. To address the on-going challenges regarding model generalisation, …
