Efficient control over entanglement in spin chains is useful for quantum information processing applications. In this paper, we propose the use of a combination of two different configurations of strong static and oscillating fields to control and generate near-perfect entanglement between any two spins in a spin chain, even in the presence of noise. This is made possible by the fact that our control fields not only decouple the spin chain from its environment but also selectively modify the spin-spin interactions. By suitably tuning these spin-spin interactions via the control fields, we show that the quantum state of any two spins in the spin chain can be made to be a Bell state. We illustrate our results for various spin chains, such as the XY model, the XYZ model, and the Ising spin chain.
Evolution of homonuclear J-coupling during t1 period creates Zero Quantum artefacts which seriously degrade the performance of 2D NOESY. In our previous work [28], it is demonstrated that creation of such artefacts can be prevented by incorporation of a perfect echo based broadband homo-nuclear decoupling technique during t1 period that also allows chemical shift encoding. However, such experiments have limited F1 resolution as the perfect echo based decoupling remains efficient for interpulse delay 2τ (=t1) short compared to 1/J. A solution to this problem is provided in the present work wher…
Homonuclear 1H-1H J-modulation leads to J-multiplets in F1 dimension of 2D 1H-13C HMQC spectra. This hampers unambiguous signal assignment for overcrowded 13C spectra. Broadband homonuclear decoupling has been achieved in the indirect t1 evolution period by incorporating blocks of perfect echo. This method enhances resolution and sensitivity of 2D 1H-13C HMQC spectra. The results on Cyclosporine demonstrate that the method is very efficient for -13CH2 groups, though partial sensitivity and resolution enhancements have also been observed for -13CH and -13CH3 groups. Interpretation of the result…
We study the dephasing-assisted precision of parameter estimation (PPE) enhancement in atom interferometer under dynamical decoupling (DD) pulses. Through calculating spin squeezing (SS) and quantum Fisher information (QFI), we find that dephasing noise can improve PPE by inducing SS, and the DD pulses can maximize the improvement. It is indicated that in the presence of DD pulses, the dephasing-induced SS can reach the limit of \textquotedblleft one-axis twisting\textquotedblright\ model, $ξ^2\simeq N^{-2/3}$ with $ξ^2$ being the SS parameter and N the number of atoms. In particular, we find …
This work investigates the use of dynamical decoupling to shield quantum discord from errors introduced by the environment. Specifically, a two-qubits system interacting with independent baths of bosons is considered. The initial conditions of the system were chosen as pure and mixed states, while the dynamical decoupling has been achieved by means of continuous fields. The effects of the temperature on the shielding of quantum discord is also studied. It is shown that although the quantum discord for particular initial states may be perfectly preserved over some finite time window in the abse…
Dynamical decoupling (DD) is a powerful method for controlling arbitrary open quantum systems. In quantum spin control, DD generally involves a sequence of timed spin flips ($π$ rotations) arranged to average out or selectively enhance coupling to the environment. Experimentally, errors in the spin flips are inevitably introduced, motivating efforts to optimise error-robust DD. Here we invert this paradigm: by introducing particular control "errors" in standard DD, namely a small constant deviation from perfect $π$ rotations (pulse adjustments), we show we obtain protocols that retain the adva…
We propose a method for Hamiltonian engineering in quantum information processing architectures that requires no local control, but only relies on collective qubit rotations and field gradients. The technique achieves a spatial modulation of the coupling strengths via a dynamical construction of a weighting function combined with a Bragg grating. As an example, we demonstrate how to generate the ideal Hamiltonian for perfect quantum information transport between two separated nodes of a large spin network. We engineer a spin chain with optimal couplings from a large spin network, such as natur…
One-shot decoupling is a powerful primitive in quantum information theory and was hypothesized to play a role in the black hole information paradox. We study black hole dynamics modeled by a trilinear Hamiltonian whose semiclassical limit gives rise to Hawking radiation. An explicit numerical calculation of the discretized path integral of the S-matrix shows that decoupling is exact in the continuous limit, implying that quantum information is perfectly transferred from the black hole to radiation. A striking consequence of decoupling is the emergence of an output radiation entropy profile tha…
For spins chains to be useful for quantum information processing tasks, the interaction between the spin chain and its environment generally needs to be suppressed. In this paper, we propose the use of strong static and oscillating control fields in order to effectively remove the spin chain-environment interaction. We find that our control fields can also effectively transform the spin chain Hamiltonian. In particular, interaction terms which are absent in the original spin chain Hamiltonian appear in the time-averaged effective Hamiltonian once the control fields are applied, implying that s…
Feynman, in 1982, proposed the idea of using a quantum simulator to perform quantum simulations. A quantum simulator is basically a controllable quantum system that can mimic the dynamics of other quantum systems we wish to study. In this thesis we investigate some aspects of quantum simulation using both unitary and nonunitary controls. In the unitary part, we experimentally simulated the phenomenon of quantum many-body freezing, and also developed a general protocol to decompose an arbitrary unitary operator. In the nonunitary part, we studied phase decoherence by artificially inducing it. W…
A general coherent control scenario to suppress, or accelerate, tunneling of quantum states decaying into a continuum, is investigated. The method is based on deterministic, or stochastic, sequences of unitary pulses that affect the underlying interference phenomena responsible for quantum dynamics, without inducing decoherence, or collapsing the coherent evolution of the system. The influence of control sequences on the ensuing quantum dynamics is analyzed by using perturbation theory to first order in the control pulse fields and compared to dynamical decoupling (DD) protocols and sequences …
In this article, we study the problem of designing a Decoherence Control for quantum systems with the help of a scalable ancillary quantum control and techniques from geometric control theory, in order to successfully and completely decouple an open quantum system from its environment. We re-formulate the problem of decoherence control as a disturbance rejection scheme which also leads us to the idea of Internal Model Principle for quantum control systems which is first of its kind in the literature. It is shown that decoupling a quantum disturbance from an open quantum system, is possible onl…
We explicitate the relation between Hamiltonians for networks of interacting qubits in the XYZ model and graph Laplacians. We then study evolution in networks in which all sites can communicate with each other. These are modeled by the complete graph K_{n} and called all-to-all networks. It turns out that K_{n} does not exhibit perfect state transfer (PST). However, we prove that deleting an edge in K_{n} allows PST between the two non-adjacent sites, when n is a multiple of four. An application is routing a qubit over n different sites, by switching off the link between the sites that we wish…
Pointer states are long-lasting high-fidelity states in open quantum systems. We show how any pure state in a non-Markovian open quantum system can be made to behave as a pointer state by suitably engineering the coupling to the environment via open-loop periodic control. Engineered pointer states are constructed as approximate fixed points of the controlled open-system dynamics, in such a way that they are guaranteed to survive over a long time with a fidelity determined by the relative precision with which the dynamics is engineered. We provide quantitative minimum-fidelity bounds by identif…
Adiabatically varying the driving frequency of a periodically-driven many-body quantum system can induce controlled transitions between resonant eigenstates of the time-averaged Hamiltonian, corresponding to adiabatic transitions in the Floquet spectrum and presenting a general tool in quantum many-body control. Using the central spin model as an application, we show how such controlled driving processes can lead to a polarization-based decoupling of the central spin from its decoherence-inducing environment at resonance. While it is generally impossible to obtain the exact Floquet Hamiltonian…
The sensitivity of a practical quantum magnetometer is challenged by both inhomogeneous coupling between sensors and environment and errors in quantum control. Based on the physical criteria of modern quantum sensing, we present a robust and effective composite-pulse for high fidelity operation against inhomogeneous broadening of sensor and control errors via optimized modulation of control field. Such a technique is verified on nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center in diamond to keep almost perfect operation up to a detuning as larger as $110\%$. The sensitivity of the magnetometer with NV center ense…
In this Thesis, several results in quantum information theory are collected, most of which use entropy as the main mathematical tool. *While a direct generalization of the Shannon entropy to density matrices, the von Neumann entropy behaves differently. A long-standing open question is, whether there are quantum analogues of unconstrained non-Shannon type inequalities. Here, a new constrained non-von-Neumann type inequality is proven, a step towards a conjectured unconstrained inequality by Linden and Winter. *IID quantum state merging can be optimally achieved using the decoupling technique. …
A heavy hole confined to an InGaAs quantum dot promises the union of a stable spin and optical coherence to form a near perfect, high-bandwidth spin-photon interface. Despite theoretical predictions and encouraging preliminary measurements, the dynamic processes determining the coherence of the hole spin are yet to be understood. Here, we establish the regimes that allow for a highly coherent hole spin in these systems, recovering a crossover from hyperfine to electrical-noise dominated decoherence with a few-Tesla external magnetic field. Dynamical decoupling allows us to reach the longest gr…
The nuclear spins of ionized donors in silicon have become an interesting quantum resource due to their very long coherence times. Their perfect isolation, however, comes at a price, since the absence of the donor electron makes the nuclear spin difficult to control. We demonstrate that the quadrupolar interaction allows us to effectively tune the nuclear magnetic resonance of ionized arsenic donors in silicon via strain and determine the two nonzero elements of the S tensor linking strain and electric field gradients in this material to $S_{11}=1.5\times10^{22}$ V/m$^2$ and $S_{44}=6\times 10…
