Relation Extraction (RE) is a vital step to complete Knowledge Graph (KG) by extracting entity relations from texts. However, it usually suffers from the long-tail issue. The training data mainly concentrates on a few types of relations, leading to the lackof sufficient annotations for the remaining types of relations. In this paper, we propose a general approach to learn relation prototypesfrom unlabeled texts, to facilitate the long-tail relation extraction by transferring knowledge from the relation types with sufficient trainingdata. We learn relation prototypes as an implicit factor between entities, which reflects the meanings of relations as well as theirproximities for transfer learning. Specifically, we construct a co-occurrence graph from texts, and capture both first-order andsecond-order entity proximities for embedding learning. Based on this, we further optimize the distance from entity pairs tocorresponding prototypes, which can be easily adapted to almost arbitrary RE frameworks. Thus, the learning of infrequent or evenunseen relation types will benefit from semantically proximate relations through pairs of entities and large-scale textual information. We have conducted extensive experiments on two publicly available datasets: New York Times and Google Distant Supervision.Compared with eight state-of-the-art baselines, our proposed model achieves significant improvements (4.1% F1 on average). Furtherresults on long-tail relations demonstrate the effectiveness of the learned relation prototypes. We further conduct an ablation study toinvestigate the impacts of varying components, and apply it to four basic relation extraction models to verify the generalization ability. Finally, we analyze several example cases to give intuitive impressions as qualitative analysis. Our codes will be released later.

Contrastive learning pre-trains an image encoder using a large amount of unlabeled data such that the image encoder can be used as a general-purpose feature extractor for various downstream tasks. In this work, we propose PoisonedEncoder, a data poisoning attack to contrastive learning. In particular, an attacker injects carefully crafted poisoning inputs into the unlabeled pre-training data, such that the downstream classifiers built based on the poisoned encoder for multiple target downstream tasks simultaneously classify attacker-chosen, arbitrary clean inputs as attacker-chosen, arbitrary …

Learning from positive and unlabeled (PU) data is a setting where the learner only has access to positive and unlabeled samples while having no information on negative examples. Such PU setting is of great importance in various tasks such as medical diagnosis, social network analysis, financial markets analysis, and knowledge base completion, which also tend to be intrinsically imbalanced, i.e., where most examples are actually negatives. Most existing approaches for PU learning, however, only consider artificially balanced datasets and it is unclear how well they perform in the realistic scen…

In e-commerce portals, generating answers for product-related questions has become a crucial task. In this paper, we focus on the task of product-aware answer generation, which learns to generate an accurate and complete answer from large-scale unlabeled e-commerce reviews and product attributes. However, safe answer problems pose significant challenges to text generation tasks, and e-commerce question-answering task is no exception. To generate more meaningful answers, in this paper, we propose a novel generative neural model, called the Meaningful Product Answer Generator (MPAG), which allev…

Knowledge graph (KG) embedding aims at learning the latent representations for entities and relations of a KG in continuous vector spaces. An empirical observation is that the head (tail) entities connected by the same relation often share similar semantic attributes -- specifically, they often belong to the same category -- no matter how far away they are from each other in the KG; that is, they share global semantic similarities. However, many existing methods derive KG embeddings based on the local information, which fail to effectively capture such global semantic similarities among entiti…
