The infinite chain of transitions of one pair of mesons (channel I) into another pair of mesons (channel II) can produce bound states and resonances in both channels even if no interactions inside channels exist. These resonances which can occur also in meson-baryon channels are called channel-coupling (CC) resonances. A new mechanism of CC resonances is proposed where transitions occur due to a rearrangement of confining strings inside each channel -- the recoupling mechanism. The amplitude of this recoupling mechanism is expressed via overlap integrals of the wave functions of participating mesons (baryons). The explicit calculation with the known wave functions yields the peak at $E= 4.12$ GeV for the transitions $J/ψ+ ϕ\leftrightarrow D^*_s + \bar D^*_s $, which can be associated with $χ_{c1}(4140)$, and a narrow peak at $3.98$ GeV with the width $10$ MeV for the transitions $D^{-}_s + D^*_0 \leftrightarrow J/ψ+ K^{*-},$ which can be associated with the recently discovered $Z_{cs}(3985)$.
We predict several new exotic doubly-heavy hadronic resonances, inferring from the observed exotic bottomonium-like and charmonium-like narrow states $X(3872)$, $Z_b(10610)$, $Z_b(10650)$, $Z_c(3900)$, and $Z_c(4020/4025)$. We interpret the binding mechanism as mostly molecular-like isospin-exchange attraction between two heavy-light mesons in a relative S-wave state. We then generalize it to other systems containing two heavy hadrons which can couple through isospin exchange. The new predicted states include resonances in meson-meson, meson-baryon, baryon-baryon, and baryon-antibaryon channel…
The resonances, containing $c\bar c$ plus $s\bar s$ (or light $q\bar q$) quarks in the mass region $(3900-4700)$ MeV, are analyzed in the relativistic strong coupling theory, with and without channel coupling phenomena. The conventional charmonium spectrum is presented, being calculated with the relativistic string Hamiltonian, which does not contain fitting parameters, while for high excitations the universal flattened confining potential is used. It is shown that $X(4274),X(4500),X(4700)$ can be identified as $3\,^3P_1, 4\,^3P_0, 5\,^3P_0$ states. The exotic states are considered using the c…
We point out that the new exotic resonances recently reported by LHCb in the $J/ψp$ channel are excellent candidates for photoproduction off a proton target. This test is crucial to confirming the resonant nature of such states, as opposed to their being kinematical effects. We specialize to an interpretation of the heavier narrow state as a molecule composed of $Σ_c$ and $\bar D^*$, and estimate its production cross section using vector dominance. The relevant photon energies and fluxes are well within the capabilities of the GlueX and CLAS12 detectors at Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator…
We identify the quantum numbers of baryon exotics in the Quark Model, the Skyrme Model and QCD, and show that they agree for arbitrary colors and flavors. We define exoticness, E, which can be used to classify the states. The exotic baryons include the recently discovered qqqq qbar pentaquarks (E=1), as well as exotic baryons with additional q qbar pairs (E >=1). The mass formula for non-exotic and exotic baryons is given as an expansion in 1/N, and allows one to relate the moment of inertia of the Skyrme soliton to the mass of a constituent quark.
The heavy quarks $c$ and $b$ stabilize exotic meson $(qq\bar q \bar q)$ and baryon $(qqqq \bar q)$ states. We discuss work with M. Karliner on molecules containing $c \bar c$ and $b \bar b$; the first doubly charmed baryon; isospin splittings; $Ξ_{cc}^+ = ccd$ and $Ω_{cc} = ccs$ masses; lifetimes; tetraquarks stable under strong and electromagnetic decay; excited $Ω_{c}$ states; and P-wave excitation energies.
The electromagnetic form factors of the exotic baryons are calculated in the framework of the relativistic quark model at small and intermediate momentum transfer. The charge radii of the E+++ baryons are determined.
In the present paper, the rotational states of the baryons, dibaryons and baryon octets are shown. A comparison of the S = +1 theta baryons is made to the spectrum of the narrow width dibaryons. From this comparison, the rotational spectra of the exotic theta baryons are proposed. We analyze the importance of the 70 MeV quantum proposed by Mac Gregor and its relationship in the location of exotic baryons belonging to the antidecuplet. Antidecuplet mass separations are suggested on the order of the pion mass or 120 - 150 MeV from symmetry to the spectrums of the baryon decuplet and charmed bary…
The status of exotic baryons is analyzed in the limit of a large number of colors Nc. Several toy models reproducing the main features of the large-Nc QCD are studied in order to clarify the recent controversy concerning the consistency of various approaches to the 1/Nc-expansion for exotic baryons. The analysis reveals several difficulties of the rigid-rotator approximation including the problems of this approximation in the description of exotic baryons.
We predict an exotic Z^+ baryon (having spin 1/2, isospin 0 and strangeness +1) with a relatively low mass of about 1530 MeV and total width of less than 15 MeV. It seems that this region of masses has avoided thorough searches in the past.
The relativistic five-quark equations are found in the framework of the dispersion relation technique. The five-quark amplitudes for the low-lying exotic baryons including the up and down quarks are calculated. The poles of the five-quark amplitudes determine the masses and the widths of nonstrange exotic baryons(isospin I=5/2). The mass spectrum of the E+++ exotic baryons with JP=1/2+,3/2+, 5/2+ is calculated.
The novel observation of an exotic strangeness S=+1 baryon state at 1.54 GeV will trigger an intensified search for this and other baryons with exotic quantum numbers. This state was predicted long ago in topological soliton models. We use this approach together with the new datum in order to investigate its implications for the baryon spectrum. In particular we estimate the positions of other pentaquark and septuquark states with exotic and with non-exotic quantum numbers.
We present an extensive study of the static properties of light exotic and non-exotic baryons, based on the formulation of chiral quark-soliton model in terms of light-cone wave functions. We discuss in particular vector, axial and tensor charges as well as an estimation of the electromagnetic moments for the baryon octet, decuplet and hypothetical antidecuplet. Contributions from Fock components up to the seven-quark sector are considered and appear to be sizeable, reflecting the importance of the pion cloud. All these observables are further decomposed into flavor, valence quark, sea quark a…
We calculate total cross section for production of the $Ξ_{3/2}(1862)$ exotic baryon in $\bar{K}N \to KΞ_{3/2}$ reaction assuming the following spin-parity values of the $Ξ_{3/2}$ baryon 1/2+, 1/2-, 3/2+, 3/2-. We demonstrate that the reaction total cross section strongly depends on the spin of the $Ξ_{3/2}$ baryon.
From the interpretation of the $Θ^+$ baryon resonance as an excitation of the ``skyrmion liquid'' with SU(3) flavor symmetry $\bar{10}$ we deduce a new series of baryons, $Θ_1^{++}$, $Θ_1^{+}$ and $Θ_1^0$, situated at the top of the 27-plet of SU(3) flavor, with hypercharge Y=2, isospin T=1 and spin $J=\frac32$. The mass of $Θ_1$ is estimated 55 MeV/c^2 higher then the mass of $Θ^+$ and its width at 80 MeV. We also discuss the other baryons from the 27-plet.
We investigate the pentaquark($P$) exotic baryons as soliton-antiflavored heavy mesons bound states in the limit of infinitely heavy meson mass. Our approach respects the chiral symmetry as well as the heavy quark symmetry. The results reveal a possibility for the loosely bound non-strange $P$-baryon(s).
Evidences and hints, both from the theoretical and experimental side, of exotic baryon resonances with B=S, have been with us for the last thirty years. The poor status of the general acceptance of these Z* resonances is partly due to the prejudice against penta-quark baryons and partly due to the opinion that a proof of the existence of exotic states must be rigorous. This can refer to the quality and amount of data gathered, and also to the analytical methods applied in the study of these resonances. It seems then mandatory that all possibilities and aspects be exploited. We do that by analy…
In an exclusive measurement of the reaction $γd \to K^+ K^- p n$, a narrow peak that can be attributed to an exotic baryon with strangeness $S=+1$ is seen in the $K^+n$ invariant mass spectrum. The peak is at $1.542\pm 0.005$ GeV/c$^2$ with a measured width of 0.021 GeV/c$^2$ FWHM, which is largely determined by experimental mass resolution. The statistical significance of the peak is $5.2 \pm 0.6 σ$. The mass and width of the observed peak are consistent with recent reports of a narrow $S=+1$ baryon by other experimental groups.
We employ the chiral quark-soliton model to describe excited baryons with one heavy quark. Identifying known charmed baryons with multiplets allowed by the model, we argue that apart from regular excitations of the ground state multiplets, some of recently reported by the LHCb collaboration narrow $Ω^{0}_{c}$ states, may correspond to the exotic pentaquarks. This interpretation can be easily verified experimentally, since exotic $Ω^{0}_{c}$ states -- contrary to the regular excitations -- form isospin triplets, rather than singlets.
We calculate the N_c dependence of the decay widths of exotic eikosiheptaplet within the framework of Chral Quark Soliton Model. We also discuss generalizations of regular baryon representations for arbitrary N_c.
Since all couplings of the exotic $Θ^+$ baryon to normal hadrons seem to be small it is hard to reveal it in standard resonance searching. We suggest to look for the $Θ^+$ production in interference with a known resonance yielding the same final state but having a high production rate. The interference process is linear in the $Θ^+$ couplings whereas the non-interference process is quadratic. That gives an obvious gain if the couplings are small. Moreover, employing the peculiar oscillating nature of the interference processes one can reduce considerably the parasitic background and determine …
Recently observed exotic baryon resonance with positive strangeness is discussed. The chiral soliton model, which allowed to predict the mass and width of this state, predicts also a number of other exotic states, strange and non-strange, some of them are, probably, observed in experiments. The existence of exotic multibaryons is expected as well, with positive strangeness or beauty, and negative charm. The possibility of binding of anticharm and antibeauty is pointed out.
I briefly review the history of exotic meson (4-quark) and baryon (5-quark) states, which is rooted in the formalism of Regge pole and duality. There are robust model-independent predictions for the exchange of 4-quark (Baryonium) Regge trajectories in several processes, which are strongly supported by experiment. On the other hand the predictions for the spectroscopy of 4-quark resonances are based on specific QCD inspired models, with some experimental support. The corresponding predictions for the recently discovered exotic baryon (Pentaquark) state are briefly discussed.
In the large $N_c$ limit both heavy and light baryons are described by the universal mean field, which allows us to relate the properties of heavy baryons to light ones. With the only input from the decays of light octet baryons (due to the universality of the chiral mean field), excellent description of strong decays of both charm and bottom sextets is obtained. The parameter-free prediction for the widths of exotic anti-decapentaplet ($\overline{\boldsymbol{15}}$) baryons is also made. The exotic heavy baryons should be anomalously narrow despite of large phase space available. In particular…
We emphasize the importance of identifying non-exotic SU(3) partners of the Theta^+ pentaquark, and indicate possible ways how to do it. We also use the soliton picture of baryons to relate Reggeon couplings of various baryons. These relations are used to estimate the Theta^+ production cross section in high energy processes. We show that the corresponding cross sections are significantly suppressed relative to the production cross sections of usual baryons. Finally, we present spin non-flip form factors of the anti-decuplet baryons in the framework of the chiral quark soliton model.
We generalize the usual octet, decuplet and exotic antidecuplet and higher baryon multiplets to any number of colours Nc. We show that the multiplets fall into a sequence of bands with O(1/Nc) splittings inside the band and O(1)splittings between the bands characterized by "exoticness", that is the number of extra quark-antiquark pairs needed to compose the multiplet. Each time one adds a pair the baryon mass is increased by the same constant which can be interpreted as a mass of a quark-antiquark pair. At the same time, we prove that masses of exotic rotational multiplets are reliably determi…
If the number of colors Nc is taken large, baryons and their excitations can be considered in a mean-field approach. We argue that the mean field in baryons breaks spontaneously the spherical and SU(3) flavor symmetries, but retains the SU(2) symmetry of simultaneous rotations in space and isospace. The one-quark and quark-hole excitations in the mean field, together with the SU(3) rotational bands about them determine the spectrum of baryon resonances, which turns out to be in satisfactory accordance with reality when one puts Nc=3. A by-product of this scheme is a confirmation of the light p…
In this talk, we present our recent investigation on the magnetic moments of the exotic pentaquark states, based on the chiral quark-soliton model, all relevant intrinsic parameters being fixed by using empirical data.
The pion nucleon sigma-term is extracted on the basis of the soliton picture of the nucleon from the mass spectrum of usual and the recently observed exotic baryons, assuming that they have positive parity. The value found is consistent with that inferred by means of conventional methods from pion nucleon scattering data. The study can also be considered as a phenomenological consistency check of the soliton picture of baryons.
We briefly review the formulation of chiral quark soliton model and explain the difference and similarities with the Skyrme model. Next, we apply the model to calculate non-exotic and exotic mass spectra. We concentrate on large $N_{c}$ counting both for mass splittings and decay widths. It is shown that pure large $N_{c}$ arguments do not explain the small width of exotic pentaquark states.
The 1/N expansion for exotic baryons is developed, and applied to the masses, meson couplings and decay widths. Masses and widths of the 27 and 35 pentaquark states in the same tower as the Theta+ are related by spin-flavor symmetry. The 27 and 35 states can decay within the pentaquark tower, as well as to normal baryons, and so have larger decay widths than the lightest pentaquark Theta. The 1/N expansion also is applied to baryon exotics containing a single heavy antiquark. The decay widths of heavy pentaquarks via pion emission, and to normal baryons plus heavy D^(*),B^(*) mesons are studie…
The octet, decuplet and antidecuplet baryon mass spectrum as a function of the Skyrme charge e and the SU(3)_f symmetry breaking parameters is given in tabular form. We also estimate the decuplet-octet and the antidecuplet-octet mass difference. Comparison with existing literature is given.
The K+ nucleon elastic scattering process has been reexamined in light of recent measurements which have found a narrow exotic S=+1 resonance in their KN invariant mass distributions. We have analyzed the existing database in order to consider the effect of a narrow state on fits to K+ nucleon observables.
The significantly screened heavy-quark potential in hot medium provides the possibility to study exotic quantum states of three-heavy-quark systems. By solving the Schrödinger equation for a three-charm-quark system at finite temperature, we found that, there exist Borromean states which might be realized in high energy nuclear collisions, and the binding energies of the system satisfy precisely the scaling law for Efimov states in the resonance limit.
In this talk I look into three different topics, addressing first a method to determine the quantum numbers of the $Θ^+$, then exploiting the possibility that the $Θ^+$ is a bound state of $K πN$ and in the third place I present results on a new resonant exotic baryonic state which appears as dynamically generated by the Weinberg Tomozawa $ΔK$ interaction.
In 1997 Diakonov, Petrov, and Polyakov, calculated the width of the exotic baryon that they called $Θ^{+}$. The prediction, $Γ(Θ^{+})\lesssim$ 15 MeV, has received considerable attention, especially in light of the narrowness of the experimentally reported $Θ^{+}$ resonance. However, there is an arithmetic error in their work: when corrected, the width estimate quoted in that paper should have been $\lesssim$~30 MeV.
Following a model based on the $\rm{SU}(8)$ symmetry that treats heavy pseudo-scalars and heavy vector mesons on an equal footing, as required by heavy quark symmetry, we study the interaction of baryons and mesons in coupled channels within an unitary approach that generates dynamically poles in the scattering $T$-matrix. We concentrate in the exotic channels with negative charm quantum number for which there is the experimental claim of one state.
In the large $N_c$ limit, one can describe normal heavy baryons $Qqq$ and heavy pentaquarks $\bar Qqqqq$ as bound states of heavy mesons to chiral (anti)solitons. In this picture, the strong and electromagnetic decay parameters of these hadrons can be calculated from those of the constituent heavy mesons and light baryons, while the weak decay form factors can be evaluated analytically.
It is shown, that the small decay width of $Θ^+ = uudd\bar{s}$ baryon is suppressed by chirality violation. It is shown that $Θ^+$ decay width $Γ$ is proportional to $α^2_s < 0 | \bar{q} q | 0 >^2$, for any pentaquark current without derivatives.
We study heavy baryons with an exotic flavor quantum number formed by a heavy meson and a nucleon (Dbar-N and B-N) through a long range one pion exchange interaction. The bound state found previously in the (I,JP) =(0,1/2-) channel survives when short range interaction is included. In addition, we find a resonant state with (I,JP)=(0,3/2-) as a Feshbach resonance predominated by a heavy vector meson and a nucleon (Dbar*-N and B*-N). We find that these exotic states exist for the charm and heavier flavor region.
We discuss several highly accurate theoretical predictions for masses of baryons containing the b quark which have been recently confirmed by experimental data. Several predictions are given for additional properties of heavy baryons. We also discuss the two charged exotic resonances Z_b with quantum numbers of a (b bbar u ddbar) tetraquark, very recently reported by Belle in the channel [Upsilon(nS) π^+, n=1,2,3]. Among possible implications are deeply bound I=0 counterparts of the Z_b-s and existence of a Sigma_b^+ Sigma_b^- dibaryon, a "beauteron".
A systematic study of multiquark exotics with one or $N_c-1$ heavy quarks in the large $N_c$ limit is presented. By binding a chiral soliton to a heavy meson, either a normal $N_c$-quark baryon or an exotic $(N_c+2)$-quark baryon is obtained. By replacing the heavy quark with $N_c-1$ heavy antiquarks, exotic $(2N_c-2)$-quark and $2N_c$-quark mesons are obtained. When $N_c = 3$, they are just the normal triquark baryon $Qqq$, the exotic pentaquark baryon $Q\bar q\bar q\bar q\bar q$, tetraquark di-meson $\bar Q \bar Q qq$ and the hexaquark di-baryon $\bar Q \bar Q \bar q \bar q\ bar q \bar q$ re…
Within the chiral soliton model the SU(3) breaking collective hamiltonian introduces representation mixing in the baryonic wave functions. We calculate ${\cal{O}}(m_s)$ effects of this mixing on the decay widths of decuplet and antidecuplet baryons. We find importance of the 27-plet admixture in the $Θ^+$ and $Ξ_{\bar{10}}$ decays. The role of the $1/N_c$ nonleading terms in ${\cal{O}}(m_s)$ transition matrix elements is discussed.
Evidence for the existence of exotic, pentaquark baryons was first found in the invariant mass spectrum of a baryon-meson pair, with the baryon in the octet of flavor SU(3). Exotic pentaquarks may also decay into members of the spin-3/2 baryon decuplet. We calculate relations between decay rates of the exotic pentaquark into a baryon decuplet and an octet of pseudoscalar mesons based on SU(3) flavor symmetry, including the leading flavor symmetry breaking term. We consider all possible representations for an exotic pentaquark, namely, that it belongs to either a \bar{10}, 27, or 35 representat…
We propose an extension to the standard model where three exotic fermion 5-plets and one scalar 6-plet are added to the particle content. By demanding that all interactions are renormalizable and standard model gauge invariant, we show that the lightest exotic particle in this model can be a dark matter candidate as long as the new 6-plet scalar does not develop a nonzero vacuum expectation value. Furthermore, light neutrino masses are generated radiatively at one-loop while the baryon asymmetry is produced by the CP-violating decays of the second lightest exotic particle. We have demonstrated…
The properties of the Theta^{+} and Xi^{--}_{3/2} exotic baryons have been investigated in the framework of diquark- diquark-antiquark system. A model for diquark suggested in an analogy with the quasi-particle in a crystal lattice has been used. The mass of the exotics have been computed. The Decay width of the Theta^{+} has been estimated to be ~ 11 MeV using effective diquark theory. The radius of the Xi^{--}_{3/2} has been extracted as 0.94fm using the experimental value of the frac{Γ_{Θ^{+}}}{Γ_{Ξ^{--}_{3/2}}}. The results obtained are found to be in good agreement with the present experi…
The mass formulae for the supernarrow dibaryons and the exotic baryons with small masses are consructed. With this aim their self energies are calculated in one loop approximation using the dispersion relations with two subtractions. The values of the masses obtained in this approach are in a good agreement with the experimental data. The mass formula for the baryons is also used to calculate the mass of the $Δ(1232)$ resonance.
Two-dimensional QCD has often been used as a laboratory for studying the full four-dimensional theory, providing, for example, an explicit realization of baryons as solitons. We review aspects of conventional baryons in two-dimensional QCD, including the classical and quantum contributions to their masses. We then discuss the spectrum of exotic baryons in two-dimensional QCD, commenting on the solitonic radius inferred from the excitation spectrum as well as the two-dimensional version of the Goldberger-Treiman relation relating meson couplings to current matrix elements. Two-dimensional QCD p…
We cautiously review the treatment of pentaquark exotic baryons in chiral soliton models. We consider two examples and argue that any consistent and self-contained description must go beyond the mean field approximation that only considers the classical soliton and the canonical quantization of its (would-be) zero modes via collective coordinates.
In the $B^+\to D^+ D^-K^+$ decay, LHCb has reported the observation of the open-charm exotic states $X_{0,1}^0\equiv X_{0,1}(2900)^0$ with four different quark flavors~$(ud\bar s \bar c)$, where the subscripts (0,1) denote the spins. To confirm the discovery, we propose $Λ_b\to Σ_c^{0(++)} X_{0,1}^{\prime\,0(--)}$ in the final state interaction, where $X_{0,1}^{\prime\,0(--)}$ with $s u\bar d \bar c$ ($ds\bar u \bar c$) are the new $X_{0,1}$-like exotic states. More specifically, $Λ_c^+D_s^-$ in $Λ_b\to Λ_c^+D_s^-$ are transformed as $Σ_c^{0(++)} X_{0,1}^{\prime\,0(--)}$, by exchanging $π^{+(-…
Motivated by the recent discovery of the exotic S=+1 narrow baryon resonance Theta^+ at 1540 MeV, with quark content {uudd sbar}, we conjecture the existence of its anti-charmed analogue Theta_c, with quark content {uudd cbar}, and compute its likely properties. We rely on the recently constructed model of a novel kind of a pentaquark with an unusual color structure which provides a good approximation to the Theta^+ mass. We expect that Theta_c is an isosinglet with J^P=1/2^+ and estimate its mass at 2985 \pm 50 MeV. We also discuss another possible exotic baryon resonance containing heavy qua…
Exotic antidecuplet baryons are predicted to be not only surprisingly light but also very narrow. First we explain how small decay width arises in the quark soliton model. Next, we study possible mixing of exotic antidecuplet with Roper octet and discuss its phenomenological consequences.
We present in this talk recent results of the magnetic moments of the baryon antidecuplet within the framework of the chiral quark-soliton model in the chiral limit. The dynamic parameters of the model are fixed by using the experimental data for those of the baryon octet. Sum rules for the magnetic moments are derived. We found that the magnetic moments of the baryon antidecuplet have opposite signs to their charges. The magnetic moments of the neutral baryon antidecuplet turn out to be compatible with zero.
Given the existing empirical information about the exotic Theta+ baryon, we analyze possible properties of its SU(3)F-partners, paying special attention to the nonstrange member of the antidecuplet N*. The modified piN partial-wave analysis presents two candidate masses, 1680 MeV and 1730 MeV. In both cases, the N* should be rather narrow and highly inelastic. Our results suggest several directions for experimental studies that may clarify properties of the antidecuplet baryons, and structure of their mixing with other baryons. Recent experimental evidence from the GRAAL and STAR Collaboration…
From the interpretation of the $Θ^+(1540)$ and $Ξ_{3/2}(1862)$ baryons as an excitation of the ``skyrmion liquid'' with SU(3) flavour symmetry $\bar{10}$ we deduce a new series of baryons, $Θ_1^{++}$, $Θ_1^{+}$ and $Θ_1^0$, situated at the top of the 27-plet of SU(3) flavour, with hypercharge Y=2, isospin I=1 and spin $J=\frac32$. The $Θ_1$ mass and width are estimated from the chiral quark soliton model. We demonstrate that the predicted mass, $m_{Θ_1}=1599 \mathrm{MeV/c^2}$, and broad width are in qualitative conflict with experiment which shows no structure in the total $K^+p$ cross section…
We re-analyze the predictions of chiral-soliton models for the masses and decay widths of baryons in the exotic antidecuplet of flavour SU(3). The calculated ranges of the chiral-soliton moment of inertia and the π-nucleon scattering Σterm are used together with the observed baryon octet and decuplet mass splittings to estimate 1430 MeV < m_{Θ^+} < 1660 MeV} and 1790 MeV < m_{Ξ^{--}} < 1970 MeV. These are consistent with the masses reported recently, but more precise predictions rely on ambiguous identifications of non-exotic baryon resonances. The overall decay rates of antidecuplet states ar…
We outline how one can understand the Skyrme model from the modern perspective. We review the quantization of the SU(3) rotations of the Skyrmion, leading to the exotic baryons that cannot be made of three quarks. It is shown that in the limit of large number of colours the lowest-mass exotic baryons can be studied from the kaon-Skyrmion scattering amplitudes, an approach known after Callan and Klebanov. We follow this approach and find, both analytically and numerically, a strong Theta+ resonance in the scattering amplitude that is traced to the rotational mode. The Skyrme model does predict …
For many decades after the invention of the quark model in 1964 there was no evidence that hadrons are formed from anything other than the simplest pairings of quarks and antiquarks, mesons being formed of a quark-antiquark pair and baryons from three quarks. In the last decade, however, in an explosion of data from both $e^+e^-$ and hadron colliders, there are many recently observed states that do not fit into this picture. These new particles are called generically "exotics". They can be either mesons or baryons. Remarkably, they all decay into at least one meson formed of either a $c\overli…
